Is the Canon PowerShot SX150 IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera a good camera for film/photography?

nem2gz

How long can I film video on it for?
Does it take good quality videos?
Does it have an external mic jack?
If there is a better camera out there that's just as affordable, what is it?

Answer
Canon PowerShot SX150 the camera provides a lot of special shooting features that can be used not only for still photography, but also for the video recording. There's an "easy shooting" mode for those that want to pick up the camera and start shooting right away, allowing the camera to make all the decisions about ISO, white balance, focus, etc. There are scene and filter shooting modes that allow the photographer to select a style for their photos (monochrome, color accent, color replacement, miniature mode, macro, smile and face detection, beach and snow scenes, fireworks, etc.). For those that want more control over their photography, the camera does offer shooting modes in Manual, Program, Aperture and Shutter Priority.

Im looking to buy a high quality inexpensive digital camera, something similar to the canon powershot sx150 IS?

Maria

I want to get a new digital camera that takes very good quality pictures almost professional looking pictures. I am also not looking to spend more than 200. The cannon powershot sx150 IS is exactly what I am looking for except it runs on AA batteries and that is a big hassel to have to continue buying bateries. Any suggestions?

Answer
The Canon SX150IS is on Black Friday sale today at B&H for $150.

If you want rechargeable batteries, just buy a set of 4 AA NiMH rechargeables and a battery charger. You can get these as a kit for $20.

What are the best digital cameras out now?

James

I'm looking for a smaller camera because I can't afford to carry my SLR with me everywhere in case something should happen to it. What I want to know is what are the best well rounded digital cameras out now? Value for money would be nice too... Nothing above â¬250.
Thank you!

Answer

Answer
Buy good-quality rechargable batteries - A charger and 8 rechargable AAs will cost you 20 or 30 bucks, but in the long run they'll save you money... And the photographer takes the professional looking pictures, not the camera. Remember to buy a memory card or two too...

Should I Get The Canon - PowerShot SX150 IS Black 14.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black?

hiiiiiiii

I am planning on making YouTube Videos and i was wondering if this would be a good camera to take video. I was looking for a camcorder but then i thought about looking for a camera because they are cheaper. If you guys find any good and cheap camcorders please feel free to recommend! Thanks

Answer
I have created youtube videos with the Canon SX130, which is the predecessor to the SX150.

If you don't need a full-time camcorder, the SX150 would probably be a good camera for you.

The only real advantage to camcorders these days is the longer time that they can shoot each individual video clip. But this is because the sensors are low megapixel count (most consumer grade camcorders are 3Mp or less), and they are optimized for this mode.

Fact is it does not take as much quality for video as still photos, and especially for youtube, low megapixel sensors work fairly well.

What is the most reliable digital camera for under $100?

Anon.

I recently bought a $70 polaroid digital camera and it stopped functioning in less than a week. I'm returning it tomorrow but I really need a new one soon because there is a big event coming up that I want to take pics at. If anyone has good input, preferably speaking from experience, it would be very much appreciated! I'm not a photographer and I cannot spend more than $100. My only preferences are that it works, it works well, and that it works for a long time. Also I'd really like it to have a flippable or two sided screen. Please help!
Edit: Please don't be rude. I am asking this because I need help and I am listening to answers. It would make me feel more comfortable if you could refrain from unhelpful remarks. Also don't say anything you wouldn't say to me in person. This is the internet and real people are sitting behind these screens. Treat me with respect as I would to you. And keep in mind you aren't invincible just because you're "anonymous".

Answer
Not to worry... there is a solution. The best camera (and perhaps the only good camera) for under $100 is the Canon SX150.

It's actually a pretty decent camera, and originally cost $250. But they have been on close out (Canon must have made a million more than they could sell), and I have no problem in recommending this camera.

I have the SX150's predecessor, the Canon SX130, and I am amazed at the capability of this camera for the price. Here is a review on that camera. The SX150 should be similar:

You may though wish to spend a few more dollars and buy a set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries and charger - which you can get for under $20.

Here is a source for the one I recommend:

Is the Canon Powershot SX150 IS a good camera?

Hi!

I can't find many reviews on it but i found a blog that uses that camera and the pictures look really good. I'm looking for a camera with GREAT image quality. I want Dslr quality but not a Dslr camera. I don't want a cheap digital camera i want something better than those but not as expensive as a Dslr. Do you think the Canon Powershot SX150 IS is a good match?

Answer
The SX150 is a great camera in the under $200 price range - B&H has them for $150.

Compared to a DSLR, it is mediocre. Compared to other $150 cameras, it is outstanding.

Just remember that you get what you pay for.

How do i know if a digital camera is good?

canon digital camera sx150 on Canon Camera With 16 ..

Tacson

I'm new to photography, i want to get a new digital camera, how do i differentiate if the digital camera is good? (good for focusing, good iso, good shutter speed, exposure?) the megapixels of the digital camera doesn't guarantees good ,sharp, focused photos from what i know.

Answer
If you are looking for a compact camera, the best ones are in the 10~12MegaPixel range, and about 4x to 7x zooms.

Too many people fall for huge super zoom lenses, such as 30x zooms. However their optical quality is not as good as the smaller zoom range that I recommend, and some of those super zooms are downright awful. So to get the best optical quality, 4x to 7x are usually the best lenses.

Also, too many people fall for overkill in MegaPixels. For a compact camera, 10Mp to 12Mp is ideal. If you go higher, then the camera's low light performance suffers, as well as the shutter lag is increased. All those extra pixels require more processing speed to process - which just slows down the camera. This is especially true for compact cameras as to keep them inexpensive, they have slow electronics.

The individual models I recommend are the Canon G12, Canon S100, Nikon P7100 or Nikon P310.

These are the best compact cameras in my view, and they all have manual exposure controls (as well as automatic), and all but the Nikon P310, they all have physically larger sensors than the average camera.

But if you are on a budget, the Canon SX130 is the best inexpensive camera in my view. They are getting harder to find, so a substitute would be the SX150 - but I think the performance of the SX130 is a bit better, as Canon has crossed the overkill threshold somewhat with the SX150.

Looking for an affordable digital camera with manual settings?

a

Im looking for a digital camera that has manual settings for things like appeture, shutter speed, and exposure. My price range is in the $100 area. Thanks so much :)

Answer
The best/cheapest camera with manual settings is the Nikon P310 which is currently around $150 or $175.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/842326-REG/Nikon_P310B_Coolpix_P300_Digital_Camera.html

The other option is the Canon SX150, around $110 - but it is AA powered, so allow $20 or so for a set of rechargeable batteries and charger. Also, the SX150 is not as good of a camera as the Nikon P310.

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Wide-Angle-Stabilized-3-0-Inch/dp/B005I6DVC0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372209694&sr=8-1&keywords=canon+sx150

I own both the Nikon P310 and the Canon SX130 (predecessor to the SX150). I would buy the Nikon P310.
