Which to buy: Canon 60D vs T4i?

Kdclmn

I have money for both, and I know the specifications for both. T4i has a better processor and a lot of improvements (apart from max shutter speed). I of course would want to buy the cheaper of the two, but I am looking for peoples opinions that have actually used the two different cameras.

Thanks.

Answer
The 60D does win the price war.

The T4i hasn't been available for very long, so not much is known about it. This site that compares cameras declines to make an evaluation because the T4i is so new.
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-Rebel-T4i-vs-Canon_EOS_60D

The T4i is getting fairly mixed reviews from actual owners of the camera.

Whereas the 60D has received good reviews consistently.

I'd wait a while before buying the T4i, it's just too soon to tell if it's going to be a winner.

Which camera is better? A canon 550D,50D, or 60D?

Nigel

Right now I'm thinking of going for the 60D.. Among the 3 which is a better in sense of the specs and what makes it better?

Answer
I would consider Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera
*18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor; ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12800)
*Includes 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS UD standard zoom lens
*Improved EOS HD Video mode with manual exposure control; Vari-angle 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor
*5.3 fps continuous shooting; enhanced iFCL 63-zone, Dual-layer metering system

Is the Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR camera compatible with a MacBook Pro?

laceeloray

Answer
Hi laceelorayne_13,

Yes, so long as you have the appropriate software for the image formats you create it will be able to process them on the MacBook Pro. If you buy the camera new it will come with software for processing images on Apple and PC compatible systems. Otherwise you can go to the Canon Product support website and download the appropriate software.

Apple has advanced software available in such products as iPhoto11 but you should be able to do basic processing with the standard functions included with the MacBook and the camera.

Hope that helps Goodluck.

Canon 60D Camera SD card?

Ginger-Mou

Does the canon 60D use an SD card that you can take out and put into a computer? What SD cards would you guys recommend?

Answer
The simple answer is yes. BUT I am the only one on this web site recommending against owning a DSLR like the Canon 60D. Simply because of the nature of your question the DSLR type camera presents too much complexity for the "average" individual to operate. If you are not aware that ALL digital cameras have a removable memory (SD) card, then you should consider a "bridge" type camera at the very most. Bridge cameras have basically all the features of a DSLR like the Canon 60D, but have one (zoom) lens permanently affixed to the camera body that does all: macro, wide angle, portrait, & telephoto. These four things require a different lens if you want to do them properly on a DSLR/60D camera. Bridge cameras can be bought for as little as $150 (Fuji S4500) or as high as $425 (Canon SX50 IS). Now if you are worried about quality, bridge cameras can turn out a very high quality 11x14 print with ease!
Sorry for the negativity, I am just worried that you are "biting off more than you can chew" at this time. For instance, "I am a professional, but I started off with a $30.00 Kodak box camera and moved up to larger qualtiy cameras."

Good Luck!

Canon 60D or 600D Digital Camera?

I Told You

I'm planning on buying either the 60D or the 600D within the next few days. I know 60D is supposed to be a better camera and looking at the specs it is. But looking on dpreview.com and comparing the benchmark image shot by both of them, 600D comes out ahead by a good margin.

So any thoughts from any one who's used these cameras? Should I spend the extra $ and get the 60D, although the image looks to be not as sharp as the 600D? Another factor is that the battery life on the 60D is supposed to be at least double the life on 600D.

Any thoughts/ comments/ suggestions would be appreciated

Answer
One image per camera is not enough to make a valid evaluation, additionally the 60D has a better build quality and feature set. Either will get you into a very good lens system, which is where you should be putting your money. @the chap recommending Nikon, I shoot Nikon, I like their ergonomics, I've been using their system for 30 years but if I were starting over today Nikon would not be my first choice.

Consider the 600D a good starter camera and the 60D a semi-pro camera, I know many news photographers that use the 60D and it's older siblings, everyday. And when I say use I mean use hard and abuse.

Is it possible and/or feasible to achieve focus stacking using a digital camera instead of a DSLR?

I have a digital camera (the Olympus Stylus Tough 3000) that I've been recently using more often. I don't have any immediate plans to buy a new camera. It's far from the highest quality camera, but it does have good macro focus, up to 2 cm.
I'm beginning to get into macro photography and realize that I could achieve a greater depth of field and sharper images using a technique called focus stacking. However, all of the tutorials I've found online mention the use of a DSLR camera for this method. There's no mentioning of this method with a regular digital camera.
As I understand it, you need to take a series of shots at varying distances in order to get a greater range of that sharpness you want to achieve. I'm very new at macro photography, so please bear with me.
Is it possible to do proper focus stacking with a normal digital camera and NOT a DSLR?

Answer
Yes it is, focus stacking software will work with image files from any camera, it's just that a DSLR can have a dedicated macro lens fitted, be easier to control and, because of the larger sensor, image quality will be better.

When taking the images a focus slide is useful, these will move the camera a small amount between shots, but keep it aligned. Something like this;-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Way-Macro-Focus-Rail-Slider-Slide-for-Canon-60D-600D-650D-Nikon-D7000-D90-LF25-/140892713796?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20cddc3344

They can be used with any camera that has a tripod thread and go between the the tripod and the camera.

What lens is best for taking outdoor/indoor portraits with the Canon 60d?

stacytrott

The canon 60d is my first digital SLR camera and I am looking to upgrade my lens. Currently I am using the 18-135mm kit lens and while it does the job I don't think I am getting the most out of my camera while using it. I want a lens that will give me high aperture while being easy to use as I love taking pictures of my children with the out of focus background. Thanks in advance!

Answer
There's nothing really wrong with the 18-135mm but I think the 18-200mm might be better suited to what you're trying to accomplish. I didn't know anyone personally that I could ask when I had questions, so I just read through the reviews on the site. They were excellent. Good luck with your search.

What do you suggest is the best program for viewing digital photos?

canon digital camera 60d image

Tresflip

Hi,
I have a Canon 60D digital camera with 18MP. I am wondering what would be the best program for viewing the pictures that I take and for printing from. I am not talking about editing etc, just for viewing and printing from.

Answer
to get the best from your camera you should shoot in raw mode, then use adobe photoshop to 'process' them, rather than saving in jpg and letting the camera do all the guesswork. it might take a bit longer but the results are much better. if money is an issue get gimp 2, similar software but free!.
you should never shoot in raw and then print though, as these would be unprocessed images and could look worse than jpg versions. to start with shoot in combined raw+jpg, process the raw and compare to the jpg.

What is a really good photography camera that doesn't cost a lot of money?

canon digital camera 60d on canon camera for sale in Digital Cameras
canon digital camera 60d image
Q. I have a nikon coolpix digital camera, and another digital camera from a couple years back, but i'm getting more and more interested in taking better quality pictures. I don't have a lot of money to spend on one, so the cheaper, the better. but i still want a good resolution quality and everything else good too. thanks in advance for any help.

Answer
You can find many film cameras for very cheap. Resolution will depend on the film you select and choice of lenses.
And you can have whole setups (camera+lenses) from 50-100 US to no more than 500 US. They will beat any digital setup for the price.
Look into:

- Rangefinders (I still use, from time to time my Canon AE-1P but even the EOS 1V could be found on eBay for ~400 US. The 1V is one of the best 35mm cameras ever made!)
- Medium Format (maybe an old Mamiya?)
- Large Format (try a starter one, maybe an old Crown Graphic or a Wista...)

Options, there are many. If you meant digital, then there is nothing best/cheap. It is sort of linearly dependent. The better they are, the more they cost.

I prefer Canon. It is a personal preference, no need to start the endless battle of which one is better.

-Point and Shoot - G12
-Entry level - 60D or even a Rebel

Suggesting anything above that is pointless because you want cheap.

DPreview lets you compare cameras side by side. It is a very nice tool for people looking to buy a camera

Are SLR and/or DSLR digital cameras the only ones with aperture and shutter priority modes?

Brad

I am taking a digital photography class and the syllabus says I need a digital camera with aperture and shutter priority modes. Are SLR and/or DSLR cameras the only ones that have them. Will I have to spend a lot of money in order to get a camera with these modes? Thanks for the help!

Answer
Being a student who ran into this problem a few years ago, I found that I outgrew my advanced point and shoot very quickly. I had a G10 (Canon) and found that I enjoyed it so much that I became seriously involved in photography, and I shot all the time. I changed my major to video production and photojournalism. So yes this is just a personal experience of mine, but in my advice, I would have gone back and got a DSLR. I think being a student it would be wise to go with an entry level Canon like the t3i or the 60D because Canons lens line up is spectacular, (if you have access to an equipment room in this new class). If you need to shoot a video, Canons advancement in HD DSLR is really handy to learn because it is exploding in the video world. Thats somewhat an opinion however. But try stuff out, see what you like, and enjoy your class.
