How do i know if a digital camera is good?

canon digital camera sx150 on Canon Camera With 16 ..

I'm new to photography, i want to get a new digital camera, how do i differentiate if the digital camera is good? (good for focusing, good iso, good shutter speed, exposure?) the megapixels of the digital camera doesn't guarantees good ,sharp, focused photos from what i know.

Answer
If you are looking for a compact camera, the best ones are in the 10~12MegaPixel range, and about 4x to 7x zooms.

Too many people fall for huge super zoom lenses, such as 30x zooms. However their optical quality is not as good as the smaller zoom range that I recommend, and some of those super zooms are downright awful. So to get the best optical quality, 4x to 7x are usually the best lenses.

Also, too many people fall for overkill in MegaPixels. For a compact camera, 10Mp to 12Mp is ideal. If you go higher, then the camera's low light performance suffers, as well as the shutter lag is increased. All those extra pixels require more processing speed to process - which just slows down the camera. This is especially true for compact cameras as to keep them inexpensive, they have slow electronics.

The individual models I recommend are the Canon G12, Canon S100, Nikon P7100 or Nikon P310.

These are the best compact cameras in my view, and they all have manual exposure controls (as well as automatic), and all but the Nikon P310, they all have physically larger sensors than the average camera.

But if you are on a budget, the Canon SX130 is the best inexpensive camera in my view. They are getting harder to find, so a substitute would be the SX150 - but I think the performance of the SX130 is a bit better, as Canon has crossed the overkill threshold somewhat with the SX150.

Looking for an affordable digital camera with manual settings?

a

Im looking for a digital camera that has manual settings for things like appeture, shutter speed, and exposure. My price range is in the $100 area. Thanks so much :)

Answer
The best/cheapest camera with manual settings is the Nikon P310 which is currently around $150 or $175.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/842326-REG/Nikon_P310B_Coolpix_P300_Digital_Camera.html

The other option is the Canon SX150, around $110 - but it is AA powered, so allow $20 or so for a set of rechargeable batteries and charger. Also, the SX150 is not as good of a camera as the Nikon P310.

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Wide-Angle-Stabilized-3-0-Inch/dp/B005I6DVC0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372209694&sr=8-1&keywords=canon+sx150

I own both the Nikon P310 and the Canon SX130 (predecessor to the SX150). I would buy the Nikon P310.

I am looking to buy a digital camcorder. Which brand and model should I buy and not buy from?

Joash Tham

I will be using it to record family moments, short videos or events. Not for professional use. I'm really newb when it comes to this. Also the camera should have good quality recording. not some 240p video. And must be able to record long periods of time, preferably.

Answer
Hi Joash, and welcome back to Yahoo!Answers:

First, when asking a shopping-related question, it helps to give us a budget figure (in either US Dollars or whatever currency you are accustomed to dealing with in Singapore). Camcorder prices span a wide price range, from a don't-waste-your-money under-$100 USD model to many thousands of dollars pro-level gear.

For practical "family moments" style shooting, stick to a reliable and well-made brand like Sony, Canon, JVC, Panasonic, etc. Avoid no-name Asian import models, or now-cheap rubber-stamp brands like Polaroid or Vivitar (both of which used to represent quality USA brands; now the names are licensed to cheap import cameras). Kodak "PlaySport"/"PlayTouch" and Cisco "Flip" camcorders are all discontinued, although still available from dealers and online closeout sellers. I wouldn't buy one of these "orphaned" models, since customer support will disappear after a year or two.

Feel free to post an "Additional Details" update to your Question, using the Action Bar menu below your post (mouse-over the blue Edit menu "pencil icon"), and tell us how much you wish to spend. Then we can recommend specific models & brands in your price range.

Also, tell us what sort of computer (Mac or PC) you have or plan to use, if editing or uploading your videos will be important. Otherwise, if just showing your raw video clips on a home TV screen is all you want to do, having an HDMI or other easy A/V-out connection will be important.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

What is the problem when my camera's LCD viewer can't display images?

Karissa G

I have bought my IXUS 70 in Singapore last week. I started taking pictures using the memory card included and was successful. However, when I started taking pictures with another memory card, the LCD monitor turned blank- it only shows a black shadow (looks like it has been covered by a lens cover--in digital SLRs cases or the camera's appearing to be turned off). I can't take pictures as well since it only shows the black shadow. I have taken it to a service center here in the Philippines and they said that it is a factory defect, the sensor has a problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Or would you know if they will have the whole camera replaced since it is still covered by the 1 year warranty (the camera's still 1 week old). I'm worried that I would not get my money's worth. Please help. Thanks!

Answer
Act quickly and get it to a Canon factory warranty station. If it's a sensor defect, they'll most likely replace the camera, as the time and labor would be too much. Since the camera is new, turnaround time should be at a minimum, but the service center can best advise you about that.

Be sure you don't leave your memory card in the camera when you send it in.

I hope neither you nor the service center in the Philippines opened up the case of the camera, because if it shows signs of being tampered with, Canon may void the warranty.

i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?

Answer
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.
I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out.
They are...
SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x optical
SD900, 10MP, 3x optical
A630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in size
The two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor.
And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD.
Just make sure you use a fast SD card.

I need a good digital camera?

I live in Pakistan, now i need a good digital camera. I can buy a camera in range of 100 dollar to 120 dallar.
Camera shoul make good quality movies and still amages.
What about Canon Powershot A470?
Please help me, it is my time for digital camera.

Answer
All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

Canon A800 is the Cheapest Compact Digital Camera by Canon but from Nikon Coolpix which is the Cheapest?

zulfiqar

I am Living in Pakistan so plz just advise the Model name i will check the Price Localy.. Now i have to just decide weather to buy Canon A800 or from Nikon? Sony DSC S3000 i think is not good for learning photography?

Answer
The currently available, cheapest, Nikon camera is L23. However, if you are serious about photography, it can't help you. You have to go for a camera with manual controls (marked with P, A, S & M on mode dial). As far as I know, P300 may be the cheapest Nikon camera with manual controls.

I am planning to spend my holidays in the Philippines and spend some time island hopping in Palawan (Honda Bay Island). They said the boat ride usually takes more than an hour and could be sometimes rough. I was just wondering If there are waterproof camera bags I could buy to protect my camera in case of a water splash, or worst camera falling into the water (hopefully shallow water). Could you suggest anything, please.

Answer
The bags I use from Tamrac are water proof but, if you have invested some big bucks into your camera the best is a hard case from Pelican. Pelican cases are lockable, airline approved and floats (if the boat sinks), I use mine on open water, a brite yellow one (something I'll find in the dark).

Which Professional Video Camera Should i Buy?

canon digital camera in pakistan image

Wajahat A

i am not a professional film maker .... but i am in a situation where i have to record a TV show my self (with help of two friends) here in USA every week and send it to Pakistan to be aired on Television...basically i am suppose to Shoot few people sitting in park disssucing differnt issues, then we might ask people on street on their views ..its all out door shoots ...... and it should have a look and feel of a movie ... i have a high-end computer which i can use to eidt our videos , the aim is it should look professionally shot and to the standard of putting in on television...

i would like to know what is the best choice i have in terms on buying a camera under $4000.00 , which would give me a film like shooting and good voice? i know there are JVC , SONY , CANON miniDV HD camera's or P2 format ....people are talking about Canon XH A1 or Sony HVR-V1U or JVC Pro GY-HD200u , what else would i need other then the camera , in order to shoot this kind of footage, appricate any help

Answer
You have an excellent budget, so you have many excellent choices. I will give you my opinion. First, I will talk about formats. Assuming you want to go HD, the first and most common format is HDV. HDV utilizes miniDV tapes; its a very easy format to use, and also very practical. In the consumer division of camcorders, HDV is the obvious choice (for me at least) for 2 main reasons: 1) HDV is much less compressed than the AVCHD camcorders (hard drive, mini DVD, and SD flash media) and (2) HDV is compatible with all the best editing systems, while AVCHD is limited to a small number of programs.

Unfortunately, we cannot say the same about professional camcorders. Sure, HDV is much less compressed than consumer level hard disk formats, but it is still very compressed (too compressed for many professional filmmakers). Therefore, you may get slightly sharper footage on pro hard disk formats such as Panasonic's P2 card, or Sony's XDCAM. In that case, you may want to go with the Panasonic HVX200 or the Sony PMW-EX1. However, I still have problems with P2 and XDCAM. My major concern is that their complex media cards do not hold much (you may get 25 minutes on one XD SxS Card). Also, buying a replacement card isn't cheap, making these camcorders a real pain. HDV, on the other hand is much more practical, with miniDV cassettes only costing several bucks- even for the pro HD cassettes. In conclusion, I believe Hard disk formats such as the SxS card and the P2 card have a future in the digital filmmaking world, but right now, HDV is still more practical.

Now that I have discussed the pros and cons of formats, I will talk about camcorders. The best camcorder for you is probably the CANON XH-A1 for around $3,300. It is unexpectedly easy to use, very well built, and packed with features that make the XH-A1 rival camcorders much more expensive. It is an extremely popular model, and is regarded as one of the best camcorders, for its great balance between quality and value. My only problem with it is its lack of a REAL 24p mode (24p changes the native 30 frames per second, standard on digital camcorders to the 24 fps of film- it also gives the footage a softer, almost pleasingly grainy look that indie filmmakers desire). Instead, the XH-A1 has a feature called 24f, in which Canon claims to be identical to 24p. I have not put the 24f through its paces, so I cannot make that argument either way; I expect it to be almost, if not just as good. Either way, the XH-A1 may be your best choice.

Another camcorder that often fails to get the recognition it deserves is the JVC GY-HD200U for a bit over $4,000. It has all the elements of a good pro camcorder, but I was especially impressed with its picture quality. I usually don't go for JVC, but I believe this camcorder may have the best picture quality in the prosumer range, next to the Sony EX1 and Canon XL-H1. Another feature that sets the HD200U apart from most camcorders in its price range, is that it accepts interchangeable lenses.

Regarding your final question about additional accessories, I would look into a Shotgun Mic, a Pro Tripod with a Fluid Head (for smooth pans, etc), and a powerful editing system.
SHOTGUNS: Daniel K's suggestion to get an XLR mic is a good one. I recommend looking into mics such as the Sennheiser ME66 or the Rode NTG1 and NTG2- they are extremely popular among pros. They may seem a bit pricy, but in my opinion, a good mic is always worth the investment- a good mic will never become obsolete so they will still be just as good ten, even twenty years from now. Generally speaking, the quality of a mic is directly related to its price.

TRIPOD: Of course, when handling thousands of dollars in equipment, it may be a good idea to invest in a reliable tripod, especially one that supports your camcorder's weight. Also, look for one that has a fluid head for flawlessly smooth pans that gives you that professional look. Here is a link to a decent tripod that is a particularly good deal as it comes with attachable dolly legs- they aren't the best for dollys, but at least its a start.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/243272-REG/Davis_Sanford_PROVISTA7518_Pro_Vista_Tripod_with.html#goto_itemInfo

EDITING PROGRAM. With a professional 3-chip HD camcorder, you will probably be unsatified with consumer editing tools in cheapo programs. I found that consumer programs also give you much worse quality, so a good editing system may be just as important as the camcorder. In the professional world, the most-used systems is the Final Cut Pro by Apple (Macs only), and the Avid Media Composer (for Macs and PCs). In my opinion, the Avid systems are still a lot better...and if you are a student you can get them at an EXCELLENT value via student discounts. Its a $4,000 value at a discount of $295 at www.journeyed.com

Hope that helps!! Best of luck on you journey into the world of filmmaking!!!

What digital camera should I get?

Q. I want to buy a digital camera, but I'm not sure which I should get.

I've heard good things about Canon but there are various types...

I'm looking for something decently prized, decent flash so that pics can be taken at night, decent zoom. I'm planning on using it to just take regular photos, nothing fancy. I also don't like cameras that take blurry pictures or pictures so sharp the people look scary.

Any suggestions?

Answer
There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The following link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ ...

What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...

Check this camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital. This is more camera for the money.
Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor). You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price ($144), but be careful of the vendor.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

How do I make my digital canon camera record for 24 hours?

christian

How do I make my digital canon camera record for 24 hours straight?

Answer
OK, for one, it depends on which camera you have.

Are you talking about video or still? Because if you're talking video, you can't, (ok, I shouldn't say can't, but if it's a "camera" and not a "camcorder", you can't and it would be a push, if not impossible, even then! )

That said, if you want to take a long exposure, and have a camera capable of it, you might be able to use the bulb setting. It keeps your lens open until you release it.

Although Mike has the right answer, his link is spam, don't bother clicking it!

But do re-edit, and tell us what camera you are using.

What are the specifications I should focus on before purchasing a digital camera Incase of Sony /Nikon/Canon?

best digital camera nikon or canon image

Praveen

I would like to purchase new digital camera Sony / Nikon / Canon; so could you please suggest me what are the key aspects I should inspect before I purchase like lenses type, optical zoom, Digital zoom and etc?

Answer
If you are looking for an adjustable camera, then it is important to choose a camera that can use the most variety of lenses and bodies .... this will give you the most flexibitliy as you build a system.

If you are looking for a P&S camera, then the Nikon and Canon cameras use the most common memory card .. the SD.

Look for a camera that has at least a 3x optical zoom (forget any reference to digital zoom .. ), has at least a 6MP sensor, and either a viewfinder or SI feature (both is better). If you an afford a camera that uses the state of the art Li-ion battery, so much the better.

What would be best for me? A cheaper DSLR or a good digital camera?

ananda

I have one Nikon film camera with 38-90mm zoom lense and a sony hc42 handycam (miniDV, 1 MP still). Now planning to by a digital still camera. I can afford around $500, but looking for a cheaper one. What should be best for me? A low end digital SLR (from Kodak etc) or a good digital camera (~5MP Nikon/Canon)? I use camera for my personal use (family foto, travel pic etc).

Answer
From an image quality standpoint- the better digicams are really quite close to a DSLR.
The industry is fiercely competitive these days, and the types of cameras seem to be narrowed down to:

Compact. Typically 3x zoom lenses and 6-10Mp. the best of the bunch are the canon SD700IS, SD800IS, Fuji F30, Panasonic FX series. Maybe the Sony N2- as it's got a cool touch screen. Personally- I like the Fuji F20 or F30 the best for it's unsurpassed low light/high ISO capability that rivals a DSLR.

SuperZoom. Typically 12x zoom cameras with really small sensors. The best are the Panasonic FZ50, FX30, FZ7, the Sony H2, H5, the Canon S3IS.. Great for getting close to the action, bird watching and general fun. A bit bulkier and not great in low light. Or- if you want better low light performance-the Fuji S6000/S6500fd and S9500.

As for entry level DSLRs. Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax all make excellent products. But- you'll definately be above $500 and even the small ones are a lot to lug around in comparison.

There are some better digicams, such as the Canon G7, but frankly, the image quality is so close- you're really paying for features more than image quality.

Realize that taking photos of small children, indoors- is possibly one of the most challenging things to photograph and where something like a $1200 Canon 30D (DSLR) which has excellent low light capability and shoots 5 fps might be worth the cost. Hmmm- you might need to spring another $500 for a great lens.

What is the best camera to take pictures like this?

Breanna Su

http://i55.tinypic.com/mt838m.jpg

http://i56.tinypic.com/n568oi.jpg

and shoot video

Price range $800.00

Answer
Repeat this 100 times: "It isn't the camera its the photographer."

Unless you have some basic knowledge about photography - exposure, composition, light - don't expect an $800.00 DSLR to perform any better than a $100.00 point & shoot digicam.

However, if you're willing to devote the time to actually learning about photography, first by reading & studying the Owner's Manual for the camera and then by taking classes or utilizing the sites I list then I'd suggest a serious look at the Sony SLT A55.

The Sony SLT A55 features Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology which allows for full-time continuous auto focus whether you're shooting still pictures or 1080/60i HD video. This technology also allows shooting at 10fps (frames per second). The SLT A55 also gives you 2D or 3D Sweep Panorama and in-camera HDR photography. It also has a built-in GPS.

The SLT A55 uses the legacy Minolta Maxxum "A" lens mount which means you have access to all those previously owned Maxxum AF lenses made since 1985. The SLT A55 has a focusing motor in the camera body so any "A" mount auto focus lens ever made will auto focus on it as they should. The A55 also has Sony's version of Image Stabilization in the camera body so any lens used becomes, in effect, an IS lens.

Here are some reviews of the A55:

At B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com - the Sony SLT A55 w/18-55mm zoom lens is shown for $799.99 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Offer ends 7-9-2011. Free USA shipping.

These sites will help you learn about photography:

I'd be rather leery of taking advice from someone suggesting a camera brand when they can't even spell the brand name correctly. Its spelled "Canon" when discussing camera brands and "cannon" when discussing weapons of war.

Is it necessary to install the software that comes with a digital camera?

canon digital camera xti on ... camera with out 0 42x fisheye lens camera position full wide angle all
canon digital camera xti image

Justin P

I just purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XTi camera that came with 2 software CDs. One is listed as the EOS Digital Solution Disc and it has applications such as Zoom BrowserEX 5.7 and EOS Utility 1.1 on it.

The other is EOS Digital Software Instruction Manual

I've already connected the camera to a friends computer and the Windows XP recoginzed the new hardware. The pictures transfred over fine without insalling any additional software.

Are the 2 discs that came with the camera necessary to install?

Answer
i think u have to install the software comes with ur camera if u want to use the timelapse recording feature.
i believe the rebel xti has this feature in which u can programme ur camera after connecting it to the pc to shoot a several frames over a period of time or with a certain time intervals between frames.
u have to read the manual to understand this feature.
other than that i don't think u need to install anything else .....
good luck

Anyone know anything about the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera?

Parsnip

Anyone know anything about the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera? I've had a DSLR camera in the past that didn't give me the quality of photos that I was looking for and was told that this is a great camera. Can anyone who owns this camera tell me what it's like? Is it easy to use? And more importantly do you know of a website or store that sells them at a good price?

Answer
It is a good entry level DSLR.
I would not rule out the Nikon D40/D60 series of cameras either.

Camera equipment is generally not discounted much, so any place that has camera gear for more than $100-200 under MSRP is probably a rip-off.

I work with and trust the following:
www.bhphotovideo.com
www.beachcamera.com
www.adorama.com

If you find other places online, check out their rating at:
www.resellerratings.com

If they have anything less than an 8, I'd stay away from them. If they are not even listed, i'd stay away from them.

What is an error 99 for Canon Rebel xt?

canon digital camera error 99 on ... can be found in: Accessories | Batteries | For Canon Digital Cameras
canon digital camera error 99 image

Bailey

I've heard it is a shutter problem, but my situation seems a little different than the others I've seen. The camera works fine when the flash is off, but when its on an error 99 message appears and it wont take a picture at all. Does anyone know what the problem could be, or what it would cost to fix it?

Answer
It seems error 99 is somewhat generic and difficult to pinpoint. Heres some of what I found with a âcanon rebel xt error 99â Google search

The guy at tech support listened and then told me that the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lensâ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them.
Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but itâs doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.
I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked (so far anyway). Iâve shot numerous pictures with each lens and have not gotten a single error 99 message. One would think sites like dpreview.comwould have this but I never found it there. Iâm psyched, I feel like I have a whole new camera now.

http://www.richardsnotes.org/archives/2005/04/29/50mm-lens-contact-points/

Conclusion of tests
After doing these simple tests, I have come to the conclusion that ever since the ERR 99 message popped up, the flash would not synch properly, the most shots I could after removing then replacing the battery was 5, and that the lens or the CF card don't seem to be causing the problem. I'm guessing it has something to do with the firmware or the electronics. Or I'm one of the few lucky ones to own a totally defective Rebel XT.

http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14349

Try turning the camera off, removing the storage card and reinserting it (or insert a different card altogehter.) Error 99 is a general communications error which is - in my experience - sometimes triggered by the storage medium, not the body/lens connection.

Maybe reload the firmware. I`m not a computer expert, but sounds corrupt somewhere in the memory

My Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel is overexposing severely in sunlight. What is wrong?

Houynhnm

Doesn't have the kit lens, but a Sigma 28-300 AF lens. Worked flawlessly till about a month ago, when it started giving Error 99. I googled and learned about some body/lens compatibility issues. One of the suggested solutions was to clean lens contacts, which I did. But now it's overexposing severely in the sun, in several modes. I don't have reliable Canon service where I live, so am rather desperate to find out what could be wrong, and what I could do. Thank you for your sharing.

Answer
Check your settings. Are you on Manual, Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority... if you set it on Program (if it's not on it already) you will probably find this will fix it. If not.... what white balance are you set on? What ISO? In direct sunlight you probably want to be around ISO 200 or 400... if you're around 1000 or higher this could cause your camera to over expose your images.

I think I've seen that same error at some point and I want to say it was caused by somehow "unlocking" the lens from the mount so the contacts weren't securely touching.

3rd party lenses like Sigma, Tamron, etc. have to reverse engineer their lenses to try to get them to work with Canon and Nikon lenses and they don't always work the way they are supposed to, but usually do.

Good luck!

Answer
Canon PowerShot A3000IS is a good camera for snapshots.

Surprisingly the camera is really good considering the price. It's a small compact camera and very convenient.

Get it now from here at a discount and save more money:

What is the best camera to take pictures on a night out?

Molly

I need a new cam which will mostly be used for taking pictures on nights out. Every camera I've had so far has produced blurry, poor photos so I really want to get it right this time! I also need it for taking pics of family etc but my main thing is nights out (people moving around, low lighting etc) Don't have a lot of money to spend so good value also! Help?!?

Answer
All inexpensive cameras are pretty bad in low light. But there is one feature that really helps: image stabilization. That means the lens moves to correct camera shake. Make sure your camera has optical IS (NOT digital IS, which is junk) and use the flash, and you should get decent results.

The Canon A3300 IS is a good value. It has optical IS and HD video, and Adorama has it for $99.

don't tell me to go to Canon's website to download "drivers" and such. This is VERY problematic, and it's probably not what I need, anyway. I am talking about the program that is on the CD that comes with the camera. This allows you to upload pictures and modify them. I'm not talking about some software patches or firmware upgrades. I need the whole camera program.
Before I waste half my day calling Canon, would they be able to sell me a replacement disk?

Answer
Don't bother, just download Picasa (google it, it's a free download).

If it does my EOS 350D, it should suit you.

Can the Canon PowerShot A495 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera film good quality videos for youtube?

canon digital camera 10.0 megapixel on ... March 2010 Flickr Upload Canon PowerShot A1000 IS Digital Camera
canon digital camera 10.0 megapixel image

Raphael Ho

im thinking about getting the Canon PowerShot A495 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera for my birthday and i want it to know if it works with windows moviemaker(im not converting all that file stuff) and is it good quality for youtube videos?( i make videos of beyblade battles on youtube.)

Answer
Most of Canon's newer model cameras, particularly the ones that record movies in HD or Full HD, only record movies in Quicktime MOV (H.264). This file type is NOT compatible with Windows Movie Maker.

However, the A495, being the entry level model it is, does actually record movies in the AVI format...which is fully compatible with Movie Maker.

Movies are only recorded in a standard VGA resolution of 640x480...not HD or Full HD.

Here is an excerpt from the official press release...
"In addition to high-quality images, both the PowerShot A495 and the PowerShot A490 are able to capture video at VGA resolution with sound. Both also feature a YouTube⢠upload function in the supplied software package â providing the capacity to log-in and upload directly from the camera to the Internet via a computer. This enables video to be shared online for friends to see within minutes of being captured."

What digital camera has all of these features?

F!L!I!P!

Im getting ready to buy my 3rd digital camera... but i seem to be a bit mor picky with this one... I want a camera that is about or more 8 megapixels, high resolution, video mode, zoom lens, and i want to be able to see what i am taking a picture of at night through the screen... and on top of that i would love it if it were touchscreen... can anyone help me by letting me know what cameras can possibly have all of these features.. thanks!

Answer
There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example and search for your camera of choice at the upper left.

This may not be an SLR, but Canon seems to make the best cameras for the money. Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $149.99 at Best Buy store yesterday.
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen which is almost impossible to see in bright sun so you should try to find one that also has an optical view finder.

Check replacement battery prices when buying a new camera. Some Lithium batteries cost almost as much as the camera and may be only good for 200 shots between charges.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance.

Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

I bought a Canon digital camera 4 years ago and it broke down 1 month ago. to repair it will cost me $200. is it normal?

Canon is a good company, but nothing lasts forever, you have to realize it. If you cherish your camera you can repair it but better get another one, I would advise another Canon as you already have the software and the gadget for it.

How to set up and use a Canon 650D digital camera?

Geb

How can I set up a new Canon 650D digital camera and what are suitable hardware and software that I could buy to use with the camera to view, edit and print my photographs.
Also explain how to set it up and maintain it.

Answer
Explain how to set up and maintain the Canon DSLR. Tells me that you bought a DSLR because everybody on this site told you too. Now you are faced with how to operate the darn thing. Simply put you bought more camera than you should have. Well the only thing is to make the best of it.

LETS ADDRESS YOUR QUESTIONS FIRST:
1.You should not get into editing beyond the simple cropping that processors offer for now, you have enough on your plate. I always use a store in my community for most of my pictures.. I do not go into their store except to "pick-up" my order. I use their web site to crop, & order my prints. I don't like putting my memory card into machines that have been abused by every "Tom, Dick & Harry!"
COMPUTER UPLOADING: buy & use a memory card reader ($6.00) instead of the camera to computer cord that drives people nuts.
2. Hardware; there is no hardware to buy now or ever. If you are referring to lenses, you do not have the experience now to go out and spend money on lenses that YOU really don't have a need for yet.
SOFTWARE: you should have connected your camera to your computer for any up dates to your camera, when you first got your camera. Make this a once a year project. When I connected my camera, the web site updated the cameras software so I could use the (then) new SDHC memory cards.
3. Set the camera up and maintain it. Starting backwards unless you use some other size battery you should get yourself about 3 sets of double "A" rechargeable batteries. The best brand are Eneloop. Buy together with a battery charger is the most economical way. If you have a different size battery buy two extras batteries, or at least one. Keep batteries charged , what ever size you use.
4. NECK STRAP- Yahoo does not like it when I use capitals all the time BUT this is perhaps the most important thing you can do. Always wear the neck strap. You drop this camera, be warned-dropping is NOT covered under warranty! The camera belongs in two places only, around your neck or in the gadget bag! Not carry by it's strap in your hands (like that blasted Nikon commercial implies!)
5.Auto setting, most people who own DLSR's recommend against using the "Auto" setting. But I recommend YOU use it until you become familiar with your camera.

I also recommend you invest in some easy to read books by Scot Kelby. He writes in a very easy to read style. I have a few because at first digital was foreign to me coming from a film environment.
The really nice thing about his books beyond the understanding factor is his web site. He often refers you to his web site to make visual presentations easier to understand! This is a real plus for me.
And while we are on the subject of reading you should check amazon for a good book on your model camera. Instruction books are often hard to read because it seems they do not employ "tech" writers anymore and you are left with what is left.

That is enough on your plate!

Good Luck

P.S. I just read "Jim A's" advise on the manual. He is correct but I take it one step further. I download and PRINT the manual, leaving out simple things I already know like putting batteries in the camera etc. I take the remaining pages to a large place like Staples and have them cut and spiral bind the rest. I carry this home made manual with me should I encounter a situation I am not familiar with.
All this editing and preparing also enhances my knowledge of the camera and I find I have less & less to refer to. And while I am on my soapbox, get your backside out there and shoot and shoot. Experience is the best teacher!

How could I possibly protect my Canon EOS 40D DSLR camera from water splash while on a boat trip?

best buy canon camera bag image

bad day
