i live in the philippines-- so a specific lcoation would be REALLY helpful. i'm looking for places other than the canon service center. :) i went there yesterday and they gave me a really bad price.

Honestly, this is a frequent occurrence with digital equipment. Many times, equipment winds up costing more to repair than it is worth. If you find a markedly cheaper price for the repair, I would be concerned as to whether it is actually being done correctly.
So, at this point the question is really whether or not the camera is worth repairing.

From bhphotovideo.com that camera in the color pink runs about $150.00
I would recommend, though, maybe a different brand than Kodak.

-The benefits of that camera are the vibration reduction, and higher ISO (which means you will make better pictures in low light situations.)
The Nikon is a much better camera both by reputation, statistics, and my personal experience, but I would also recommend a Canon.
If you keep it Canon or Nikon, you can't go wrong.
