Just look at the reviews from customer. Sony makes great looking cameras. Canon makes great cameras that takes great pictures and are the most reliable.
My old Fuji camera looked great but it broke just before the warranty and after it's repair it shots off after 5 seconds just after my warranty.
Trust me, you don't want to get it repair. It usually will break again.
I have own many Canon cameras and they all last more than 3 years. I usually give it to my sister or cousin. Nowadays, you can sell it online and get good money for it.
Sony use memory stick which are more expensive and some laptops don't take memory stick so it's not as compatible.
I wanted to buy American, but Kodak makes crappy cameras from customer reviews.

Both of these are excellent cameras.
The S3IS has been out over a year and has received many positive professional reviews.
The H7 is a brand new model, so I have not seen a pro review yet. However, based on the reviews of last year's model H5, the H7 should also be excellent.
The H7 has several updated features that should give it an advantage over the S3IS. It has:
. 8 MP vs 6 MP
. A 15x zoom vs 12x zoom, which starts at a wider wide-angle
. A stronger Sports mode
. A bigger LCD screen
You should hold each camera in your hands and try taking some test pics. Each camera has a slightly different feel and controls.
I have a Sony H1 and my daughter has a Canon S2IS. Both of these earlier models have given excellent results. I prefer the Sony controls and bigger LCD, but that is just presonal preference.
