I'm looking at Canon/Sony/Nikon digital cameras... $200-300. Which is best?

Mary

I like Canon, Sony, and Nikon digital cameras because I have each make solid cameras. I am willing to spend between $200-300. I currently own a Sony and thought it took great pictures. I read an online article that looked at a bunch of cameras and the Canon PowerShot 10.0-Megapixel Digital ELPH Camera, Model SD880IS, was the best. When I read reviews for this camera online I read where this camera has a lot of noise from light sensitivity... I'm not sure how much that come up, and it is still new to me. Anyways, I also saw where some Nikon's have a better zoom. Something I read said megapixels do not make that much of a difference anymore. Which qualities should I look for exactly?

Also, Best Buy and other electronic store prices are higher than the following site... http://www.jr.com/..... Is there a reason for this? Will Best Buy price match? I would rather look at the camera before I buy it. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the site for the Canon I was looking at:

Answer
Personally, I like Canon point-and-shoot cameras. My old A620 still takes great photos.
Here are two good sites for reviews and recommendations.
http://www.dcresource.com/buyersguide/
and
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm

Before you order from any online merchant, you should know there are many scam sites out there. âIf it looks too good to be true, it probably is.â Check out merchants at:

Good luck and good shooting.

What is the best compact camera (digital) from (Canon & Nikon..only) ?

What is the best Digital Compact camera i can get from Nikon or Canon .. ?
Specs.

thanks alot for helping me out .. i know am asking for somthing maybe hard to get .. ! :)

Answer
canon sd1200
canonusa.com

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

help with Canon Powershot SX200 IS Digital Camera?

O MTZ

hey what up people? so i want to buy a canon camera but i just want to know if u can Zoom in While Recording A Video?? thanks!

Canon Powershot SX200 IS

Answer
The answer is NO. All (or most) digital cameras have both optical zoom and digital zoom.

Digital zoom should NEVER be used because all it does is allow you to zoom in on the image via software that's in the camera...which means your images/videos become very pixellated and look horrible.

Most Canon cameras DO NOT allow you to zoom in optically while recording a video. But...they DO allow you to zoom in digitally while recording a video (usually around 3 or 4x). Which means the quality will be quite poor.

So, that tells me that Jill (who has this camera) has her digital zoom set to ON. I would advise her to turn it OFF...unless she doesn't mind the crappy quality that digital zoom produces.

Once again, the answer is no. If you want to be able to zoom in while recording a video, you need to look at one of Canon's other super-zoom cameras, instead (e.g. SX10 IS or SX1 IS). Or, buy a camcorder...

what is the best digital camera in canon?

I'm not a professional or expert photographer so I have no idea about the ISO, or noise thing. Whenever I read reviews regarding canon g10, that's the usual words i can see. Is Canon G10 excellent? I really want to buy a slr but I cant afford it.

Answer
I recommend Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera.
If you do a search on reviews of this camera you will find a lot of first time DSLR buyers deciding to get this camera. I am one of them. After years of Point and Shoot camera use thinking the convenience of carrying them and using them was worth it, I came to the realization that I wasn't happy with most of the pictures I took. They preserved the moment but almost none of them were worth blowing up or printing. Mediocre flash, zoom, megapixels, etc limited me and the pictures.

I love all the features of this camera for the price, especially the dedicated ISO button on top and the menu system is very easy to figure out, and the 3 inch LCD screen. There is also the switch to SD memory cards which are apparently easier to use than CF. It is so easy to take the card out, put it in an SD USB card reader, load the pictures and return the card to the camera, rather than have to fiddle around with opening the little door on the camera and connecting a cable from it to the PC.

If you are contemplating buying your first DSLR you must remember that the camera is just the start. You will need to invest in a quality external flash to improve your flash pictures. And there is the various zoom lens, that now utilize Image or Optical Stabilization, a technology worth the extra cost. I was happy to do all this and I am absolutely satisfied with this camera and the Canon lens and flash as well. I now am very happy with carrying a bigger but absolutely superior camera.

Does anyone have a Canon PowerShot A460 Digital Camera?

Legate Tat

I have a few questions:

How good is it?
Can you record movies on it -- with sound?
I'm not a huge enthusiast or anything; I just want something fun -- would this be any good?

If the answer to these questions is "no", can anyone recommend to me a good, cheap digital camera/camcorder?
Also, is the software for the camera compatible with vista?

Answer
This is a very entry-level camera, and the phrase "you get what you pay for" more than likely will apply here. It's a 5 megapixel camera, which is a little behind the curve in the modern digital camera market, and it has a 2" LCD, which is also rather small (2.5" is really standard, and there's actually a significant difference between the two sizes), so composing pictures and shooting video may be a challenge for you.

In terms of video, yes, it does shoot with sound, but the maximum clip length you can shoot is 3 minutes at the lowest quality, so I don't know if that would affect your decision.

I can understand wanting a budget camera, but I feel that this camera is just behind the market curve, and so you are purchasing a camera that is already virtually obsolete at this point.

If I may make a few recommendations, save up a little bit and consider these cameras:

Canon Powershot A560- the successor to the camera you asked about, 7.1 megapixels, their newest image processor (DIGIC III) with face detection built-in (this is a new "must-have" for digital cameras), and a 2.5" LCD. $135

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6- 7.2 megapixels, 6x optical zoom (2x more than the Canon), but the same 2.0" LCD. This camera, however, comes with Panasonic's OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), which can help get sharper pictures in lower light. $140

I think if you saved up $25-30, you could get a budget camera that is right at current market technology levels.

Answer
Canon is a good company, but nothing lasts forever, you have to realize it. If you cherish your camera you can repair it but better get another one, I would advise another Canon as you already have the software and the gadget for it.

i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?

Answer
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.
I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out.
They are...
SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x optical
SD900, 10MP, 3x optical
A630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in size
The two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor.
And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD.
Just make sure you use a fast SD card.
