I'm taking my first photography course in a few weeks and I was advised to buy a canon camera. What is the BEST one for a beginner like me?

Answer
It is not usually about 'which' digital camera physique you own as it really is so much as which lens you've afforded oneself. My guidance is to conserve up all of the extra funds you'll be able to to obtain the much better lenses prior to acquiring the more costly digital camera bodies like a Canon 5dii or even the Canon 7d, unless of course you are really seeking to do video clip appropriate off the bat at the same time. If you are really targeted on working on photography, skip the video clip feature and go with a DSLR that doesn't have it. The Canon 5d's are that ideal physique, but if you need to have something more reasonably priced, there's often the Canon 40d and 50d. Very good lucktravelindependent

How can I tell the difference between a manual and auto focus lens when it comes to pro macro lenses?

I don't know a thing about cameras, but I recovered 7 Canon cameras with lenses from an estate buyout, and I'd like to sell them on Ebay. So far I learned that older Canon bases like the T50 are practically useless, it's the lenses people buy. I can usually enter the data I see stamped on the lens such as Vivitar Series1 28-90 mm 1:2.8.-3.5 and I'll find my lens. But then there are auto focus and manual focus lenses. How do I tell which one I have? Most all of them say "macro focusing." Guaranteed best answer to best answer!
EDIT: Sam, I've been selling things on Ebay for years. Just because I don't know a lot about cameras doesn't mean I shouldn't be selling them... especially when I have $5000 worth of lenses here. So I'm beginning the learning process. Next I will try to find a camera dealer. I've sold everything from water skiis to model train sets to ham radios to expensive china...without initially knowing diddly about any of them.
Jesus, you're a tool.

Answer
Macro focusing are not true macro lens. It may be able to focus closely, but not * that * close.

The Vivitar Series 1 90-180 mm http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=vivitar+90-180 is a true macro lens however. It focuses to 1:2

The curent Canon 100 mm f 2.8 Macro, 50 mm f 2.5 and a very expensive 180 mm are macro lenes (I also believe the EF-S 60 mm is too.)

100 mm http://www.flickr.com/photos/little_pooky/2333377673/in/photostream

50 mm http://www.flickr.com/photos/little_pooky/2301772510/in/photostream flat object (the wall) stays flat.
