digital camera?

vnoe07

I am looking into buying a compact digital camera and wondering what would be the best buy??? I'm looking to spend 200-300 on it. I'm not overly computer savvy, so something simply and good quality. Am I asking too much? Any suggestions???
I have heard that the Canon Powershot is good....but which one???
thanks so much

Answer
You're right about looking into Canon's. They have several in your price range. These prices are from B&H Photo, available through Yahoo! Shopping.

A630 - 8.0 MP - $195
A570-IS - 7.1 MP - $207
SD1000 - 7.1 MP - $209 (Silver)
A710-IS - 7.1 MP - $239
SD1000 - 7.1 MP - $240 (Black)
A640 - 10.0 MP - $260
SD750 - 7.1 MP - $275 (Silver or black) (no viewfinder)
S3-IS - 6.0 MP - $297
SD700-IS - 6.0 MP - $305

My order of preference would be almost the reverse order of that list.

Sleek, ultra compact cameras:
SD700-IS, if you can still find one. This is a very cool camera.
SD730, has no "image stabilization" or optical viewfinder, but has the newest image processor and very true colors.
SD1000, is an update of the extremely popular SD600 and it should be just well-received.

Compact cameras:
A640 and A630 - I'd buy one of these myself for the really great image quality and user control that is available, if you want it. It has the largest sensor in the list, which is always an attraction for me due to the image quality.
A710-IS - called the "poor man's G7" by some.
A570-IS - cheaper and possibly as good as the A710-IS

Ultrazoom:
The S3-IS is the way to go if you want to take ultra zoomed close ups of things far away.

Out of the bunch, I'd buy the A640 or SD700-IS for myself.

Digital Camera....?

Q. What is a good yet cheaper priced digital. Thanks!

Answer
Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

If you want to trim the budget a little, the Canon Powershot A430, A530 or A540, are all great choices. You will still need a decent memory card as discussed above, though.

I am looking for the best ultra compact digital camera. Different websites have their own review..

Answer
You weren't very specific on your requirements but I can steer you in the right direction, first head over to Cnet reviews and look at the Editors top cameras, http://reviews.cnet.com/Digital_cameras/4521-6530_7-5021301-1.html?tag=dir then take a look at Steves-Digicams, http://www.steves-digicams.com/ (note that the Canon A610 and A620 were top picks by both websites but they are not ultracompact, Steves-Digicams even has a "The Best" section, http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html and then you can check out Dpreview, http://www.dpreview.com/ and lastly for user opinions head on over to Epinions, http://www.epinions.com/ using all of these sites you should be able to narrow the field pretty quickly.

I just came across the Casio Exilim EX-Z120 which features 7.2 Megapixels, 3X optical zoom, 2 inch LCD screen and uses AA batteries, the reviews seem to concur that this is a nice camera, all the places I listed above have reviews of it, check it out.

digital cameras....?

Q. I have been looking into buying a digital camera for the holiday seasons that are about to approach us. Now, which ones do you think are the best brand, quality, all of that stuff. I dont really care just a couple specifics: need to be able to see the pic on the screen, and not extremely costly. HELP!

What do you think about the Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Camera?

star_fire2

I'm going to get a new camera (old one's not working) and I want a really good one that I'll get my money's worth out of and be able to take great shots, even videos, just for everyday things as well as events. I found out about this one and reviews made it sound great, but I'm just getting backup opinions before I decide to buy it. I even found a site to get it for $160 instead of $400. So if you could rate it 1-10 and say why, or just give comments, that'd be great.

Answer
Canon's SD models are excellent ultra compact cameras, and the SD600 was a very popular model about...1 1/2 years ago.

It's a very good little camera but, you might also want to consider a newer model. Maybe the SD1000, which features the latest Digic III processor (which means the camera will be faster and image quality is better). It also has a higher res. LCD and other improved features.
You would need to buy a high speed SD card for optimum camera performance.
The camera is available for just over US$200 (online)...which is not much extra to pay for newer technology.

But, if you are not prepared to pay extra, then the SD600 is a fine little camera. Just make sure you buy a fast SD card (Sandisk Ultra II or the faster, Extreme III). 1-2GB is a good minimum, which will provide plenty of storage for photos/videos. Make sure your photo quality is set to...Superfine/Large..and your movies, 640x480 at 30fps.

good luck...

digital camera!!!!!!!!?

shortzinat

what kind of didigal camera should i get? how many megapixcels should it be to take really good pictures? and it needs 2 be under $$$$300!

Answer
Look at the Canon Powershot A630 or SD600. By the time you add a 1 GB memory card, which I'd recommend, you are right at your $300 limit. If you want to keep it under that, consider an A540, which I just saw advertised for $170 for the weekend at Circuit City.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. If you can go over budget a bit, the A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for being a 10 MP camera.

I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

The A620 was rated about twice as good as any as far a battery life. I hope the A630 and A640 are just as good. Use Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries and you will be happy with battery life.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera. I see a rebate on the Sandisk Extreme III cards that actually makes them cheaper than the Ultra II's, so there is no reason not to buy the faster card. The rebate offer ends 12-31-06, though. If you don't find this elsewhere, I saw it at http://www.bhphotovideo.com

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a630.html

If you want a sleek, smaller camera that will easily fit in your pocket, consider the Canon Powershot SD600. It gives up some of the features of the A630 and 640, but at least it still has an optical viewfinder, which I consider to be essential.

If you want to trim the budget a little, the Canon Powershot A430, A530 or A540, are all great choices. You will need a decent memory card, though. I'd say get at least 512 MB.

You're right about looking into Canon's. They have several in your price range. These prices are from B&H Photo, available through Yahoo! Shopping.

A630 - 8.0 MP - $195
A570-IS - 7.1 MP - $207
SD1000 - 7.1 MP - $209 (Silver)
A710-IS - 7.1 MP - $239
SD1000 - 7.1 MP - $240 (Black)
A640 - 10.0 MP - $260
SD750 - 7.1 MP - $275 (Silver or black) (no viewfinder)
S3-IS - 6.0 MP - $297
SD700-IS - 6.0 MP - $305

My order of preference would be almost the reverse order of that list.

Sleek, ultra compact cameras:
SD700-IS, if you can still find one. This is a very cool camera.
SD730, has no "image stabilization" or optical viewfinder, but has the newest image processor and very true colors.

Need opinion on Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9K, or recommendations for a Ultra Compact Digital Camera?

best canon ultra compact digital camera on Canon PowerShot SD630 Digital ELPH - Canon Digital Cameras - Photoxels
best canon ultra compact digital camera image

JL

I currently own a Fujifilm Finepix s7000. I think the camera is slow in response compared to other cameras out in the market...and it is too big for me to carry around.

I am not a professional photographer...and I am planning to replace my s7000 with something more compact, that can still take stunning pictures.

I have researched online and saw the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9K. It has 6.0 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, and an Optical Image Stabilizer for shaky-hands like me. It costs below $300 online.

Does anyone have experience on this camera? I am wondering if the photo quality will be a big difference from my s7000.

There are a quite a few Ultra-Compact digital cameras out there within the same price range...such as the Canon SD300/400/500...

Can someone give me suggestions on which to pick? Thanks!

What digital cameras are good with low-light and up-close pictures?

I.M.N. Ali

I am looking for a digital camera that will be used for a lot of at night or low-light shots as well as very close-up shots. Additionally, I would like a camera that is in the "compact" or "ultra-compact" category if possible. What are some suggestions for specific cameras, or, in general what features should I be looking for on cameras' spec sheets that would tell me that the camera was good with low-light or up-close shots?

Answer
If the low light shots are of building or such, you can put any camera on a tripod. If you need to do them hand held (street photography/ concerts/ sports/ etc.), you're out of luck. This is the domain of digital SLR cameras. The digital Nikons are good at this, and the Canons are even better. They can go up to ISO 6400 in a pinch, and they'll deliver beutifull image quality as high as ISO 1600. This is better than film ever was. If you add a light sensitive lens, like a 50mm f/1.4, you can do action photography by candle light. No compact camera comes anywhere close to that. (The autofocus will hunt forever, and when it does lock on, you'll need a shutter time of several seconds.)
If it must be a compact, get one where you can crank the ISO up to 1600 (or higher).
For extreme close ups, get a macro lens (or a compact that has a macro function.)

What cheap digital camera is good for making videos?

hi um i want to make youtube videos with a digital camera. whats the best kind that comes with a USB, a memory card, and can make videos. whats the cheapest kind?

thanx

Answer
These are the best consumer rated cameras that fit your needs:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 Digital Camera--$366.00

The Panasonic DMC-ZS3 has a very good HD movie mode (1280 x 720) and allows you to use the optical zoom and optical image stabilization while recording. It also records in stereo sound and includes an HDMI output for viewing recordings on an HDTV. Aside from its excellent movie recording capabilities, this is a terrific all-around camera that does nearly everything well. Itâs extremely versatile because of its 12x optical zoom lens, which offers a range of 25-300mm, yet is small enough to fit into a pocket.
The DMC-ZS3 offers excellent image quality, fast performance, and a very impressive high-resolution 3.0â LCD display. It also features optical image stabilization, which is very effective for reducing blur and improving low-light shots. This camera is remarkably easy to use and produces great results when set to Intelligent Auto mode; the Face Detection technology also works very well.
Can you help me pick a good digital camera within my budget?

0205

I'm planning on buying a digital camera but i don't know which one is best. I want to know what the highest megabyte capability cameras nowadays have. i've seen some with 8mb resolution but i don't know if there's anything higher.

also, what's a good brand that's wouldn't go above $300?? can i buy something good with that already??

Need opinion on Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9K, or recommendations for a Ultra Compact Digital Camera?

best canon ultra compact digital camera on Canon Powershot S3 IS Digital Camera Review
best canon ultra compact digital camera image
