In this camera, can the camera make the picture black and white and have an object just be in color?

Which canon model camera, and which line? the next time you ask a question include that little tid-bit of information. It'll allow us to answer your questions more clearly. So, having that said, i may be unable to fully answer your question. So, usually if you just have a little 7 megapixel, slim and slender canon powershot camera, you can't do this. The feature that allows you to do such is " color accent ", singles out a color, and everything else is in black and white. If you want to get this feature, you'll have to spend quite a bit of money, at least 200$ in my opinion. So, i have a canon powershot s3IS, it has color swap and color accent, but it was a three hundred dollar camera, and i guess that feature could have been expected. There's a newer version of this camera that canon powershot s5IS, which is about the same, and has all of the same features
Remember: if you can't afford a canon camera that can do such, you'll have to pay to get a software. ( i haven't heard of a free software which let you do as such)

Canon Digital Camera Question?

I have a canon powershot. Well, so this is totally wierd. All of a sudden, the screen blacked out, and got all fuzzy. Almost like when the cable goes out on your tv. I didn't do anything to it. Any idea's what's up? It appears that everything else works just fine. I can turn it on, take a pic, etc. It just takes' black/fuzzy pics. Any idea where to take it? Also, I wonder if it would be cheaper to just get a new camera?

Do all digital camera batteries have cancer risk?

I am looking to buy a replacement battery for my canon digital camera. It uses a lithium nb-4l rechargeable battery. However, on amazon.. some of the batteries have cancer risk / birth defect warnings, and some of them don't (even though they are the same type of battery). So my question is... do all lithium-ion nb-4l batteries come with cancer risk? or are some just made with different chemicals that may cause cancer / birth defects? Thanks!

It you use the battery properly, you are at less risk for cancer than spending a couple of hours riding your bike in the sun

How can I set up a new Canon 650D digital camera and what are suitable hardware and software that I could buy to use with the camera to view, edit and print my photographs.
Also explain how to set it up and maintain it.

Explain how to set up and maintain the Canon DSLR. Tells me that you bought a DSLR because everybody on this site told you too. Now you are faced with how to operate the darn thing. Simply put you bought more camera than you should have. Well the only thing is to make the best of it.

LETS ADDRESS YOUR QUESTIONS FIRST:
1.You should not get into editing beyond the simple cropping that processors offer for now, you have enough on your plate. I always use a store in my community for most of my pictures.. I do not go into their store except to "pick-up" my order. I use their web site to crop, & order my prints. I don't like putting my memory card into machines that have been abused by every "Tom, Dick & Harry!"
COMPUTER UPLOADING: buy & use a memory card reader ($6.00) instead of the camera to computer cord that drives people nuts.
2. Hardware; there is no hardware to buy now or ever. If you are referring to lenses, you do not have the experience now to go out and spend money on lenses that YOU really don't have a need for yet.
SOFTWARE: you should have connected your camera to your computer for any up dates to your camera, when you first got your camera. Make this a once a year project. When I connected my camera, the web site updated the cameras software so I could use the (then) new SDHC memory cards.
3. Set the camera up and maintain it. Starting backwards unless you use some other size battery you should get yourself about 3 sets of double "A" rechargeable batteries. The best brand are Eneloop. Buy together with a battery charger is the most economical way. If you have a different size battery buy two extras batteries, or at least one. Keep batteries charged , what ever size you use.
4. NECK STRAP- Yahoo does not like it when I use capitals all the time BUT this is perhaps the most important thing you can do. Always wear the neck strap. You drop this camera, be warned-dropping is NOT covered under warranty! The camera belongs in two places only, around your neck or in the gadget bag! Not carry by it's strap in your hands (like that blasted Nikon commercial implies!)
5.Auto setting, most people who own DLSR's recommend against using the "Auto" setting. But I recommend YOU use it until you become familiar with your camera.

I also recommend you invest in some easy to read books by Scot Kelby. He writes in a very easy to read style. I have a few because at first digital was foreign to me coming from a film environment.
The really nice thing about his books beyond the understanding factor is his web site. He often refers you to his web site to make visual presentations easier to understand! This is a real plus for me.
And while we are on the subject of reading you should check amazon for a good book on your model camera. Instruction books are often hard to read because it seems they do not employ "tech" writers anymore and you are left with what is left.

P.S. I just read "Jim A's" advise on the manual. He is correct but I take it one step further. I download and PRINT the manual, leaving out simple things I already know like putting batteries in the camera etc. I take the remaining pages to a large place like Staples and have them cut and spiral bind the rest. I carry this home made manual with me should I encounter a situation I am not familiar with.
All this editing and preparing also enhances my knowledge of the camera and I find I have less & less to refer to. And while I am on my soapbox, get your backside out there and shoot and shoot. Experience is the best teacher!

I have a question about different digital camera models?

I am looking to buy a Canon digital camera. I realize that there are many different models. I was wondering if the later models, or the ones with higher numbers (ex. SD1000 & SD850) are better than the others. Also, I am looking for very good image quality, reletivley small sized,at least 7 mega
pixels, and the option to enlarge pictures without them losing their quality. Which Canon model do you think I would be best off buying?

There is no definite rule for determining quality or features, especially from a company that makes so many models. The best thing to do is compare reviews of the models that have a feature set you are interested in. To see a fairly objective review of different camera models try some of the on line web sites.

I like Steve's Digicams because there are reviews of many cameras, it is pretty open minded (fair) and has a very consistent testing method. Each review is divided into sections and has one called Steve's Conclusion that summarizes the good & bad features of the camera.

The site is also very well organized so you can find cameras by mfg., no of MP or when it was reviewed and there are many links to additional information.

How do you fix a digital camera? [[professionals only please]]?

I have a Canon digital camera and whenever i turn it on, it says "lens error please restart" and the lens is all the way out as if it were already on ready to take a picture, even though it is off. I called the service repair shop, and they are willing to fix it if there's a recepit. The trouble is, we bought this camera six months ago and well, we had thrown away the receipt.

My question is, how am i able to fix this manually?

Sorry, I'm just an amateur. But am rather shocked that they said they'd fix a lens error with a receipt. Believe they forgot to tell you there would be a charge as lens errors are not normally covered. Anyways if you're unable to resolve this directly with Canon, here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, or Canon won't help, they're worth a try:

Setting up a home photo studio to take pcitures of my daughter?

I am looking to set up a home studio to take pictures of my daughter. I will probably buy a Canon Rebel SLR Digital Camera.

My questions are:

1. Is this a good enough camera to take nice pictures of my baby?
2. What else do I need (lights, background, etc) to set this up?
3. How much will this cost in total?

This is for my 2 month old baby daughter. I figure if I am going to spend a lot of money with photographers I might as well buy the equipment and take pictures whenever I want. thanks.

A rebel is fine for this purpose and as photo ace mentioned - savage makes a nice inexpensive backdrop stand that you can use paper roles or cloth with (the paper roles are pretty cheap). For lights, alien bees are always a good start and two B400s (or even one) should do the trick. As for a light meter, well, if time is no object you can always just fire away until it looks good.

I would offer one caution, however. Taking high quality pictures of your daughter has very little to do with equipment. If you know very little or nothing about photography, you could possibly spend a $1000 on all this equipment and be very disappointed in the results. DSLRs are harder to use than point and shoot cameras. You have to learn about lighting ratios, exposure and post processing. I've spent a lifetime learning and while my clients are normally happy with the results, I always see something I could have done better. Maybe a cheap digital point and shoot would be a good place to start and then go from there. You can do a lot of portrait sittings for $1000. Good luck and have fun!

How much am I looking at paying to repair my camera lens?

It's a retractable lens (I guess?? I'm not a camera person) but anywho, it was all the way out like I was about to take a picture and I accidentally dropped it on tile floor. Now that just made one of the levels of the retractable lens bend in a little, and it's done that before and I've just popped it back into place (which I'm sure i not the best idea but thats how I learn) so I attempt to pop it back into place and it totally goes way inside and the par t ( I guess the shutter that opens and closes when you turn it on and off) just broke off...all of it still works but when I try to turn it on the lens tries to come out but it can't cause it's stuck inside. So anyway...I haven't messed with it anymore cause apparently I can't fix it but I was wondering how much the repair of this would cost. It's a Canon digital camera if that matters. If this doesn't make sense just e-mail any questions. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately it will likely cost more to repair than to replace. Even if its under warranty, abuse such as dropping isn't covered. You may as well begin shopping for its replacement.
Since you didn't say what model Canon you have I'm guessing its a digicam. Check the Sept. 2007 issue of Shutterbug magazine for a review of five 10 megapixel digicams. You can also access it at shutterbug.com.

When you get your new camera, secure it around your neck with a good neck strap. In 36 years I've yet to drop a camera. My camera is either in my camera bag or hanging around my neck.
