where could i buy the Canon nb-5l battery ?

Thirdshopp

my Canon camera don't work, the battery is broken, could you help me ?

Answer
I only buy OEM batteries (in this case, Canon). I would purchase it from either my local camera shop OR B&H Photo.... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/425695-REG/Canon_1135B001_NB_5L_Lithium_Ion_Battery_3_7v.html

If you insist on buying a third party brand, then I would suggest that you buy the matching charger to go with it. A cheaper battery may not have the proper charging circuitry for the Canon charger to be able to determine the battery's condition.

IF I were to get a third party brand, the only one I would use is Pearstone (along with the Pearstone charger)....in other words, along with a $19.95 Pearstone NB-5L battery, I would get the $79.95 Pearstone NB-5L charger instead of spending $42.40 for the Canon battery.

WHERE TO GET CHEAP CANON CAMERA BATTERY CHARGER?

Mighty

... that works well and will not mess up my camera battery or camera.

Just want to know best, reliable source.

don't want to just buy something that is imported
but will mess up camera, not worth it.
(Can mention BRAND or DISTRIBUTOR)
MODEL: CANON SD1300, thanks in advance :)

What digital camera should I buy that is comparable to the Canon PowerShot A40?

Nick and A

This camera has been discontinued, but we really liked the features. I am looking into buying another Canon, unless convinced otherwise, and there are too many choices. I am looking to spend about $200-250. Any ideas?

Answer
The Canon 1.9MP, A40 is an old model which was released almost 6 years ago. The newer models obviously have updated image quality and features, faster camera performance, and take better movies.

Canon is a great brand that has some excellent models on offer. Getting a camera with IS (image stabilization) makes sense, so I would recommend either...

A570 IS...7MP, 4x optical zoom, image stabilization, aperture & shutter priority modes. It's a good budget camera. It's main downside is slow flash recovery times.

A720 IS...8MP, 6x optical zoom, image stabilization, aperture & shutter priority modes.
It's my pick...because it's a little better than the A570 IS and has just a little more optical zoom (never use digital zoom, which only results in poor image quality).
And it only costs around $200 or less.

For cost effectiveness and a good power source, you will need to buy rechargeable AA NiMH batteries (high capacity, 2500-2700mAh) and a charger. This will provide 400+ shots per charge. Charge them regularly because their power will drain when not used. To extend battery life, limit the time the LCD is on. Turn it off in-between shots and limit the time you spend reviewing your images. The LCD uses most of your battery power (other than the flash and the zoom).

You will also need to buy a fast SD memory card for fast camera operation and especially when recording high quality movies of (640x480 @ 30fps). Which is so much better than the old A40's (320x240 @ 20fps) which were limited to 10 sec clips. The A720 IS's clips are limited to 4GB. That would be around 32 minutes!

Sandisk Ultra II SD or the slightly faster, Extreme III SD (1-2GB minimum) is my recommendation. They are fast, reliable and come with a lifetime warranty (not to mention, are dirt cheap). Don't forget to Format the card (in the camera's Menu) before you use it and everytime AFTER you have safely uploaded all images to your computer. Doing this will prevent card errors.

good luck...

What accessories do I NEED with a digital camera?

I was thinking of buying a Canon Powershot digital camera. What accessories or parts would I NEED to buy in order to use it? Ex: flash memory, etc. Also, will any flash memory card work with any digital camera? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Answer
You will need a couple of SD memory cards (1GB's are under $15 and 2GB's are around $25) and if your powershot uses AA batteries, buy a four pack of NiMH, 2500 mAh batteries and a charger. If it uses a Li-ion battery the camera comes with a battery and charger.

What is wrong with my digital camera?

Xenu

I bought a canon powershot digital camera a couple of months ago, that I've used maybe 3 times and now the power button is broken. What happens is the camera will turn on, but only if I hold down the power button. Once I let go of the power button it turns off, it doesn't stay on. Does anyone know what it would cost to fix this problem? It kind of pisses me off because I take really good care of it, it's practically brand new, and now it doesn't work.
It is fully charged so it can't be the battery.

Answer
If the power button is really broken and it's out of warranty, it will cost more to repair than to replace. Holding down the power button would not make a difference, but could really cause a problem as it could give a double click which would turn the camera off. I would guess that the battery and camera contacts need to be cleaned as described in the link below. Hope the following will solve your problem and it is not the button.

The batteries mentioned below are new formula NiMH batteries that will hold charge for one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like them at first, but have 12 of these batteries that are over five years old and are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the last link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of casual use and haven't been recharged.

Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

NiMH batteries should be recharged when camera reports batteries low. Old batteries can discharge over night, but may provide normal service immediately after being charged. Battery pairs no longer usable in cameras may work well in flashlights. Do not drop batteries on a hard surface or allow voltage below one volt to prevent polarity reversal.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Never touch battery ends or camera electrical contacts. Oil from fingers will contaminate contacts. Use batteries in matched pairs of same brand and rating. Do not mix old and new batteries. New will only do as well as old.

Digital cameras reset to original settings if batteries are removed for one minute. Time varies with function/camera. Check display/setup menu for non-auto functions and date/time. Remove extra memory to eliminate this as a possible problem. Insert fully charged/cleaned batteries and restart camera. The ultimate non-physical repair for software-using devices is reset by removing power ... VCR/DVD players one month.

Canon camera charger lost can I use a wall plugin to charge my camera?

bethieboo

I lost had lost my battery charger for my canon power shot ss300. I was wondering if I could use a wall charger to hook it up and charge my camera?

Answer
Canon made a charger specifically for the battery used in it. Using any other means to charge it will risk overcharging (shortening the life of the battery overall) and/or overheating the battery which can cause a fire or even explosion.

Think of buying an actual Canon battery charger as insurance and a good reason to keep better track of your camera accessories

I have a camera battery and need to know what kind of charger to buy?

Bryant

I have a Canon EOS 5D camera and our battery charger was stolen. The battery is a Canon E160814 - Battery Pack BP-511A 7.4V.

What kind of charger do I need to buy?

Answer
If you know the model of battery, you can go to a reputable site like amazon.com, adorama.com, or bhphoto.com and do a search. Chances are generally good of finding a compatible charger.
