Good Priced Digital Camera?

Anyone know of a decent priced digital camera for an 11 year old boy? He is just starting out with a digital camera so we don't need anything too extravagant and we also want something durable. Any help would be awesome.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. Focus with shutter button halfway down before taking pictures. In low light, focus on a lighted object at same distance as the subject. To prevent low-light, motion-blurred pictures; use flash "on" (not auto) up to 12 feet or place camera on a tripod or table and use self timer. Check camera shooting modes for special situations. Best light for photos is early morning or evening.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

What should I look for when buying a digital camera?

I just want to buy a good digital camera that I can take with me to concerts. My friend takes her camera to concerts but it really isnt that good, it takes the pictures blurry and I want one that will take good pictures even if the band playing is running around on stage or something.

Start with the budget. This may seem backwards, but it's not. You can find a decent camera to match any amount of money you want to spend.

Next, find a friend who will help you learn how to use the camera. This "friend" could even be the clerk in your local photo shop. By "photo shop," I mean an actual camera shop or at least a camera department where the sales staff only deals with cameras and not dishwashers, too. Buy the camera that your friend recommends so that they will be able to teach you how to use it.

After you know what you are doing and are ready for your next camera - and this will come sooner than you think - you will be in a position to make your own choice.

Not sure what camera they use, but have had great results with a low priced Canon Camcorder. Most cameras don't do as well as Camcorders at video, are much better at photos.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. My choice for a camera that a 14 year old would think was suitably cool would be a Canon Powershot SD600, if you can find it, or its replacement, the SD1000. I'm sure others will recommend this camera.

My brother has the A540 and my mother-in-law has the A530 - on my recommendation - and neither one has stopped speaking to me yet. Based on this and experience with other Canon Powershot cameras, I am now recommending the A550 as a nice and relatively inexpensive camera.

Canon just introduced the A550, which has more pixels, but offers less user control. I'd be happy with the A540, but the A550 is probably also worth considering, especially since the A540 has been discontinued. I've seen it for $140 in some stores like WalMart and Target.

The A550 costs $160 at B&H and, of course, you'll need a memory card.

Alibaba.com has a lot of sources but as for all other trade portals, having "Trust Pass" or Gold Membership does not guarantee that the seller is legitimate, although the chances of them being legitimate is fairly higher.

I have sources for the Digital Cameras, as I, too, source for consumer electronics. If you tell me what you're looking for, I might be able to help you find the product you want.

You can use Trade Portals to find the goods but you have to check all their details. DO NOT USE Western union as a form of payment unless you have a contact in that Country (example; China) who can help incase something goes wrong.

You may also post for help on Alibaba.com in the resources section. As for payment options, paypal is not common in China but there is something that's called Alipay.com, similar to paypal.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the next link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of normal use and have not been recharged.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the next link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of normal use and have not been recharged.

Most NiMH rechargeable batteries lose charge and should be recharged when not used after two weeks, but Duracell and RayOVac new formula 2000mAh NiMH batteries hold charge one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like these batteries at first, but have 12 over five years old and all are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries (about one year old) still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

My birthday is coming up and i've been thinking about asking for a digital camera. Im not really sure of the camera i want so can you please give me suggestions of some good reasonably priced cameras that usually last awhile. The Canon Ixus and powershot range are very good, as are the Nikon Coolpix range, you can get a good one for around 100 euro or 144 US dollars mark, thats 88 in british pounds (dunno where you're from)

Don't go over board on the mega pixels, 10 -12 is perfect for a compact, you only need higher than that if your photos are to be printed in large format. The best things to look out for in order of preference are:

1: A good Zoom, X4 is the average zoom, so X5 - X10 is better than average.
2: At least 10 mega pixel
3: a good sized screen, 2.5 inch - 3inch
4: Basic manual options are a big bonus
5: Rapid shooting is very handy, but you may need to spend more for things like that.
Have a look in shops and keep the above list in mind.

Canon Digital Ixus 115 HS
Nikon Coolpix S8100 (this one is about 200 euro, so its expensive, but a brilliant camera)
