Driver Software for Canon Digital Rebel XT?

Q. I recently moved from home, and brought my Rebel XT with me. I am using a Dell Studio laptop running Windows Vista 64 bit. This computer DOES NOT have a disk drive.

Because of the missing disk drive, I can not install the driver software that came with my camera, and I can not download the version Canon gives on the website because it is not compatible with Vista 64 bit.

Is there any way to download a version of driver software compatible with my OS and my camera? Or do I need to buy a card reader and/or a portable disk drive? I can't find anything on the web.

Thanks!

Answer
Try connecting the camera to the laptop using the USB cable. It should be detected by Windows Explorer (My Coomputer) automatically as a Removable Storage Device (or something to the tune of that). From there, you could copy, delete, or move files around to and from your camera. If you would want to edit them, use your favorite graphics program like Photoshop, Corel or Paintbrush. Irfanview is a free downloadable graphics program that is simple to use.

If the camera is not detected by Windows, buy a cheap card reader, insert the camera's memory card there and connect then to the laptop. Again, it should be detected by Windows automatically.

Help with Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT software?
I have lost all the Cd's that came with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, I need to download the software to my new computer, in order to get the photos.
What can I do?
Thanks!!

Answer
I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT camera, also. The software that comes with the camera is not 'driver' software.

When you connect your camera via USB to your PC, and turn it on, the camera card is treated just like any other 'drive' on your PC. By that, I mean you can find it in Windows Explorer, double click it and copy, view, delete, or otherwise manipulate the photos just as if they were on your C drive.

The software that comes with the camera is, to me, just a proprietary 'photoshop-like' software.

Canon - IXUS 60 Digital Camera?

LouLou123

I have lost the User guide for my camera (Cannon Digital IXUS 60) - I tried looking on the cannon site for one to download - does anyone have one?

Thanks

Answer
Here in the USA, it's known as the SD600. Same exact camera; different name. Below is a link to Canon USA's "drivers/downloads" page for that camera, where there is a link to download the manual in PDF form for free.

I have a PowerShot A40 Canon digital camera, and I need a driver for Windows 7.?

Golden Are

I got the camera used, so I have no instalation CD. And Its my only digital camera, and I need to get the driver...

Answer
Canon does not make Windows 7 drivers for the A40. Neither does Microsoft. It is too old, circa 2002, and Canon (like everyone else) provide poor support for equipment more than 3 or 4 years old.

I recommend you follow fhotoace's suggestion and use a card reader. Its has other advantages over directly downloading from the camera, including greater speed, and less chance of loosing data. Be sure any reader you buy works with Compact Flash Type 1, its the type of media your camera uses. Most multi-card readers will do so.

How do you change the screen resolution of your computer?

I recently bought a Canon digital camera and I can't install the software that comes along with it. The required Display to install the CD is 1024x768 pixels but my PC only has 800x600 pixels. I already tried going the Control Panel-Display-Settings but the tab where I will adjust the screen resolution won't move. Its just stuck at 800x600 pixels. Help please!

Answer
Maybe you dont have your graphics driver installed. First install it from the motherboard/graphics driver CD and then try adjusting the resolution

How do I upload pictures from my Canon Digital Rebel camera?

Hi,

I have an OLD model of the Canon Digital Rebel and need to upload the photos to my laptop.
I don't have any of the discs that would have come with the camera.

Not sure if it matters, but I am currently using XP on my computer.
Help!
Thanks!

Answer
The camera should have come with a USB cable. When you plug in the camera and turn it on, XP should search for drivers. The CDs are unnecessary because IF you require the drivers you can download them directly from Canon's website. After the camera is recognized and drivers installed, simply right click on Start in Windows, navigate to My Computer > Canon Camera (or whatever they name your memory card in explorer) and open that folder. Then select the images on the card and drag them to any folder on your C: drive. Once you are SURE SURE SURE the images are in fact on the computer's hard drive, reselect the images on the card and delete them so it's clean for the next shoot.
There are SEVERAL ways to get images off the computer, it's really a matter of preference. You can also buy a flash card reader for $30 and plug THAT into a USB slot on the computer instead.

How to download from Canon s45 with original filename without cardreader?

Luey

Whenever I connect my Canon s45 digital camera to either of my Windows XP computers, the scanners and cameras dialog box comes up and then asks me to give a name to the photos before downloading them. This happens for either normal or PTP mode, either with their WIA driver installed or not. How do I get the files to download with their original names. I hate pulling the CF card and using a card reader because I just know I'm going to bend one of the pins in the camera reinserting it someday. This camera is not recognized as a USB Mass Storage Device and doesn't show up as a removable drive.
There is no download for the entire ZoomBrowser or I would have tried it myself. There is only an updater download. I bought the camera used without software thinking it would be like my Olympus and Panasonic cameras that are USB MSDs. I was wrong. Canon just has to do things differently.

Answer
Use the Canon ZoomBrowser software instead of the XP camera wizard - you can download it here at the Canon Support Website:

How can I install my camera on my new computer without the disk?

I have a canon powershot S200 digital elph camera that my gma gave to me. I don't have the disk to install it on my new computer so is there any way I can install it without it? My computer is a new HP Pavillion DV4 running Windows 7.

Answer
Should not be a problem. Most digital cameras don't need a driver. Just plug it in and if the camera/scanner wizard don't come up then turn on the camera. That'll do it.
