digital camera?

I want to buy new digital camera ,because i had 3 but no luck this time i need to be more careful my bughet is about 300 to 400 hunderd and i need something not big so i can carry all the time , and very nice picutres so i can use these picutres in my website too. please help me with that and let me know what can i buy best for my buget, thanks

If youâre looking for a point & shoot, user friendly digital camera, I have to say, I like Canon. Nothing against other the other brands. I prefer Canon based on personal experience and their reputation.

Consider the Canon PowerShot models, the A630 or the A640. These compact models have helpful pre-set shooting modes that you choose for the particular picture situation you are about to shoot. Like: auto(matic), portrait, nighttime, landscape, indoor, snow, beach, kids & pets (subjects that wonât keep still), and moreâ¦ You can also be creative with these models, where you can choose special FX settings as you are shooting a pictures and have the option to program/set your own manual setting, so check the specifications. You should bear in mind, with physical size of the camera, (subcompact/slim/flat vs. compact), you compromise features that are available on the compact/slightly larger models.

I own the Canon PowerShot A620. My favorite feature of this model is the vari-angle (flip and twist) display/LCD screen. It protects the screen when not in use, and helpful for odd angle shots. Especially if you want to take a picture of yourself, or yourself with others. Picture taking is instant! I have found lag time is not an issue, with this camera, compared to my first digital camera. My choice for a camera that a 14 year old would think was suitably cool would be a Canon Powershot SD600, if you can find it, or its replacement, the SD1000. I'm sure others will recommend this camera.

If you want to spend a little less money, some of our best answerers always recommends the Fujifilm FinePix F20 camera as the best-for-less choice. I have to say that I like the sample images at Steve's site (below). If Morey000 or SpaceCowboy show up after me and make this recommendation, choose them as the best answer, because I'm just passing along their suggestion. I have no personal experience with this camera. I see it at B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) for $150; $190 with a 1 GB Sandisk memory card.

My brother has the A540 and my mother-in-law has the A530 - on my recommendation - and neither one has stopped speaking to me yet. Based on this and experience with other Canon Powershot cameras, I am now recommending the A550 as a nice and relatively inexpensive camera.

Canon just introduced the A550, which has more pixels, but offers less user control. I'd be happy with the A540, but the A550 is probably also worth considering, especially since the A540 has been discontinued. I've seen it for $140 in some stores like WalMart and Target.

The A550 costs $160 at B&H and, of course, you'll need a memory card.

I'm basically wanting one of these for making videos for YouTube and for everyday use. I am wanting it to be able take up to 10 minute videos or more so I can put them on YouTube. I recommend the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. This camera can take a limit of one hour or 4GBs worth of video. These videos can be replayed on a computer and uploaded to YouTube. The SD1200 has some big changes over its predecessor SD1100, and is the smallest, best designed Elph I've used thus far.

I've owned many models of Elph, this is my 6th or 7th, so my review is aimed especially at other serial Canon owners. I mostly compare the SD1200 to the SD1100.

* The big changes: Digic4 and a larger CCD sensor. The slight increase in CCD size (1/2.3" vs 1/2.5") should make for "cleaner" photos. And Digic4 promises faster/cleaner shots also.

* You get 10MP vs 8MP on the SD1100, and "medium" (M1) size is now 6MP. JPG quality is down to 2 setting: Fine or Normal.

* SD1200 is only slightly smaller than the SD1100, but feels notably smaller by virtue of curved edges and the LCD being flush with the body (no bump-out).

* The 1200 now feels as small as this design can shrink. Good news: my average-sized male hands can still comfortably hold it, barely not covering lens, flash, or resting on the LCD. But the round power-button is now almost too small to press if you had big fingers and no fingernails.

* 1200's new battery is a higher capacity 1000mAh (vs ~760mAh for SD1100). There's also a new charger (not compatible with the old batteries), a glossy white-colored model to blend into your wall.

* The buttons and menus are streamlined. There's now a button for review mode, pressing it a 2nd time takes you back to the previous state. Handy. The slider has dedicated AUTO and Manual settings, no longer need to use menus for that switch.

* Continuous mode and ISO now are in the Function Menu (on the SD1100, they had dedicated buttons).

* A SD card is no longer included. This makes sense to me, a 32MB card is barely useful, and with the downward pressure on electronics prices, I can't imagine Canon wanting to bundle a more expensive/bigger card. Some people will find this lack annoying.

* The A/V output is gone, and the USB connector now serves both purposes (both kinds of included cables now have a USB-end)

* A new version of Canon software is required for this model, Zoombrowser 6.3. Canon typically requires a new release for each new family/season of cameras. Unfortunately, the CameraWindow software has been intentionally dumbed-down in the 6.x software and no longer offers the options to delete your photos (have to go through the OS), nor to chose custom naming for the downloads. I say intentionally, since I asked Canon customer-support about it and they stated the changes were not bugs. The last Canon software to still have that functionality was 5.x, corresponding to the SD1000 and other cameras released that season.

* In casual indoor tests, the 1200 seemed more ready to go to ISO400 (often too "noisy" to be useful) when the SD1100 would have chosen ISO200.

* The SD1200 and SD1100 have identical specs on their optics. However, I noticed a more pronounced barrel-distortion on the 1200 at extreme wide-angle. (still only noticable in close-up shots of straight-edged items at wide-angle)

* In a casual speed test, the SD1200 took/stored photos notably faster the SD1100 (same scene, continuous-mode, same brand SD card), despite the 1200's image size being larger.

* Canon's paper manuals have been shrinking steadily. With this model, the only manual included is a quick-start guide, the rest is on CD-ROM.

* The packaging is even more efficient than before, about half the size of the SD1100's box.

* Sadly, there is no HD video mode, although all of the other Elphs released this spring had HD. SD1200 owners are stuck with 640x480 video.

Canon has several sub-series within the compact Elph line, varying mostly by asthetics and optics. The SD1200 is successor to the series that included the SD1100, SD1000, and SD600. These all favor a classic, slim design. If you're unfamiliar with Canon's Powershot cameras, there's lots of good material out there on camera sites such as dpreview.

In general, the small sensors and optics in all ultra-compact digital cameras lead to some optical quirks (such as barrelling), chromatic aberrations, over/under-exposure in bright sunlight/shade, and underpowered flashes. That's intrinsic to the size of camera, and vendors try to correct these effects in their on-board processing. My opinion is that Canon does a good job of correcting for these issues and the Elphs including the SD1200 take very good photos for their size.

Before narrowing down your choice of a particular make, model, and price; here are a few things to look for when looking for a compact, point & shoot digital camera that meets your requirements:

1). Requires AA batteries or not? There are many cameras that all you do is recharge, (like a cellphone), the camera. I like cameras that use AA batteries. You can buy rechargeable AA batteries for your main source of power, and buy non-recharge ones in a pinch anywhere, should you find your camera without power, instead of being without a camera to use while it's hooked up being recharged. (What happens if you need to replace the lithium ion battery? Might be costly to replace and not convenient to find). It's true that digicameras use up non-recharge batteries quickly. But you can buy rechargeable ones and they last a long time. It should be a must to buy rechargeable batteries (with itâs charger). There are some rechargeable AA (stick with the name brands), that now recharges in an hour, or even less! (Remember to figure in the cost to buy rechargeable AA battery and battery recharger).

2). Media Memory Format? SD (Secure Data either MMC [media memory card] or HC [High Capacity]) I know for sure this 'memory card' is used by Canon, Kodak digicams; and I'm sure they're other brands. Then there are other brands who require xD and CF (Compact Flash) and Sony uses exclusively their memory 'sticks' (pro Duo and other different configurations). The pros for having a camera that uses SD card, is that they are also used in other electronic devices and are the most affordable media memory storage.

3). An optical viewfinder is very useful for those times when it's difficult to see your subject on your screen, i.e. a distant face in a crowd; too sunny to see subjects in the LCD screen; fast action shots. It can help conserve power of your camera by periodically turning off the LCD screen and using the optical viewfinder. This feature seems to be important to some, (me included), but to others, not necessary. (This is where IS [Image Stabilization] comes in. Helpful if your camera does not have an optical vierfinder.)

4). Don't get sucked in by the more MP (megapixels [10 and above]), the camera has, the better. It is not always the case. 5-6 mp is sufficient for most.

5). Optical zoom of at least 3-4x. Higher optical zoom, a bonus. Don't be fooled by a high digital zoom number. Opitical is what you're looking for.

6). IS (image stabilization) and face detection? This is a personal choice for what an individual wants, and on some models, it's a standard feature.

7). Camera size: Compact or subcompact? You might compromise in some functions and options when you go with a small and sleek camera. Camera size will dictate what functions and features will go into the camera. This too, is a personal choice for an individual.

Don't forget to consider in your budget: Rechargeable batteries and extra memory cards/sticks. Good to have if your camera also takes video. Nothing more frustrating than running out for memory space on your card/stick.

In no particular order, here are some of the best and popular brands: stick with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Fuji, Kodak, Pentax. They have models that can fit any budget, even under $150.00, and even lower when on sale.

These are the basics when researching and shopping for a digicam. Don't worry about other features, they all have pre-set settings for a given photo situation, and some fun ones too. Most, if not all, also take video. (For good quality shooting video, set at 640x480 at 30fps.)

If you do your research on cameras, then go to your local electronic/camera merchants like Best Buy, RadioShack, Circuit City, Ritz, etc...or even Target, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Costco, Sam's Club, or consider your office supply stores that have a camera dept., OfficeMax, Staples, Office Depot. Or check on-line. A good place is B&H.

I LOVE my Canon PowerShot A620. It's a 7.1 mp camera which takes awesome still shots, and just as awesome video. Great for home and everyday use. Easy to take on vacations and you can take some really artistic/creative photos too. A great all-around camera. My 35mm cameras are Canon too, and I still love and use it. .

I had a Sony, and I gave that to my daughter, and purchased the Canon PowerShot A610 for my teenage son. The Canon A610 is exactly like my A620, but is a 5 mp digital camera. They both take GREAT pictures, but my favorite thing about the camera, is the vari-angle LCD screen. You can even hook it up to your tv and see your pictures/video on whatever size screen you have. It's pretty neat on the big screens! (The necessary cords come with it). It is very easy to use, and a camera you can grow with. http://www.usa.canon.com

Our A610/A620 has a setting, call "kids&pets". Typically you use these on the subjects that usually has a hard time keeping still. But I also use this setting when taking pictures of my soccer team during game play. I've also taken pictures of my kids, nieces and nephews jumping in the air, a la cheerleader jumps, with great results. Lag time is very, very, very minimal. (e.g. delay from pressing button to actual camera capturing the shot). This is just one of the many settings the camera has to offer and you can also manually set and program your own settings.

For ease of point and shoot, just choose the setting in which you're taking pictures of, (i.e. indoor, outdoor, nighttime, portrait, fireworks, snow, beach, and 'auto' [automatic]), and it'll adjust accordingly the proper exposure/settings. And it even has an 'underwater' mode to use, but that's if you purchase the special housing for the camera. (I don't have the housing. I'll wait to save up or find it for very inexpensive). If you get more experience or for the experienced, you can manually choose exposure and settings like the old 35 mm.

I'm a bargain hunter. I purchased both NEW Canon this late spring 2006 on line. My son's was under $200 and mine was $204. Just Google (or Froogle) or Yahoo! Search any Canon model, and then see which merchant has the best price with those low price websites and order on-line. The price is waaaay better than going physically to the stores. If you need it right away, just upgrade the shipping. It's still cheaper than buying at the stores. No matter what model camera you're searching for, better prices are on-line.

I don't know if you'll find this model (A610) at the stores. They have newer models, the A630 (8mp) and the A640 (10mp), they boast more mega-pixels and ISO settings. But 5mp, more than suffices for most users. What I did was physically touched and feel the camera at the store, then go on-line to purchase. But if you prefer to purchase at the stores, some good places are Best Buy, Wal Mart and Target. Suprisingly enough, they have good selection at Wal-Mart and Target.

its not just the equipment that makes great pictures... you have to have the eye for photography. Offer to assist local photographers to get experience. Also read up in photo books about exposure, speeds, composition, balance etc... then offer your services to the market you want to target. you need to also invest in a pro camera as you become more professional (what you have for now is fine to learn on)

will the prices of digital cameras ever go down?i mean i went to walmart and target today and they where like 100 dollars-400 dollars.i need a reasonable price,but a good one.i dont have that much money.can someone tell me where i can get a good one for a resonable price?

They surely are going down, as we speak. Not at lightning speed, but even though I already have a digital camera, (my 3rd), that does everything I want and room to grow into my camera, I still can't help but check out other models and prices of the cameras. I am amazed how the models with more megapixels and features, cost the same as the first digital camera I purchased in Nov. '05 with less than 5 mp and less features. As I check out the sales papers this morning, I'm amazed how much SD/MMC (memory card) are becoming more affordable! Saw 1G for $19.99 and a 2G for $29.99! No rebates to send in either!

Also saw a bank ad giving away Canon's PowerShot A460, (which is an awesome camera), if you open a business checking/saving account. Key Bank I believe it was...

But back to your question. My first digital, (Sony), I purchased it at my local department store. My second and my most current, (Canons), I purchase online. Here is where I go to shop on-line for the best price for digital cameras. Just type in your camera model in the âsearch keywordâ: http://lowpricedigital.com/category.asp?... I saved over a hundred dollars, because the merchant was selling at a much better price than my local store, and including not having to pay for sales tax, (since I live out of state from the on line merchant I purchased from), and no S&H because some offer free S&H.

Refurbished are usually repaired and reconditioned from the manufacturer. These are usually merchandise that have been returned to the manufacturer, after a customer may have purchase and then returned within a short and certain period of time, or complains of some type of problem with the item. Then they are checked and reconditioned/repaired to "new" status, but must be identified as "refurbished". Usually the warranty on refurbished items are for a longer period of time than the new item. I purchased a 'refurb' and have had no problems at all.

But if you prefer to drive and purchase locally, the two stores you mentioned, Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA, and check out the camera stores. They are all pretty competitive. Even consider Office Max, Office Depot and Cost Co/Sam's Club...any store with a camera department. You may be pleasantly surprised with their prices.

Is There Such thing as a rechargable Digital Camera?

My Digital Camera Eats Batteries like CRAZY!
And Batteries are kinda expensive.
Like Duracel ones last only about 2 hours!
So I was wondering if there such thing as a rechargable camera that doesn't need batteries to operate? Like how you have to recharge your phone or ds & If So, How much are they?

Yup! These cameras do exist and they are great! I would go online and look you can find them anywhere from Walmart to Staples to Best Buy to Target etc etc etc.

Personally, mine is a Canon and I got it from best buy for around $200, but I have seen them starting around $120 or so.

I love digital cameras because of the reason you said - getting batteries over and over again is so tedious and expensive. Good luck on your search!

Any tips-simple ones- about DC,I have read loads of reviews for great digital cameras,Cannon is the best for sure..but as a beginner I need to have a camera easy-to-use and in reasonable price and so far I am not ready to get into a store saying I need a camera that has blah bla blah..So just few quick tips..I apperciate it so much.

Look for a camera with a 1) minimum 5 megapixels (mp), this is very good for most users. 2) 4x optical zoom is good, don't worry too much about digital zoom. 3) Best to stick with regular (or rechargeable) AA batteries. Lithium battery are good, but not easy to find if you're on vacation and need batteries at a convienence store or can recharge quickly. 4) I see that many digital cameras are doing away with the optical viewfinder (the old fashioned way of looking through the viewfinder to take a picture), and strickly having just the LCD screen to compose a shot to take. I, personally still like the optical viewfinder to really focus on a particular subject, or use on a really sunny day where it's hard to see your subject(s) on the screen, or just to save battery power on my camera. These are just a few things to consider for your first camera. Here's what I have...

They both take GREAT pictures, but my favorite thing about the camera, is the vari-angle LCD screen. You can even hook it up to your tv and see your pictures/video on whatever size screen you have. Our A610/A620 has a setting, call "kids&pets". Typically you use these on the subjects that usually has a hard time keeping still. But I also use this setting when taking pictures of my soccer team during game play. I've also taken pictures of my kids, nieces and nephews jumping in the air, a la cheerleader jumps, with great results. Lag time is very, very, very minimal. (e.g. delay from pressing button to actual camera capturing the shot). This is just one of the many settings the camera has to offer and you can also manually set and program your own settings.

For ease of point and shoot, just choose the setting in which you're taking pictures of, (i.e. indoor, outdoor, nighttime, portrait, fireworks, snow, beach, and 'auto' [automatic]), and it'll adjust accordingly the proper exposure/settings. And it even has an 'underwater' mode to use, but that's if you purchase the special housing for the camera. (I don't have the housing. I'll wait to save up or find it for very inexpensive). If you get more experience or for the experienced, you can manually choose exposure and settings like the old 35 mm.

I'm a bargain hunter. I purchased both NEW Canon this late spring 2006 on line. My son's was under $200 and mine was $204. Just Google (or Froogle) or Yahoo! Search any Canon model, and then see which merchant has the best price with those low price websites and order on-line. The price is waaaay better than going physically to the stores. If you need it right away, just upgrade the shipping. It's still cheaper than buying at the stores. No matter what model camera you're searching for, better prices are on-line.

I don't know if you'll find this model (A610) at the stores. They have newer models, the A630 (8mp) and the A640 (10mp), they boast more mega-pixels and ISO settings. But 5mp, more than suffices for most users. What I did was physically touched and feel the camera at the store, then go on-line to purchase. But if you prefer to purchase at the stores, some good places are Best Buy, Wal Mart and Target. Suprisingly enough, they have good selection at Wal-Mart and Target.
