best digital camera for under $200?

stinkynach

whats the best digital camera for under $200. I'm not too concerned about all of the special features and not looking for anything too fancy. It just has to have a good battery life, take clear pictures, and not break easily. which one would you recommend? thanks!

Answer
I recommend the Canon Powershot Digital Elph. It's regularly $200 but you could probably get it cheaper on the internet or something. It has 7.0 megapixels and it takes some great shots. The action shots aren't GREAT but I still recommend it. I know you said you don't care about all the special features, but this camera has a bunch of them and you won't want to stop playing with them! Haha anyways the battery life is great, it's easy to use and it should have a great lifespan as long as you don't drop it a lot! I've had my camera (an older version of this one) for 3 years and it's still working just like I got it the first day! Well, in conclusion, I highly recommend this camera!

What are the best compact digital cameras for under 200 dollars?

leslieleef

What camera do you think is the best for under 200 dollars? I like canon's bright colored ones do you think thoose are the best?

Answer
I Like the Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Black) - around $160 at Computizone.

This is a very good digital camera in such a small size. The only problem that I find is its zooming. It does not zoom at slow speed. It is difficult to zoom any object in between the limits. But that is not a very serious issue. In a tiny camera like this the facilities that it has is wonderful. It fits well in the pocket and because of corners does not slip off quickly. It's movie clips are good and fine. I find it to be very handy one. I have a Cannon SLR. That one is big to carry and cannot be taken out quickly for some quick shots. This camera is easy to carry and has good performance. I like it.

where could i buy the Canon nb-5l battery ?

my Canon camera don't work, the battery is broken, could you help me ?

Answer
I only buy OEM batteries (in this case, Canon). I would purchase it from either my local camera shop OR B&H Photo.... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/425695-REG/Canon_1135B001_NB_5L_Lithium_Ion_Battery_3_7v.html

If you insist on buying a third party brand, then I would suggest that you buy the matching charger to go with it. A cheaper battery may not have the proper charging circuitry for the Canon charger to be able to determine the battery's condition.

IF I were to get a third party brand, the only one I would use is Pearstone (along with the Pearstone charger)....in other words, along with a $19.95 Pearstone NB-5L battery, I would get the $79.95 Pearstone NB-5L charger instead of spending $42.40 for the Canon battery.

I'm deciding on a digital camera. Is Kodak EasyShare C613 or C713 good cameras? Let's say I record a video. I know they both support video with sounds. When I playback the video on the Kodak EasyShare C613 camera, will the video be playing with the sounds? What other kinds of digital cameras would you recommend for $130 and down price?
Do all digital cameras that record video with sound play the sound during playback?

Answer
Hi there,

I would not go with Eastman Kodak Cameras. Kodak usually sale their camera for cheap, its because all their camera are usually made in China. The quality of the camera is not that good. I would recommend buying a Canon, but the problem is its going to be a little bit more expensive. I understand that you're on a budget of 130, but I'm pretty sure you can find a good Canon, Made in Japan camera for about 170 at best buy, with a 7.1 mp.

Good Luck

Best digital slr cameras, Nikon, Canon, Sony?

Oh So Ador

I'm looking for a digital slr camera.
Which brand would be the best?
Nikon, Canon, Sony, Kodak, or something else.
I'm looking at nikon's and sony's, right now.
So.. yeah.
THANKS!

Answer
Canon generally makes better lenses. This usually drives up their prices and can be a problem to the financially challenged.

Nikon is usually more technologically advanced. This is good for photographers that love rattling off their camera's specs.

Pentax is the most backward compatible with regards to its own older lenses. Their newest model, the K-x is now offered in dandy colors, sadly only in Japan at first.

Sony uses sensor sizes similar to the top three above and it's only drawback are its own lenses which they solved by offering the more superior Carl Zeiss lenses.

Kodak is a pioneer in digital photography and makes digital sensors for all camera brands. Sadly, their best dSLR camera was made eons ago during the early stages of dSLR development.

Other brands opted to use the smaller four-thirds format using a small sensor size than those brands above.

There is no best camera. It all depends on brand loyalty or salesmanship. If you ask me, they are all practically the same. As long as it has shutter and aperture control, it'll work for me. Maybe that's the reason I chose Pentax.

Is the Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR camera compatible with a MacBook Pro?

laceeloray

Answer
Hi laceelorayne_13,

Yes, so long as you have the appropriate software for the image formats you create it will be able to process them on the MacBook Pro. If you buy the camera new it will come with software for processing images on Apple and PC compatible systems. Otherwise you can go to the Canon Product support website and download the appropriate software.

Apple has advanced software available in such products as iPhoto11 but you should be able to do basic processing with the standard functions included with the MacBook and the camera.

Hope that helps Goodluck.

Which to buy: Canon 60D vs T4i?

Kdclmn

I have money for both, and I know the specifications for both. T4i has a better processor and a lot of improvements (apart from max shutter speed). I of course would want to buy the cheaper of the two, but I am looking for peoples opinions that have actually used the two different cameras.

Thanks.

Answer
The 60D does win the price war.

The T4i hasn't been available for very long, so not much is known about it. This site that compares cameras declines to make an evaluation because the T4i is so new.
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-Rebel-T4i-vs-Canon_EOS_60D

The T4i is getting fairly mixed reviews from actual owners of the camera.
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-REBEL-Digital-Camera-18-135mm/product-reviews/B00894YX2U/ref=sr_cr_hist_all?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Whereas the 60D has received good reviews consistently.
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-CMOS-Digital-Camera-3-0-Inch/product-reviews/B0040JHVCC/ref=sr_cr_hist_all?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

I'd wait a while before buying the T4i, it's just too soon to tell if it's going to be a winner.

digital photography camera?

meow

hi can anyone tell me whats a good brand for a digital photography camera something thats like $300 to $400 thanks

Answer
While there are good and bad brands, generally with digital cameras the differences in quality are very slight and are often something the average amateur wonât notice.

What is far more crucial is how the camera operates and what you intend to use it for. At the price range youâre taking about youâre looking at a point and shoot camera. These come in three varieties in addition to many different sizes.

There are the true point and shoot cameras where you simply point it and press the button. Those are often the least expensive and or course the simples to use. Theyâre great if you donât want to be bothered with taking pictures and youâre happy with generally average results. On the opposite end of the scale are the ones that allow you to control everything like aperture, shutter speed, exposure value, ISO etc. These tend to be rather pricy in comparison but theyâre great if youâre trying to learn photography and if youâre interested in being creative with your camera. And then there are hybrids in between these two extremes where you have some control. All of them let you point and press the button, the real question is whether thatâs all you ever want to do. So one decision you need to make is which of these flavours is right for you.

The next issue is mega pixels, the more you have the larger the prints you can produce and/or the more you can crop a picture. If you donât care about either, five or six mega pixels is plenty. If you do want to do cropping or printing large prints, consider something in the eight to twelve mega pixel range.

Then there is the lens. Most of these cameras come with a 3x zoom which is ok for general photography but not especially nice if you are interested in a larger range of subjects. Larger zooms however also cost more money which is worth it if you use them but no value at all if you donât. With the very long zooms (8x â 12x) select a camera with an image stabilizer otherwise youâll get fuzzy pictures every so often from camera shake.

These factors are generally what you should be most concerned about rather than any specific brand. However brands do play a role. First of all I would stay away from brands like Sony and Olympus both of whom use a lot of proprietary technology. Each has their own memory card for instance which consistently cost more to buy than the standard Secure Digital or Compact Flash cards. It doesnât make sense to buy into a brand that forces you to use only their products because all the money you spend will either force you to spend it again if you change brands or will force you to stay with that brand if you want to save that money.

Secondly, prefer a brand that is associated with a company that has always made cameras. Brands that come to mind are Nikon, Canon, Polaroid and Pentax for instance. These companies understand how photographers work and so they design cameras that are friendly to photographers and easier to use. Companies that do not make cameras will build a nice camera electronically and it will get you a lot of nice shots, however you will often find yourself losing shots as you screw around with the menu to establish a setting. Cameras designed for photographers make the setting process faster and simpler.

Personally for point and shoot cameras I tend to favour the Canon PowerShot brand. Canon has an incredible range of cameras in this line that gives you incredible choices as well as quality. I have a Canon PowerShot myself as my point and shoot camera. I have a G7. In the SLR realm I tend to prefer the Nikons, I have two Nikons, a D70s and a D200 but youâre a long way from considering an SLR so Iâd not worry about that for now.

Finally, the other deciding factor is how it feels in your hand. If youâre an occasional photographer perhaps thatâs not too important except that if you happen to have big fingers, a tiny credit card camera isnât going to work for you. Similarly if you plan to take a lot of pictures, how it feels becomes crucial because if the controls donât comfortably fit your hands youâre not going to like using the camera no matter how good it is. Associated with this is also the question of how you plan to carry it. I have a point and shoot because my SLR is a thirty pound knapsack which is something I canât carry in my pocket for the odd picture once in a while. So give some thought to size and also to feel.

You can find cameras within the price range that cover these considerations.

I hope this helps a little in deciding what to buy.

Cameras? ?

i am starting out doing photography and would like to know what camera ahould i buy that has a good lens that can provide me with good quality pictures that i can blow up with them being very blurry and my price range is around 500-600$ (for the camera and lense)

Answer
Olympus is the best value in DSLRs today. Several reviews have mentioned that Olympus offers a better value by packing more features for the same or, in most cases, less than the competition. Olympus has been praised for being easy for beginners while offering the full control and quality that professionals demand. Olympus also makes the smallest and lightest DSLRs on the market today, with the E-420 being the smallest.

Olympus offers picture quality comparable to any other manufacturer out there. It is true that the sensor, the four thirds system, is smaller than other DSLRs. It is also true that this technology was created with cooperation between Olympus and Kodak with support from Sigma, Sanyo, Panasonic, Leica, and Fuji. Itâs not just one company, its an industry standard. Olympus also designed its digital Zuicko lenses to be digital from the ground, rather than adapt film lenses for digital use. The end result is a sharp, clear, crisp image with great color quality and clarity. Since Olympus cameras come with many shooting modes and live view, itâs easier to become familiar with the camera and learn the manual controls one by one until you are ready for full manual control.

I have used many different camera brands over the past 30 years, including Nikon, Fuji, Argus, Olympus and even Sanyo among others. I choose Olympus because the cameras are lighter and offer more features than the competition in the same class. On the entry level side, the Olympus E-420 offers many advanced features other entry level cameras, such as the Nikon D40, donât have. My E-510 came with a nice 14-42mm lens that is the one of, if not the, lightest lens offered with a DSLR kit, and among the fastest to auto focus. And with the new prime 25mm lens, the E-420 has been compared in size to some compact cameras. The size and weight can become an issue when carrying a camera around all day. Look around Yahoo! Answers and you will find several people who upgraded to DSLR cameras now looking for a quality compact to use as their take along. All cite the size and weight of the DSLR as the main factor.

Since Olympus offers more for less money, youâll find it easier t get all those extras that go along with a new camera. You canât forget about the things you need such as memory cards, tripod, carry bag, extra battery, flash, etc. You donât want to find yourself short, no matter what camera you decide to buy.

When buying a DSLR camera, most come bundled with a lens in a kit. Olympus offers auto focus on all the kit lenses, with the exception being the new prime 25mm lens. Some companies offer only manual focus lenses. Itâs not a major issue. After all manual focus lenses tend to be lighter since they have no motor in them. However, many people moving to their first DSLR are looking for those little things that help them out and prefer auto focus lenses, at least to start. This is another reason Olympus is often considered a better buy, giving you more for your money.

Olympus also went with Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body. This makes all lenses IS lenses, others such as Nikon and Canon offer IS only in additional and expensive lenses. Another feature you get along with the patented, and first, dust reduction system in DSLRs. In body IS has been proven to be as effective as the lens IS. The fact is that since Olympus uses a smaller sensor and in body IS works best with smaller sensors, it made sense to offer IS as a value added feature.

Itâs also true that any DSLR you choose will be a quality product that serves you well for years. The main differences tend to be the features offered at a given price point and personal preference. Nikon and Canon have the largest share, with Olympus being the fastest growing brand. Sigma and Leica are known for their quality and the price shows.

[looks like that]

and i used these generic kind of batteries called North Tech â¢

I think i got them at "Big Lots" and every time I put a new set of these batteries in the screen says change batteries. WHATS UP WITH THAT?
Anyways if you have this camera please tell me what kind of batteries you use....o and what memory card you have. Cuz mine is an sd 32..

Answer
Memory cards used to day are at least 1GB ... usually more like 2GB for SD cards and 4GB if the camera takes SD/SDHC cards. Yours uses the higher capacity cards.

Batteries: Your camera is optimized for AA NiMH rechargeable batteries, not standard AA's

Buy some of those with a charger and try again ... you should get over 250 shots per charge as long as you keep the LCD turned off and turn off the camera after each shooting session

Answer
For the price, it is a good little camera, but it is lacking either a view finder or IS. You need at least one of those features to assure sharp images shooting in low light situations without flash.

For about $30 more you can get a great camera that has both.

I have a Nikon P7000, which is essentially the same size as the Canon G12.

What camera would you recommend...?

Q. To an overly energetic teenager with A.D.D. who wants to get into photography. I'm pretty clumsy so nothing too expensive. I'll probally end up breaking it. Please include brand, model, price, and why. Also a link would be nice. (Btw, I want a digital SLR.)
I already have a digital camera but I want to upgrade to a DSLR. Maybe a Canon or Nikon

Answer
Wow. If you want a DSLR, and preety clumsy and going to break it. You should stay away from a very expensive toy called the DSLR. However, If thats what you want, then thats the info you'll get

Personally, for teenagers, i'll highly recommend the Canon 1000D. A cheap camera that can sustain some knocks. (Just not too hard). I borrowed it from a friend and went for a hiking trip with it, Climbing up a mountain somewhere in Malaysia. (Malaysia is in Southeast Asia). Just beware that DSLRs aren't some waterproof and shockproof olympus compact, and must be handed with care as changing lenses will involve exposing the mirror to the outside world.

If you want something cheaper, then the Nikon D40x would be the way to go. Cheaper, lighter, smaller. 3 reasons for a Nikon D40x.

If you just want to take some shots, I'll recommend the Panasonic Lumix FZ28 with its 18x zoom. Its more of a superzoom, and really very useful if you don't want to carry too much stuff.
A canon alternative would be the Powershot SX10IS

or.. if you want something that fits in your pocket, its the new Canon Powershot SX200IS. with a high 3200 iso for a compact, 12x Optical zoom and 12.1 MP, compacts can't get any better than this. For now at least..

So its your call, if you really want a DSLR, then choose between the canon 1000D/Rebel Xs or Nikon D40

will there be canon eos rebels in southeast asia?

Happyday D

for those camera professionals, are these good dslr's?

any other cameras that could match their qualities?

Answer
Canon EOS Rebel cameras are available everywhere. I was all over SE Asia last year (in China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore) and I saw them everywhere. Well, not so much in the countryside of Laos and Cambodia, but you get the point.
These are very good cameras.
The dRebels are entry level dSLR cameras. In this market segment, a lot of other companies have competitive cameras, too. Like Nikon (the D40, D40X, D60, and D80 models come to mind), Sony, Olympus, and Pentax.
In my opinion however, Canon and Nikon are a cut above the rest. Mainly because you can get so many different lenses for them on the used market and because Canon and Nikon can grow with you as a photographer... all the way to professional cameras and lenses if you want.
If you want to read up on a specific camera, here are two great review sites. Keep in mind that the Canon digital Rebel is not one specific camera: it's four different models that replaced each other over the years, starting with the
dRebel, a.k.a. 300D (first try, very old by now)
dRebel XT, a.k.a. 350D (decent but getting old)
dRebel XTi, a.k.a. 400D (still sold new)
dRebel XSi, a.k.a. 450D (brand new)

What is the best ultra compact digital camera?

I am looking for the best ultra compact digital camera. Different websites have their own review..

Answer
You weren't very specific on your requirements but I can steer you in the right direction, first head over to Cnet reviews and look at the Editors top cameras, http://reviews.cnet.com/Digital_cameras/4521-6530_7-5021301-1.html?tag=dir then take a look at Steves-Digicams, http://www.steves-digicams.com/ (note that the Canon A610 and A620 were top picks by both websites but they are not ultracompact, Steves-Digicams even has a "The Best" section, http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html and then you can check out Dpreview, http://www.dpreview.com/ and lastly for user opinions head on over to Epinions, http://www.epinions.com/ using all of these sites you should be able to narrow the field pretty quickly.

I just came across the Casio Exilim EX-Z120 which features 7.2 Megapixels, 3X optical zoom, 2 inch LCD screen and uses AA batteries, the reviews seem to concur that this is a nice camera, all the places I listed above have reviews of it, check it out.

Answer
"Best" is a pretty subjective adjective. Photographers will all defend the choices they made, because they have an emotional and economic investment.

Canon and Nikon are the most used DSLRs, but you will find fans for Fuji, Sigma, and others.

As for the "best", if you mean the most expensive, look that up on line at any camera dealer that sells more than one brand. Having worked in a camera store, I can tell you that salespeople get rewards for pushing certain brands.

But I think "best" should mean the one that meets YOUR needs and wants for the immediate future. It's like cars, clothing, or friends. Nobody should make judgements for you.

Remember, if you seek the best, you'll be envious when the next model comes out. And if you wait for the next one and the next one, you'll never buy a camera.

A digital Camera ? ?

~Nichole~

Is there a digital camera out there that not only takes great pictures but makes good videos too? Under $150 please!

Answer
If you want to get really good video at a great price, look at the Canon Camcorder. The Canon camera described below will do video, but not as good as their Camcorder, but it will do great pictures.

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $149.99 at Best Buy store yesterday.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

High mega pixel settings may not be best. It takes longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. When buying a new camera, look for an optical viewfinder (LCD not visible in bright sun) and check replacement battery prices.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

im buying a digital camera..?

daria

ive had my eye on an canon SLR for years.

MY QUESTION:
is there a digital camera out there, that takes better photographs than an SLR?

i own a film slr and its great.
but i want to go digital.
the canon digital seems perfect but im wondering more about
comfort and traveling with it. maybe theres something more compact - or smaller... with the same qualities as an slr...

get it?

ok go-

Answer
i have owned 5 different digital cameras over the past couple of years. the canon power shot series is an amazing point and shoot compact digital camera. another great one is the sony cybershot. one that i definitely don't recommend is the nikon coolpix.
although, the convienence of a compact digital camera works in most situations, nothing beats an SLR.. especially a canon or nikon.
i personally find the nikon D100 and D200 (also the professional models- D1X and D2X) to be the most comfortable to use.
the great thing about going digital is the 'instant gratification' factor.. point, shoot, and review on spot.. no waiting for film development. also the storage capabilities of media cards in the digital age is phenomenal! ..instead of having to be choosey with what you shoot.. you can go nuts and shoot to your heart's extent and delete with the press of a button.
size and portability factors.. all depends on what you plan on shooting and the quality you desire. compact point and shoot cameras will do a sufficient job in most situations. but like i said.. a professional SLR is far better in quality.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21MP Digital SLR?

ochiba s

i am an mature photographer..i invested in a Sony Alpha A380. i am making a great use of it..but just seen some more models and brands..i cam across Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21MP Digital SLR which is £1500...heavier and 21MP..now why is this camera dearer than my Sony..is it the pix-elation or what..can some one comment on this..

Answer
The Canon 5D series cameras are full frame and your Sony is a so called cropped sensor camera, also called an APS-C sensor

Here are two things to consider before changing camera systems

Which camera do you recommend? the Canon 5d Mark II or Nikon D700?

David Jane

thanks James for that in depth comment. It certainly does fit in my budget,& thats why im considering it. the d700 is the 1 im aiming for, but its more expensive.i like the AF points on the d700, the faster FPS,apparently better performance in low light, better build quality etc.i also consider the prices of lenses. in my opinion, canon lenses are cheaper, &if im going to collect them, lets just say, i can have 5 lenses for the price of 3 nikon lenses. currently i have a dx format nikon d60 with kit lens and tripod. so im still amateurish, but i can definitely say either camera will be a major step up. the only thing that is a stumbling block for me is if im to outlay so much money, i want quality. so, thanks to ur meaningful comment, im leaning even more to the canon based on best quality for the buck. ill have to sacrifice some nice features of the d700 for the money but i think on my skill level, i wont notice that much of a difference. of course,i can always buy the d700 later.

Answer
Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G5ZTLS?ie=UTF8&tag=0610-20

Review: Pros:

Crazy high ISO performance
Fantastic amazing image quality you have to see to believe!
Great menus, sharper, brighter, easier to read then 40D
Video, did someone say video? I love it! You will need a tripod!
Fantastic rear LCD that you can check actual photo sharpness
Super low light high ISO photographic tool with 25,600 ISO!!!
Feels great in your hands, the grip texture is easy to hold and is well balanced
Low 50 ISO allows photos at F/1.2 aperture out in bright sunlight for shallow DOF

Cons:
No Built in popup Flash
A little slower shooting then the 40D
Very demanding of lenses, high end L lenses are a must have
Huge files: you will need larger memory cards and a larger hard drive
Ultra large bright sharp viewfinder makes my 40D finder seem dim and tiny
Hum... I'm thinking..

This was my first full frame camera. Prior to it I had owned and operated a 40D, 30D and Rebel XTi. I am a wedding and sports photographer primarily, so I have been able to test the 5D Mark II out under both of these conditions.

For basketball I used it with AI Servo, Center Point focus, but went into custom settings and enabled the AF assist dots. It worked like a dream, focusing faster and more accurately than my 40D ever had. While no, the FPS aren't ideal for sports, if you can lock on focus like this from the start, you can still achieve amazing sports photographs. Plus the fact that I was able to shoot at ISO 4,000 and not have noticeable noise was just incredible. The shots auto-white balanced correctly too which normally in the arena I shoot at is not what happens on my 40D.

My first wedding all I could say all day was wow. I was getting available light photographs I never would have dreamed of before. The new screen also made it incredibly easy to determine if something was in focus or not. When I would switch between my 40D and 5D2 I found out just how spoiled that screen had made me, since the 40D screen looked terrible to me now when previously I thought that had a great screen. I sure was wrong! 920,000 pixels is definitely the way to go on this LCD. I primarily shot with center point (one shot) for my focus and it nailed focus every time. I did a mix up of manual, aperture priority and some program (Program mostly for the formals)

What else do I love about it? The 98% view finder is awesome. I like being able to use UDMA cards in it...

Video! Although I'm not a video / motion person by nature, I prefer stills, I've been testing out the video quite a bit. At Christmas I took a few short clips of my nephew and was really happy with how they look. It's very neat to be able to take high definition video of a little kid and have that awesome affect of a wide aperture blurring out the background. The only downside is that the files are huge. My 1 minute clip was over 300MB, but that's what I get for shooting in 1080!

The batteries this camera use really do hold a charge for a while. I used mine with the battery grip at the wedding, and the two batteries after going for over 500 shots (maybe close to 600 shots that day?) still had about 72% charge each left on them. I could easily have shot 3 times that much and still have had left over charge on the batteries. Also the new battery info screen is really nifty since you can see what serial number battery has what charge, making it a lot easier to keep track of.

So far I've used a 35 1.4/L, 135 2/L, 70-200 f2.8/L, 50 1.4, and 100 2.8 Macro on this camera body and all have performed wonderfully. I don't miss the pop up flash that my 40D has since I never used it anyway, I always throw my 580 EX II on top when I need flash.

This camera really is a gem and I highly recommend it if it fits in your budget!

Samsung - Wi-Fi WB150F 14.0-Megapixel or Canon - PowerShot SX160 IS 16.0-Megapixel? which is better?

Sally Mae

okay you camera geeks, ive looked a lot into both these cameras. here's all the info you need for both of them:
samsung http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Wi-Fi+WB150F+14.0-Megapixel+Digital+Camera+-+Black/4877298.p?id=1218570953380&skuId=4877298&st=Thanksgiving_Day_Sale_2012_Cameras_Camcorders_70421&cp=2&lp=3#tab=specifications

what i want in a camera: good, quick focus (like, i don't want the pictures coming out blurry), high resolution, good quality (almost professional looking). when its dark i want it to take good pictures too.

i've asked a friend and he said the canon one would be bad for low-light situations..i just need more opinions though. i'm kinda already leaning on the samsung because it's cheaper plus it has the wifi which is a really cool feature (at least, i think so) but i still need help deciding.

please be as detailed as possible in your response!

Answer
Sometimes we are undecided between a couple of camera models.

The best thing for figuring out the differences and picking the winner is to go to the manufacturer's website and compare the specs. If they are made by the SAME company, you may even find a comparison tool right there on their website.
Carefully read the specs and make note of the differences.
Make sure to get a camera with manual modes (manual, aperture priority and shutter priority), so you have the choice to be as creative as you want to be. Don't worry..... the old AUTO function will still be there, too, just in case you can't cope without it.

Nearly always the newer and/or more expensive model actually IS the better one, too, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you really NEED the dearest one. This is the part that is hardest for us to answer, since YOU know much better what your needs are than we do.

If you're still undecided, google for a few reviews and check out sites such as www.dpreview.com or http://snapsort.com/compare .

Doing this work yourself instead of waiting for an answer to be presented has a big advantage for you. It forces you to do some thinking, research and learning. In the process, you become an educated shopper who is much more likely to enjoy his/her purchases instead of regretting the wrong choices a short while later.
Enjoy the journey - that researching part can actually be fun!

Answer
When picking a P&S camera, the most important factor to consider is the optical zoom range. This is something you will have to live with until you buy your next one.

The Canon has a 10x optical zoom and the Nikon only a 4x. As you may surmise the Canon will give you a lot more in the way of options when shooting your child or anyone else or anything else.

What criteria are you using to choose the camera? Price? Pixel count? Something else?

What you may want to do is compare cameras with similar optical zoom ranges and then look at what they cost and which features they each have.

What's best overall lens for Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera?

irishizzz1

I am getting ready to purchase a Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera and can't decide which lens to get. The lens that it comes with doesn't zoom enough for me. I typically take pictures of my kids- and I want something versatile so that I'm not having to switch lenses all of the time. Any suggestions?

Answer
Not quite as much of a wide angle, the Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Autofocus Lens (2007-$1,060) is a pretty good all-around lens. This review says, "If I had only one lens, this would be the one."
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-24-105mm-f-4-L-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

If the "L" lens is too rich for your blood, maybe the Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Lens is a good choice at $515. At B&H Photo, 15 reviews gave it an average of 4.6 out of 5.

Should I get the Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera or a Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR camera?

freedom ai

I've never had a professional camera before, and I don't have too much experience with photography. However, I really want the quality of a professional camera. I don't care much for it having a bunch of features, but I do want a fairly long battery life. Also, I am a teenager (17) who's only had a summer job, so which one will give me a bigger bang for my buck?
thanks! do you have any other suggestions for a camera that takes really good QUALITY pictures?
I mainly want the camera for taking pictures of landscapes and my family because I am traveling to Iran and London this summer.

Answer
Get the Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR.

Mark II is currently the best SLR out there for Canon based on features and things but it's a pro pro cam which is not necessary for you since you never had one before. The Rebel is a good choice because it's not as big and its less expensive but still offers similar functions that produce great photos.

For quality photos, you also need to take in consideration of the lens (they are expensive too!). Buy good lenses because you can still use the lenses even if you decides to upgrade the camera body. (they have to be the same brand =D) Since you want it for landscape, you can take a look at this: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/canon-lenses/Canon-Landscape-Lens.aspx

All SLR has uber long battery life...(at least with the ones I've used XD) but I suggest you buy an extra battery so when you're out visiting places, you won't have to worry of running out of batteries.

Get a big memory card too or multiple ones, especially if you take pictures in RAW format. Good quality = use a lot of memory! You don't want to run out of memory on your trip!

Another suggestion: camera is only a machine that takes picture, quality pictures also depends on your skills. So before you go on your trip, make sure you KNOW YOUR CAMERA! and all its function because it'll suck if you realize that you can take a much better photo with that feature instead after your trip.

Another note you need to consider: DSLRs are huge and heavy, especially when you have multiple lenses to take different kinds of pictures. It can be a pain in the butt to carry around when travelling to places. Get a camera backpack--it'll help your shoulders alot! Personally I prefer smaller cameras like Canon Powershot G12 when traveling with family because it's easy to use and carry but still has features like a DSLR XD (but that's my personal choice XD)

Good luck in finding your camera!

help...computer wont recognise my Canon EOS 1000D?

CM-09

for my birthday recently i recieved a canon eos 1000D but im having trouble linking it to my laptop

i tried to upload all the software that came with the camera but there was a section called 'eos utility' that failed to upload, i tried downloading it from the internet instead and it still didn't work

howvever, apparently i should still be able to connect my camera to the laptop without the software, but my laptop just doesn't recognise it at all, it wont show the device in 'my computer'
all that happens when i plug the USB cable in is it says 'found new hardware' and asks me to uplaod the software (which doenst work)

my laptop also doenst have a memory card slot so i can't do it that way :/

what should i do?

Answer
What version of windows are you running? I know with Windows 7 it should find it automatically, either by checking the windows update site, or having the driver built into windows.
I have a 1000D and never have a problem at all with it.

When you plug it into your computer, do you switch your camera to the "ON" position?
I know it sounds stupid, but believe it or not, it could be something that simple.

In Device Manager (right click on My Computer/Properties/Device Manager) you should have either "UNKNOWN DEVICE/CANON EOS/DIGITAL CAMERA" appear under unknown devices.
If that is there, then it just doesn't have the driver installed, which is available from the Canon website.
If not, then pick yourself up a $10.00 card reader, and save yourself a lot of headaches down the road.. A card reader is a lot faster to D/L your photos from the 1000D/XS camera anyway!

how can i upload my pictures from the camera to my polaroid camera

i have a polaroid i534 camera n i need help uploading pictures.i tried going to my computer n then the file but i couldn't find it also when i connect the camera to my computer nothing pops out like it should.././

Answer
Which OS? Windows? XP or Vista or Mac OS X, 10.4.x or 10.5.x???

As with any computer problem, try rebooting your computer, as this often clears up communication problems by resetting the USB Bus.

If that doesn't solve your problem, there doesn't appear to be driver support for your camera anywhere on the internet.

It is a very cheap camera, and I suspect that no one is going to spend much time coming up with a 3rd party driver.

Try reinstalling the software, and see if that helps.

If not, a better solution would be to replace the camera with something that would work better.

As I looked at your camera specs, this is a very low functioning, low quality camera. This camera only has .1 megapixels, which is ridiculously low. You would be better off replacing it with something with removable storage, like an SD card and higher number of megapixels.

If you can't afford to replace this camera at this time , consider buying a cheap 35mm camera, as it's quality will far surpass the cheap digital camera.

An inexpensive good quality digital camera, is the Canon A590. It runs about $150. You can find it at newegg.com. If you are looking for something a little cheaper, consider some of the slightly older cameras, running about 5-7megapixels.
If you can find the slightly older Canon 570, it should run closer to $100-130. It has better video than the new 590, and captures 7.1 megapixels.

If these cameras don't fit your needs, check out the camera finder at cnet.com. You can plug in features and price ranges to find something that will work for you.

Answer
Canon PowerShot A1300 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Image Stabilized Zoom 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 720p HD Video Recording Great camera for the price. Purchased the camera in May 2012 to shoot family events, friends ect. You could not ask for a better price vs performance camera. Very simple to use, excellent picture and video quality. I would suggest getting a cushioned camera case that includes the USB thumb drive reader for $10, the case is perfect for travel and storage when not in use. The USB reader is a great option when offloading the memory card.

any comments about the agfa photo optima 2338mt touch screen digital camera?

Q.

Answer
A link would have been nice. Here it is to help others out: http://dsc.agfaphotousa.com/en/agfaphoto/digicams/optimaseries/2338mtb/

It looks like a little P&S just like a hundred others, except it seems more expensive.

I wouldn't want it, since it only has 3x optical zoom and NO manual controls, so I'd be forever at the mercy of the camera. There is no room to improve or grow with such a camera, and nothing you can do if the light situation isn't quite perfect.

12 Megapixels in such a tiny sensor is too much, it causes noise/grain.

I don't really know anything about Agfa, but I'd stick with either Canon or Nikon.

There you go....... a nice big answer even though you never even said a single "please" or "thank you".

Canon 50D problems... From camera to computer?

Amanda H

I am a new owner of a Canon 50D and am experiencing some issues with it. My fiance's sisterinlaw did something with my settings, and I know she set it to RAW mode (the extension on my images is .CR2) but here is my issue:

On my camera, the images I take look extremely sharp and vibrant, but when I transfer them to my computer, they are dull and dark and full of noise. I am viewing the images in the regular Windows Photo viewer but have also tried Google Picasa and the same thing happens. (for example, I went to my fiance's firehouse yesterday and took some pictures of the fire engines and the red color looked rich and vibrant on my camera, but then transferred to my computer, the images were dark and dull and had a LOT of noise.)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I am really disappointed that these fire dept images did not turn out the way I had hoped!!!

Answer
The reason the RAW files don't look quite as bright and vibrant is because RAW files are unprocessed. It is also possible the camera was set to Neutral or Faithful in the picture styles menu which truly will make images look flat and full.

While I too once used Google Picasa to process my RAW files, I stopped because I just didn't like the way it handled images. The last version I used, had a weird habit of making it's own edits without any input from me which drove me nuts.

All of this aside, if you want your images to come out just as they did when the camera was set to JPEG, use the software that came with your camera (Digital Photo Professional). That software can read the Picture Style settings in your camera and produce JPG images identical to those that would come straight from the camera.

DPP is included for free with all Canon DSLRs. The current version is version 3.8 (PC) or 3.8.1 ((Mac). However, your 50D probably came with an earlier version but, it works the same way. The interface hasn't changed much in three years. I own both a 40D and a 7D so I've seen several different versions. You'll find documentation for the software included on the CD that came with your camera or you can download it by going to the support/downloads page for your camera at http://www.canoneos.com.

For what it's worth, I know quite a few professionals who use DPP for all their RAW image processing before editing photos in Photoshop. I am not a pro but, I use DPP anytime I need to process a large batch of RAW images for the web. I like it because the workflow for that process in DPP is much simpler than using Adobe Photoshop CS4. That said, I still use Photoshop when an image is special and I plan to produce a large print.

I need a new camera?!?

what type of camera should i get. i have about $250 to spend on it. =) thanks.

Answer
CANON SD 880

Before i start let me remind you to buy from reputable online dealers such as beachcamera.com, bhphoto, buydig, adorama, ritz camera, J&R, amazon, etc. NOT ebay. Look around those to get the best price. Just remember to check resellerratings.com and BBB.org to see the reputation of the vendor. There are a lot of scam artists online these days.

I would say you should go with canon point and shoots, and the best one is SD 880IS, it's around 250 dollars. REMEMBER, megapixels DON'T MATTER, it's a marketing tool. Any photographer will tell you megapixels have nothing to do with image quality.

If you want REALLY good zoom look at some of the prosumer point and shoot ones, they come with 20x zoom while compact point and shoots usually have 3-4X. When looking at zoom ONLY LOOK AT THE OPTICAL zoom. Digital zoom means NOTHING. If you want to take another picture immediately after, prosumer point and shoots and dslrs are better than compact camera. So if you shoot a lot of moving things or sports, you may require a prosumer point and shoot or a dslr. However most compact point and shoots these days can do fairly well on that too, but no where near as well as a dslr would.

Here are my general suggestions in each range of cameras, organized by 3 groups, compact point and shoots, prosumer point and shoots (basically higher end and bulkier point and shoots), and dSLRS.

Compact Point and shoot: Canon SD 880 IS (comes in gold and sliver), this is one of the best point and shoot cameras out so far and costs around $250 I believe.

Prosumer point and shoot: Sony HX1 or Canon G10 or Canon SX1IS. All three of these are excellent, you can compare them yourselves to see which one you like. These cameras offer a lot more manual control than point and shoots and have higher zooms. They are a bit more advanced than the typical compact point and shoot cameras. They'll also be more expensive, around 400-600.

dslr: These are your really serious cameras, with interchangable lenses. These will cost a lot! They have interchangable lenses and offer a lot of flexibility and creative control. When you buy these you buy a system and will build on it with life by purchasing more lenses as you go, flashes, tripods, etc etc. Just one of the lenses alone will cost more than your point and shoot will, so they aren't cheap. Here are my recommendations for dslrs.

Entry level: Nikon D40, Canon Rebel XS

Mid level dslr: Canon XSi or the New T1i

More professional models: Nikon D90 or nikon D300 or Canon EOS 40D, Canon EOS 50D

Full frame: these are the most expensive cameras in the world and will run around as much as a car for the whole system, so i won't recommend these cuz if you were in the market for these I'm sure you wouldn't have asked any questions here on yahoo answers, you'd be a professional taking photos for a living.

*NOTE: canon and nikon are the two biggest and best companies when it comes to cameras. Canon by far leads the way when it comes to point and shoots. In SLR, it's debatable but I prefer Nikon SLRs

**yea i know the last half doesn't apply to you, but just look at the compact point and shoot suggestion part.

EOS Rebel XSi or Digital Rebel XTi

i knw the first one is not release yet but who do you think is better? ...

and uhm if you have a professional camera and you think you would really recommend it.... PLS TELL ME WHAT YOUR USING! and give me some of your example pls! pls! thanks!
because i might get one next month or next next month[=

Answer
i have the canon rebel XT

if i had a choice, i would go with the XSi hands down over the XTi, and here's why

1) XSi uses the digic iii processing chip, the older XTi uses the older digic ii processing chip. faster chip means faster camera, better image and color processing, and lower noise "dust" and pixelation in the photo.

2) the XSi will use a 14-bit analog to digital processor. the XTi uses the older 12-bit A/D processor. 14 bits means more colors and tonality can be captured by the camera. this is the most important feature you will need in the camera.

http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/canon_eos_digital_rebel_xsi.html
"The inclusion of the 14-bit A/D process means the Rebel XSi camera records up to 16,384 colors per channel and allows the camera to produce images with finer and more accurate gradations of tones and colors. This is ideal for shooting outdoors where subtle hue changes in sky, water or foliage can really add to an image."
http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/canon_eos_digital_rebel_xsi.html

3) it uses the latest generation of sensor. the sensor is what registers light. sensor work effectively when light rays enter at exactly perpendicular to each pixel of the sensor. if the light enters at an angle, the light may spill over to adjacent pixels and cause chromatic aberrations and other anomalies. the problem really is in the lens, but what can one do about besides designing new lenses? engineers simply fix the problem at the sensor. so to overcome this problem, the latest digital sensors, especially the sensor used in the XSi, employs microlenses on each pixel of the sensor to focus light directly onto that pixel. this can result in less noise in an image. also note that cramming more pixels into a sensor (10mp camera on the XTi vs. 12mp on the XSi) but retaining the same size sensor will result in more noise at a certain level, so the use of microlenses was inevitable.

4) it has live view, which means that you can compose a photo without using the viewfinder in those situations that you cannot see through the viewfinder.

5) the XSi will have a 3" lcd screen vs. the 2.5" lcd screen of the XTi

see a comparison chart btwn XTi vs. XSi vs. 40D

this is my first investment at ebay that is why i want a good impression to the sellers. are they repurb? used? to you think its damge? or not? help please.

Answer
The A590 IS is a budget, point & shoot camera. For a budget model, it got fairly good reviews. It's best image quality is in good outdoor light.

In regards to add-on lenses...well, you actually can use a wide or tele converter, as well as a close-up lens with the A590 IS.
HOWEVER, these are not very good and will not gain you anything, so they really would be a waste of money. These are NOT like the normal interchangeable lenses you get with dSLR cameras.

You really should look at a better camera if you want to use a variety of different lenses and a dSLR is what you should be looking at, instead of a compact camera.

But, if a more advanced camera is not within your budget, then you should just look at a good quality compact (Canon) instead, and forget about using additional lenses for now...

digital camera.......?

what kind of camera does the jonas brothers use to record their videos? there camera works really well and i would like to get it for christmas but i don't know what it is called.

Answer
Not sure what camera they use, but have had great results with a low priced Canon Camcorder. Most cameras don't do as well as Camcorders at video, are much better at photos.

Canon is my favorite for cameras and camcorders. These cameras can take any kind of pictures if you know how.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen which is almost impossible to see in bright sun so you should try to find one that also has an optical view finder.

Check replacement battery prices when buying a new camera. Some Lithium batteries cost almost as much as the camera and may be only good for 200 shots between charges.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Focus with shutter button halfway down before taking pictures. In low light, focus on a lighted object at same distance as the subject. To prevent low-light, motion-blurred pictures; use flash "on" (not auto) up to 12 feet or place camera on a tripod or table and use self timer. Check camera shooting modes for special situations. Best light for photos is early morning or evening.
