I have a Canon digital camera IS. While cleaning the camera I pressed the on/off button & get a message "lens error , restart camera". The lens doesn't close now. Have I messed up with my camera? Any help?
Answer
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct your problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS IXUS 105 Digital Camera is acting weird....help?
Kyra
when i am in the playback mode, looking through pictures, the screen will cut off. the lens does not retract and if i press the on/off button, the camera turns back on, but then cuts off again whenever i'm trying to look through pics. Is this a problem where I need to send it back to the manufacturer or exchange it at the store or can i fix this somehow? Thank you!
Battery is full.
Answer
It shouldn't be doing that. If it's acting up like this, and the camera is new, recommend exchanging it for a different one from your store. If the store won't exchange it, contact Canon to arrange warranty repair (1-800-OK-CANON).
For others running into this issue who don't have the benefit of warranty coverage...
Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on, or has power issues, are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.
