Why can some sites sell Digital cameras so cheap?

I am looking for a canon Digital camera, when I google it I can a huge variety of sites selling the camera for as much as a 1000 dollar difference? Are the camera's all the same quality?

A lot of those too-cheap-to-be-true places, like broadwayphoto, are scam artists. Here are two sites to do quick background checks on stores with unbelievably low prices:

So I'm looking for a new digital camera. I'm not sure which one to get. I DO know that I want a Canon digital camera, with no/minimal shutter delay and at least 10 Mega pixels or higher. Can anyone point me in the right camera direction? And I don't want a too terribly pricey one, but I know they aren't going to be cheap.
