canon digital camera got wet image
My mother went to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World and had her new digital camera in her lap when riding Splash Mountain, which gets everyone soaked. Now the LCD display is going to a white screen or is very faded when taking pictures. She is asking me if the two are correlated. Unfortunately, I believe they are, but I was wondering if anyone else has any suggestions, or if my hunch is correct.
Answer
the LCD is very sensitive, and it can go bad from getting wet or even bumped if to cold. I would suggest that if it had been turned off or left off and allowed a day or so to dry out it might have been ok.
Yah the rides at amusement parks are hard on cameras, between the getting wet or getting bumped around, and if the camera is not kept in a safe padded bag they often get broken during a vacation.
Often the LCD can be replaced. How old is the camera? If its under a year old a call to Canon tech support might be a good thing. I might omit the wetness unless they ask about it. Maybe the store that sold it if it was a big one, Like best buy, can do a exchange for a defective camera... good luck hope this helps. Otherwise the screen can be replaced, but often its close to the cost of a new camera.
Also if paid by CC it might be covered by the CC card, esp if AE.
Take care and Good Luck

How would you rank the following digital camera brands?
gdorsey
Olympus, Nikon, Kodak, Samsung, and Sony
I'm looking to buy a camera for my son's birthday and the price and mega pixels between them all seem to be the same
Is a 7.0 MP a BIG step down from a 8.0 MP camera?
Answer
Unless it's an SLR camera ($500 and up, lenses separate) anything over 4 mp is just hype. Under normal circumstances most pictures taken will be at about 3 mp (normal setting).
Over all the others I'd go with a Canon.
I would go with an Olympus Stylus if I was worried about getting wet.
After that I'd go with a Nikon.
I would skip the other brands.
