I have a problem. My family bought a camera made by "OLYMPUS" that was 10mgp, 3x optical zoom, 24 shooting modes with a 2.5" LCD. But even if it's 10mgp, the image quality isn't that sharp all the time, unless it zooms really up close. Compared to my other friends, with cameras like 7 or 8 mgp, made by other brands, their image quality is a bit better. I was thinking of buying a 7.1 mgp camera made by "CANON"

What are the key features to help me look for a great digital camera with sharp image quality? Does the brand matter?
The canon camera is 3x and 4x optical zoom. Something like that. Is that alright?

Answer
You know the difference between a 160x320 pic and a 1200x1600 pic, right? Well, the more megapixels, the bigger the picture... Also, the more megapixels, the more expensive the optic chip and the more expensive the camera.

How many megapixels you need depends on what you want to use your pics for... If you want to make large high quality prints, the more megapixels the better... If you're only going to use it to put your pics on the web, 4 or 5 megapixels is excessive... For normal size prints, 7 or 8 megapixels is plenty.

Except! If you like to crop your pictures... That is cutting of the sides, to get a better composition for example... In that case, the more megapixels the better also counts...

What is most important is the quality of the optic chip, closely followed by the quality of the lens... Optical zoom is also very important if you want to use your zoom (and who doesn't?)... The more optical zoom, the bigger the lens, the more expensive the lens, or, the more optical zoom, the smaller the optical chip, the poorer the optical chip...

The better (and newer) the optical chip, the more features it has, like for instance face recognition that the latest chips have... It helps your camera set itself for the best possible shot in all kinds of conditions...

All this is pretty confusing and hard to figure out if you're not a pro... That's why it's good to read good reviews on camera's before you buy them...

Canon and Nikon have been pro-camera-brands for decades and are used by all the pro's... Their easy-to-use consumer camera's are excellent (I just bought a Canon PowerShot 570 IS myself yesterday)... You can't really go wrong with a Canon or a Nikon... Make VERY sure you get the latest model though, or get a VERY good price on an older model!

-edit-

well, the more the better, the better the more expensive... It's ok but not great, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend... Are you looking at an Ixus or a PowerShot? PowerShot would be the better choice if you want best quality and one with a Digic III chip is a better choice than a Digic II chip... It's the next generation... The more expensive ones have IS... Image Stabilization, that helps make sharp shots

What is a Great User Friendly Professional Digital Camera for a beginner?

B & L

I am looking into camera's to do what I have dreamed of doing for years. I see wonderful idea's for pictures that my tourist like digital camera just doesn't capture. I need something very User Friendly (am willing to learn for camera's that are border line into slight difficulty). It would also be a plus If I could print the pictures at home on my printer. I am not looking for anything that requires a dark room. I appreciate any advice and info I could get.

Answer
If you want a good "Professional" Beginners camera check out a Cannon EOS. i have had my EOS digital rebel for a little over a year now and its wonderful. the pictures from my Older model 6.1megapixel are amazing. the new 8 mega pixel has to be great. The EOS Digital Rebel is a nice entry level digital SLR. You can control you shutter speed for nice low light shots or blurred movement shots. You can control you aperture value for nice professional looking portraits. The EOS comes with your standard Zoom 18-55mm lens. But you can buy additional wide angle and telephoto lenses for this unit that will work on all Canon EOS models. so if you want to upgrade your camera later you donât have to spend tons of cash buying more lenses.

you can check out all of canons EOS cameras at: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=111

I have a digital photo I wanted printed, taken on an Canon EOS model camera. The print is for my Dad for his Birthday, and I want it too look good.

I have used the "digital printing services" in places like Jessops and Boots for other photos, however I find they often get the levels wrong, often too dark, or the colours are slighty out. So I'm looking for a professional printers who can print the photo as it looks.

Any help or suggestion on places to try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer
Look in your phone book and call shops offering custom printing. Tell them what you want. Take a reference print in and ask them to match it.

Which is the best digital Camera around £150?

Maddy

I am looking for the digital Camera which has nice zoom and nice picture and video quality. Thinking of Canon SX 210 which £149 from Jessops. But not sure is there any other camera which is better than this in this price range.Or I buy this camera. Confuse!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
âThe S2950 packs plenty of features, such as an electronic viewfinder, manual controls and large optical zoom which all combine to take pleasing pictures with ease. Noise performance above IS0400 isnât great and the zoom on videos is a let down. Overall the S2950 is a good introduction to compacts with large zooms or those who want an SLR style camera without the bulky size and bag of lenses all at a much lower price.â

I saw some photos from a Lumix digital camera taken in very low light (a bar). They were black and white, with almost an infrared feeling to them, and sharp (not that grainy).

Can anyone tell me which model might be able to do that, or what the feature is that allows this on a point and shoot?

Thanks.

Answer
I think you should go with Canon PowerShot SD1400IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera
* 14.1-megapixel resolution; 2.7-inch PureColor System LCD
* 28mm wide-angle lens; 4x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer
* 720p HD movie shooting capability plus HDMI output
* Smart AUTO intelligently selects from 22 predefined settings
* New scene modes such as Miniature Effect and Fisheye Effect;
* Low Light mode for dimly-lit situations.

What is the best digital camera out there?

Shroomy

I am looking for a really good digital camera that an amateur like myself can easily use.
I prefer something from Canon, Nikon, or Samsung, but I'm not too picky about the brand.
The price doesn't matter as long as it's not too expensive.
It needs to be something that doesn't die right away, and I would like it to be pretty small.

Thanks!

Answer

What digital camera should I get?

Q. I want to buy a digital camera, but I'm not sure which I should get.

I've heard good things about Canon but there are various types...

I'm looking for something decently prized, decent flash so that pics can be taken at night, decent zoom. I'm planning on using it to just take regular photos, nothing fancy. I also don't like cameras that take blurry pictures or pictures so sharp the people look scary.

Any suggestions?

Answer
There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The following link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ ...

What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...

Lots of great camera tips in these two links. http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

Check this camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital. This is more camera for the money.
Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor). You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price ($144), but be careful of the vendor.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

Answer
These are the best consumer rated cameras that fit your needs:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 Digital Camera--$366.00

The Panasonic DMC-ZS3 has a very good HD movie mode (1280 x 720) and allows you to use the optical zoom and optical image stabilization while recording. It also records in stereo sound and includes an HDMI output for viewing recordings on an HDTV. Aside from its excellent movie recording capabilities, this is a terrific all-around camera that does nearly everything well. Itâs extremely versatile because of its 12x optical zoom lens, which offers a range of 25-300mm, yet is small enough to fit into a pocket.
The DMC-ZS3 offers excellent image quality, fast performance, and a very impressive high-resolution 3.0â LCD display. It also features optical image stabilization, which is very effective for reducing blur and improving low-light shots. This camera is remarkably easy to use and produces great results when set to Intelligent Auto mode; the Face Detection technology also works very well. More experienced users will be frustrated by the lack of manual controls, but the DMC-ZS3 is still a camera that photo enthusiasts will love to use when they donât want to carry an SLR. If youâre seeking a compact ultra-zoom camera with an excellent movie mode, this one should be at the top of the list. You can find this cameras at Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-ZS3-Digital-Stabilized-Black/dp/B001QFZMCO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1249692371&sr=1-1

Canon PowerShot SD960--$260.00

This ultra-compact digital cameras lets you record high definition 720p (1280 x 720) video at 30 frames per second (fps) in the MOV (H.264) file format. HD video quality is very good, especially in good light. The SD960 IS includes a mini-HDMI connector so you can send the audio and video directly to your HDTV with a single cable. But if you want to play movies back directly on the camera, youâll appreciate the widescreen 2.8â LCD. Pair it with an 8GB or 16GB SDHC card to allow plenty of storage for recordings. The Canon 960 IS also performs well for still images. It features a 4x optical zoom lens with image stabilization and delivers good overall image quality for a pocket camera. If youâre looking for something a little cheaper, the Canon 780 IS also offers an impressive HD shooting movie mode and HDMI output. You can find this camera at Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD960IS-Stabilized-Silver/dp/B001SER46K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1249692459&sr=1-1

Canon PowerShot SD780 IS--$227.00

This camera is less expensive than the SD 960 IS but still features the same HD movie mode for recording HD 720p video at 30 fps. Itâs also equipped with a mini-HDMI connector for watching movies on an HDTV. Compared to the 960 IS, the 780 IS has a 3x optical zoom lens vs. 4x, 2.5â LCD vs. 2.8â widescreen LCD, and 3.2 maximum aperture vs. 2.8. The key advantages of the 960 IS compared to the 780 IS are 4x vs. 3x optical zoom lens. Image quality is not spectacular, but thatâs to be expected from a camera this small. You can find this camera at Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD780IS12-1-Stabilized-Black/dp/B001SER47Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1249692517&sr=1-1

Canon PowerShot SX200 IS--$322.00

The Powershot SX200 IS is an excellent ultrazoom camera that can record high quality HD 1280 x 720 (720p) video at 30 frames per second (fps) using the H.264 codec. It is compact for an ultrazoom camera and delivers very good image quality. It also supports HDMI output so you can connect it to an HDTV via a single cable and playback recorded HD video. This camera is also equipped with an impressive 12x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization. However, while the optical image stabilization works during the movie mode to effectively reduce âshakeâ, optical zoom cannot be used while recording. Additionally, this camera is very easy to use in automatic mode, but also offers full manual controls for advanced photographers. You can find this camera at Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SX200IS-Stabilized-Black/dp/B001SER45Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1249692578&sr=1-

What is a quality camera to buy?

Christmas

I want to be able to record for short films, such as videos for YouTube, and be able to take clear photos. I was considering the Canon EOS Rebel T3 Digital camera. It has to be able to withstand a little wear and tear or such. Any recommendations and why?

Answer
Digital Cameras are the ideal way to take advantage of all the features of digital photography, but you can also use a conventional film camera and convert your negatives to the digital domain. For instance, many photo processing outlet's offer the facility of transferring film negatives to CD. If you are not sure about taking the plunge into digital photography, converting film negatives is one way to discover the wonders of digital photography without having to invest in a new digital camera.

Digital photography is becoming more affordable all of the time, and the technology to make fabulous photos is well within the budget of most consumers. Add to this the money that you can save in development costs, you have an inexpensive practical solution to all of your photography requirements.
Sony Cyber Shot, Fuji Film Fine pix, Panasonic Lumix, Olympus & Samsung digital cameras is the best for in cheap rate you can visist http://goo.gl/SVpDl for best cameras, However, Digital Cameras offer so much more than conventional film cameras. Most models have a viewing screen which functions as a view finder as well as a picture viewer. This gives you the ability to view pictures that you have taken just moments before. If you then find that the picture is not to your liking you can just delete it and take another. If part of the photograph is good, crop it and save it back to the camera memory. Many Digital Cameras also have a facility whereby you can capture short bursts of video complete with audio soundtrack
When ever you purchase please check all this point like
Digital camera resolution
Optical zoom on digital cameras
Digital camera shutter delay
Batteries for your digital camera
Digital camera viewfinder
Digital camera size and weight
Manual focusing on digital cameras
Digital cameras with face detection
Digital camera ISO
Video and sound recording on digital cameras
Image stabilization (OIS)
Image quality on digital cameras
If you satisfy then only purchase
I hope my answer will solve your purpose.

What year did digital cameras start outselling film cameras?

canon digital camera kids on Canon Camera with 16 MP & OVF from Canon | Basic Point & Shoot ...

The Equali

I recently bought a film camera and was just curious - around what year did digital begin to outsell film?

I remember as a kid I had my first digital camera in 1999. I was the first at school to have one. Still, I think I mostly saw film being used until about maybe 2003.

So I assume somewhere around that time period? Early 2000's?

Answer
Youre about right.
Digital cameras started to push themselves on the market around the late 90s. just before 2000, 1997-1999. kodak was retrofitting canon dslrs so you could use the eos mount lenses.

A few years later canon released their own.

So the early 2000 seems about right. Before then, cameras were pretty much bought by serious amateurs and professionals only. Digital cameras really opened up a new market for the camera companies

I am looking for a digital camera for a hobbiest, i want to know the difference between the professional?

digital camera and just a point and shoot one. I am looking for under $500.00, anything anyone can suggest. I have looked over reviews I am NOT happy with my Kodak and wish to stay far away from them, i heard Fuji is really good anyone know?

Answer
I own a new Canon XTi and my wife owns a Fuji S5000 (a great digital for the money). The newer Fuji S series comes with so many up-dated features they are ture value for your money, the S9000 (or maybe S9100) is their top model for around $500. Check out the demos through www.bhphotovideo.com and you can also read other reviews and compare against other makes & models.

I have been doing business with B&H for more then 25 years, never a problem, a great Professional staff on hand.
Professional's use Digital SLRs with 10+MP, most kids/youth & Parents buy small point n shoot Digital Cameras. Hobbyist, etc, will pick a DSLR.

My 10 yo daughter has been shopping for her first digital camera. She likes the features on one made by Samsung and it is within her price range. We were told by a sales person that Kodak or Canon cameras are better because they have been making them longer. Is the technology really that different due to length of time manufacturing a product? Does Samsung make decent digital cameras for a beginner? Sorry for several questions, but they all relate to my main question. Thanks for helping us make a decision!!!

Hi, I really need help to buy a digital camera asap. All the online reviews have only further confused me.My requirements are:
1. 7-8 megapixel
2. 3-4 optical zoom
3. LCD screen
4. Good night pictures
5. different shoot modes
6. video (optional)
7. sharp, bright pictures
8. anti shake
9. face detection
10. as compact a body as possible.
I used to have a fancy for sony cybershot models but am told they are not as good as canon or nikon. fuji has also been recommended. A salesman recommended either the fuji F40 or the nikon S500 or the canon IXUS950. Can anyone help please? I have a budget of up to $500 but don't necessarily have to go all the way so long as I can get a good reliable compact camera that has all the latest features and gives me the best pictures.

Answer
I have a canon, and I love it! the only thing it doesn't have on your list is the IS (anti shake), but there are models that have it. The canon A series is really good, but the ELPHs have a lot of cool features, and are compact. I spent a little over $300 and that included, a canon SD1000, an extra battery, a carrying case, and a ScanDick UltraII 2 GB memory card. Look into it...

What are the advantages to using RAW format with my new camera?

Ian

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT 8 megapixel and can shoot in RAW format or Jpeg. What are some advantages to RAW format?

Answer
The adavantage of using the RAW format is that you do the digital processing on your PC rather than the camera.

Digital images almost always require some form of sharpening, colour correction etc, the PC can do a far better job of this than the camera.

Shooting in RAW also gives you some adjustment over exposure, in case you find that the LCD screen isn't entirely accurate.

The Rebel cameras have always had a reputation for producing soft or mushy JPEG files, so for me shooting in RAW is an absolute must.

Think of it as a safety net.

You will need to decode your files, the supplied software is ok for this, though I find photshop (& photoshop elements) RAW convertor easier to use, if it sounds like a lot of effort, don't worry, the auto decode setting is usually prety near the mark.

Which Canon digital camera model is the best for amateur photographers!?

Hez H

I would like to buy a Canon camera, not a big professional one, I would also like to know which model gives the best picture quality as well as practical one. Thanks.

Answer
unless you care about brand that much, I wouldn't recommend canon. You're paying more for brand name. Go to best buy and check out Nikon and Sony. Those two brands have Cameras equal and better quality that canon and they're not overpriced. Sony has more high quality compact cameras where Nikon has more larger ones and you can add different lenses if you would like. If you're really set on getting a canon, get the canon EOS 7d slr. It's a nice camera even though it's overpriced

Looking for the best compact (non-SLR) digital camera for shooting in low light without a flash. Needs to have a street price of less than $500. I've seen the Lumix DMC-LX5 which has an f2.0 lens. Is there anything comparable to this or better on the market? Thanks.

Answer
I would suggest the Canon S95. f/2 lens, pocketable, very good image quality, and it costs about $450-$470.

My Canon 50D digital camera viewfinder flashes white and black on white areas. This is on white areas in pictures. Can this be fixed? Is it a problem?

Answer
Yes you CAN turn it off, but perhaps you shouldn't - I find it rather useful to warn me about blown out areas.

P.S. Ever considered reading your manual?
There is a reason why you have it, and you would have known the answer to this question already if you had read it.
You will also learn a LOT of other stuff about your camera.

Help me to find a small digital camera with manual mode?

Where can i find digital cameras for wholesale price?

canon digital camera price on Canon Ixus 130 Price in India - Canon 130 Digicam Prices
canon digital camera price image

aix4200

Does any one know where i can purchase digital camera at disounted or wholesale price like canon. Is alibaba a good places there are many sellers located in China . Not feel comfortable buying anything outside of US to avoid scam/fraud.

Answer
Alibaba.com has a lot of sources but as for all other trade portals, having "Trust Pass" or Gold Membership does not guarantee that the seller is legitimate, although the chances of them being legitimate is fairly higher.

I have sources for the Digital Cameras, as I, too, source for consumer electronics. If you tell me what you're looking for, I might be able to help you find the product you want.

You can use Trade Portals to find the goods but you have to check all their details. DO NOT USE Western union as a form of payment unless you have a contact in that Country (example; China) who can help incase something goes wrong.

You may also post for help on Alibaba.com in the resources section. As for payment options, paypal is not common in China but there is something that's called Alipay.com, similar to paypal.

I also have a small list of Canon wholesalers in the US. I personally researched them, they have phone numbers and addresses. One of them is in New York. I can sell the list to you if you wish to get this information. Just send me a message.

what is the best digital camera out there?

Tina

I am planning to buy a camera this boxing day but wondering what is the different between t2 and t3 canon digital cameras. Pls give me an advice!

Answer
So your price range is 1,000 bucks or so? There is no T2, but there is a T2i. And Canon makes a T3 and T3i. The T2i is older, but apparently has slightly better image quality than the T3i (but it's not a noticeable difference). If you want the flippy-screen screen, get the T3i. Also consider the Nikon D3100 and D5100

Canon A590IS $134.99 at Best Buy or $116.30 at Amazon.com

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The following link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/

Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price, but be careful of the vendor.

Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

What is a good and lower priced digital camera to buy my 18 year old girlfriend?

Q. I am getting my girlfriend a digital camera for her birthday. I don't know a thing about them, and all of those websites with guides on which one to buy confuse me. I am searching for suggestions on specific models that would fit her fine, you know, a good social camera that won't break the bank.

Answer
I LOVE my Canon PowerShot A620. It's a 7.1 mp camera which takes awesome still shots, and just as awesome video. Great for home and everyday use. Easy to take on vacations and you can really take some artistic/creative photos too. A great all-around camera. My 35mm cameras are Canon too, and I still love and use it too. Sony makes good stuff also.

I had a Sony, and I gave that to my daughter, and purchase the Canon PowerShot A610 for my teenage son. The Canon A610 is exactly like my A620, but is a 5 mp digital camera. They both take GREAT pictures, but my favorite thing about the camera, is the vari-angle LCD screen. It is very easy to use, and a camera you can grow with.

Our A610/A620 has a setting, call "kids&pets". Typically you use these on the subjects that usually has a hard time keeping still. But I also use this setting when taking pictures of my soccer team during game play. I've also taken pictures of my kids, nieces and nephews jumping in the air, a la cheerleader jumps, with great results. Lag time is very, very, very minimal. (i.e. delay from pressing button to actual camera capturing the shot). This is just one of the many settings the camera has to offer and you can also manually set and program your own settings.

For ease of point and shoot, just choose the setting in which you're taking pictures of, (i.e. indoor, outdoor, portrait, fireworks, snow, beach, even and 'auto' [automatic]), and it'll adjust accordingly the proper exposure/settings. If you get more experience or for the experienced, you can manually choose exposure and settings like the old 35 mm.

I'm a bargain hunter. I purchased both NEW Canon this late spring 2006. My son's was under $200 and mine was $204. Just Google or Yahoo! Search any Canon model, and then see which merchant has the best price with those lowprice websites and order on-line. The price is waaaay better than going physically to the stores. If you need it right away, just upgrade the shipping. It's still cheaper than buying at the stores. No matter what model camera you're searching for, better prices are on-line.

I don't know if you'll find these models at the stores. They have newer models, the A630 (8mp) and the A640 (10mp), they boast more mega-pixels and ISO settings. But 5mp, more than suffices for most users. What I did was physically touched and feel the camera at the store, then go on-line to purchase.

Here is the link if you'd like to check out the specs on these Canon cameras: http://www.usa.canon.com
and go to 'products' to 'consumer products' to lead you to the cameras.

While you're searching on-line, you'll also find many reviews on these cameras. All with many positives things to say about the camera. You'll also find information on these cameras in Yahoo! Tech.

Hope this helps.

How to set up and use a Canon 650D digital camera?

Geb

How can I set up a new Canon 650D digital camera and what are suitable hardware and software that I could buy to use with the camera to view, edit and print my photographs.
Also explain how to set it up and maintain it.

Answer
Explain how to set up and maintain the Canon DSLR. Tells me that you bought a DSLR because everybody on this site told you too. Now you are faced with how to operate the darn thing. Simply put you bought more camera than you should have. Well the only thing is to make the best of it.

LETS ADDRESS YOUR QUESTIONS FIRST:
1.You should not get into editing beyond the simple cropping that processors offer for now, you have enough on your plate. I always use a store in my community for most of my pictures.. I do not go into their store except to "pick-up" my order. I use their web site to crop, & order my prints. I don't like putting my memory card into machines that have been abused by every "Tom, Dick & Harry!"
COMPUTER UPLOADING: buy & use a memory card reader ($6.00) instead of the camera to computer cord that drives people nuts.
2. Hardware; there is no hardware to buy now or ever. If you are referring to lenses, you do not have the experience now to go out and spend money on lenses that YOU really don't have a need for yet.
SOFTWARE: you should have connected your camera to your computer for any up dates to your camera, when you first got your camera. Make this a once a year project. When I connected my camera, the web site updated the cameras software so I could use the (then) new SDHC memory cards.
3. Set the camera up and maintain it. Starting backwards unless you use some other size battery you should get yourself about 3 sets of double "A" rechargeable batteries. The best brand are Eneloop. Buy together with a battery charger is the most economical way. If you have a different size battery buy two extras batteries, or at least one. Keep batteries charged , what ever size you use.
4. NECK STRAP- Yahoo does not like it when I use capitals all the time BUT this is perhaps the most important thing you can do. Always wear the neck strap. You drop this camera, be warned-dropping is NOT covered under warranty! The camera belongs in two places only, around your neck or in the gadget bag! Not carry by it's strap in your hands (like that blasted Nikon commercial implies!)
5.Auto setting, most people who own DLSR's recommend against using the "Auto" setting. But I recommend YOU use it until you become familiar with your camera.

I also recommend you invest in some easy to read books by Scot Kelby. He writes in a very easy to read style. I have a few because at first digital was foreign to me coming from a film environment.
The really nice thing about his books beyond the understanding factor is his web site. He often refers you to his web site to make visual presentations easier to understand! This is a real plus for me.
And while we are on the subject of reading you should check amazon for a good book on your model camera. Instruction books are often hard to read because it seems they do not employ "tech" writers anymore and you are left with what is left.

That is enough on your plate!

Good Luck

P.S. I just read "Jim A's" advise on the manual. He is correct but I take it one step further. I download and PRINT the manual, leaving out simple things I already know like putting batteries in the camera etc. I take the remaining pages to a large place like Staples and have them cut and spiral bind the rest. I carry this home made manual with me should I encounter a situation I am not familiar with.
All this editing and preparing also enhances my knowledge of the camera and I find I have less & less to refer to. And while I am on my soapbox, get your backside out there and shoot and shoot. Experience is the best teacher!
