where could i buy the Canon nb-5l battery ?

Thirdshopp

my Canon camera don't work, the battery is broken, could you help me ?

Answer
I only buy OEM batteries (in this case, Canon). I would purchase it from either my local camera shop OR B&H Photo.... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/425695-REG/Canon_1135B001_NB_5L_Lithium_Ion_Battery_3_7v.html

If you insist on buying a third party brand, then I would suggest that you buy the matching charger to go with it. A cheaper battery may not have the proper charging circuitry for the Canon charger to be able to determine the battery's condition.

IF I were to get a third party brand, the only one I would use is Pearstone (along with the Pearstone charger)....in other words, along with a $19.95 Pearstone NB-5L battery, I would get the $79.95 Pearstone NB-5L charger instead of spending $42.40 for the Canon battery.

WHERE TO GET CHEAP CANON CAMERA BATTERY CHARGER?

vixen

... that works well and will not mess up my camera battery or camera.

Just want to know best, reliable source.

don't want to just buy something that is imported
but will mess up camera, not worth it.
(Can mention BRAND or DISTRIBUTOR)
MODEL: CANON SD1300, thanks in advance :)

nikon D200 or canon EOS rebel XSi?

Shifty

im having a hard time deciding which one to get..which one is better? =P like, honestly.
oh, by the way, i am going to be a photographer when im older, so i want the one that would be best for photography. im somewhat of a beginner as well. ive been taking pictures for about 1 to 2 years.
ive done my fail share of research but im drawn between the two.
*fair

not fail

Answer
well here are the links:

CANON XSi: http://alatest.com/canon_eos_450d_digital_rebel_xsi/digital_slr_cameras/overview/po-34770331,248/

NIKON D200: http://alatest.com/nikon_d200/digital_slr_cameras/overview/po-640,248/

CANON EOS 40D: http://alatest.com/canon_eos_40d/digital_slr_cameras/overview/po-34940216,248/

XSi SCORES 98\100
D200 SCORES ONLY 87\100
40D SCORES 100\100

now u will understand the reason i have added 40D

u can read many reviews by experts as well as users now this feature makes alatet.com edge over others.

D200 is very disappointing camera image quality is very poor.

select b\w any two:
XSi or 40D.

HONESTLY, GO FOR 40D THOUGH LESS PIXELS BUT MY FRIEND THEIR ARE OTHER FACTORS ALSO.

!!!HOPE I HAVE HELPED U!!!

canon eos digital rebel xsi help!?

jbQB15

i have a canon eos digital rebel xsi camera. i plug it into my 2009 macbook pro with the usb cable that came with the camera. nothing shows up and i can't sync the photos onto my camera. the display of my camera says it is busy when i have it plugged in. how do i sync the photos if my computer doesn't respond when i plug my camera in?!?!

Answer
Your Macbook Pro has a built in SD reader. Have you tried inserting the camera's SD card into your Macbook? I have both the Macbook Pro 13" as well as the XSi. I've confirmed that the built in reader reads class 2, 4, and 6 SD cards. If you insist on plugging the camera directly to the Macbook's USB, make sure you install the driver that came with your camera or download it from Canon website.

What canon digital camera body do you recommend to fit my sigma zoom lenses?

red24

I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super.....I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.

Answer
Sure, you can buy something like the entry level Canon Rebel XSi or XS and will save buy buying only the body. If you want a wide angle lens, you will find the "kit" lens (18-55 mm IS) will give you a decent wide angle view.

Good Canon digital camera?

I already have the zoom and standard lens from my rebel g camera which I assume would be interchangeable with a digitial camera??? so am wondering what a good digital camera model would be (also Canon) that would give professional type results. I need high pixels so that I can submit photos to a professional stock photo site.

Answer
The previous poster's recommendation would be good if you did not need a digital SLR, but you will need one if you want to use those lenses. To answer your first question, you will be able to use them as long as they are EF mount lenses. You can tell by looking on the lens box most of the time.

Again, to use your lenses, you will need a digital SLR. Canon offers several high megapixel options at varying price points. Depending on your definition of "high megapixels", here are some recommendations. Let's just say you need 10 megapixels or higher.

There is a digital SLR available from Canon at every level (entry level, prosumer, and professional) that is 10 megapixels or higher.

10 megapixels: 400D ($800), 40D ($1200), 1DMarkIII ($4500)
12 megapixels: 5D ($2600)
16 megapixels: 1Ds Mark II ($7000)
22 megapixels: 1Ds Mark III ($8000, ships in October)

If these are all out of your price range, you may have to give up lens interchanging capability for a conventional digital point and shoot. The A640 (10mp) and Powershot G9 would be worth looking at, too.

Driver Downloads for Canon Digital IXUS 500 camera?

Della

I admit defeat with the official Canon site! Can anyone tell me where to find and download from my PC drivers for the above camera I am running on the Vista platform and the installation CD does not appear to have the correct drivers. Many thanks

Answer
The Canon website for this camera (S500) http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=3228modelid=9825 says that no Vista drivers are available for this camera, and infers that a driver for Vista may not be necessary.
To avoid download hassles, I suggest you buy a flash card reader that will accommodate the CF Card Type 1 storage card your camera uses and use that for your downloading. This is a fairly inexpensive accessory available from most stores that sell cameras and/or computers.

Comparison between Nikon L810 and Canon Powershot SX500?

Mom_to_3

Earlier this year, I decided to upgrade my Kodak Point-and-Shoot to a bridge camera. I wanted the SuperZoom, plus the ability to take action shots, shots in low light, and have more options as to the quality of the photos. I am a hobbiest, not a pro by any means. I primarily take action photos (sports), photos of my children, photos of my pets, and outdoor scenery.

I bought a Nikon Coolpix L810 (June 2012) and HATE IT. My shots are always blurry, whether I use a tripod or just hold the camera. Outdoors, the colors are rich and lush. Inside, the photos are grainy and too warm in tone. The zoom never wants to focus at full zoom; sometimes the shutter won't engage. I frequently miss shots because of those two reasons. The flash is either Auto or Off -- many times the flash doesn't even go off, even though I know I'm in a low light situation. I've tried different settings (all preset, no manual controls) and nothing seems to help.

I was looking at a Canon Powershot SX500 as a replacement. I hate to spend the money (my budget was around $200 when I bought the Nikon; this camera runs about $250) but I'm so unhappy with the Nikon (I have only owned Kodaks before this).

Can anyone help with what I should do here? Would the Canon be a better camera or would it be about the same and I'd be in the same boat that I am now? Thanks.

Coolpix L810 :http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Nikon---Coolpix-L810-16.1-Megapixel-Digital-Camera---Black/4861063.p?skuId=4861063&id=1218555766785

Powershot SX500: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon---PowerShot-SX500-16.0-Megapixel-Digital-Camera---Black/6364218.p?skuId=6364218&id=1218731589757
It's possible I misunderstood what the definition of what a "bridge camera" really was -- I don't remember the exact reason why I thought it was. I knew the price was too good to be true. I would like to know why lower megapixels result in better photos. Thanks for the information.

Answer
The trouble with buying a cheap camera is that you usually do have to expect some compromises in regards to image quality and performance. The Nikon L810 is...NOT a bridge camera. What made you think it was one? Most likely, because it looks like one. In reality it's just a very basic point and shoot camera with a telephoto zoom lens. It has NO manual controls (no aperture and/or shutter priority modes) so it's only point and shoot. Also, from all the image samples and reviews I've seen of it, image quality is far from impressive.

The SX500 IS is a compact camera with a 30X optical zoom lens, but it's not a bridge camera. It will definitely produce better quality images than the L810 (but not overly better). In it's favour...it does have full manual controls (aperture and shutter priority modes). This allows you to set your aperture and/or shutter speeds if you wish (all bridge cameras also have this). However, it has a very POOR battery life of only about 195 shots per full charge, so you'd need to charge frequently (before the start of each shooting day).

I recommend (if it's at all possible) that you stretch you budget a bit further if you want a better camera. For example, the Powershot SX50 HS or SX40 HS (both of these are bridge cameras).
They each have 12MP and the latest Digic 5 processor.
The SX500 IS has 16MP and the older, Digic 4 processor.
For better image quality, it's better to have less MP, not more...and that's why the SX50 HS and SX40 HS produce better image quality (the newer processor also adds to improved IQ).
Also to their advantage...BETTER battery life (315 shots, SX50 HS and 380 shots for the SX40 HS). They also have a fully articulated LCD screen that flips out and around and they also record movies in Full HD (1920 x 1080). The SX500 IS records movies in HD (1280 x 720).

The obvious downside to you...they cost more than your budget allows and they weigh a bit more.
Best Buy currently has the newer model SX50 HS on sale for $400 and the older model, SX40 HS for $430.

Walmart...is selling the SX50 HS for $400...BUT the SX40 HS is only $329. The SX500 IS is around $250. I think it's definitely worth paying an extra $80 to get a much better camera...
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Canon-PowerShot-SX40-HS-Black-12.1MP-Digital-Camera-w-35X-Optical-Zoom-with-8GB-SD-Card/20710453

But, if your budget won't stretch this far, then the SX500 IS should be just fine as long as you accept it's shortcomings and also take it's poor battery life into account. You would also need an SDHC memory card. You could use the one from your Nikon, as long as it's fast enough (Class 10 SDHC is best). You would also need to FORMAT it in your new camera (via the Menu).

Good luck...

Best choice point and shoot ($300-$450)?

I am looking for a good camera for indoor pictures. I have 3 little kids and take a million shots indoors, but the little $100 camera I have doesn't take decent pictures. I've looked into it a bit and have found a few with good reviews and decent picture quality. The few I've looked into:

Olympus TG-1iHS 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Optical Zoom and 3.0-inch LCD (Black) (2012 Model)
Nikon COOLPIX P310 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4.2x Zoom NIKKOR Glass Lens and Full HD 1080p Video
Nikon COOLPIX L810 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 26x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and 3-inch LCD (Red)
Fujifilm XF1/Blk 12MP Digital Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Black)
Olympus XZ-1 10 MP Digital Camera with f1.8 Lens and 3-Inch OLED Monitor (Black)
Canon PowerShot SX260 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Image Stabilized Zoom 25mm Wide-Angle Lens and 1080p Full-HD Video (Black)
Panasonic DMC-FZ150K 12.1 MP Digital Camera with CMOS Sensor and 24x Optical Zoom (Black)
Nikon COOLPIX P510 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 42x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and GPS Record Location (Black)

I was wondering if anyone had one of these or a decent knowledge of them and could advise me on which would be best for what I'm looking for. Or another suggestion of a camera that takes good indoor pictures. I work a lot in low light and with fast kids. I'm not expecting a miracle - point and shoot cameras can only do so much, but... Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
Nikon and canon make quality cameras. They will give you a camera that will last. Most of these cameras will brake easily, but canons and nikons won't. You can choose any from these two companies.

hellllllllllppp can any one find a link that wrks ,as when i download a file i cant find it on the pc ..its doing my head in now

Answer
How about this. Take your memory card out of the camera and copy the image files using a card reader. No need for drivers then and you will find that the files probably copy faster as well.

If your computer is too old to have come with a card reader, you can buy a USB 2.0 card reader for under $10

Cheap Digital Cameras?

Smoo

I'm about to buy a camera but I need a cheap one. No more than over 125 dollars, But i'd still like a good one that takes good pictures and isn't slow. I heard that cannons are good, but I've had cameras in the past that i'd spend $200 or more and they were all crappy and didn't take good pictures because they'd be slow and blurry. So if anyone knows what good but cheap cameras I can get, Please let me know.
P.S, I live in Southern ontario.

$198.18. I don't know anything about this web site, but it was the cheapest I could find. I'm a professional photographer, and I purchase a lot of equipment from bhphotovideo.com and have always been happy with the service and pricing. They have it for a little under a hundred more then the first address. Also, I am a professional and know a lot about cameras and research and take classes about digital equipment. You don't need the 8 megapixal. You don't need the 6 megapixal for that matter either. Unless you are planning on cropping in heavily on pictures and blowing them up huge. A million people who know less about cameras will tell you otherwise, including amateur camera supply shops, but go to any professional supplier and they will tell you what I told you.

if u will buy a digital camera wud it be sony or canon?

MANAR

im going to buy a camera and i want to know which is better
sony DSC T 700
canon SD 110
their prices are almost the same but i wonder which one is more efficient?

Answer
They are both great cameras. In terms of image quality, it is most likely that the Canon will have a slight edge; but with digital compact cameras, the differences are very small.

The Sony has 4GB built-in memory and some additional photo gallery features that would be useful if you like showing off your photos from the camera itself. Personally, this feature would do nothing for me, as I prefer to view the images on a larger screen and not actually on the camera itself.

The Canon will use SD memory (which is a standard and can be found very cheap) and the Sony uses MemoryStick (which is patented by Sony and while there are other brands of memory sticks available, in general memory stick costs more than SD).

Also, my laptop has an SD reader, so I don't have to plug my camera and turn it on to download images. I can just take the SD card out and put it in my computer... saving camera battery and the need to carry around a USB cable.

Which company makes the best digital cameras samsung, sony, nikon or canon?

I knw a lil about digital cameras but ive always had kodaks i want to try something different now megapixels is not the main the optical zoom is what u should worry about i jus dont know what company to go with. Samsung, sony, canon or nikon

Answer
Personally, I would go with Canon. They have been in the camera business for a long time now and they always have high marks for their products. I had one of their digital cameras and it performed as advertised with exceptional results. Panasonic is another company that produces good cameras. During to my recent research for a new camera, both they and Canon were often rank as the top 2 companies for their click and shoot camera line. For the more expensive DSLRs, no question Canon is tops.

which slr digital cameras are the best: nikon or canon.?

Isabel

if so which one nikon/canon

Answer
Both are the best in a couple of ways.

1) they have very large systems from fisheye to telephoto, macro to perspective control with cameras from entry level to professional
2) they both have a long history of producing quality, useful cameras for professionals

How to know which is the best for YOU?

Go into a camera store and see which camera fits your hands the best.

See which cameras menu is the easiest for you to use to make changes in ISO, camera resolution, white balance and EV changes.

Finally take a SD card with you and test each camera at their highest and lowest ISO as well as when using the white balance that matches the light in the store as well as with it in the "auto white balance" mode.

Once you get home and are able to see the results, you will know which camera is better for YOU, not us

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi?

meme

I have a question, I'm thinking about purchasing the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.
If anyone has had one or does own one, please let me know what you think of it and if you'd recommend it to me. I've seen a lot of GOOD reviews on it and I've seen a bunch of pictures by it. And I'm pretty impressed.

But I'm a bit confused. I have a major budget. And I'm confused about the lens?? Do the extra lens come with it, do I buy them separately and if I do, how many lens do I have to buy and how much do you think they would be? I really need to know this.

Basically, just please fill me in on what you know about this.
Everyone who helps, thank you so much. I appreciate it a lot! Thanks again :)
Wait, you can't record videos on it?? Whatttt?!

Answer
All Canon EOS digital cameras are great value for money. The XTi is at the cheaper end of the market but is definitely still a good buy if you aren't interested in any of the more advanced features in the more expensive models.

It is available in two different forms. One is described as 'kit' and will come with a lens which will be detailed in the description of the kit. Commonly the Rebel XTi (also known as a 500D) is sold with either a 18-55mm lens or a 18-200mm lens. The other option is 'body only' and only includes the camera with no lenses.

Since you're starting out and don't have any lenses, you'll be best off getting one of the kit versions.

The 18-55mm is a very basic lens though well matched to the camera. It offers wide angle shots up to slight 'telephoto' or zoomed in shots. You may feel let down by the quality of the lens compared to the build of the camera. In addition, it has quite a limited range, which may be unhelpful.
The 18-200 has a much more versatile range, but is correspondingly more expensive. It is also quite a bit bigger. It offers both wide angle and zoomed in shots. I use an 18-200mm lens as my 'everyday' lens since it offers a solution for most situations.

There is no need to immediately start buying additional lenses as each lens is normally suited to a particular role. Until you find out what kind of photographs you are taking, it is very difficult to recommend a particular lens or lenses.

There are hundreds of lenses available that will fit a Digital Rebel, manufactured by Canon, Sigma, Tamron and others and most will also fit the larger and more expensive Canon cameras. You should treat buying new lenses as an investment in your photography equipment, more so than a new camera 'body'.

For starting out, I suggest the Digital Rebel and 18-200mm lens, if you can afford the extra. Make sure you buy a memory card and then start taking pictures. You'll quickly start to learn what you like to photograph most and then you can start thinking about what new lenses might suit you.

Have you considered a dSLR

It can do 1920x1080 video at 24 fps
Also checkout the Canon EOS 1100D, minus part is it can only do 1280x720 @ 30 fps
And if videos are a priority with you, the Sony SLT-A37 is the clear winner with 1920x1080 video at 60 fps

Do some reading and familiarize yourself
A dSLR is the ultimate photography tool

Ultimate selection you need to make, go to your local camera stores and handle the ones you shortlist
The one which best fits your hand, best suits your style ... that's it !!

Good digital camera?

Q. I am looking for a digital camera with quick shutter speed, great zoom, and a good size screen. I also want it to be able to last for a long time, and for it to be small. I'm looking for a camera around $200 or less. Any suggestions?

Answer
canon a570

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

I want to buy a digital camera, but I am not sure what features to look for. My old camera has 5 megapixels so I definetly want something higher. I have a tight budget so I want something under $200. I saw two at best buy, but I don't know if they are good.

Kodak - EasyShare 8.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
Kodak - EasyShare 10.3-Megapixel Digital Camera

Thanks

Answer
canon sd1100

Good Luck

Canon EOS 450D Digital Rebel XSi or D5000 for a beginner photographer?

Ashraf Okd

btw who is better nikon or canon regarding
picture quality
user friendly

Answer
Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera
http://astore.amazon.com/webfront-20/detail/B001XURPQS

The Journey Continues. Canon's new EOS Rebel T1i is packed with features, both refined and new. In addition to its admirable performance with an all-new 15.1 Megapixel Canon CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coating, and compatibility with the EOS System of lenses and Speedlites, the EOS Rebel T1i adds remarkable Full HD video capture at resolutions up to 1920 x 1080. An HDMI port allows for quick connections to high definition TVs and monitors for easy viewing of your stills and video. The entire operation is simple and easy even if you are a beginner. You'll have uncompromised EOS Digital performance with power and flexibility right in the palm of your hand.

Review: I've had the T1i for about almost week now and after some extensive use, here are my thoughts:

1. 15.1 megapixel sensor. Yes, the high megapixel count is impressive, but keep in mind that, as you approach higher resolutions, you need to ensure the lens on the SLR can resolve that much detail. Sadly, the included 18-55mm IS lens is functional, but the high resolution really shows the so-so quality of the lens. Even if taken at the proper focus, pictures can appear soft with this kit lens. Shots I have taken with Canon EF-S 17-85mm and EF 70-200mm L lenses are crisp. I don't have any gripes on image quality. There are some issues with noise on the higher ISOs that don't seem to show up on the Nikon digitals, but overall, the quality is amazing for the price. Skin tones, textures, colors are reproduced very accurately.

2. Digic 4. The Digic 4 processor appears to process/save the 15 megapixel images in the same time (if not faster) than the Digic III processor on the XSi (even in RAW+Jpg mode). I have also noticed that at higher ISOs, the sensor and the Digic 4 produce images with less overall noise compared with its predecessors.

3. LCD. The 920,000 pixel LCD screen is large (3"), crisp, vibrant and fully visible even in bright sunlight. In comparison, the Canon XSi SLR (which the T1i replaces), also has a 3" LCD, but with 230,000 pixels. The viewing angle is great as well and the LCD can easily be seen nearly 180 degrees around.

5. Penta-mirror. That Canon is still using one in the T1i is disappointing. The penta-mirror viewfinder image is functional, but still noticeably darker than that of the penta-prism viewfinder in the Nikon D90 (which is the T1i's main competitor). I really would have preferred if Canon had kept the XSi's 12.2 megapixel sensor, forgone 1080p video altogether, and maybe upped the cost of the camera slightly to cover the production cost of using a penta-prism in the T1i. Honestly, unless you are massively cropping your images, or creating large photos, the difference between 12.2 and 15.1 megapixels really is negligible.

6. Size. This is the same body as the XSi, and therefore a bit on the smaller side compared to other digital SLRs. I have small hands, so the T1i is comfortable for me. If you have big hands, I can see this being a very difficult camera to use over an extended period of time. If you haven't handled a Canon XT, XTi or XSi, I would suggest you go to a store and hold the T1i yourself before purchasing it online. (I will upload a picture of the T1i in my hands to the user gallery for a size reference.)

7. HD Video. Yes, the Canon marketing department made a horrible marketing decision and pushed the T1i onto shelves limiting the 1080p recording to 20fps (frames per second). Recognize this as a marketing gimmick that allows them put a 1080p sticker on the camera box. The 1080p @ 20fps is fine most times, but seems a choppy if you have a lot of action in the frame or are panning quickly. The T1i's 720p video is recorded at 30fps and is clean, smooth, and sufficient for all but the most discerning consumers. One major criticism though is that the sound is recorded in mono, AND there is NO input for an external microphone.

Ultimately, you shouldn't let the HD recording limitations sway you one way or the other. This is an SLR camera -- not a video camera. The HD video is a great feature, but if you're looking for something primarily to take video, look elsewhere. There are much better, cheaper VIDEO cameras out there which can record true 1080p.

From an owners view, which camera is better, the Canon Digital Rebel 450D or the Canon EOS-40D!?

Melissa

It would be very helpful to me if you were to answer my question =) I'm currently decided whether or not to buy either of these cameras! i foyu could suggest any particular lense which work veyr well with these cameras then it owuld be much appreciated!

*Please, no sarcastic remarks, thanks (:
(Had a few in a previous questions, wasn't nice!)
Thanks for all the help so far, I am starting to make up my mind, just for an additional detail, I mainly shoot landscapes and wildlife! =)

Answer
Hi again! In terms of comparison, the Canon 40D is the superior camera. It has a faster shooting rate (6.5 fps vs. the 450D's 3 fps), a better sensor, a larger, more ergonomical grip, and it has more adjustment capabilities. I have the 30D and it was a step up from my 350D.

However, I have a bit of background about your situation (hehe ^_^). Since you're just starting out, I would recommend you give the 450D another look. It'll be cheaper, it has enough functions for you to tweak with, and it'll give pretty awesome images too. Once you get a little more experience and more lenses, then you can consider upgrading your camera body.

It's all about the lenses, not the body. :) In the camera world, the lenses are the investment, and the bodies the accessories.

As for lenses:

For your landscapes, again, I'd recommend the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. It's fast, it's sharp, and it's only $400 retail. If that's out of your budget, though, I'd stick with the kit lens for awhile. It'll give you decent images for less money. You'll want to be sure to buy digital-only lenses if you're going wide. Most lenses made today (the EF line) are meant for film and full-frame cameras. The 450D and 40D have smaller sensors and thus you have to factor in a conversion of 1.6x for all focal lengths.

Example: The lower the focal length, the wider your perspective. If you shot with the EF 17-40mm f/4L, since it's meant for a full-frame (larger sensor), it will actually give you 28-64mm coverage on your 450D's cropped sensor. 28mm isn't particularly wide for landscape shots. Thus, you'll have to buy from Canon's EF-S line, which are lenses made specifically for the smaller sensors of 450D and 40D.

The Tamron I mentioned is a digital-only lens, so it will give you the full 17-50mm coverage on your 450D/40D. You've seen the results using my 30D on my deviantart already, so that's my testament :)

For your wildlife shots, you're gonna need a long-range telephoto lens. These will cost a bit more, depending on your pickiness with quality.

If you're not a quality freak like I am, you can buy the Canon EF-S 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 IS, the Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM, or something of that nature. These lenses cover a really large zoom range, and since you're trying to get closer to your subject, it won't matter whether you have an EF or EF-S lens. An EF lens would actually give you more zoom reach because of the crop factor. These lenses cost roughly from $250-$350 USD.

Note: You can use EF and EF-S lenses on the 450D/40D, as well as many third-party lenses.

Now, for a more expensive alternative: the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L. The "L" lenses are Canon's finest, with their best glass and weatherproof construction. This lens has a popular zoom range covered, a large, constant aperture, and is very lightweight. It's good for getting close up shots at the zoo and blurring the background around the animals. :) However, it retails for about £412 on Amazon.uk. A fine investment if you're going serious about shooting, otherwise it's not a useful purchase.

Hope this helps! Good luck again!

and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!

Answer
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

I have recently bought Canon A430 Digital camera. I want to know how I can use it for auto shoot for set time.

Suppose other cameras have 5 sec, 10 sec delay then we can shoot our picture by just keeping the camera ready.

Thanks for your answers!

Answer
Your camera has a 2 or 10 sec self-timer.

It has no interval timer ... those are found usually on the high-end DSLR cameras.

I want to get a canon, but I don't understand the differences between these 2 series of canon cameras.

-- Also another question i have is...
Do the canon digital cameras do a beauty shot (make your face look flawless and pretty) type thing like the samsung cameras do?
help would be really appreciated :) thanks!

Answer
The Canon website supplies a lot of specs and information about their cameras, and even a comparison function. It is best if you go study them on there.

As to the "beauty shot", my advice is the same as for any and all effects done in-camera:

DON'T DO IT !!!

Imagine if you just happen to take the best photo you ever took - surely you would want to have it in all its glory, right?

Always set your camera to biggest size, best quality (and to color).

That way, you start with the best possible photo as your original.

Then you make a copy and edit it to your heart's content.
You have much better control over any editing on your computer, even something as simple as b&w will look MUCH better when it was processed properly instead of in camera.
You can do all sorts of things to it PLUS you get to keep your original.

why digital camera makes people look older?

burppyy

I have a new Canon digital camera Powershot Elph and always take pictures on automatic( the camera automatically decides what setting to pick) I took a pic of my dad who has 80% Grey hair and in the pic I took he looks like Santa! Why does the camera make peoples hair so white??? My dad looks 20 years older lol

Answer
It could be overexposure. You probably have an exposure compensation control you can use to adjust the exposure. Try -0.7 and see if that helps. Auto modes can only do so much if you have difficult lighting situations. Sometimes a little manual intervention is necessary.

I have a Canon Elura 70 digital video camera, and I can download video onto my computer hard drive. How would I capture a still image while viewing the video? I know it can be done; I just don't know how. Thanks.

Answer
Most software video players will allow you to capture a image/frame from the video. If your does not, you can still do so as follows:
- pause the video at the point that you want to capture the image
- press the "Print Scrn" key (assuming you are using a windows based PC)
- then open a graphics editing program
- and paste the image by pressing the keys "Ctrl" + "v"

I am interested in photography but I havent yet taken any good pictures recentl. Lately though I think that I should take some steps to improve on it.

What should I do to build up on my interest in photography? I have Canon Powershot S80 and my sister left me her EOS Rebel 2000 which I have no idea how to use since it requires real film in comparison of my basic knowledge only on operating digital cameras. Any ideas on how to get this baby up and running? [I have a specific question targetting this on on the photography forum]

Anyway, what steps would you suggest me to take in improving myself? Take classes? Join competitions? etc.. Please help me... :)

Answer
First of all, you have to have a passion for it in the first place. As long as you like something and put the time and effort into learning it, you will get better.

The first step you should take is getting into a class. I'm not sure how old you are but I started in my HS and took it all through college and now I work in the field.

You need to learn the basic skills or operating a film camera. That is a huge thing. I know digital is where it's at and that's how I shoot at the present time but it's never a bad thing to learn how to shoot film. It's a lot of fun to learn how to develop and print your own photographs.

BOOKS! you need them. you need a basic guide to photography which will include technique, composition, lighting.

It never hurts to enter a competition...but most of them cost money and if you don't feel you have the skill to compete it's a waste of money. get to reading some books and play with your camera. take it everywhere you go. take pictures of your family, friends, pets, neighbors, animals, nature, cityscapes. anything you see!

go to the bookstore and look through the history of photography as well. look up different photographers on the internet. the more you see, the better you will get. you just need the proper inspiration and there is no better way than to look at other people's art.

check out some of my photography too!

What kind of camera should I buy?

Jessica

I am an art history major and I travel quite a bit. I will be backpacking through Europe soon and would like a reasonably priced Digital SLR camera. I will be taking pictures in museums as well as outdoors.

What do you suggest?

Answer
If you are on a budget, checkout the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS which is a full-featured ELPH compact digital camera selling for around $200. It's highly rated by Consumer Reports (September 09 issue). When set to "P," "vivid" and 320X video format, the images are striking.

On the high end, check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which has a very long zoom lense and also produces HD quality videos. It sells for around $500 at amazon.com. Again, the Leica zoom lense if the very best. Here's more info on it:

If you are really on a budget and want the best quality for the money, check out the P&S Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 [with a Leica lense and Live View] which has more features than most pro DSLRs that require auxiliary lenses not even equal to the single initial full-range lense that comes with the FZ28. It is reviewed at:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/camera-reviews/panasonic/lumix-dmc-fz28/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz28-review-5.html

It's an all-in-one 10.1 megapixel digital camera which includes (i) built-in image stabilization and Live Action viewer; (ii) HD720 quality video [Quicktime] which permits zooming while videoing outdoor fashion shows, action sports; (iii) a 18x zoom [27 - 486 mm (35mm equiv.)] "Leica" lense for "nature" and concert photography; (iv) up to 0.39 inch macro option; (v) up to 6400 ASA; (vi) takes up to 380 pictures per 120 min. battery charge; (vii) has a "burst speed" of 13 fps; and sells new for $464 at amazon.com. in the U.S.

Here's an actual handheld picture of the moon:

I'm taking my first photography course in a few weeks and I was advised to buy a canon camera. What is the BEST one for a beginner like me?

Answer
It is not usually about 'which' digital camera physique you own as it really is so much as which lens you've afforded oneself. My guidance is to conserve up all of the extra funds you'll be able to to obtain the much better lenses prior to acquiring the more costly digital camera bodies like a Canon 5dii or even the Canon 7d, unless of course you are really seeking to do video clip appropriate off the bat at the same time. If you are really targeted on working on photography, skip the video clip feature and go with a DSLR that doesn't have it. The Canon 5d's are that ideal physique, but if you need to have something more reasonably priced, there's often the Canon 40d and 50d. Very good lucktravelindependent

Dr. Sam is right, even with professional cameras, one size does not fit all. It depends on if you're doing studio work or shooting sports, etc. And although pros are as gear crazy as the rest of us, they buy cameras as a business investment - they won't get the latest & greatest unless that's what they absolutely need to get the job done.
Still, if I had to name just one camera, it would be the Canon 1Ds Mk ll: metal body, 17 megapixels, 3 frames per second, $7000. Reserve another $7000 for lenses.
The 1Ds Mk ll is in stock here, in case you want to place an order (or just look at the specs): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=354004&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
Runners up: the Nikon D2Xs (12 megapixels, 8 frames per second, $4250) and the new Canon 1D Mk lll (10 megapixels, 10 frames per second, $4500).

What's better; A Digital SLR camera or a Bridge Camera?

Hi.
I need a camera because I want to learn more about photography. I do some photography and would like to expand my range. Here's some of my works... http://natters619.deviantart.com/gallery/33989366

Anyway, I wondered what sort of camera would be good for me. You're help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
It depends what you want.
Bridge cameras have their benefits like only needing one lens, smaller, lighter

But for quality and control a DSLR is the winner. if you want to go lower something like a canon 1100D or nikon D3100 (~£350-500)

Good midrange units are canon 600d or nikon d5100 (~£600)
Slightly higher sony alpha 77 or nikon d7000 (£750-900)

If you want a cheaper professional camera then canon 7D (superb, I have one), nikon D300s, pentax k7 (~£1000)

Or for the full frame pro stuff. Canon 5d mk iii, nikon d800 (£2500) ... Canon 1dx, nikon d4 (£4500)

I hoe this helps

Linda

Looking to buy a charger for LP-E5 batteries for my digital SLR Canon camera, should I go with the $40 Canon charger or a much cheaper $15 off-brand that also includes two extra batteries and a car adapter? Anyone got any experience with off-brand chargers?

Answer
I prefer to use OEM batteries and the OEM charger for them. The charger can read the battery and charge it accurately so that it does not overheat/overcharge to prevent swelling (and possibly becoming a fire hazard). The other nice thing about using OEM batteries is that if it damages your camera, repairs are handled by the manufacturer.

Some people don't have a problem with the third party batteries, a fellow photog wasn't so lucky. He had a battery leak in his camera (as a result of over charging), and spent several hundred to get the camera cleaned and repaired. The battery company only offered to send him a replacement battery.

On vacation, put my memory card into a different camera and it says there are no photos?

random

I have a Canon Digital Rebel Xsi and had a memory card packed with photos in it. The camera's battery ran out and I forgot to put the charger, so I put my card in my dad's Nikon D40x and it says there are no photos on the card?! I'm on an old computer with no memory card slot so I can't check on there.

Any idea what happened? Is it because the camera doesn't recognize pics from another camera, or are the photos gone? Can they be recovered?

Answer
That is right. Don't worry, the photos are still there, but you cannot expect different cameras to "see" image files shot with another camera model, especially a different brand.

For under $10 you can buy a USB 2.0 card reader and copy your images to any computer you like.

You will notice that the image files your camera produces are called IMG_1234 and your dad's are called DSC_1234

While they are both JPEG files, the different naming conventions preclude your dad's camera from seeing them

You can move the slider to adjust the saturation to overly saturate it and use the brightness/contrast slider to adjust those two things in order to make it too dark and have too much contrast. Once the picture looks as terrible as the ones you posted you're all set.

What Canon compact digital camera should I buy -- either A4000 or A2600?

Troy Jones

Which should I buy? ...it is between the Canon A4000 IS or A2600?

Technical Benefit Differences of A4000 IS the A2600 lacks I see:
1. More zoom range (8x vs.5x)
2. Optical Image Stabilization/Intelligent Image Stabilization
3. Better Macro Capability (1 cm vs. 3 cm)

Technical Benefit Differences of A2600 the A4000 lacks I see:
1. Longer Battery Life (ECO Mode -- up to 30% more pictures per battery charge)
2. Wider Aperture (f/2.8 vs. f/3.0)
3. Lower Light Exposure Sensitivity in Low Light Mode only (ISO 6400 vs. ISO 1600)
4. Digital Image Stabilization -- Yes, an added feature the A4000 lacks; but greatly inferior to Optical Image Stabilization/Intelligent Image Stabilization

The physical size, dimensions, and weight differences, are very minor to me; both relatively small. Other than these differences above, they are technically the same compact camera. The A2600 is this years (2013) new Canon compact model release -- highest model of the newest of the A-series. The A4000 IS is last years (2012) Canon compact model release -- overall highest still for this years A-series lineup.

This is just an opinion question, but if you could justify your answers as to why YOU would pick one over the other with reason, that would be great! I am stumped. I am torn between these two. Thanks!
Let me add...

If you ask what kind of pictures I generally take, I take all kinds like landscapes, portraits, close-ups, night scenes, action, etc.. Yes, a general use camera.

No need to enumerate what you shoot. It is expected for all cameras to do them all anyway.

Judging from those spec differences, I'd go for the A2600. Battery life would be a huge issue and it would be nice to see Canon actually address the shortness of it once and for all. Wider apertures allow for longer shooting pleasure after the sun has gone down. It also helps blur backgrounds more easily for closeup portraits.

Although I personally avoid going higher than ISO 1600, it's good to know there's more in case I really need it. Image stabilization would be great though for making razor sharp shots but it's not really that important as I am confident my hands can still hold on steadily.
