Digital slr camera recommendation for beginners?

Dav

I prefer from nikon or canon. I was thinking d3100? 5100? d90? t4i?

I am trying to make this a hobby of mine.
I am a beginner but would like a camera that can expand beyond the basics. I want one with high performance and lasting durability. I don't know if years matter but 2011-2012 would be my preferable choice?

If you are very knowledgeable in this field, can you list some DETAIL recommendations?
What is aperture? What lenses is the best?

Best,

Answer
A Digital slr is known as a DSLR in the photography world. The nikon d5100 a excelent and decently priced camera for beginners. Anything more and you will be completely lost. Aperture is the balance of light in the intake when the shutters close. So basically its the ammount of light it take in. If you mess up the aperture, the entire picture will not come out. So, the shutter closes at a really fast speed, such as for sports, it has less time to take in light so you are going to need to ballance the aperture with that, therefor needing a greater aperture. For something such as fireworks, you need a very slow shutter speed and a VERY low aperture. If you are new to it, i would strongly suggest just your run of the mill digital camera to start. It takes a lot of time to get familiarized with DSLRs and SLRs.

May 2012 quality camera?

Daniel

I don't know much about camera's so bear with me. My spouse and I are looking for nice camera. first of all for her photography class this fall and I also want to use the camera for my aquarium hobby as well as vacations ETC. Her school recommends a "digital single lens reflex" camera. I have no idea what that means, but we have a budget of around 400 dollars. What camera should we pick for crystal clear shots? I need help! Thanks!
May increase budget to 450 dollars or so, but would really like to stay around 400.

Answer
Hi Daniel. Well first things first. You don't have enough money. dslr cameras, as they are referred to, start at about $500 and go up. The best consumer level dslr cameras can be about $1,000. But $800 is about tops right now.

That said if you know the term SLR, that's a film camera, DSLR is a digital single lens reflex. You can read lots of information on the web, I recommend Wikipedia, about these cameras. Anyway the single lens part means that when you look through the view finder of one of these cameras you are actually looking through the camera's lens - and that's a good thing.

For camera brands I always recommend Canon simply because I own them and this company has always impressed me with their attention to quality... they've been in business for decades and continue to make excellent products.

Here's an excellent place to do research on dslr cameras. Also check Wikipedia for information.
Good Luck.

Is it true that the Canon T4i camera has been discontinued due to a factory recall?

iC1

I was told this by several different sales reps at Best Buy on different occasions.
One even showed me some article about it. Something to do with an allergy that some people may have to the material used in the grip on the side of the body.

If this unit really was recalled and discontinued, why does it seem to be onsale still?
Example: http://dzurl.info/Qf8QpC

Does anyone know anything about this?

Answer
No, it's not true. Only a certain number of units are affected. So, don't worry. Here is the problem...

"The front rubber grips of some EOS REBEL T4i units produced in certain lots may turn white after a short period of time. We have determined after inquiry with the rubber manufacturer and analysis, that the white substance is zinc bis (N,Nâ-dimethyldithiocarbamate). Zinc bis is not used in the production of this product.
However, the quantity of rubber accelerator used in the affected production lots was slightly higher than usual. As a result the rubber grips may turn white due to a chemical reaction with the rubber accelerator and other substances. High temperature and high humidity may contribute to this condition. Zinc bis (N,Nâ-dimethyldithiocarbamate), which becomes deposited on the rubber surface, is created as a result of this chemical reaction."

From Canon's website...
"Product Recalled for Repair
Some EOS Rebel T4i digital SLR cameras sold from June 11 through August 1, 2012 may be under recall for repair.

You can use the serial number to check whether your camera is affected by this phenomenon. If the sixth digit of the serial number is "1" please follow the procedure below. If the sixth digit of the serial number is "2" or higher, your camera is not under recall for repair."

So, if intending to purchase the T4i...it would be wise to check the serial number before you buy it.

is the ROYAL II a good camera for begginers?

Nicolas

i know its a fake, but i started a photography class that you HAVE to have a 35mm camera.
spent 20$ on it from a local store.
its "focus free" i dont know what that means though.
and motorized rewind and motorized spool, which means you dont have to pull a lever everytime you want to take a new picture it does that by itself.
it has a good viewfinder and also has a top view which sort of looks like a screen that is a viewfinder.
heres a picture i found on google because i cont find my digital camera: http://www.julian.cl/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/100_3394.jpg

Answer
It is NOT a good camera for "beginners" since it has NO controls a beginner can use to learn how to balance shutter speed and lens aperture to get good exposures, nor does it have a lens you can focus

In order to complete the classes in photography, you must be able to change the shutter speed and lens aperture. Such a camera will cost you around $100 with a lens. You can find them on craigslist in a city near you, on the schools bulletin board in the art department or in some camera shops that sell used cameras. Look for a Nikon or Canon EOS camera. The old Canon SLR's that use FD and FL lenses are a dead-end system

NOTE: "focus free" does NOT mean auto-focus. It means that the lens is permanently set to be in focus at 2m or 6 feet. This Royal II is NOT a Canon camera and is just one of the ripoff toy cameras that are being sold to intelligent but uninformed people thinking that they are getting a "great deal" when in reality they just wasted $20 ... or more

How would I, even with MOUNDS of credit card and college loan debt, be able to finance a RED SCARLET camera?

Todd Lajoi

I cant really make money without shooting my films using a RED. Industry is too competitive not to.

Answer
No offense, but I don't think an individual who claims to have mounds of credit card debt and college loan debt needs to be dropping $7,000 to $12,000 on a camera.

>>I cant really make money without shooting my films using a RED. Industry is too competitive not to<<

That's a good point. It's not like the number one film at the box office this past weekend made $24,000,000 in gross ticket sales after 80% of it was filmed with DSLR cameras.....Oh, wait, that's EXACTLY what happened.
