Is it true that the Canon T4i camera has been discontinued due to a factory recall?

iC1

I was told this by several different sales reps at Best Buy on different occasions.
One even showed me some article about it. Something to do with an allergy that some people may have to the material used in the grip on the side of the body.

If this unit really was recalled and discontinued, why does it seem to be onsale still?
Example: http://dzurl.info/Qf8QpC

Does anyone know anything about this?

Answer
No, it's not true. Only a certain number of units are affected. So, don't worry. Here is the problem...

"The front rubber grips of some EOS REBEL T4i units produced in certain lots may turn white after a short period of time. We have determined after inquiry with the rubber manufacturer and analysis, that the white substance is zinc bis (N,Nâ-dimethyldithiocarbamate). Zinc bis is not used in the production of this product.
However, the quantity of rubber accelerator used in the affected production lots was slightly higher than usual. As a result the rubber grips may turn white due to a chemical reaction with the rubber accelerator and other substances. High temperature and high humidity may contribute to this condition. Zinc bis (N,Nâ-dimethyldithiocarbamate), which becomes deposited on the rubber surface, is created as a result of this chemical reaction."

From Canon's website...
"Product Recalled for Repair
Some EOS Rebel T4i digital SLR cameras sold from June 11 through August 1, 2012 may be under recall for repair.

You can use the serial number to check whether your camera is affected by this phenomenon. If the sixth digit of the serial number is "1" please follow the procedure below. If the sixth digit of the serial number is "2" or higher, your camera is not under recall for repair."

So, if intending to purchase the T4i...it would be wise to check the serial number before you buy it.

is the ROYAL II a good camera for begginers?

Nicolas

i know its a fake, but i started a photography class that you HAVE to have a 35mm camera.
spent 20$ on it from a local store.
its "focus free" i dont know what that means though.
and motorized rewind and motorized spool, which means you dont have to pull a lever everytime you want to take a new picture it does that by itself.
it has a good viewfinder and also has a top view which sort of looks like a screen that is a viewfinder.
heres a picture i found on google because i cont find my digital camera: http://www.julian.cl/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/100_3394.jpg

Answer
It is NOT a good camera for "beginners" since it has NO controls a beginner can use to learn how to balance shutter speed and lens aperture to get good exposures, nor does it have a lens you can focus

In order to complete the classes in photography, you must be able to change the shutter speed and lens aperture. Such a camera will cost you around $100 with a lens. You can find them on craigslist in a city near you, on the schools bulletin board in the art department or in some camera shops that sell used cameras. Look for a Nikon or Canon EOS camera. The old Canon SLR's that use FD and FL lenses are a dead-end system

NOTE: "focus free" does NOT mean auto-focus. It means that the lens is permanently set to be in focus at 2m or 6 feet. This Royal II is NOT a Canon camera and is just one of the ripoff toy cameras that are being sold to intelligent but uninformed people thinking that they are getting a "great deal" when in reality they just wasted $20 ... or more
