canon digital cameras?

Q. hey i've been looking to find a new digital camera. i love taking pictures of things whether it's my friends and me or flowers. i want something w/ nice zoom and that makes good quality pics. i also would like a canon camera...i think they're really good. can anyone tell me a nice canon digital camera that isn't too much money? i mean something below like 400...300 would be my highest probably! i like slim and small so that it fits in my purse and i also said that i like nice zoom...any ideas? thnx :-)
ya well i just want something that has better zoom than the crappy sony one i have now! i'd be happy w/ 4 or 5x zoom it doesn't have to be like 10x or whatever! i need better zoom because i take closeup photos of flowers and other things like that...i think i'm pretty good
but the sony makes the pics come out all fuzzy and everything...my dad's works much better
plus i'm going to france w/ my school in two years when i'm in tenth grade so i'd want something small and not too big so i can put it in a little purse or something

Answer
I LOVE my Canon PowerShot A620. It's a 7.1 mp camera which takes awesome still shots, and just as awesome video. Great for vacation and home use. A great all-around camera.

I had a Sony, and I gave that to my daughter, and purchase the Canon PowerShot A610 for my teenage son. The Canon A610 is exactly like my A620, but is a 5 mp digital camera. They both take GREAT pictures, but my favorite thing about the camera, is the vari-angle LCD screen. It is very easy to use, and a camera you can grow with.

I'm a bargain hunter. I purchased both NEW Canon this past late spring. My son's was under $200 and mine was $204. Just Google or Yahoo! Search for Canon A620, then for the merchant with the best price, and order on-line. The price is waaaay better than going physically to the stores. If you need it right away, just upgrade the shipping. It's still cheaper than buying at the stores. No matter what model camera you're searching for, better prices are on-line.

One of my favorite settings our A610/A620 has is,called "kids&pets". Typically you use these on the subjects that usually has a hard time keeping still. But I also use this setting when taking pictures of my soccer team during game play. I've also taken pictures of my kids, nieces and nephews jumping in the air, a la cheerleader jumps, with great results. Lag time is very, very, very minimal. (i.e. delay from pressing button to actual camera capturing the shot).

I don't know if you'll find these models at the stores. They have newer models, the A630 (8mp) and the A640 (10mp), they boast more mega-pixels. But 5mp, more than suffices for most users. What I did was physically touched and feel the camera at the store, then go on-line to purchase.

Here is the link if you'd like to check out the specs on these Canon cameras: http://www.usa.canon.com
and go to 'products' to 'consumer products' to lead you to the cameras. Check out the zoom on this and other Canon models.

While you're searching on-line, you'll also find many reviews on these cameras. All raving about the camera. You'll also find information on these cameras in Yahoo! Tech.

Hope this helps.

Is the Canon PowerShot A640 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom a good camera?

CryBabyChi

For approximately $337.83 and the fact that it comes with a free memory card, what do you think?
10 MP, 4x Optical Zoom?
Good for the price?
Nice camera?

Answer
Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I'd buy it myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

Will Canon L-1 zoom Lens fit any other Digital Camera or CamCorder?

Aviator

have a nice 15x CL 8-120mm Zoom Lens that was standard on the Canon L-1 Super-8 CamCorder. Is there any digital still or video camera that this lens will fit onto ? If so, can it's iris be automatically controlled by the digital camera ?

Answer
no. the L1 was Hi8 not Super8 a video camera, not motion picture film. i think that canon may have made an adaptor to adapt their 35mm film camera lenses to use with the L1 and L2 series camera. i have never heard of an adaptor to retrofit L1 type lenses to other cameras, much to the chagrin of L1 owners when the XL1 was introduced.

the L1 and 2 were 1/2 inch format CCDs, a common size in the 90's but almost no video/digital cameras use that CCD size anymore. the size of the CCD affects the focal length needed by the lens so the longer lengths of the L1 and 2 lens are impractical for modern cameras.

How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?

I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.
I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Answer
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it.

This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.

Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom.

I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

What is the cheapest way to get a digital SLR camera?

Ja

And don't say steal it!
I am a student photographer, and I used a standard canon digital camera, but I wan't something with more optical zoom that can be digital. I already have a canon film slr that my mom used to have, and frankly it is quite old and a hassle to carry around. I decided it might be best if I went ahead and invested in an slr, but i know those are extremely pricey! So, do you know where the best deals are for slr cameras, both on and offline?

Or, if not, do you know what the best slr STYLED digital cameras are that are out there?

Thank you so much!

Answer
Depending on how serious you are into photography and what type of photography you are doing. I would personally recommend a second hand or refurbished digital SLR for starters. I bought mine second hand and paid only 1/4th of the original price.I own Canon EOS 10D,you can see some of my photography on my website.

Then for the lens, the only problem with second hand is to be very very careful. You'll need to check and make sure that the glass has no marks and there is no dust inside, otherwise buy a new lens. Oh as you said you have a canon film slr, if it has autofocus lenses, you can use them with the digital slr so buy a body only and use existing lenses.

Also note that, because the digital slr doesn't have sensor same size as 35mm, so whichever lens you use, you have to multiply it by 1.6 so for example 17mm lens will be converted to approx 27mm on digital slr.

Hope this helps.

P.S. : To start a photography as a student, none of the compact digital or bridge cameras will help, u'll need digital slr (depending on how serious you are as i said). Otherwise yes there are some digital bridge cameras which provides you with almost all features of an SLR but too slow and quality is not same. A canon bridge camera for example is Canon PowerShot G series or Canon PowerShot S2IS.

how many pictures will an 8gb sdhc card hold using a 10 mp camera?

best canon digital camera zoom on Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55mm IS II Lens ...

I am thinking about buying a 10 mp Canon digital camera with a 20x zoom. How many pictures would a 8gb sdhc card hold approximately? Also is there a chart where I can find this info? Thanks

Answer
Check the Memory Card Storage Table at this link:
http://www.digitalphotographywebsite.com/memorycardstoragechart.html ...

Would choose a 3 MP setting unless you plan to print a photo larger than 8 x 10 inches. You actually lose picture quality when you crop a higher MP photo down to a smaller size. It also takes more money, memory space, processing, and transmission time with a higher setting.

Most companies are touting high mega pixel to sell cameras, but high mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for large pictures or enlarging parts of pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

The memory card I like, bought, and have tested is the Kodak 1GB for $10.88 at Walmart. Had liked SanDisk, but had trouble with two and these were a little more expensive so took them back. Both seemed about the same speed, but PNY was really slow. Don't like to put too many pictures on one card because something could go wrong and all pictures would be lost. Also, different cards could be used for different subject areas.

The number of pictures that memory will hold depends on the mega pixel setting on your camera. My camera will hold about 900 pictures with a 1 GB memory card and a setting of 3 mega pixels. It will take 84 minutes of video at 30 fps. Could use a 5.2 mega pixel setting, but there would be no improvement in picture quality.

The best way to move pictures to and from a memory card and a computer is with a card reader. If there are no memory card slots on your computer, purchase a Targus card reader at Walmart for $8.88 or another brand for less at Ritz/Wolf/Kit camera. Also, they do 3½ x 5" digital prints for 6¢ each on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Can anyone recommend a good digital camera with a zoom of at least 100 - 400 mm?

Bluebird

I currently have a Canon Rebel 2000 film camera and a Vivitar 100 - 400 mm zoom lens and would like a digital camera and zoom lens with similar quality. I use my camera for taking pictures of birds and other animals, so I need a good telephoto lens. I feel overwhelmed by all the brands and do not understand the difference between digital and optical zoom. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Since you have a 100-400mm lens for your Rebel 2000, I'd recommend getting a Rebel XT body as the most economical solution. You could use your existing Canon-mount lenses on it with an extra bonus - all lense focal lengths would effectively be multiplied by a factor of 1.6x. That would make your 100-400mm a 160-640mm!
