I want a new digital camera, and Canon PowerShot was recommended to me. It's for casual, vacation picture use.

What's the difference between the Canon PowerShot SD1200-IS and the Canon PowerShot A1100-IS. The latter is cheaper, but will it be lower quality?

Answer
Canon PowerShot A1100is does not come with low quality. The difference is A1100 use AA batteries make it bulky

How to recover deleted photos/videos from a digital camera (canon)?

Bandito

I accidently deleted pictures on my canon digital camera, and i know i need cardrecovery or other photo recovery tools to install. But then i dunno how. I have installed the cardrecovery software and it says first connect your camera or the memory card to your computer. " I did that". Then i need to know what the drive letter is? I have no clue about this. I think it must be D:.

Can someone help me by telling me step by step how i can get my precious fotos back. For free if possible.

Thanks

Answer
Hi, here is the steps might be helpful to you:
1. Connect the memory card to computer. Under "My Computer", note the drive letter assigned to your camera's memory card (usually G: or H:).
2. Download this program on your compute. here is the link: http://www.asoftech.com/apr/
3. Install and start the program. then select the drive where your lost files located, click Start. Now the scanning process will start to search the deleted files. After a while you will then get a list of recoverable files.
4. Press Recover to perform full recovery.

I am looking into getting a digital camera, canon preffered, because that is what i use for my 35 mm. What one would be recommend best for this?

Answer
It depends on what you mean by "decently priced." I would want no less than 200 dpi for a large print, but even if you can accept 100 dpi - which WILL show some pixelation - you need 2400 x 3600 dots or 8.6 MP. If you get a 10 MP camera, you might be satisfied with the results, assuming that the viewing distance will be 4 or 5 feet at a minimum. For 200 dpi, you would need over 30 MP and that would be cost-prohibitive for all but the very well-to-do.

Look for any 10-12 MP camera and see what you think about prices. I'd consider a Nikon D80 or Canon EOS 400D as being up to the task and still reasonably priced, but with a decent lens, either one will cost you over $1,000.

You might look at a Canon Powershot A640 or SD900, which are 10 MP and have a bigger sensor than a lot of point and shoot cameras. This will cost about $400.

Or, go to http://www.steves-digicams.com/cameras_dig8.html and look down the list for 10 MP cameras and read the reviews. There are only six 10 MP P&S cameras shown.

Is it bad to take a picture of the sun with a digital camera?

Bizzy

I have a point and shoot digital camera, a Canon HS 300 to be exact.
I'm curious to know if taking pictures of the sun is bad for the camera? I took a few today. But can constant pictures of the sun damage the camera?

Answer
Contrary to the other people who answered, Ive heard that the sun can damage the sensor in your camera if it is too bright (time of day) or if your lens is zoomed in on the sun. At sunset or sunrise, you should be ok.

How do I take a closeup picture using my digital camera?

Sridhar

What settings do I set my camera to?
And where would I find the setting?

Note: Mine is a fairly advanced digital camera from Canon.

(Give me the general settings for closeup pictures. What other tips do you have to offer?)

Answer
Most Canon P&S cameras have a "macro" mode that allows the camera to focus on close subjects - Somewhere on your camera should be a button with a little flower - press it and there you go...
