The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. well i joined deviant art a while back and looking at all the photography there made me want to learn how. right now i have a mediocre camera but i don't like taking pix with it; it has a P and M mode but it was obviously designed for point-and-shoot purposes, and my dad got this amazing camera for christmas it's so great i'm not really sure what it's called but the strap says Canon EOS Digital. the features i like the most are the manual focus and zoom. the problem is i'm too young for a job and i want to get the camera by like september. so i calculated that if i make the purchase in september i will have roughly $280..that doesn't go far towards a camera :( but there's a small possibility that i can get another few hundred, but i'm really not sure. i could also maybe borrow half the money from my parents; i've done that before. so with the price range being between $300 and $650 dollars, what do you all reccommend? (ps i want it to be digital)

I've owned a Casio Exilim before, and most of their cameras are great for people that have a budget of $200 or less. However, their cameras are mostly good for video recording and the image quality is good, but not as good as Canon.

Most of Canon's newer model cameras, particularly the ones that record movies in HD or Full HD, only record movies in Quicktime MOV (H.264). This file type is NOT compatible with Windows Movie Maker.

However, the A495, being the entry level model it is, does actually record movies in the AVI format...which is fully compatible with Movie Maker.

Movies are only recorded in a standard VGA resolution of 640x480...not HD or Full HD.

Here is an excerpt from the official press release...

Seems digital cameras have a delayed reaction taking a photo from time I push shutter til a second later when photo is actually taken. My camera is on fine setting & has 10 megapixels. (Canon sureshot). How is flash involved with this? Camera is less than a year old.

By way of explaining what's really going on. All automatic cameras, which digital cameras are, have what's called shutter lag.

This lag time allows the camera to focus and expose. This procedure, though very fast, isn't instant, can't and won't happen. Without this time all your photos would be out of focus (fuzzy) and either over or under exposed.

Get the drift? perhaps some reading on how automatic cameras work would be in order.

since it is fairly big, I do not know if it will work for every mini tripod. I want a mini one because I don't really need a huge one.

All tripods have quarter inch screws and all cameras have quarter inch holes in the bottom. (perhaps apart from EXPENSIVE pro equipment)

Be sensible about the tripod dont buy too small a one or it will fall over. I use a good sturdy tripod about £40 and a beanbag (e.g Beanpod) type to carry about with me -it's great for self timer shots and for steadying the camera for low light or time exposures

I thought that the higher are megapixels, the higher is the quality of a picture. Wrong. I tried a 10 megapixel camera from Canon (digital elph) and the pics come out really grainy. Not that the camera is bad, but it's not what I am looking for. What I would like to know is what sort of camera I should look for if I'm looking for a good quality in nature pics, mountains, forests, ocean, etc. Nature in one word. And also how can I make sure that zoomed in images will look good, clear (not obscure), as if it's not taken from too far away.
Now, I know very little about cameras. I would really appreciate if you give me the exact parameters I need to look for, from what range to what range, what sort of lens, what brand, how many megapixels... Details please. And if you know the price ranges, it would also help a lot.
Also, what should I look for the images taken at dusk and dawn, w/t a lot of light.

There are three key things you should look for:

1) Speed. The faster the response when you press the shutter button, the better you'll be able to capture those special moments. This is known as shutter lag. You want a very small shutter lag. The best is around 0.1 second. The worst is around 2 seconds.

2) Noise. In low light conditions, a camera with "noisy" electronics will produce images with lots of speckles. This is similar to "graininess" found on film cameras. You want a camera with very low noise, especially at ISO settings of 400 or more. This will result in nice clean shots in low light conditions.

3) Image sharpness. A crisp image will be the combination of a good lens and image sensor.

The only way to get the best of all three features is to go with a DSLR style camera, such as the Nikon D40. The downside to DSLR cameras is that they are large and heavier that something like a pocket side digital elph.

It realy comes down to a personal perfence, just like the cars we drive or motorcycles we ride.

I have been using Canon 35mm cameras for about 30 without any problems but, I wanted to get myself a NEW DSLR..my first. I did look into the Nikon D40x but chose the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.

When I got my Canon XTi the lens I chose to go with it as from Tamron...18-250 zoom. That Tamron zoom is the only lens on the market with a 14.9 zoom ratio. If you convert the 18-250 into 35 format it comes out to a 28-400 WOW!
