Quick question about Canon software?

Bekah

I am trying to get rid of unused programs on my computer...I noticed that I have a ton of Canon software programs on the computer (such as Canon Zoombrowser, Canon image gateway, Canon MOV encoder/decoder, etc.) I have no idea what any of these programs are, since I just have a simple Canon digital camera, and basically just use it to take pictures with friends or whatever (no photography). I just upload the images straight to my computer and then save them in a file or print them off. Would it be a bad idea to delete all the Canon programs? Like, would I still be able to upload pictures and save them without a problem?

Answer
You can delete all of the Canon software. As a rule, I recommend never installing any software that comes with a camera, printer, mouse, monitor, etc., as built in system utilities or 3rd party software is usually better.

In your case, I recommend you use Picasa by Google to save files to your computer and manage them. Picasa does a good job of organizing your photos in a way that lets you still access them by Windows Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).

I am trying to import photos into my Canon DC620 digital camera.?

katoved

I have been told that unless the photos were taken with the camera, you wont be able to import foreign photos. I have a card reader and writer. However, I am unable to import video or images that are foreign back into the camera. Anyone know how to circumvent this? Thanks!

Answer
I have the canon SD630 and it came with zoombrowser EX there is a button that says export that you can use to transfer back to the camera.
if that doesnt work
go to my computer find the camera while on or memory card , get the file drag and plop into the window

Please help: What digital camera do you like best?

Singer4Lif

I like both of these cameras: http://www.target.com/Canon-PowerShot-10-0MP-Digital-Camera/dp/B001SER49M/sr=1-1/qid=1249604141/ref=sr_1_1/189-2481448-2751401?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&field-browse=1038598&rh=k%3Acanon%20powershot%20sd1200&page=1 and: http://www.target.com/Fujifilm-10-0MP-Digital-Camera-Z30fd/dp/B001QEPR5M/sr=1-3/qid=1249604213/ref=sr_1_3/189-2481448-2751401?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k%3Afujifilm%20z30&page=1

I'm basically wanting one of these for making videos for YouTube and for everyday use. I am wanting it to be able take up to 10 minute videos or more so I can put them on YouTube. Do you know how long the video time range is on either one of these cameras? Do you like the quality of the pictures and videos on these cameras? If you have either of these cameras please tell me why you like it and what you don't like about it. Thanks!!

Answer
I recommend the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. This camera can take a limit of one hour or 4GBs worth of video. These videos can be replayed on a computer and uploaded to YouTube. You can find this camera on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Canon-SD1200IS-Stabilized-Dark-Gray/dp/tech-data/B001SER492/ref=de_a_smtd.

The SD1200 has some big changes over its predecessor SD1100, and is the smallest, best designed Elph I've used thus far.

I've owned many models of Elph, this is my 6th or 7th, so my review is aimed especially at other serial Canon owners. I mostly compare the SD1200 to the SD1100.

* The big changes: Digic4 and a larger CCD sensor. The slight increase in CCD size (1/2.3" vs 1/2.5") should make for "cleaner" photos. And Digic4 promises faster/cleaner shots also.

* You get 10MP vs 8MP on the SD1100, and "medium" (M1) size is now 6MP. JPG quality is down to 2 setting: Fine or Normal.

* SD1200 is only slightly smaller than the SD1100, but feels notably smaller by virtue of curved edges and the LCD being flush with the body (no bump-out).

* The 1200 now feels as small as this design can shrink. Good news: my average-sized male hands can still comfortably hold it, barely not covering lens, flash, or resting on the LCD. But the round power-button is now almost too small to press if you had big fingers and no fingernails.

* 1200's new battery is a higher capacity 1000mAh (vs ~760mAh for SD1100). There's also a new charger (not compatible with the old batteries), a glossy white-colored model to blend into your wall.

* The buttons and menus are streamlined. There's now a button for review mode, pressing it a 2nd time takes you back to the previous state. Handy. The slider has dedicated AUTO and Manual settings, no longer need to use menus for that switch.

* Continuous mode and ISO now are in the Function Menu (on the SD1100, they had dedicated buttons).

* A SD card is no longer included. This makes sense to me, a 32MB card is barely useful, and with the downward pressure on electronics prices, I can't imagine Canon wanting to bundle a more expensive/bigger card. Some people will find this lack annoying.

* The A/V output is gone, and the USB connector now serves both purposes (both kinds of included cables now have a USB-end)

* A new version of Canon software is required for this model, Zoombrowser 6.3. Canon typically requires a new release for each new family/season of cameras. Unfortunately, the CameraWindow software has been intentionally dumbed-down in the 6.x software and no longer offers the options to delete your photos (have to go through the OS), nor to chose custom naming for the downloads. I say intentionally, since I asked Canon customer-support about it and they stated the changes were not bugs. The last Canon software to still have that functionality was 5.x, corresponding to the SD1000 and other cameras released that season.

* In casual indoor tests, the 1200 seemed more ready to go to ISO400 (often too "noisy" to be useful) when the SD1100 would have chosen ISO200.

* The SD1200 and SD1100 have identical specs on their optics. However, I noticed a more pronounced barrel-distortion on the 1200 at extreme wide-angle. (still only noticable in close-up shots of straight-edged items at wide-angle)

* In a casual speed test, the SD1200 took/stored photos notably faster the SD1100 (same scene, continuous-mode, same brand SD card), despite the 1200's image size being larger.

* Canon's paper manuals have been shrinking steadily. With this model, the only manual included is a quick-start guide, the rest is on CD-ROM.

* The packaging is even more efficient than before, about half the size of the SD1100's box.

* Sadly, there is no HD video mode, although all of the other Elphs released this spring had HD. SD1200 owners are stuck with 640x480 video.

Canon has several sub-series within the compact Elph line, varying mostly by asthetics and optics. The SD1200 is successor to the series that included the SD1100, SD1000, and SD600. These all favor a classic, slim design. If you're unfamiliar with Canon's Powershot cameras, there's lots of good material out there on camera sites such as dpreview.

In general, the small sensors and optics in all ultra-compact digital cameras lead to some optical quirks (such as barrelling), chromatic aberrations, over/under-exposure in bright sunlight/shade, and underpowered flashes. That's intrinsic to the size of camera, and vendors try to correct these effects in their on-board processing. My opinion is that Canon does a good job of correcting for these issues and the Elphs including the SD1200 take very good photos for their size.

Canon SD400, ZoomBrowser ?

girl_wonde

I had to re-install my windows and unfortunately I did not back up the software that came with my cannon SD400 digital camera , only to find out that I don't have the installation CD for it anymore. Also I found from canon website that the software is not available for download. I have already spent my money on buying this camera when it came out first for $$$$. Don't want a pay for the disc again Now I lost the software...
Please help..!
Thanks

Answer
Try again. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=323&modelid=11158 Make sure to pick your OS in the fold down menu and click the proper download.
Try downloading Zoom Browser on it's own.
I was able to find a download for Vista and XP.

If all else fails, try Picasa. Very easy photo manager from Google.

Canon EOS Utilities Question?

Hammer

I have the Canon Powershot A560 Digital camera, and all of a sudden I am getting THIS on EOS Utilities when I plug it into my computer:
http://i35.tinypic.com/174ltk.jpg
Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can fix this because I have tried almost everything..
Yes I have, still having the same problem
V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V (Bellow)

Answer
Have you tried Uninstalling Canon CameraWindow? CameraWindow is mainly needed for Windows 98. Most recent Operating Systems will support the camera without the need for any special drivers that CameraWindow provides. EOS Utility and ZoomBrowser should still work without it installed.

Can anyone give step by step instruction to download pictures from camera to computer?

vasusesha

Answer
How to download pictures from Digital Camera
Contents:

Downloading pictures from Camera
Cropping a picture
Attaching a picture to Email
Mom and Dadâs Canon (S200)

Downloading
1. First, start with the camera power off. Connect it to the computer via the USB cable.

2. Double Click on the "Canon ZoomBrowser" icon

3. Turn Camera On. Make sure itâs in download mode (triangle)

4. You will see a window, Here it is asking you what software you want to send the pictures from the camera to.
The window title is âIXY ⦠eventâ
Click on âCanon ZoomBrowser EXâ

5. Next, you will see a Window entitled âZoom Browser Automationâ
Here, you pick what you want ZoomBrowser to do with the pictures from the camera. The current setup is to automatically download the pictures. So, just click âStartâ

6. Zoombrowser EX is opened, and the pictures are downloaded.
All pictures are downloaded in a new folder with todayâs date

At this point you can safely erase the pictures from the camera, because they are now stored on your computer.

7. Turn the camera off at this point to save battery.

8. In ZoomBrowser EX, you can rename the folder it created to put the pictures in, by right-clicking on the folder name, and left-click âRename Folder.â Then type the new name for the folder over the old name.

To Crop a picture:
1. First, in ZoomBrowser EX, single-click on the picture to select it. A blue box will be around the picture.

2. You can crop the picture if you like. Double-click the picture or click the âView Imageâ button. Click a corner, then drag to another corner, and let the mouse go. Then click the âCropâ button.

3. Click the âSave Asâ round button beneath the picture. For âfilename,â Enter a different name from the original picture, if you want to save the original one. Then hit Enter, or click the âSaveâ button.

To attach a picture to email:
While the picture is selected in Zoombrowser EX, on the âInternetâ menu, click "Send Image(s) by E-mail."

Resizing a picture: If an image file is very large, it may take a long time for someone with dialup access to the Internet to receive the file.

If you don't want to resize the picture, click "Send image(s) without compression, Then click "Next," and skip to "Sending picture in email" below.
To resize the picture (change the resolution) to make it a smaller file:
a. In the next window, entitled âSelect Compression,â click on âResize and compress images into JPEG format.â Then click "Next"
b. In the next window, entitled âSelect Image Quality,â type a number for âResize Image Dimensions.â Pick a number less than 100% to make the picture smaller. For example, try 50%. Click the âCompressâ button. It will show how big the file is. For example, at 50% compression, a file that was original 457K was compressed to 107K. This is a reasonable size to send via email. The program recommends that files <300K are more convenient to send by email. (Your mileage may vary.) Play around with different % compressions if you like. Hit the âCompressâ button after each try. When you are happy with the size of the new file it will make, click the âNextâ button.

Sending picture in Email (after resizing, or if you skipped the resizing step above):

The next window is entitled "Send Email". If you want to see how the picture will look at this compression, click the "Preview" button.

Close the "Email Image Viewer Window" when you are finished previewing the picture. If you donât like it (perhaps you compressed it too much and itâs hard to see), back up (Hit the "Back" button) and try again.
When you are happy with how the picture looks,
Click the "Start e-mail program" radio button.
Then click the "Finish" button here in the "Send Email" window.

Your email program starts (yours is Eudora) and the picture is attached. Enter the address to send it to, a Subject line, and any other text you like. Hit the SEND button when you are finished.

I got a new canon a540 digital camera..ive downloaded all the software on the pc...now wen i connect the pc to the camera it does detect it but wen i open the software to put my pics on the comp it says there no camera connected....what shalll i do?
Windows says that the cam has installed but when i go to Camera and Scanner Wizard it says it doesnt detect any cams...
Also wen i was installing the cam it said that the software hasnt passed the windows logo test

Answer
When you say your PC detects your camera, what exactly is it doing? Is it popping up the dialogue box that asks what you want Windows to do? If so, just select ZoomBrowser (your Canon software) and click on OK. You should see an image transfer dialogue box open and start counting images as it downloads.

Assuming you're using Windows XP, this will assign your camera directly to your software so you should not have to open it yourself, the PC will do it automatically.

If this isn't your problem, then I would de-install the software, read the instruction booklet very carefully and then install the software as per the booklet.

If you have an older PC and you are not using Windows XP, you might want to upgrade. Your life will be a lot easier if you keep your O/S current.

Something else to consider is a memory card reader. These are cheap - under $50 - and will download your pics a lot faster and with less fuss than connecting your camera all the time. Your software will think it is the camera. You will have the added benefit of being able to easily reformat your memory card, as opposed to trying to do it through the camera's software. Canon engineers are very smart, but they did a poor job when it came to card management.

Zoombrowser-How do I save a zoomed version of a photo?

I have a photo on Zoombrowser (the Canon digital camera software) on which I want to zoom in on a particular part (the people) and save. But when I try to do that, and select "Save As", the photo goes back to the way it was (unzoomed). Can you modify the photo like this in Zoombrowser?

Answer
You cannot do that. When you do a zoomed in view, that is all it is, it is not actually recreating the photo into a larger size. As said in the other answer, to do what you want requires cropping of the photo and resizing. I have used Zoombrowser in the past and I can't remember if it is capable of that or not. It is actually a very limited program designed to do just the most basic editing functions.

A program such as Photoshop is what you need, or you can download GIMP for free:

I have a Digital Canon Rebel camera and i have downloaded the ZoomBrowser EX, Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility and the Picture Style Editor. Yet every time i plug it in to my computer.. there are these two instant clicks and nothing pops up onto my computer and it doesn't seem to read that it is plugged in. I have a smaller digital camera that works fine with uploading but this one is having problems.. you know whats wrong and what I should do?

Answer
if you just go to my computer your camera should show up there automatically. if it doesn't, make sure that the camera is on. depending on which rebel you have, maybe your small point and shoot uses the same media? in that case put it in the small camera and open the camera's folders directly from my computer.

How to download from Canon s45 with original filename without cardreader?

Luey

Whenever I connect my Canon s45 digital camera to either of my Windows XP computers, the scanners and cameras dialog box comes up and then asks me to give a name to the photos before downloading them. This happens for either normal or PTP mode, either with their WIA driver installed or not. How do I get the files to download with their original names. I hate pulling the CF card and using a card reader because I just know I'm going to bend one of the pins in the camera reinserting it someday. This camera is not recognized as a USB Mass Storage Device and doesn't show up as a removable drive.
There is no download for the entire ZoomBrowser or I would have tried it myself. There is only an updater download. I bought the camera used without software thinking it would be like my Olympus and Panasonic cameras that are USB MSDs. I was wrong. Canon just has to do things differently.

Answer
Use the Canon ZoomBrowser software instead of the XP camera wizard - you can download it here at the Canon Support Website:

Question about connecting digital photo camera to computer?

JamyJenny

Can you please tell the name of a software with which you can take photos on computer while the digital photo camera is connected by usb?

And is it possible to use it as a web camera?

Answer
It totally depends on the camera model.

Not all cameras can be controlled by USB, though many of the better brands can. Webcam capability is probably more common on compact cameras (non-DSLR), and maybe for those DSLRs with movie modes or "Live View".

Windows XP and above has its own camera wizard that can take stills, and usually comes as part of the OS. Nikon has their own Camera Control Pro software for still photos as a separate purchase. Canon usually includes ZoomBrowser EX with their compact cameras, and offers EOS Capture for their DSLRs.

Some other companies sell software that does remote shooting.
