Digital Cameras for Travel?

I'm looking to purchase a digital camera soon for travel. I'll be taking many pictures and am looking for a camera that has great quality. However, I know next to nothing about cameras- does anyone have feedback as to which companies/models I should look into?

It really depends on what you will be taking photos of and when you be taking them. You got to look at the zoom and flash and pixel quality of the camera, but most important when traveling the weight and size as you don't want to be lugging around a heavy camera.

I really when buying a new camera only look at three models Olympus and G4TV had a recent review of one that may suit you Olympus PEN E-PL2. Then there is Canon now I am not sure of what you like but zoom features is always good and I think they are doing better, but as I could only find G4TV review of Canon PowerShot SD4500 I do say PowerShot models is something to take a look at as it is smaller and still has good quality but in the sources is a link to Canon PowerShot SD4500. Then there is Nikon and it easy to use abilities the models are good and everything take a look at this model Nikon Coolpix S4000 and see the link in the source.

The best bet is to look or try to think of the type of pictures you be taking and look and deiced by asking or looking at reviews of the latest cameras but I would stick to one of these brands as they are in my opinion the best in the business. In short Olympus has the best picture editing and special effects, Canon like the name says it has the great zoom and focusing out of them, and Nikon is the easiest to use. I would go first with the Canon then Olympus and if I had to Nikon. Hope that helps.

Canon makes the best comsumer camera in my opinion. They have really great imagine quality for their size. I would recommond them. Here are a few choices:

Slim and Small- $300-400 limit Canon SD800 IS (Has Imagine Stablization)
Slim and Small- $200-$300 limit- SD600 6MP

Ultrazoom- Canon S3IS (Has Imagine Stablization) 12X optical 6MP

Budget Camera- Less than $300- Canon A630 8MP 4X Optical Zoom

I am looking for a digital camera for travel.?

I am going to be doing a lot of traveling this year and I want a good digital camera that has a good zoom and is great for taking pictures. Everything from landscapes in Ireland and Scotland, to architect in Germany, to beautiful pictures in the Caribbean. I am just starting out so I don't want anything crazy expensive. I was hoping to stay around $300-$350. I had been looking at the Canon PowerShot SX30. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

the fog in ireland and scotland. the spring rain in germany, the sand and salt air of the caribbean, plus the banging around of all that travel.
four simple words - waterproof, shockproof, dust proof and freeze proof.
drop the camera once or get moisture in it and picture taking is done (i know from experience)
not trying to scare you, ok i am. just don't want to see you take a great trip and have nothing to show for it.
Canon D10 or the Panasonic Lumix TS3, they take nice pictures and you don't have to look out the window to see what the weather is like or wrap your camera in 6 layers of towels to keep the sand out.
the D10 has 640x320 video and 3x zoom, @ $250
the TS3 has 1080 HD video. 6x zoom and 3D picture capability but its pricey. @ $400
i have a TS2 and i love it. 720 HD video, 6x zoom. great pictures @ $260
this is just my personal opinion but if i was taking this trip i would spend the few extra bucks and get the Panasonic Lumix TS3. the rest of the waterproof cameras use digital image stabilization (higher iso) and creates noise (snowstorm). pretty sure Canon and Panasonic are the only 2 that have optical image stabilization to reduce noise.

Canon Powershot or Sony Cybershot digital camera?

I'm trying to decide between two digital cameras: the Canon Powershot SD1200 IS (about $230) and the Sony Cybershot DSC-T90/P (about $300). I mainly just want a camera to bring out with friends, take basic shots when I travel, etc. but I also need a great macro setting for photographing jewelry I sell online.

Is it worth the extra $70 to get that fabulous touch screen and extra megapixels, or is the Canon more than enough? Thanks!

Firstly I will just let you know that I am a major fan of both these brands.

Canon are market leaders and the Powershot SD1200IS is one of my favorite cameras. They come in a great range of fashionable colors, so if you are going to be using it when going out with friends you can be sure to impress with it.

The photo quality is very good also and for photographing items it would more than likely get the job done for you considering you had the lighting etc correct.

Sony also make very good cameras but between the two brands there is not much difference I would say. If anything with Sony you are just paying a premium for the brand name, however to some people that have trust in a brand like Sony they may be prepared to pay that bit extra.

Also not sure where you have seen these prices? I have seen these models cheaper elsewhere online.

Best digital camera for traveling?

Hi~

I will be leaving on a long trip very soon and am looking for a digital camera to bring with me. Here is what I am looking for:

Uses AA batteries
Does not require software to upload photos
8 megapixels or higher
Has the ability to manipulate ISO settings.

I'm not exactly a camera aficionado, and I'm not trying to take award-winning photos... just the typical type stuff. Any suggestions at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.

Canon Powershot or Sony Cybershot digital camera?

Digital cameras are so much more feature packed and convenient, even with some risk of theft, I would bring a digital camera instead of disposables. Few tips and things to keep in mind:
- Get an inexpensive digital camera if you are worried about theft (e.g., Canon PowerShot A580).
- Get multiple smaller capacity memory cards (e.g., four 1 GB) in case the camera gets stolen.
- Get a pocketable ultra compact camera and keep it close (e.g., Canon PowerShot SD1100).
- Regarding airport security scanner, I have never experienced memory card failures.
- Bring an international power adapter for the charger or get a camera that uses standard AA or AAA batteries (e.g., Canon PowerShot A580, A590).

my answer.. IXUS and PowerShorts are 2 diffrent catagory. IXUS is ment for compact and convinient for travelling while Powershots are ment for slightly advanced function. Both of them produce good quality. What is best for you is up to your eveluation. Here's a tip, try to get the latest model.

I have a Canon digital camera. I'm not sure if I will have access to any computers while traveling, but I want to take LOTS of photos. Forgive my ignorance about technology, but isn't there some cool, portable device suitable for storing photos, or should I buy a bunch of cards?

My wife and I just returned from a 10 month around-the-world trip and we carried a small stack of memory cards. Whenever one card filled up, we'd burn it to a dvd (at any camera shop or internet cafe) and mail it to friends at home. We'd then store that card away and not re-use it until we received word that the dvd had arrived safely. On a shorter trips, we carry enough memory cards to see us through.
As for the other options...
A portable storage device, while tempting, is just another expensive item that can get stolen or break down. Then there's also the extra bulk & weight of the device and charger in your backpack/ suit case, and the constant hassle of charging it.
The same drawbacks also go for dragging around a laptop.
Uploading your pictures to Flickr or some other internet storage site is too time consuming. You'll spend hours at a time uploading a full memory card. That time would be better spent taking more pictures! Also, European internet cafes are not cheap.

I'm traveling southeast asia and need to buy camera memory for my canon digital camera. I'm currently in phnom penh but will be in ho chi minh city soon and hanoi after that. Where, in general, can i find digital memory? Thanks!

Try Sorya Mall.

They have some photography and camera shops there, so you can probably find camera memory there. If there are none, then Bangkok would be the next place to find such product.
