Canon Digital Cameras?

From what I've heard from photographers, Canon is the best brand. I'm looking into buying a Canon digital camera in the $300 or under price range.. any recomendations to one that takes quality photos, and is a good camera altogether?

Well Canon is the only brand I would consider. It consistently gets top marks, and I have had mostly very good experiences from the brand.
All cameras have an auto mode which means the camera will choose the aperture and shutter speed depending on lighting conditions. Others also have manual controls where you can be a bit more creative and have a little more control of certain settings.
It really depends on what sort of photographer you are and what experience you have...

There are 3 Canon cameras I am really liking at the moment and would recommend either.......(not including the digital slr cams of course!)
A good choice is the fairly compact A620, which has 7.1MP, 4x zoom, excellent image quality and has a very handy flip out and twist (vari-angle) LCD screen. The reviews for this cam have been very positive.
The new S3 IS, is a bit larger in size and has 12x optical zoom, 6MP, optical image stabilization and takes very good video in stereo sound...probably not a good choice for an absolute beginner.
Another one which i am liking the sound of is the new Powershot SD 700 IS/or Digital Ixus 800 IS in some countries. It has 6 MP, 4X zoom and is primarily a point and shoot camera, with limited manual control, takes excellent quality pics, is extremely compact and has the added benefit of having optical image stabilization to lessen the chance of blurry pics. It would be the sort of cam you could carry with you all the time, say in your pocket or handbag.
Just remember though, that most digital camera pics need some sort of post processing via Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro or other software on your computer to get the best results. Check out these sites for an insight into different cameras...

Cnet.com has reviews of hundreds of cameras, including this one that is getting close to your $300 price. They list places it can be purchased online and with your Canadian Looney at an all-time high against the US dollar, you should do pretty well. I know there are some taxes you'd have to pay, so maybe you could find it at a retailer close to you.

I want to buy new digital camera ,because i had 3 but no luck this time i need to be more careful my bughet is about 300 to 400 hunderd and i need something not big so i can carry all the time , and very nice picutres so i can use these picutres in my website too. please help me with that and let me know what can i buy best for my buget, thanks

If youâre looking for a point & shoot, user friendly digital camera, I have to say, I like Canon. Nothing against other the other brands. I prefer Canon based on personal experience and their reputation.

Consider the Canon PowerShot models, the A630 or the A640. These compact models have helpful pre-set shooting modes that you choose for the particular picture situation you are about to shoot. Like: auto(matic), portrait, nighttime, landscape, indoor, snow, beach, kids & pets (subjects that wonât keep still), and more⦠You can also be creative with these models, where you can choose special FX settings as you are shooting a pictures and have the option to program/set your own manual setting, so check the specifications. You should bear in mind, with physical size of the camera, (subcompact/slim/flat vs. compact), you compromise features that are available on the compact/slightly larger models.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

I am looking for an everyday point and shoot digital camera that can fit in my pocket and withstand some water. Olympus Stylus Tough series seems great except all reviews say photos are not sharp and are too soft. Canon D10 says photo quality is great but camera is big and ugly. Any first hand suggestions? I would like to keep the price under $300. I am currently using a Canon G9 as my daily camera but want something smaller.

How much am I looking at paying to repair my camera lens?

It's a retractable lens (I guess?? I'm not a camera person) but anywho, it was all the way out like I was about to take a picture and I accidentally dropped it on tile floor. Now that just made one of the levels of the retractable lens bend in a little, and it's done that before and I've just popped it back into place (which I'm sure i not the best idea but thats how I learn) so I attempt to pop it back into place and it totally goes way inside and the par t ( I guess the shutter that opens and closes when you turn it on and off) just broke off...all of it still works but when I try to turn it on the lens tries to come out but it can't cause it's stuck inside. So anyway...I haven't messed with it anymore cause apparently I can't fix it but I was wondering how much the repair of this would cost. It's a Canon digital camera if that matters. If this doesn't make sense just e-mail any questions. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately it will likely cost more to repair than to replace. Even if its under warranty, abuse such as dropping isn't covered. You may as well begin shopping for its replacement.
Since you didn't say what model Canon you have I'm guessing its a digicam. Check the Sept. 2007 issue of Shutterbug magazine for a review of five 10 megapixel digicams. You can also access it at shutterbug.com.

When you get your new camera, secure it around your neck with a good neck strap. In 36 years I've yet to drop a camera. My camera is either in my camera bag or hanging around my neck.

I would like to put together a video from clips taken on my new Canon digital camera. I used the iFrame 720p mode as I've heard it edits better than standard MOV's. I bought a canon powershot sx30is digital camera. when i checked its review on some sites they speak of missing raw files as a disadvantage. What is it, how does it work and what is it use for.

When you shoot in jpeg, the camera takes the info, applies the settings you chose (white balance, saturation ... so on so forth) and then discards all the extra information. Jpeg also compresses the image, this comprsssion results in some loss of quality (not a ton but still).

Raw is just that, all the RAW sensor data. This gives you greater flexibility when it comes to adjusting exposure, white balance, contrast ... also any post processing you do to a RAW file isn;t permanent so it's great for making adjustments.

how do i use the intervalometer on my Canon Powershot s70 digital camera?

I see how to set it, but when I do, the camera goes to sleep in between exposures. I set it to take 100 pictures, one a minute, but after 30 seconds the camera goes to sleep (i.e., lens retracts) and it does not wake up for the next exposure. Any ideas? I want to take some time lapse shots and can't quite figure out how to make it work.

Have you tried turning off the power saving mode.

In the setup you should find "Power saving" with the option to "Auto power down" (on/off)

What's the best version of the canon powershot digital camera?

I want to get a canon powershot digital camera, but there is more than one version, and I don't know which is best. I need a widescreen, so I can get everything in the picture, without half of something being cut out of the shot. like only half of someone's head makes it into the picture, ect. I want to avoid that from now on. I heard powershots had widescreens, now I just need to know which one to get. Thanks.

I wouldn't say it's the best version of the powershot series of cameras, but the S80 and SD800 are the *only* powershot cameras that goes down to 28mm focal length (using 35mm equivalent terms), which is considered a wide-angle focal length. (btw...it's called a "wide-angle" lens, not a wide-screen lens :) )

The SD800 got dinged in its reviews, due to image softness though. You might seriously want to consider some alternatives. The Panasonic line of compact cameras have generally had outstanding reviews.

As far as other Powershot models, the G7 is supposed to be its "flagship model" with a 35mm-210 6x zoom lens, but doesn't go down to 28mm. the A640 is generally considered to be almost as feature-rich as the G7, but has a standard 35mm-to-105mm 3x zoom lens. The G7's interface is more slr-like than the A640 (and will give you the control to shoot yourself in the foot if you don't know what you're doing), has a very useful hotshoe for flash, and offers some nice control features, but drops some of the consumer gadgetry, like the flip-out vari-angle display. The A710 has the G7's zoom lens, but it's stuck on a smaller sensor, so its image quality isn't as good, and the batteries (2 aa batteries) mean that flash recycle time suffers. The S80 is an interesting form factor, which shares the G7's control dial, but has a smaller sensor.
