canon digital camera lens error image

I left the camera in the rain and at first it was working but now every time I turn it on, I get a "lens error" message and it shuts off! If its unfixable, where can I get a new, cheap one under $50?
Answer
personally, i would say youre old camerca is doomed, you could go to the box that came with it and find in the manual or any papers to call canon, ask them what they can do. I tried to find some under 50$ but they were like crappy hannah montana ones, I did altough find two that were 60$ and are pretty cool actually, Digital Blue - Snap! 5.0-Megapixel Digital Camera and Digital Blue - Snap! 5.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black! You could find them at BestBuy.com http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8841239&type=product&id=1208561608174 and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8841248&type=product&id=1208561608241 theyre pretty cheap and pretty good!

How can you fix a water damaged digital camera?
=)Laur
I had my camera in the snow a couple days ago (monday) [today's friday] and when i pulled it out it was wet. I tried turning it on and off a couple times (which i know now is bad for the camera) and it comes up as 'lens error'. Its a Canon camera so i'm concerned about what i should do since it was expensive- any help would be great!

well!!....let's hope that when you turned it on the first time it didn't 'fry' the circuitry...i had mine at the bottom of the lake for 2 weeks before i retrieved it and it still works fine to this day(4-5 yrs ago!!. What I did was as follow:
1- I removed the batteries BEFORE I turned it on.
2- I took the memory stick(Sony type) out.
3-I placed the camera in a the south facing window and waited some time...let it dry for 3-4 days minimum.
4- I carefully took the back cover apart....sloooowly and methodically cleaned the interior circuitry w/contact cleaner(5-6$ can)...mine had lots of fine sediments from the bottom of the lake inside of it.
5- I put everything back together....and,
6- I got new batteries and a new Mem Stick...and THEN I turned it on...It still works fine to this day.
;-)
p.s. If you get it 'serviced' it might co$t more then replacing the whole darn thing...try this first
