Is there any compact digital camera with proper image quality?

jarvis pow

To be honest, I personally don't wanna pay for some extra MPs and actually I personally don't give a damn of MP size of the camera after my experiences with some slim cameras. It can be somewhere between 1 MP and 1000MP, taht really doesn't bother me. What counts for me is overall balance and image quality I get at the end.

I would like to get your opinions on these. Bcs these look quite sexy to me:
CANON IXUS 100 IS
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD780IS12-1-Stabilized-Black/dp/B001SER47Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1248552121&sr=8-1

Sony-DSC-W290B
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-W290-Digital-Stabilization/dp/B001SEQPGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1248552143&sr=1-1

Have you had any positive/negative experience with these ones?

Do you have any brighter alternatives than this ones for the price range?

Greets,
J.
@fhotoace:
Thank you for the comments! Would you recommend any slim camera for the price range?

Answer
The Canon 1100IS is a very nice camera, less than 200.00, gives very good images for snap shots. IF you want to drop the bucks, the Canon G-10 is top line for image and just about anything else you can name.

I'm looking to get a digital camera to take pictures of my friends and stuff...

I don't know what a good camera consists of like mp and what not...

I don't have a huge ammount of money to work with eather $0-$100

I want a good quality camera with out breaking the bank and leaving me with cobwebs in my wallet...

so any way you can help will be great!!!!
I was looking at this one...I can get it for around 100.
Canon PowerShot A460 5.0MP

Answer
Here's a review of the A460:

http://www.cameras.co.uk/camera-reviews/canon-powershot-a460.cfm

Cameras in that price range will make noisy (grainy) images and that means the quality will suffer.

Unfortunately things don't get much better until you spend a lot more.

But if you absolutely can't spend more than 100 clams, the Canon is the one to get as it's the top-selling brand.

How can i get good Quality Image from Canon A590 IS digital camera?

Gobinath P

Hi all...
Last month I brought one New Canon AS590 IS Dig cam. But still I am getting poor quality image only. Then I donât know the proper setting also. Please any one give the right setting for Good Image. Please.

Answer
First try it on Auto or green mode. Take it around with you on a walk and take lots of shots. Keep it at one focal length (zoom setting). Composition and holding the camera still is the most important thing to learn.

Read the manual to see how to use it in dim light, night or other situations like action shots, close ups and tough lighting situations (snow, night, aquarium).

whats the best point and shoot digital camera ONLY BASED on IMAGE QUALITY? Nothing else matters.?

Answer
The absolute best, most-detailed reviews of digital cameras are on http://www.dpreview.com.

You can get access to all of the reviews, by rating, at this link:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/default.asp?view=rating

The higest rating is "Highly Recommended." Cameras that have received this rating in 2007 and 2008, that are point-and-shoot (NOT digital SLRs):

Canon PowerShot A720 IS (1/9/2008)
Fujifilm FinePix F50fd (12/5/2007)
Canon PowerShot G9 (10/26/2007)
Canon PowerShot A570 IS (10/22/2007)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 (2/7/2007)

I was actually surprised to look at this list. I did not expect a Fuji to appear, and I did not expect there to be no Nikons among the top. I note, however, that Canon has three models on the list, which is not a surprise.

Follow the link above, and you can click right through to the detailed review, including standard sample images.

Digital Cameras?

I love sus

I want to get my sister a digital camera for her birthday. I don't know much about them. What is good as far as mega pixels, memory and price and suggestions on a model? I'm not looking to spend a fortune.

Answer
About $200 is about the minimum that you'll need to spend for a decent, current model digital camera. This doesn't include the memory card- which would be another $40 for a nice 1Gbyte card.

There are a number of really fine products from a number of vendors. Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Fuji are, in my opinion, leading the quality game. Although there are fine products from Kodak, Pentax, Olympus, Nikon and a few others as well. Stick with the name brands! However- each of these companies produce better and worse cameras.

I'd go for one of the compact digicams these days. Their image quality is getting excellent and they're getting faster to use.
Canon and Sony make great little cameras- but they are pricey! you pay for the name and there are high quality cameras from some other mfgs.

Canon does make a lower priced line that isn't too bad. Their A series has some nice models. the A530 is under $200 at some on line retailers, and isn't a bad camera. But a few cuter ones are as follows:

The Panasonic FX01 ($240 at buydig.com) or newer FX07 ($300) have a wider 28mm lens and image stabilization built in- which are both terrific features.

I like the Fuji F30 ($310), or lower priced but every bit as good F20 ($218 at buydig.com). they are the ONLY compact digicams that work well in low light, such as indoors. Both have outstanding battery life and are very quick to start up and focus.

I'm in the market for a new digital camera and with so many brands and selections i'm torn. What is the best brand of digital camera to buy? Do you have a sugestion on a particular model? I really want 8 mega-pixels or better at a reasonable price.

Answer
Kodaks are all right, but there are much better cameras out there, IMO. A lot of their cameras are extremely slow and the pictures are horrible.

My favorite brands are Canon, Panasonic, and Sony (and Nikon for DSLRs).
A great all-around camera is the Canon A720 IS. It's really nice, and it has full manual control in case you want to start learning more about photography. The image stabilization helps too.

Another camera that is really good is the Panasonic FX30. You can find it for around $170. It has a wide 28mm lens (that means the lens can zoom out more than normal). It is also very small, and it also has image stabilization. While it doesn't have manual control, it's still a great option if you just want to take good pictures.

Whatever you do, I wouldn't buy a camera just based on megapixels. While more megapixels will make you be able to print larger, it can actually degrade the image quality when camera manufacturers don't make the sensor larger.
An example of this is in the Fujifilm F30/31fd and F50fd.

The F30 and F31fd were 6 megapixel cameras that had a very large sensor compared to the megapixels they had (the sensor was 1/1.6"). This made the low light shots very good, because normally in low light when cameras boost the light sensitivity, there is a lot of noise. However, when the sensor is larger, the image is not as noisy.

Fuji eventually came out with a replacement, the F50fd. This camera was 12 megapixels, but still the same 1/1.6" sensor. Because of this, the images were a lot more noisy at higher ISOs.

Another thing you want is true optical image stabilization. (digital image stabilization just fakes it). It really helps camera shake and it will allow for better low light shots without the flash.

Best digital camera?

MizButterf

I am looking to buy a digital camera. I would like one that I could take nice sports pictures with. Good resolution and zoom. I just really want the best, but I would like one that is small (that you can fit into a purse), not the ones that you can add lens onto.

Answer
Best digital camera overall, best features.According to reviewers, the Canon A570 IS has the best blend of image quality, features and price, with lots of manual controls to give you room to grow.

I'm looking for a camera that has DSLR-like quality. I know that with a smaller, compact digital camera I won't be able to get a larger sensor but I need a compact camera, I can't carry the bulky DSLRs. What is the best digital camera for image quality, preferably with easy controls and video recording also.
I have looked at micro-four thirds cameras but I want to see if there is a compact digital camera that has great color reproduction and clear picture quality. I'm not too into camera-lingo like what difference ISO makes so if you could find a camera that is best in auto mode, yet still has shutter speed adjustment, etc, in basic terms that would be fantastic!
Thank you for all of your time!

Which waterproof digital camera has the best image quality?

Mommy

So I have been looking into getting a new digital camera and was thinking a waterproof digital camera would be cool to have. I have a two year old daughter and it would be nice to be able to have more freedom on weather and water photos. But I have heard that waterproof digital cameras can have poor image quality. So I was just wondering if anyone could tell me which waterproof digital camera has the best image quality? Which would you recommend?

What point and shoot digital camera should my mom get?

[ApraTur3]

My mom has been wanting a point and shoot digital camera and I am trying to find the right one for her. She's looking for something simple, preferrably with some zoom. Something that is durable with a decent battery life and has good image quality and a couple top of the line features. I was looking at a Canon Powershot A1100 IS but I hear it's battery life is bad so is there another camera similar to it that is just as good and better with batteries? Not looking to spend over $175 if possible.

Answer
The Canon A1000 IS. It has more than double the battery life than the A1100 IS. I bought this camera for my daughter last week on line and paid $154+$6 shipping.
There's also the Canon SD1200 IS which has a better battery life than the A1100 IS.
The Canon A1000 IS and the Canon SD1200 IS have very good image quality.

What are the significant features to look for in a digital camera?

F00LZ

I have a problem. My family bought a camera made by "OLYMPUS" that was 10mgp, 3x optical zoom, 24 shooting modes with a 2.5" LCD. But even if it's 10mgp, the image quality isn't that sharp all the time, unless it zooms really up close. Compared to my other friends, with cameras like 7 or 8 mgp, made by other brands, their image quality is a bit better. I was thinking of buying a 7.1 mgp camera made by "CANON"

What are the key features to help me look for a great digital camera with sharp image quality? Does the brand matter?
The canon camera is 3x and 4x optical zoom. Something like that. Is that alright?

Answer
You know the difference between a 160x320 pic and a 1200x1600 pic, right? Well, the more megapixels, the bigger the picture... Also, the more megapixels, the more expensive the optic chip and the more expensive the camera.

How many megapixels you need depends on what you want to use your pics for... If you want to make large high quality prints, the more megapixels the better... If you're only going to use it to put your pics on the web, 4 or 5 megapixels is excessive... For normal size prints, 7 or 8 megapixels is plenty.

Except! If you like to crop your pictures... That is cutting of the sides, to get a better composition for example... In that case, the more megapixels the better also counts...

What is most important is the quality of the optic chip, closely followed by the quality of the lens... Optical zoom is also very important if you want to use your zoom (and who doesn't?)... The more optical zoom, the bigger the lens, the more expensive the lens, or, the more optical zoom, the smaller the optical chip, the poorer the optical chip...

The better (and newer) the optical chip, the more features it has, like for instance face recognition that the latest chips have... It helps your camera set itself for the best possible shot in all kinds of conditions...

All this is pretty confusing and hard to figure out if you're not a pro... That's why it's good to read good reviews on camera's before you buy them...

Canon and Nikon have been pro-camera-brands for decades and are used by all the pro's... Their easy-to-use consumer camera's are excellent (I just bought a Canon PowerShot 570 IS myself yesterday)... You can't really go wrong with a Canon or a Nikon... Make VERY sure you get the latest model though, or get a VERY good price on an older model!

-edit-

well, the more the better, the better the more expensive... It's ok but not great, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend... Are you looking at an Ixus or a PowerShot? PowerShot would be the better choice if you want best quality and one with a Digic III chip is a better choice than a Digic II chip... It's the next generation... The more expensive ones have IS... Image Stabilization, that helps make sharp shots

What digital camera is best for crisp, focused pictures?

tragikaffa

I would like to buy a digital camera, preferably $350 (US) or under. The main thing I want is good image quality with crisp focus. I'm just starting photography as a hobby, and being able to focus in very clearly is something I really appreciate. I'm pretty open, brand-wise, although I do like my sister's Olympus that she has.
I know it's more about technique, but believe me, it does depend somewhat on the camera. The camera I have right now is absolute crap and will not focus at all.

Answer
What your looking for is more along the lines of being able to use a camera, and not so much a specific camera.

For something in your price range, try http://www.bhphotovideo.com, and do a search for "advanced digital" cameras, or film SLR cameras.

Research their abilitys, and than do another search for pricing and local providers, and go put the cameras into your hand. You want something that feels comfortable, with the dials and buttons in places that feel good.

Edit:::::::::WIthout seeing a pic, its hard to say why your having focus problems. But, honestly, most people that say they are having focus problems are either moving the camera when the shutter is tripped, or are not shooting with enough light to get the camera to set the right focus (assuming your using auto focus). Try using a tripod, and make sure your using your camera's features within its capabilitys.

Anyway, most of the advanced digital cameras in that search will have more features, to adjust most settings, and have a hotshoe for flash or for off camera flash work. They just dont have interchangeable lenses, like SLR's, along with some other differences.

Look up Canon S5 IS.
