Which camera is better?

for a 14 year old girl that is mad about photography and wants something better than her little digital camera.

i use a sony A200... and sony are good cameras...

the nikons and canons get better reviews, but things are way more expensive...

get as much as you can for your money... i got my A200 from argos with 2 lenses...

see what is available with 2 kit lenses, then you have a lot more to work with...

switching to an SLR camera?

but i want to buy an slr camera and was looking at these two:
1) Nikon D3000 with a VR lens- http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76463/show.html?cm_vc=PPZ1

or

2)Canon EOS 1000D + 18-55mm lens (Not VR- i think :/) http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/75886/show.html

any advice for a beginner?

I own and recommend the 1000D for its superb photos and build. I've added some lenses but my favorite is my Canon 28-200 for its quick, sharp, accurate focus and metering. This package will run about $1,000.
