I have been using basic digital cameras for years but am working on doing photography professionally. I need to know the best camera to get and where I can learn about all the different lenses and stuff. Should I pay for classes?

Answer
First of all, you need to get a DSLR camera, not a point and shoot. Second, you want to get a "Full Frame" camera because they will give you the best resolution. Third, you need to get a Canon because they are simply the very best. They have been in the business the longest and have the very best patents on technology. Fourth, you need to understand that you get what you pay for. If you want to get the best pictures at the best price, the Canon 5D Mark II is the one. My wife and I have that ourselves after starting with a Rebel, then and 50D. The 5D Mark II blew them both out of the water. I mean, the difference was stunning and I feel so bad for the people who had pictures with our older two. You could pay for classes and/or you could do your own research online and youtube is a good outlet for training videos. But I am telling you right now, you have got to get the Canon 5D Mark II.

I need a super digital camera. One that can take pictures of models out doors and on a back drop. It would be great if there was a camera that could take excelent night photos such as a model down town. You can see her perfectly and all the lights behind her not either or. I need the images to be crystal clear for photoshot retouching. I plan to invest so I want the best.
I need a super digital camera one that can take pictures of model on a back drop and outdoors. It would be nice if there were such a camera that could take pictures as night via you can see the model clearly and all the city lights behind her. I don't know anything about cameras so what I should buy with it would be helpful such as items to sync it up with my computer what type of lens what kind of batteries etc. Also I feel I should note that I have no flash equipment I for right now just want to depend on the cameras flash so it should be a good one with possible settings if they make cameras like that. Im going to invest so I only want the best.

Answer
You dont need a D3 to take model shots. Any camera with a hotshoe will do, I have seen some amazing model shots done with a Canon G10. The thing you want is to invest in off camera lighting. Just having a situation where you can expose for a model and city lights is going to be difficult and my guess would be that most of those shots are done by exposing for the lights and then using off camera lighting to light the model. You really dont need a pro body, the G10 if your looking to save some money or any entry level DSLR like the Canon XTi or XSi. A good lens is going to be important though, the cheapest being the 50mm f/1.8 which is only $90. If you have some money you might want to get a 24-70 f/2.8. If you really have some money to throw down get a used Canon 5D and a 24-70 f/2.8. keh.com has some good prices on used Canon 5D.
