what is the best digital camera on the market under $400?

I am out to buy a digital camera. I am no professional photographer but will want something that also come in useful in my work as an architect.

Answer
As an architect, you'll need a camera with as wide a lens as possible because you'll need to frame entire buildings into the picture or you'll have to take pictures of interior spaces with maximum coverage.

Your best bet is the Canon PowerShot S70, which has a 28mm - 100mm (35mm equiv.) zoom range. 28mm is as wide as you can get in any non-SLR cameras. It is under $400 at online stores. It is compact and has 7.1 MP resolution, more than good enough to blow up the image for presentations.

I also suggest you to go to

What is the best digital photography camera under $300-$400?

What is the best digital camera i can get for under $400? i need something that can take good quality pictures because i am going to be using for photography. i want something that has more than 8 megapixels and can focus well. i don't want to spend more than $400 right now, but if you have any recommendations that are a little more than that let me know. i am just looking for a good camera.

thanks!

Answer
Canon S5IS is 8mp, has IS and a huge zoom range (36-432mm on a 35mm camera).

Downside is the relatively large size, its not a pocket camera.

Street price is a little over $300 these days.

The Canon G9 is 12mp but breaks your budget at mid-$400s.

Any SLR above 6mp will break your budget if you want to add anything beyond the kit lens.
