I plugged camera into computer (Windows 7 HP G61) but there is no driver that I can find to allow it to transfer pictures. I bought the camera second hand and it works great but I do not have the software cd to load onto my laptop and I can't find a compatible driver online for download. Any help would be great

Answer
You don't need a driver. Most of us regulars here use and recommend external card readers for upload.
Readers aren't expensive and are available where ever cameras are sold. I've been using them for years and don't even have software for any of my 4 digital cameras loaded because I don't need to.

Windows 7 driver installation for Canon EOS Digital Software?

I have tried several times to install the software for my Canon EOS 10D since Windows 7 does not recognize the drivers that came with the disk of my Cannon EOS Digital Camera. But when I plugged in the USB cable from my Camera to import the images, Windows opened instead of the Canon program for importing the RAW images. The Canon File Viewer Utility can not find the images which can be viewed within windows. Can anyone help?

Answer
You should install the software with privilege of Administrator. Check this setting and try to install the software as you logged in as an Administrator. If you are sure that you have the Administrator privilege, connect your camera to the computer and wait for the Windows detect the device and install the driver for your camera. And then visit Canon website to find out every available update (such as firmware, and software updates) for your EOS 10D, and install them. After the installation finish, restart your computer. There is also one thing you can try is to change the setting of Communication in your cameraâs menu, from Normal to PTP. Hope this helps.

I have a Canon Megapixel 2000x digital zoom. What cable do I need to hook it up to my 1980 intel computer? Is it even possible?

Answer
Most computers have usb ports. If you don't have windows xp or newer, you may have to download the drivers and install them. Most cameras connect via usb cables. otherwise it may not be possible.

Canon EOS digital Rebel XSi transferrign to pc via interface wont work?

Noo N

I plug the cam into pc and turn it on i install the software on the disk and it come sup with busy for a few seconds then it goes away, as if it wasnt hooked up like normal and it wont let me transfer images?

Answer
Usually its best to first Install the CD..then attach the Camera via a USB-cable..your Software should ask if your Camera is connected or not..
..........
Or try the Opposite..the CANON Drivers should be pre-installed on your OS(XP/Vista)..so first attach the camera and HIT the PWR. Button to turn the camera ON..your PC should recognize the device and show a Product Name..(maybe not a product name)..
..........
Then add the CD-content..and register your product(s).

I just recently bought a Canon Powershot A570IS and I have a Kodak Easyshare as well but I have rechargable Kodak batteries....Would those type of batties work for my new camera or do I have to get new rechargable batteries??

Also I have not received my camera yet so I can't check to see if they work....

Answer
If they are AA NiMH, yes you can. If they are Li-ion's, no. All those are proprietary batteries usually specific to the model as well as the brand camera.

How long should my new video camera batter last?

monicanena

Just bought a Canon Vixia and the battery lasted less than an hour. Is this normal? Doesn't seem right.
Oops, I mean "battery" of course.

Answer
the factory usually sizes a battery to last from 1 to 2 hours of continuous video. less than an hour sounds like there is a problem with the battery or the charger, or else there was a lot of standby time between takes that you are not counting.

Film lens for my digital camera?

I shoot with Canon 5D mk1 and I am planning to buy some film lens. I was looking at carl zeiss and voigtlander. I know somebody who uses a zeiss 50mm and an adapter for canon. I don't mind not having the auto focus since I shoot manual. I really like the sharpness and the colors it produces. I do own a couple of "L" and a prime. Any advise and websites where I can research?
Thanks

Answer
Carl Zeiss makes 50 mm lenses specifically for Canon and Nikon cameras

Some history from Ken Rockwell's website:

"Some years ago Zeiss licensed Kyrocera of Japan to use the name Zeiss on some lenses. Zeiss decided to put these former Contax mount lenses in Nikon mounts instead, and that's how we get these ZF lenses. This lens was not made in Germany and it was not made in a Zeiss factory. It is made in Japan by Cosina." - KR

http://www.amazon.com/Zeiss-1-4-Planar-ZE-Cameras/dp/B001RL2OF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1301337344&sr=1-1

Here is an adapter for Voigtlander to EOS camera.

http://www.rugift.com/photocameras/voigtlander-retina-canon-dslr-adapter.htm

You will notice that you will be using this lens in the fully manual mode.

For clarity, there is no such thing as a "film" lens. ALL Canon EF lenses are designed to be used on either 35 mm EOS cameras, full frame digital cameras (1D and 5D series) and any of the Canon EOS cropped sensor cameras.

Will these canon lenses work on another canon camera?

davidjglov

I was at an auction the other day and bought a box lot containing a Canon EOS 650 body and two lenses. Esentially my question is, will these two lenses work on other Canon cameras.

Wiki says the following:"The EOS (650) system featured the new EF lens mount, which used electrical signals to communicate between the camera and the lens. Focusing and aperture control were performed by electric motors mounted in the lens body. The EF mount is still used on Canon SLRs, including digital models. Canon's previous FD mount lenses are incompatible with EOS bodies."

So I'm guessing these should work on newer cameras based on wiki's info.

I'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANY PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO CAN TELL ME FOR SURE IF THESE LENSES (FROM ~1988) WILL WORK ON, SAY, A T3i OR SIMILAR CANON PRODUCT.

All the information writen on teh lenses is as follows:

1)Canon Lens EF 50mm 1:1.8 Made in Japan 1053713
2)Canon Zoom Lens EF 80-200mm 1:4.5-5.6

Answer
Both of those lenses will work with any Canon DSLR.

The 50mm is still in production in MkII form. I suspect that yours is the much sought after Mk 1 with distance scale and metal mount - a real gem of a lens if it is in good clean condition.

What digital camera should I get?

canon digital camera price list on canon eos 5d mark iii digital slr camera image credit usa canon com
canon digital camera price list image
Q. I want to buy a digital camera, but I'm not sure which I should get.

I've heard good things about Canon but there are various types...

I'm looking for something decently prized, decent flash so that pics can be taken at night, decent zoom. I'm planning on using it to just take regular photos, nothing fancy. I also don't like cameras that take blurry pictures or pictures so sharp the people look scary.

Any suggestions?

Answer
There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The following link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ ...

What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...

Check this camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital. This is more camera for the money.
Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor). You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price ($144), but be careful of the vendor.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

What are the best digital camera brands?

I'm looking into getting a new digital camera but there are so many different brands and choices! I made the wrong decision the last time I did this and do not want to make the same mistake again. Also, I am shopping on a budget!

Answer
Just saw this Canon A590IS camera at Best Buy and Radio Shack. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has a viewfinder, optical image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

For expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the second link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder. It's PINK!

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical (not CCD) image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select then click Stop and OK.

Photography tips for a dark lit environment with moving figures?

canon digital camera 2012 image

???????

I own a Canon 60D DSLR camera and I need to take photos for an upcoming school dance. I would like these photos to cone out as best as possible, but because of the situation, I need tips on how to set up the settings in my camera for the best results.
The dance is very active, and there many moving figures around multicolored/flashing lights in a dark environment.
What settings would help me get the pictures clear, crisp, and not blurry? How would I get the photos to come out with

Answer
First, forget about using your camera's built-in flash except for pictures of individuals or small groups and if you do use it in those situations you'll need to diffuse the flash.

Second, if you can afford either the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 or EF 35mm f2.0 then buy the one you like best after trying them at your local camera store. If you can't afford to buy a new lens then ask if you can rent one. Trying to use the slow, variable aperture zoom lens that came with your camera is going to require a very high ISO so a faster prime lens like the 28mm or 35mm will allow a lower ISO which means reduced digital noise and better image quality. You'll still need a high ISO such as 1600 even with an f1.8 or f2.0 prime lens to achieve a shutter speed fast enough to prevent blur caused by subject motion or camera movement. Since the lenses I'm suggesting are prime lenses with no zoom you'll have to "zoom" with your feet - take a few steps closer to get less in the scene, take a few steps back to get more in the scene. That's how we "zoomed" before zoom lenses were invented.

Third, use your camera's Spot metering setting so the camera's meter isn't trying to calculate exposure for the entire scene. Here are a couple of articles on using spot metering:

http://spotmetering.com/spwhy.htm

http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2012/05/28/when-to-use-spot-metering

The idea is to meter only your subject(s) and let the background go dark.

As I said earlier, if you decide to use your camera's built-in flash in some situations it will need to be diffused. You can use a piece of tissue or thin white cloth or the "Puffer" from Gary Fong.
http://www.garyfongestore.com/featured-products/puffer-pop-up-flash-diffuser.html Using the flash without some sort of diffusion results in harsh lighting which is not very flattering.

From this review it appears that your camera does fairly well at high ISO values but I still recommend one of the 2 fast prime lenses previously referenced.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E60D/E60DA.HTM

Good luck and hope you share some of your results.

What kind of digital camera should I get?

Anonymous.

I have a 2009 panosonic lumix (digital not HD - forget type though), but it's kind of broken because the lens won't open fully. I think it's time to get a new camera since I haven't gotten one since early 2010. I plan to be a photographer in the future (as a side job). I am also going to work at a camp and plan to take pictures there. I don't feel like bringing my big EOS digital 2008 cannon. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Price range no more than $250. I would prefer less than $200, but if it would really suite me, then I'd go for it.
2. I'm not quite sure what I like. I know there's no such thing as a total all around digital point and shoot because I've been doing some research. I'd probably be doing photo shoots, but I also want one that would take like pictures of people doing sports since I'm in the horse world and like to take pictures of people horse riding and stuff. I guess I'd mainly focus on pets and kids and stuff.
3. I know optical zoom. I have photoshop CS5, so I don't need the pixels taken up like that.
4. I don't need a video recording. Would be nice, but eh I'd rather save my money and just use my phone or something.
5. I have a 2010 mac book pro laptop, so I'd like the card to be able to read/format on that.
6. If I print out images, it doesn't need to be more than 8X10 photo paper printed pictures. I mean I'd use my bigger camera for larger photos, so yeah. I'll probably just post the pictures online/email them if anything so won't need them really printed big.
7. I'd like to have a camera that has a decent battery life. At camp, the power went out for 8 days last year. I was able to take pictures the whole time and took over 300 pictures and still had battery life. I wouldn't mind having a long battery life like that camera.
8. My hand does shake a tad sometimes, so I'd prefer a not SOOO sensitive camera.
9. I'd like a camera that has the ability for manual settings and as well as auto or/and preset settings.
10. I'd prefer like Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic (nicer brands rather than the not so trustworthy brands because I know how to use those types of cameras).

Which camera(s) do you think would best suite me?

Answer
http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2012/09/cannon-is-weapon.html

1. Price is right smack in your budget.
2. Zoom is enough on this camera for taking horses and their riders. This is also good for shots of pets, kids and stuff which are near you or relatively out of reach. Just remember to shoot under lots of light. Indoors, use flash.
3. Optical zoom is not extravagant but not wanting either. Don't worry. What it lacks in zoom, it makes up with optical quality.
4. This has HD video which you can completely ignore until you find a lustful desire for it later.
5. As a standard feature, all cameras follow the FAT filesystem. With memory cards 4GB and larger, FAT32 is imposed. Mac computers can recognize FAT/FAT32 without problems. You can even format the memory card to FAT/FAT32 using your Mac (no matter how many pro photographers advice you not to). It will work.
6. This is a 16MP camera. You can print to 11x16" as long as exposure quality is gloriously good enough.
7. Four AA batteries. The best would be Energizer Lithium but you can also get rechargeable Ni-MH. Just make sure they're at least 2100 mAh for very long lasting shooting. In the event you run out, just slide over to the nearest store for some Alkaline AA's. That's the beauty of it.
8. Oh, this camera's sensitive. Apart from excellent optical glass quality, it has a triple-shake-reduction technology so don't worry about shaky hands. You're covered on that one.
9. Manual exposure? Manual focus? No problem. It's not as intuitive as a dSLR. This is after all just a bridge but, if you want manual, this has manual.
10. Since you can't spell Canon correctly, I'll take it you don't know that this brand is older than them and just a tad younger than Nikon. There was a time in fact when all cameras sold by all other brands (nice and not so trustworthy) were lesser than that sold by this brand alone. So there.

Answer
According to dpreview.com,

Summary of changes (compared to the EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT)

* 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor with improved microlens array, fill factor and lower noise
* EOS Integrated Cleaning System
o Anti-static coatings on sensor surfaces plus anti-dust materials in the camera body
o Separate low pass filter with ultra-sonic vibration
o Software based dust mapping / removal
* Nine point Auto Focus sensor (same as EOS 30D) with F2.8 support
* Continuous shooting burst up to 27 JPEG and 10 RAW images
* Single large, bright, 2.5" LCD monitor with 160° viewing angles (horizontal and vertical)
* Camera settings and adjustment on LCD monitor
* Proximity sensor below viewfinder eyepiece to disable the LCD during composition
* New viewfinder view includes 9 AF points as well as EOS 30D style status bar
* Picture Styles, larger range of image parameter adjustment (same as EOS 30D)
* Improved user interface
* Image magnification available in record review
* Histogram available as brightness (Luminance) or RGB (Red, Green, Blue)
* Three settings for long exposure noise reduction (adds Auto option)
* Auto rotation with three options (not recorded, record don't rotate, record and rotate)
* Additional custom functions (magnified view in record review, LCD display at power on)
* Up to 9999 images per folder on storage card
* Automatic storage of setting adjustments (no longer requires a press of the SET button)
* Improved print / share / direct print features
* Lower introductory list price ($100 lower)

IMO, the most useful upgrade is the focusing system. XT does not focus very accurately with large aperture prime lens such as 50mm f/1.8.

what is the best but cheapest digital SLR camera i can use for wedding photography?

boca

i want to buy a new camera

Answer
The cheapest and best would either be a Nikon D50 or a Nikon D70s (if the Nikon D70 is no longer available anywhere).

Some snippets from the D50 conclusion:

"Unlike Canon when they produced the EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) Nikon chose not to cripple their affordable digital SLR. Instead the D50 while lacking some of the D70's features doesn't compromise performance or photographic flexibility, most important for first time buyers who (surely) the manufacturers hope will progress to a more expensive D-SLR later."

&

"The nicest thing about the D50 however is that it just feels right, build wise it's a step above the Canon EOS 350D and Pentax *ist DS, it's also not too small, I'm all for making cameras lighter but there's a limit as to how small you can make an SLR before the hand grip feels cramped and controls begin to get in the way. The D50 feels as responsive as any film camera and is a pleasure to shoot with. The only change I would make would probably be a larger viewfinder view (like that of the Pentax *ist DS).

I'm quite happy to give the D50 our highest rating, Highly Recommended, there's little to dislike and for anyone looking for an affordable digital SLR it has to be seriously considered. My only advice would be to research lenses and decide if you want to go with the Kit or spend a little more on a slightly better lens."

The following links will give you a guidline as to price and say a little something about lenses.

Nikon D50

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond50/

Nikon D70s (Just some info not a full review)
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0504/05042003nikond70s.asp

And not to be completly biased.
The site also reviews the 350D that someone else has mentioned.

350D
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/

From the conclusion:

"when we reviewed the EOS 300D we were disappointed that they had chosen to effectively cripple it by 'coding out' certain features such as metering mode, AF mode, flash exposure compensation, flash sync curtain, mirror lock-up etc. These features were removed in software and it wasn't long before hackers began to restore them in the form of unofficial firmware updates. Thus we should remember that quite a few of the 'new features' available on this camera are there just because they've not been removed.

We did have some control issues too, I was surprised to see settings such as ISO, metering, AF mode and white balance moved from the status LCD to the LCD monitor (which means you have to be able to see it to make changes) and with the requirement of an extra press of the SET button to make changes stick. Lets hope a firmware update can take care of that. We were also disappointed with the 'new' Kit lens, it effectively cripples the potential of the 350D with softness and ghosting at small apertures, do yourself a favour and go for the body only option along with a good lens (the EF-S 17-85 mm IS is good but expensive)."

Though remember the choice of DSLR is also that of personal choice so try and give whichever cameras you are considering a trial run. Also remember not only does the Body (camera) make a difference but also the choice of lens.

Good luck in your choice.

PS

As I am sure you are aware the Cybershots & Powershots are not DSLRs.

PPS

The KODAK P850 is also not a DSLR.
People he asked about DSLR's not any old digital camera.

I really like the Nikon cameras, do i have to buy a seperate lense? Should I get a memory card with it?

I will be using this camera for nature photographs and self portraits.

My price range would be 400 and below.

Can anyone provide me with reviews on digital cameras?

I am looking to buy a point and click digital camera for my sister for christmas. She wants something that is thin but is good for basic shots as well as the occasional video. My price range is somewhere under 200 dollars but for something exceptional, I'm willing to go above that. As a recap, my three biggest requirements are: thinness, low price, ease of use.
I would like a review of at least three different cameras.

It's a very cool looking little camera. The wifi is very limited. I'm a bit upset at kodak for this. They want to trap you into spending more money so they make it so you can't independently access any of the wifi features. You have to sign up with T-mobile to use their hotspots, you have to upload the cameras through kodak, you can't just send them to your computer, they MAKE you use their software, not cool. When you email pictures, you actually mail a link to your gallery through kodak, you can't just mail the pictures. The interface is a good idea, but very hard to operate. The buttons you have to touch with the stylus are SO SO SO small, you frequently miss the right button, it feels as if this is an unfinished idea, but none of this stopped me from buying the camera, hopefully they upgrade the firmware, but for now, only buy it if you want to put in some work.

Reviewer: Donn Young (Columbus, OH USA) - See all my reviews

This is my third - and possibly final - digital camera. It does everything superbly and in a size I can just throw in my pocket so it's always there. Before the SD600 I had a Canon S100 2.1 mp [a great camera] and a Sony DSC-W1 5.1 mp [a piece of $%#@ - every other image blurry].

With the Sony less than a year old, I couldn't put up with it anymore - it was time to go back to Canon so I wouldn't miss any future shots. I got the SD600 at Best Buy 1 day before leaving on a week-long trip to Boston. My 10-yr old daughter was studying the Revolutionary War in school so I was told to take a lot of photos and "Dad, make sure they aren't blurry like all those others." [She's got the old S100, so she's not worried].

Since I'd already had the old S100, the controls were familiar. Best Buy had a 1GB PNY SD chip on sale for $39, so I had room for over 500 photos, plus I picked up an extra battery.

In the week in Boston I shot day, night, flash, long exposure, high light, low light, drizzle, rain, sun, and even a short video of Morris dancers in Boston Common. Every shot was great - and not one blurry, even when the 'shaking hand' was on. I'm not sue that the image stabilization with the SD700 would be all that necessary.

I found that indoors [my greatest fear since the Sony made

What digital camera should I ask for Christmas?

canon digital camera and price image

Mr. Sam

I decided this Christmas that I want a new digital camera. Basically, price is not a problem, but I want high quality pictures and possibly movies. I'm looking for a camera that's relatively small & boxy. Not a big odd shaped camera. If I were to choose a color, it would be black. Now, I know that Canon Rebels take superb quality pictures, but I'm looking for a little digital camera that I can carry around, and isn't a hassle, like the rebel. So, a digital camera, relatively small, boxy, and black. Any suggestions? 10 points to best answer!

Answer
I would suggest Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD

What is the cheapest way to get a digital SLR camera?

Ja

And don't say steal it!
I am a student photographer, and I used a standard canon digital camera, but I wan't something with more optical zoom that can be digital. I already have a canon film slr that my mom used to have, and frankly it is quite old and a hassle to carry around. I decided it might be best if I went ahead and invested in an slr, but i know those are extremely pricey! So, do you know where the best deals are for slr cameras, both on and offline?

Or, if not, do you know what the best slr STYLED digital cameras are that are out there?

Thank you so much!

Answer
Depending on how serious you are into photography and what type of photography you are doing. I would personally recommend a second hand or refurbished digital SLR for starters. I bought mine second hand and paid only 1/4th of the original price.I own Canon EOS 10D,you can see some of my photography on my website.

Then for the lens, the only problem with second hand is to be very very careful. You'll need to check and make sure that the glass has no marks and there is no dust inside, otherwise buy a new lens. Oh as you said you have a canon film slr, if it has autofocus lenses, you can use them with the digital slr so buy a body only and use existing lenses.

Also note that, because the digital slr doesn't have sensor same size as 35mm, so whichever lens you use, you have to multiply it by 1.6 so for example 17mm lens will be converted to approx 27mm on digital slr.

Hope this helps.

P.S. : To start a photography as a student, none of the compact digital or bridge cameras will help, u'll need digital slr (depending on how serious you are as i said). Otherwise yes there are some digital bridge cameras which provides you with almost all features of an SLR but too slow and quality is not same. A canon bridge camera for example is Canon PowerShot G series or Canon PowerShot S2IS.

canon digital camera 550d price india image

Erinn

I'm sure this is a popular question among DSLR users, but I've been recently researching cameras for a trip overseas to India. And it seems that these are the two items for beginners into the world of SLR photography. I would've chosen the 550D but I like the option of the vari-angle LCD screen in the 600D so that was knocked off the list. Help me please. It is much appreciated!

Answer
I'd suggest the Canon 600D because it has a built-in focus motor, the screen has a comparatively higher resolution, 10% larger viewfinder and has higher true resolution, capture more than 10% more detail in your photos. Read this review to aid in your decision:

Which digital SLR for under £500?

btalent60

I am going on a 6/7 month trip to India/Asia/Australia and am looking to buy a good digital SLR to take some pictures!

I am a complete novice but am hoping to read a few photography books. My budget is £500 as I don't want to be carrying anything more expensive with me and I am sure there's no need anyway.

I am considering a few options.

1. Spending ~£250 on a Nikon D40 or Canon 400D with standard 18-55mm lens
2. Spending ~£160 on a D40 or 400D and then a better quality lens though I wouldn't know which one.
3. Spending £430 on a new Nikon D3100 or maybe even £490 of a 550D (though this is a little expensive). These 2 have the advantage of doing video which I'm sure I would use in the 6 months.

Which option would give me the best quality pictures for the best price? And also any cameras in between to consider?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Cheap body.

Sony A200. Minolta, Sigma, Tamron etc., lenses off eBay.

The advantage over the Canon is that ALL lenses will be image stabilised as the Sony has IS in the body, not the lens.

What is the best way to spend 40,000$?

Alex

Say I were to just find 40,000$, if ya know what I mean. How would I go about spending it while still keeping a low profile?

Answer
You can buy a pair of expensive binoculars, and expensive spotting scope and tripod, a digital camera preferably Canon SX10 IS, a library of birding guides, and then take about 5 really good birding trips to places like Australia, Kenya, Ecuador, Peru, and India.

That should just about take care of the 40k.

Email me and tell me how the trips went and what birds you saw.

Are there any digital cameras with wide angle that uses AA batteries?

best canon digital camera under 150 image

FullMoon

I hardly come across these features in one camera! 5x optical would be nice also. I already know about Fujifilm AX200 and AX250, but are there others that are under $150? It seems like no one makes digital cameras that run on AA batteries anymore & I really prefer that.

Btw, anyone have any experience with Samsung SL605 & how is it? It has wide angle but runs on proprietary battery.

Thanks!

Answer
The Canon Powershot SX130 IS uses AA batteries and has a wide zoom with 28mm equivalent wide-angle to long telephoto zoom. Very few point-and-shoot cameras use AA batteries, but I think you are smart to select such a versatile power source.

For AA rechargeable batteries, I recommend the Sanyo Eneloop batteries if you need to supplement your Canon-supplied batteries. These batteries come fully charged, and hold a charge for a year or more, much longer than most AA rechargeables.

What is the best digital camera for under $150?

Chirs m.

I'd like to purchase a new digital camera. I haven't owned one for several years so I'm a bit out of the loop. I'd like one to take pictures of my daughter both inside and outside. And overall for it to give me good looking pictures? Does MP matter if so how much is good, enough or best? Also zoom? 4x? 8x ok thanks in advance.

Answer
"Which one is a good camera to buy?" gets asked many times every single day here on YA.
A quick search would have given you thousands of instant replies (without having to wait for answers), but once again here is my 10 cents on the subject:

I don't really like to give recommendations for particular cameras because there are too many choices and too many variables in what people are looking for. I find it much more useful to help you think this over, then make up your own mind.

Point & Shoot cameras are wonderfully handy because of their small size.
When light conditions are ideal, they even take really nice photos - all of them do.

However, they all DO have limitations - they don't do very well in low light situations (i.e. noisy photos, hard to avoid blur, etc). The little onboard flash is very harsh at close range, and doesn't reach very far.
Many of them have no manual functions, so you are limited to only very basic photos, you can't compensate for unusual situations, or do many fun "tricks" and special effects.
P&S's also suffer from frustrating shutterlag and many of them chew through batteries rather quickly.

If you're ok with all those limitations, then go ahead and pick one, most of them (the same type and same price range) are rather similar. Personally I would pick either a Canon or a Nikon, and would certainly stay away from Kodak and Vivitar.

A higher end P&S will give you more manual options and better quality. Many of those even give you the option of adding a proper flash (which makes a big difference to your flash photos).

Don't worry too much about megapixels - all modern cameras have plenty enough, plus there is a limit to how many pixels you can squash into a tiny P&S sensor before you actually LOSE quality rather than gain it. 6 megapixels is about the upper limit for those little sensors.
Don't worry about digital zoom, in fact, don't EVER use it. It simply crops away pixels, i.e. destroys information. The only real zoom is optical.

Some people ask for a camera that "doesn't take blurry photos". Blur is the photographer's problem, NOT the camera's. Even the most expensive camera will take blurry photos if the person behind it doesn't know what they're doing.

Some words about special effect features such as color accent, or even just b/w or sepia:
About applying any sort of effect in camera: DON'T DO IT !
Imagine if you just happen to take the best photo you ever took - surely you would want to have it in all its glory, right?
Always set your camera to biggest size, best quality (and to color).
That way, you start with the best possible photo as your original.
Then you make a copy and edit it to your heart's content.
You have much better control over any editing on your computer, even something as simple as b&w will look MUCH better when it was processed properly instead of in camera.
You can do all sorts of things to it PLUS you get to keep your original.

Decide which features are important to you, and look for cameras that have that feature.
Then go compare a few models on www.dpreview.com .

The very best thing you can do for your success is to borrow some books and learn about photography. A bit of knowledge will make a much bigger difference to your photos than your choice of P&S camera can.

For what it's worth - if I was in the market for a P&S camera right now, my choice would be a Canon Powershot SX40 HS http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx40_hs#Specifications

If tiny size is attractive and important in your opinion (but you still want a camera that gives you some decent options), I'd suggest looking at cameras like the Canon Powershot SX210IS or perhaps the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10. However, do keep in mind that small cameras have tiny sensors and tiny lenses, so don't ever expect miracles from any of them.

What's the best version of the canon powershot digital camera?

canon digital camera old models on the canon eos rebel series dslrs get canon s entry
canon digital camera old models image

Shannan D

I want to get a canon powershot digital camera, but there is more than one version, and I don't know which is best. I need a widescreen, so I can get everything in the picture, without half of something being cut out of the shot. like only half of someone's head makes it into the picture, ect. I want to avoid that from now on. I heard powershots had widescreens, now I just need to know which one to get. Thanks.

Answer
I wouldn't say it's the best version of the powershot series of cameras, but the S80 and SD800 are the *only* powershot cameras that goes down to 28mm focal length (using 35mm equivalent terms), which is considered a wide-angle focal length. (btw...it's called a "wide-angle" lens, not a wide-screen lens :) )

The SD800 got dinged in its reviews, due to image softness though. You might seriously want to consider some alternatives. The Panasonic line of compact cameras have generally had outstanding reviews.

You have several options:

-- Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2
-- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01
-- Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1

-- Canon PowerShot SD800 IS
-- Canon PowerShot S80

-- Olympus FE-200

-- Ricoh Caplio R5

Panasonic will soon be releasing these:
-- Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ2 & DMC-TZ3
-- Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30

Slightly older, you have these
-- Olympus C-7070 Wide Zoom
-- Samsung Digimax A55W
-- Fujifilm FinePix E510 Zoom

As far as other Powershot models, the G7 is supposed to be its "flagship model" with a 35mm-210 6x zoom lens, but doesn't go down to 28mm. the A640 is generally considered to be almost as feature-rich as the G7, but has a standard 35mm-to-105mm 3x zoom lens. The G7's interface is more slr-like than the A640 (and will give you the control to shoot yourself in the foot if you don't know what you're doing), has a very useful hotshoe for flash, and offers some nice control features, but drops some of the consumer gadgetry, like the flip-out vari-angle display. The A710 has the G7's zoom lens, but it's stuck on a smaller sensor, so its image quality isn't as good, and the batteries (2 aa batteries) mean that flash recycle time suffers. The S80 is an interesting form factor, which shares the G7's control dial, but has a smaller sensor.

I am going to buy a canon digital camera. I need the type that takes pictures fast?

cali2511

I know a lot of digital cameras take forever to focus and then take the pic but i have an 8 month old where certain shots only come for a second and i dont want to miss them. Which cannon is best for that. What do you reccommend? I want a camera that is fast atkes good quality pics and takes longer videos. But also in a price range of about 200. Thanks

Answer
I've been at photography, in one way or another, for over 30 years. Shutter lag is a fact of digital camera life - no way around it. Some cameras are a little faster than others but remember this.
In low light the camera, regardless of make or model will take longer to focus and expose. In bright light the lag time is much shorter.

Here's a recommendation I've been using for a long time. When you're ready to do photos with your child hold the camera ready to shoot. Do the half press giving the camera time to set up and wait - don't shoot but wait. When that shot comes - snap!

Do that procedure over and over again. If you take 50 shots who cares, they're only digital files.
If you get one good shot out of that session you've been successful.

Try it, I think you'll be happy with the results.

I have a question about different digital camera models?

canon digital camera quality on Canon PowerShot A480 digital camera unveiled
canon digital camera quality image

Courtney C

I am looking to buy a Canon digital camera. I realize that there are many different models. I was wondering if the later models, or the ones with higher numbers (ex. SD1000 & SD850) are better than the others. Also, I am looking for very good image quality, reletivley small sized,at least 7 mega
pixels, and the option to enlarge pictures without them losing their quality. Which Canon model do you think I would be best off buying?

Answer
There is no definite rule for determining quality or features, especially from a company that makes so many models. The best thing to do is compare reviews of the models that have a feature set you are interested in. To see a fairly objective review of different camera models try some of the on line web sites.

I like Steve's Digicams because there are reviews of many cameras, it is pretty open minded (fair) and has a very consistent testing method. Each review is divided into sections and has one called Steve's Conclusion that summarizes the good & bad features of the camera.

The site is also very well organized so you can find cameras by mfg., no of MP or when it was reviewed and there are many links to additional information.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

What is the BEST Canon or Nikon digital camera for MOVIE's w/SOUND and in LONG LENGTHS?

Amy 31

Hey there! I am looking for a Canon or Nikon digital camera that records long, good quality movies with sound. Can you recommend?

Answer
I would get the Canon Powershot TX1. Most compact digital cameras shoot video at 640 x 480 but this one shoots at 1280 x 720. That's a huge difference. The sound is in CD quality. It can shoot nonstop up to 4GB (which is only 13 minutes as the highest setting).

The prices of digital cameras in the USA definitely are the cheapest ( EBAY.com -category-cameras/camcorders-digital cameras, Amazon.com and Popular Photography magazine)---In the Philippines-the extra EVAT and tax fees for imports/exports gives such tech gizmos extravagant retail prices. In Hong Kong- your Canon may be priced better than the Phil. but still fake brands may get you ripped off---So buy in USA for a bargain ---

My personal preference:

for a DSLR, I prefer Nikon because the parts are easily available in my area, especially the lenses from third party like Tamron and Sigma, which can save me more money than buying the original Sony or Pentax lenses. Pentax and Sony lenses are just difficult to acquire in my area.

I would recommend the Nikon D3100 or D5000. They have a very easy user friendly guide that was designed for beginners.

for PNS...
I like the Canon S95 and S90 a lot. I prefer them than any PNS out there because both cameras can fit in my jeans pocket, which means that I can have a camera every time. An alternative for them, if the price is too high would be the Lumix FH20 < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEbeCPSkG⦠>, For extended zooms, that would be a toss-up between the Canon, Nikon, and Lumix.

Citrify, iPiccy, PicMonkey, Ribbet, Picadilo, Fotor, FotoFlexer or Lunapic are great all round web based and FREE editing tools. Adobe, makers of the expensive Photoshop, has a free website version in Photoshop Express. If you are a former Picnik user than Picmonkey and Ribbet will be your best choices.

If you need/want more features downloading GIMP is a great options. Still free, but you have to download the software.

Answer
You might be shooting in RAW mode. Confirm that you loaded the Canon software from the disc that came with the camera, on the computer you are trying to use. PCs and Macs, tablets and phones can only show standard file types like jpegs.

RAW is different for every single camera that can shoot RAW, it's very annoying, not sure why camera makers refuse to make RAW as DNG, but whatever.

In a pinch, Google's Picasa (free download) can open just about any RAW file.

One last thing, don't let RAW scare you, that's how you should be shooting, RAW is the highest quality, and all the data from the image sensor. If you are still running into trouble, shoot in RAW+Jpeg mode on your camera.

Once your files are on your computer, if you are using a PC, just choose the 'view' tab, choose to sort by type. Then save RAW in one folder, jpeg in another.
