I currently use a Nikon d70s, and need an upgrade. I was told Canon lenses made the leap to digital much better than Nikon's, so I started to research the Canon t2i. Nikon came out with a new camera the 3100 yesterday, made to compete with Canon's t2i, it's $200 less, and 2 mega pixels less (I don't make huge enlargements of my photos, so this isn't a deal breaker) I desperately want a new camera quick because the foliage is changing. Should I buy the Nikon (and use the $200 extra towards a wide angle lens) or invest in a Canon?
my d70 had been giving me issues and i was told that the sensor was scratched, long story short, I was in the mindset for an upgrade. With a bun in the oven, the HD video will come in handy, and I can write the whole camera off for tax purposes. (www.greenmoosephotography.com) Thanks everyone for your help, I bought the 3100 today, so far it's great

You have been talking to a Canon proselytizer who makes statements that are unsupportable
Te D3100 is the only camera that can shoot in the video mode at Full HD and also use the auto-focus feature (except for the Nikon D7000).
It is NEVER a good idea to change camera systems if for not other reason, for the costs involved.
I have a colleague who moved from Canon to Nikon (with the help of Nikon) and has found that the Nikkor lenses are much better at shooting in auto-focus mode than his matching Canon lenses. He is a sports shooter so the accurate auto-focus and low noise at high ISO has made him a believer in the Nikon system.
Stick with your Nikon system and take a really good look hard at the new D3100. I am sure you will find it to be a rather amazing.
Head to head the D3100 out performs the T2i. You can use Yahoo Search and compare the two, feature to feature by visiting the Nikon and Canon websites.
The new Nikkor 10-24 mm wide angle zoom is an amazing lens
NOTE: Both systems make excellent lenses. The only Canon lens that has shown some minor focusing problem is the older version of the 70-200 mm f/2.8. The new version has corrected that problem

Nikon vs. Canon Digital SLR?

I want to buy a digital SLR and i cannot decide between a Canon 450D and a Nikon D5000 or D3001? What do you guys think is the best?
Answer
Go to the store and play with them!!!! Technically Canon & Nikon are very similar. Nikon 3100 has auto focus video... If video is not important. then just feel them cameras in the store.
