for my birthday recently i recieved a canon eos 1000D but im having trouble linking it to my laptop
i tried to upload all the software that came with the camera but there was a section called 'eos utility' that failed to upload, i tried downloading it from the internet instead and it still didn't work
howvever, apparently i should still be able to connect my camera to the laptop without the software, but my laptop just doesn't recognise it at all, it wont show the device in 'my computer'
all that happens when i plug the USB cable in is it says 'found new hardware' and asks me to uplaod the software (which doenst work)
my laptop also doenst have a memory card slot so i can't do it that way :/
what should i do?

What version of windows are you running? I know with Windows 7 it should find it automatically, either by checking the windows update site, or having the driver built into windows.
I have a 1000D and never have a problem at all with it.
When you plug it into your computer, do you switch your camera to the "ON" position?
I know it sounds stupid, but believe it or not, it could be something that simple.
In Device Manager (right click on My Computer/Properties/Device Manager) you should have either "UNKNOWN DEVICE/CANON EOS/DIGITAL CAMERA" appear under unknown devices.
If that is there, then it just doesn't have the driver installed, which is available from the Canon website.
If not, then pick yourself up a $10.00 card reader, and save yourself a lot of headaches down the road.. A card reader is a lot faster to D/L your photos from the 1000D/XS camera anyway!

i have a polaroid i534 camera n i need help uploading pictures.i tried going to my computer n then the file but i couldn't find it also when i connect the camera to my computer nothing pops out like it should.././

As with any computer problem, try rebooting your computer, as this often clears up communication problems by resetting the USB Bus.
If that doesn't solve your problem, there doesn't appear to be driver support for your camera anywhere on the internet.
It is a very cheap camera, and I suspect that no one is going to spend much time coming up with a 3rd party driver.
Try reinstalling the software, and see if that helps.
If not, a better solution would be to replace the camera with something that would work better.
As I looked at your camera specs, this is a very low functioning, low quality camera. This camera only has .1 megapixels, which is ridiculously low. You would be better off replacing it with something with removable storage, like an SD card and higher number of megapixels.
If you can't afford to replace this camera at this time , consider buying a cheap 35mm camera, as it's quality will far surpass the cheap digital camera.
An inexpensive good quality digital camera, is the Canon A590. It runs about $150. You can find it at newegg.com. If you are looking for something a little cheaper, consider some of the slightly older cameras, running about 5-7megapixels.
If you can find the slightly older Canon 570, it should run closer to $100-130. It has better video than the new 590, and captures 7.1 megapixels.
If these cameras don't fit your needs, check out the camera finder at cnet.com. You can plug in features and price ranges to find something that will work for you.
