Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi?

meme

I have a question, I'm thinking about purchasing the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.
If anyone has had one or does own one, please let me know what you think of it and if you'd recommend it to me. I've seen a lot of GOOD reviews on it and I've seen a bunch of pictures by it. And I'm pretty impressed.

But I'm a bit confused. I have a major budget. And I'm confused about the lens?? Do the extra lens come with it, do I buy them separately and if I do, how many lens do I have to buy and how much do you think they would be? I really need to know this.

Basically, just please fill me in on what you know about this.
Everyone who helps, thank you so much. I appreciate it a lot! Thanks again :)
Wait, you can't record videos on it?? Whatttt?!

All Canon EOS digital cameras are great value for money. The XTi is at the cheaper end of the market but is definitely still a good buy if you aren't interested in any of the more advanced features in the more expensive models.

It is available in two different forms. One is described as 'kit' and will come with a lens which will be detailed in the description of the kit. Commonly the Rebel XTi (also known as a 500D) is sold with either a 18-55mm lens or a 18-200mm lens. The other option is 'body only' and only includes the camera with no lenses.

Since you're starting out and don't have any lenses, you'll be best off getting one of the kit versions.

The 18-55mm is a very basic lens though well matched to the camera. It offers wide angle shots up to slight 'telephoto' or zoomed in shots. You may feel let down by the quality of the lens compared to the build of the camera. In addition, it has quite a limited range, which may be unhelpful.
The 18-200 has a much more versatile range, but is correspondingly more expensive. It is also quite a bit bigger. It offers both wide angle and zoomed in shots. I use an 18-200mm lens as my 'everyday' lens since it offers a solution for most situations.

There is no need to immediately start buying additional lenses as each lens is normally suited to a particular role. Until you find out what kind of photographs you are taking, it is very difficult to recommend a particular lens or lenses.

There are hundreds of lenses available that will fit a Digital Rebel, manufactured by Canon, Sigma, Tamron and others and most will also fit the larger and more expensive Canon cameras. You should treat buying new lenses as an investment in your photography equipment, more so than a new camera 'body'.

For starting out, I suggest the Digital Rebel and 18-200mm lens, if you can afford the extra. Make sure you buy a memory card and then start taking pictures. You'll quickly start to learn what you like to photograph most and then you can start thinking about what new lenses might suit you.
