Which camera is a better buy, Canon t1i or Nikon D5000?

Pam

I'm looking to buy my first SLR. Which camera would you recommend, the Canon T1i or Nikon D5000? Why? Thank you

Answer
They are very similar cameras. You may want to go to www.cameralabs.com and check the review for both of them. The good thing about those reviews is that they compare both cameras. I would personally recommend the Nikon for two reasons. It will be easier to get used to because of the beginner oriented controls. Second I have a Nikon and I love it!

You might want to consider something else that might be very important, your camera will not make a huge difference. The camera's only job is to get out of the way of making photographs(Ken Rockwell). If you don't believe me check this out

Those pictures were taken with a cell phone camera. I was also in the market before and I was considering the Nikon d5000 but I bought the D40 after doing research, and believe me it is more than enough. When you gain more knowledge you can always sell your first camera and buy a better one. You could also get a cheaper Nikon and invest the rest of the money on a better lense later on.

Can you use accessories for the Canon T2i, T3i, T4i, & T5i for the T1i?

Angela B

I was given a Canon T1i for a wedding gift. It came with some accessories, but I ran across a nice accessory pack for the T2i, T3i, T4i, and T5i and wondered if it could be used for the T1i that I have.

Answer
Buying "accessory packs" is not really a good idea.

They are just a way to part you from your money.

As you learn to use your T1i over the next year or so, you will soon discover which "accessories" you really need. The first will be some kind of photo program so you can make changes to your image files. If your lens does not have a UV filter on it to protect it from sticky fingers, then you need to buy one of them and attach it while your lens is still clean.

The next thing you might consider is a second lens like the 55-250 mm. This lens will allow you to reach out and capture action, sports and some wildlife shots.

If you visit the Canon website, you will see lists of accessories for each camera model. Most are the same, but you will find that some are model specific. You can discover which accessories your camera uses buy going to this link

What is the difference between these two Canon cameras?

Q. I am looking to buy a Canon camera. I have recently given up on Nikon because of two defects in two different cameras ( I know they are a top camera brad so disagree if you want but I am done with them). What are the major differences between the Rebel EOS Xs and the Rebel EOS Ti? They have a price difference of about $200. I am planning on minoring in photography but want to start out with one of these cameras. Which one is better?

Answer
Sorry about your experience with the Nikons as they generally are great cameras. That said, I am currently a Canon shooter myself. To answer your question, the two major differences between the Rebel XS and T1i is resolution and the ability to record video. Specifically, the T1i is a 15 megapixel body compared to 10mp in the Rebel XS. The Rebel XS does not record video at all but, the newer T1i does. If video is important to you, get the T1i. Beyond that, the higher resolution does not equate to superior image quality so you'll be fine with the Rebel XS and have $200 to spend on a second lens if you go this route.

How can I know if the Canon DSLR I am buying on craigslist for cheap is refurbished?

askjdjdkdj

I am buying a Canon Rebel t1i "brand new, never opened" for much cheaper than retail price. How can I tell if the camera has been refurbished and this is why it is being sold cheaper? Is there some kind of website where I can input the number on the box and it will tell me the history? Or somewhere to call??

THANK YOU!

Answer
Sounds like the "horse has already left the barn" on this one. But you might try calling Canon with the model number and serial number and find out if they will repair the camera in the future (you will pay for it-of course) if needed. Some manufacturers/importers WILL NOT repair "gray market merchandise if it happens to be gray market, no matter what. Then you would have to find a independent repair person.

Looking to buy a fancy Canon camera and I need your help?

I'm looking to purchase a Canon Camera at the end of the year but don't know which one to choose. What is the difference between all the different Canon cameras... Canon Rebel, Canon Ti, Canon Ti4, etc.? I have always loved taking pictures. I'm getting tired of my digital camera. I want to expand my photography and start taking really wonderful quality photos. What Canon camera do you suggest I get?

Answer
Fancy huh?

There is nothing fancy about a fully adjustable camera. The simply use a light meter to determine the proper exposure (balancing ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture). That is as simple as it gets.

Add to that, you have a choice of many different focal lengths which makes them more versatile than the really "fancy" P&S cameras the detect smiles, faces and friends faces.

If you think that a T1i and T4i are NOT digital cameras then you need to do more research.

Spend some time on these websites and see if any of the listed cameras fit your needs.

After you have visited these sites and have taken notes listing the features of each camera you are interested in buying, visit this site to see how the sensors all perform.

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Ratings

And finally with your notes in hand, visit a proper camera shop and hold your top choices in your hands. You will get plenty of opinions here, but you really need to do the research yourself to know which camera system is best for you.

Now maybe the bad news.

Taking "really wonderful quality photos" has all to do with your skills, NOT the camera you buy.

You can produce the same boring snapshots on your "tired" digital camera as you can on a $43,000 Hasselblad digital camera unless you have the skills and understanding of the fundamentals of photography. That will take some formal training and time

What is a good external flash for canon t1i?

Her

I just bought my first DSLR- a canon t1i. I like it so far, but I hate flashes on canons, they are a bright white that washes out whatever I am shooting. I try to refrain from flash usage if I can help it but there are certain times that it is just needed, especially with how dimly lit my house is. Are there any better external flashes that i can use that wouldnt give such a white out effect?

Answer
Best thing you can do is to buy an external flash that you can swivel the head of. This will allow you to bounce the light off of another surface and illuminating the subject. Your subjects usually get washed out from direct flash, which can be helped with diffusers. There are lots of flashes out there that will do this. For the T1i you need to look for a flash that uses TTL to meter the flash. This will ensure your camera, flash and lens all "talk" to each other to give you great results.
I recommend the Canon 430 EXII. However there are several offbrand flashes that will do just as well.
However the 430 EXII can be controlled in the menus of the T1i making it much easier to adjust the custom functions of the flash. You won't even have to touch the controls on the flash (most of the time)
