Canon A300 digital camera got wet and does not work. How can I make it work again?

Subhash

Camera was wet in the river water while rafting two weeks ago.

Answer
If it was just plain water, let it dry and try it again. If it was any other liquid, like beer, soda, pool water, ocean water, etc, it might be ruined. Take it to a camera store and see what they say. If you send it in for repair, it won't be covered under your warranty, by the way.

My Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS Digital Camera stopped working after 6 months?

Meagan

Has anyone else had any problems with this type of camera? I had mine for about 6 months until one day it wouldn't turn on. At first I assumed it was the battery, but after recharging it, it still wouldn't work. Could the rechargeable battery, which came with the camera, be broken or is it the camera that's messed up?
The only thing I can think of that might have caused my camera to stop working it is that I had it in a bag with a water bottle which could have gotten the camera wet from its condensation. Is that really enough to break a 200 dollar digital camera?

Answer
It is under the Canon one year warranty

Call them and get an RMA number and have them repair it for you.

800.OK-CANON

EDIT: If Canon finds that the camera was damaged by water, you will have to pay for the repairs. YES, water can do that to even a $6000 camera. Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and Sony all make waterproof cameras.

Underwater Digital Camera help?

oh heyy

I want to get an amazing underwater digital camera, I love photography and don't want to have to worry about the camera getting wet. I also would love it to have as good a zoom and picture quality possible. I really like the Canon Powershot d10, but it is so bulky and I'm scared that if I buy it, a new, better camera will come out. I don't need a new camera until summer 2010, do you know if there will be a new model of an underwater camera coming out?!

Thanks!

Answer
I recommend Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD

Can a Canon A720 IS get soaked and still work?

canon digital camera got wet image

My mother went to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World and had her new digital camera in her lap when riding Splash Mountain, which gets everyone soaked. Now the LCD display is going to a white screen or is very faded when taking pictures. She is asking me if the two are correlated. Unfortunately, I believe they are, but I was wondering if anyone else has any suggestions, or if my hunch is correct.

Answer
the LCD is very sensitive, and it can go bad from getting wet or even bumped if to cold. I would suggest that if it had been turned off or left off and allowed a day or so to dry out it might have been ok.

Yah the rides at amusement parks are hard on cameras, between the getting wet or getting bumped around, and if the camera is not kept in a safe padded bag they often get broken during a vacation.

Often the LCD can be replaced. How old is the camera? If its under a year old a call to Canon tech support might be a good thing. I might omit the wetness unless they ask about it. Maybe the store that sold it if it was a big one, Like best buy, can do a exchange for a defective camera... good luck hope this helps. Otherwise the screen can be replaced, but often its close to the cost of a new camera.

Also if paid by CC it might be covered by the CC card, esp if AE.

Take care and Good Luck

How would you rank the following digital camera brands?

gdorsey

Olympus, Nikon, Kodak, Samsung, and Sony

I'm looking to buy a camera for my son's birthday and the price and mega pixels between them all seem to be the same

Is a 7.0 MP a BIG step down from a 8.0 MP camera?

Answer
Unless it's an SLR camera ($500 and up, lenses separate) anything over 4 mp is just hype. Under normal circumstances most pictures taken will be at about 3 mp (normal setting).

Over all the others I'd go with a Canon.
I would go with an Olympus Stylus if I was worried about getting wet.
After that I'd go with a Nikon.
I would skip the other brands.

Can someone give me some tips on getting a clear good photo?

I'm a kid trying to be a photographer when I grow up and I would like some help or tips on getting good shots. For now the 1 reason my shots are bad is because my old digital camera is in really bad shape, any suggestions any cameras too?

Answer
Getting a clear good photo can be easy enough on the camera's default settings. Once you want to go past that, however ...

Try setting your camera to ISO 100, 1/300 shutter speed (no slower), F6 and autofocus. If your photos are too light, increase the shutter speed. Too dark, try F3 (or in-between the two).

You will very quickly start to get practical experience on what the settings do - and these settings are universal across digital cameras.

With most cameras, they love good lighting. Crappy dark photos are almost a guarantee in dark places.

As far as cameras go, there are plenty very sweet pocket cameras in the $100-300 range. The countertop at my local Target is filled with perfectly fine cameras for the beginning photographer. Get your feet wet with one of these, and soon enough you will be ready for a digital SLR. Canon or Nikon are good brands for DSLRs, but at first almost any DSLR will do.

I have an Olympus E-500 that is serving me perfectly well. Less than $1000 ... aim for that range at first, but try Canon or Nikon, since you mgiht be able to reuse the lens when you, someday, upgrade.

Good luck.

How can I fix a Digital SLR camera that got wet?

Frank L

I know it's probably too late to save it, but how can I try to make a soaked Canon EOS 400D work again?
Update on Details: The camera lost its eyecup during the incident, but everything else is working now. I'm not sure about the batteries, I'm charging them right now, but it looks like the camera's survived. I still feel like wanting to upgrade to the 450D/Rebel XSi soon though.

Answer
If it has been soaked as you say, it probably is shot. You can try leaving it alone for a week or so and reinstall battery and try it again but, it's a long shot. I don't know why some posters would say to buy a Nikon next time as they won't survive being soaked either.

Which brand of digital camera to choose and why?

I no very little about cameras but I am interested in purchasing. I am considering a 35mm, because it is all I know. What are the "don't miss" features I should be sure to get? What is the price range of what brand camera you suggest, and finally what expandability should be considered? Please remember to elaborate on the why.
Thanks.

Answer
Your question is VERY wide. However, there are a few things that you can easily push out of your way to do a better choice at purchasing time.

Brands are a bit overrated. If you are buying a point-and-shoot camera, it's even more true. The only real exception is if you intend to buy an SLR camera, in which case, buying a camera is also buying the lens system which comes with it (you can re-use the lenses from one body to the next; And, boy, does digital tehcnology move fast! You keep replacing them camera bodies).

Anyway, some brands are consistently manufacturing top of the line cameras in nearly all segments of the photo market. As in the analog days, Nikon and Canon are key players, with excellent systems, very good SLR cameras and more than able lenses.

More recent entries happened to take advantage of the general shake-down of the market when switching to digital. It's the case of Sony which moved into 3rd place for SLR cameras out of buying the nearly dead Konica-Minolta. This allowed it to become a leader too, keeping a lot of the history of the blue brand.

Many other names will pop to mind: Pentax, Olympus, Sigma are clearly among them.

In terms of prices, you should first define what you want to do with your camera. Because it could seriously decide which camera body to choose and what lens(es) to choose. All brands run along more-or-less similar prices. Entry level is around $450. Some very serious stuff is seen before $1000. Over that, we enter the enthusiast's realm (if you asking those questions, I would not advise you to look there until you got your feet wet and you understand better the real abilities and limitations of simpler SLR cameras) and the pros will spend several thousand dollars without a hitch.

In terms of expandability all SLR offers will be great, but I would advise 2 things: 1/ Do not overrate the importance of pixel numbers; From 6MP we reached a quantity enough to do good photos and at 10MP most print sizes are available (up to Letter/A4). 2/ Keep your eyes on the quality of the lens. It will live much longer than the camera body. It's worth investing in the part you'll keep.

What would be a good choice for a professional camera to photograph weddings?

Kimberly

I have always had a passion for photography but until recently I decided I wanted to start photographing weddings, engagement photos as well as possibly special events. I want to know what camera would be a good camera with great quality to start off with. Of course cheaper is better while Im getting my feet wet but I do want to impress my future clients with good quality. I was looing at the Nikon D3100 http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-14-2MP-Digital-18-55mm-55-200mm/dp/B00CCGZ6PO/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1370253262&sr=1-3&keywords=nikon+d3100 but if there is anything better in that price rage or less I would love to know! I cant wait to start!

Answer
WHY THE HELL DO YOU PEOPLE THINK PHOTOGRAPHING THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT IN A COUPLES LIVES IS THE PLACE TO START A BUSINESS!

Honestly! Are you all simply fucking retarded or something?

To shoot a wedding you need to have the skills needed to get commercially viable shots in uncontrollable conditions. You have no control over lighting, timing or anything really so you need to be confident in your skills because if you miss the exchange of rings, that's it ... it;s gone. There are no retakes! If you fuck up that shot then you will have an angry and potentially litigious client on your hands.

On top of skill, you need more than one fucking entry level DSLR and kit lens ... you need close to 20000$ in gear.

a- 2 DSLRs (one main, one backup/secondary) @ 1200$ to 3200$ each
b- 24-70 f2.8 1600$ to 2600$ (depends on brand)
c- 70-200 f2.8 1600$ to 2600$ (depends on brand)
d- emergency backup lens ... in Canon, I recommend the 24-105 f4 (1600$)
e- 50mm f1.4 350$
f- 2 ttl flashes at 600$ each.
g- 2 backup camera batteries PER CAMERA at 100$ each (so 400$ total)
h- tons of aa batteries for your flashes
i- a bunch of SMALL memory cards (4 and 8 gig max)

That's the minimum you should have in gear to shoot a wedding then you have the attached expenses like business expenses (liability insurance, office supplies, marketing, business licences ... so on so forth).

So sit back and really think this over before you go and fuck up someones important day and have your ass handed to you in court.
