best canon digital camera for personal use image

I want a camera that isn't too fancy. One that is good for taking personal photos for myspace. I was looking at the Canon PowerShot A720-IS at Wal-Mart but they were all out of them.
Is it worth paying $200 for a digital camera to take photos and video or will a $100-$150 camera do just as good?

I can tell you which camera is cheap, and I can tell you which one is good quality... Both in one package - that's a tough one!
Wait 'till Wal-Mart gets A720 in stock. It's a decent p&s for the buck. Stay away from casios, panasonics and all kinds of vivitars, they are not camera companies - the camera they sell are side products made for a hot market to make a quick buck. The real quality lies in the camera manufacturers, who's been making cameras for years. That's Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax.... just about it....
Again A720 is a very good pick in $200 range.

I I am looking to buy a new digital camera in replacement of an old Sony camera that I have for years. Since there are thousands of brands and models available, I would like to know you opinion and recommendation about digital cameras.
My camera is for personal use purposes only, but I like to take good pictures.

Good question. Depending on how old your Sony is, you may save some money on a new camera by sticking with Sony. They have their own memory cards, but the reason for the complication is they keep changing them. Check if yours is a "memory stick pro duo." Maybe you have several? But, if yours is the older purplish one, it won't work in Sony's newer cameras.
Canon still leads the top ten "point and shoot" last I checked. Why not check out the link below and see what digital photography review comes up with for you? They also have reviews, previews and a buyers guide, so you can fill in what you like and a price range and it does the work for you. (By the way: Memory cards have come down in price so don't worry too much about having to switch to the "SD" world. I was just considering your investment so far with my comments in the 1st paragraph.)
Note: Watch for glass lenses like the other answerer who mentions Zeiss lenses. Some lower price Sony and others have plastic lenses which dont take the best pix.
I like the new Olympus cameras that are inexpensive, drop resistant and water"proof" to about ten feet. They are even an advertiser here on Yahoo Answers! Good luck. Hope that helps.
