What is the best SLR camera for a newbie?

I am planning on getting the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this camera or if there is a better slr camera out there? I mainly want something that is easy to navigate because its my first time using a high quality camera.

I agree with the Canon Xsi, great camera for the money! Canon also has a greater variety, and better quality of lenses in my opinion.

Nikon D40, hands down.

It is very lightweight and easy to get used to, the images are great, too.

I definitely do not prefer cannons, especially for beginners.
