Where can I find a good digital photo printers in London?

mouse_spin

I have a digital photo I wanted printed, taken on an Canon EOS model camera. The print is for my Dad for his Birthday, and I want it too look good.

I have used the "digital printing services" in places like Jessops and Boots for other photos, however I find they often get the levels wrong, often too dark, or the colours are slighty out. So I'm looking for a professional printers who can print the photo as it looks.

Any help or suggestion on places to try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer
Look in your phone book and call shops offering custom printing. Tell them what you want. Take a reference print in and ask them to match it.

Which is the best digital Camera around £150?

Maddy

I am looking for the digital Camera which has nice zoom and nice picture and video quality. Thinking of Canon SX 210 which £149 from Jessops. But not sure is there any other camera which is better than this in this price range.Or I buy this camera. Confuse!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
âThe S2950 packs plenty of features, such as an electronic viewfinder, manual controls and large optical zoom which all combine to take pleasing pictures with ease. Noise performance above IS0400 isnât great and the zoom on videos is a let down. Overall the S2950 is a good introduction to compacts with large zooms or those who want an SLR style camera without the bulky size and bag of lenses all at a much lower price.â

Is a Canon EOS Rebel XSi worth getting?

I've heard the good with the bad in reviews with this camera, but I'm still not %100 sure if I should get it or not. If I do get it, I'll be buying the Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera Kit from the Apple store, to make sure that I get the lens with the body!

Does anyone have any experiences with this product that they can share?

Answer
I did not see an XSi camera for sale on the Apple store site ... there is a SX1 which is NOT a DSLR with interchangeable lenses.

At $600 it is NOT a bargain.

If you really want a canon DSLR, look on Amazon for the best prices and look for any of the current Rebel variations.

At this time an actual Canon DSLR can be purchased with a lens which can use all the interchangeable lenses made buy Canon for under $500.

Should I get a canon rebel xsi or something else?

I need to get a cool camera for a christmas present but i don't know if the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi 12.2-Megapixel Digital is worth the money or if I can find something better for about the same price range. I am not much into cameras but the person intended for is so I don't want to get something crappy if im going to spend so much money on it.

Thanks!

Answer
You might also consider a Nikon D90. It's in a similar price range to the XSi and has movie capabilities. Both are well-reviewed. BTW, I agree with the other poster that the Lumix is not really equivalent to a dSLR.

How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?

nicolerao8

I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.
I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Answer
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it.

This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.

Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom.

I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

Answer
you probably don't need drivers if you are running XP, the cds that came with the camera is the canon zoom browser software that can also be downloaded from the canon website

Where can I get a download of the driver for a Canon ZR40 Digital Video Camera??

Cantor Deb

I lost the cd rom, and can't find the driver online anywhere! The camera is not that old! Does anyone have a copy?

Answer
You can't find it anywhere because USB for DV transfer is not supported. What is supported is firewire transfer by connecting a firewire cable to the DV port of your miniDV tape camcorder to the firewire port of your computer.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an expansion slot so you can add a firewire port.

Firewire400, IEEE1394a, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

A USB-Firewire converter/adapter will not work.

Should I buy a better lens or just use Photoshop?

I want to devote more time to my hobby of picture taking and I have a fairly decent camera (Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital SLR) with the standard lens but I don't know if I need a better lens to get even better pictures of will Photoshop just do the trick? I want to take pictures of people/events and add a little spice to the pictures. Is that done with Photoshop or really good lenses?

Answer
What kind of effect are you looking for exactly? If you have given us a link to a photo, it would've been easier for us to decide for you.

Professional portrait photographers mainly rely on their skill and good lighting to get their desired effect. Photoshop is only used to touch up minor blemishes on the model such as acne, stray hairs, etc. Landscape photographers use considerably more editing in many of their photos, often drastically boosting saturation, sharpening, and creating many 'layer masks' to adjust specific parts of the photo.

Photoshop can only do so much to improve your photos. Your main emphasis shouldn't be trying to correct a 'bad' photo later on the computer, but to try to get it as perfect as possible beforehand on the camera.

I dont think either an extra lens or photoshop would truly benefit you at the moment. A few classes on photography would certainly will, though. Hold off buying new accessories/software until you know how every single setting on your camera works.

What are important camera accessories?

frankbob42

I'm just starting out in the field of photography and I'm a complete amateur. While I've decided on a good camera (the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi) I'm a bit unsure about where to go from here. I'm wondering what all I'd need to buy along with the camera itself. A carrying case, lenses, memory card...? I'm not sure how to put this simply, but what is necessary to buy alongside the camera itself?
If you can help me that would be great!

Answer
I suggest buying nothing more in the way of equipment than a good camera bag and a good quality UV filter for now. Of course you'll need memory cards but that's all you should buy at this time.

The first thing you must do is actually learn to use your camera. This is done by READING & STUDYING the Owner's Manual for your XSi. You must know what all of the Shooting Modes are and when and why to use them - or not use them. You have to know what they do.

Photographer and author David Busch ( http://www.dbusch.com/ ) has written a Guide for your camera. It will supplement the Owner's Manual so add it to your list.

Bryan Peterson's books "Understanding Exposure" & "Understanding Shutter Speed" are also recommended.

The book "Digital SLR Handbook" by John Freeman will also help you.

Spend the next 6 months using your camera and the lens that comes with it. This allows you to find out what you like to photograph and then you can begin thinking about what you additional equipment you need to do your type of photography.

If you run out today and buy a 70-200mm zoom and later decide that what you really need is a macro lens and a wide-angle lens then you've wasted your money on the zoom.

If you buy a wide-angle lens and a macro lens and later decide you love sports and wildlife photography and need a 70-300mm zoom again you wasted your money on those two lenses.

Again, all I suggest buying right away is a UV filter to protect the front element of your lens. Always buy quality - Heliopan, Tiffen, Singh-Ray, B+W, Hoya. Cheap no-name filters are a waste of money.

Maybe in a couple of months you can add a tripod to your equipment. Here again you want to buy quality. Manfrotto, Gittos, Slik, Velbon are all good brands.

Your goals for now are to learn to use your camera and learn how to make a good picture.

What digital camera drains the least battery power?

canon digital camera viewfinder on Canon PowerShot A640 | Digital Camera Review | Camera
canon digital camera viewfinder image

malk e

I am looking for a new digital camera. My only requirement is that the camera does not kill your batteries so quickly. I have a Samsung 5.0, that stupid camera is terrible. I take like 6 pics, and the batteries are dead. Then I had to recharge them again. I hate walking around with chargers and with 3 pairs of different batteries. And if I use regular batteries, they died even sooner

Answer
Large LCD viewfinders eat batteries. It seems nice to have a big LCD monitor, but hey are power hungry. You will have to do what you can to turn the thing off as soon as you don't need it any longer. Set it to shut off at the shortest possible innterval after you take the picture. Set it so that it doesn't not display unless you tap the shutter button to wake it up. Even this will not go a long way towards conserving batteries.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for being a 10 MP camera.

The A620 was rated about twice as good as any as far a battery life. I hope the A630 and A640 are just as good. Use Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries and you will be happy with battery life.

At least if you have trouble with running down batteries, you can go into any store and buy some "AA" alkaline batteries and get back to business. This won't be a problem, though.

A digital camera for an experienced photographer with poor eyesight?

lulu6

I want to get a digital camera -- ideally an SLR -- for someone who is good with electronics but has deteriorating vision. He used to take beautiful film photographs and feels that a point-and-shoot is too amateurish. I imagine the viewfinder should be big, and the menu reasonably simple. He needs an all-purpose lens, but doesn't need the ability to change lenses. Thanks!

Answer
Your friend is a candidate for one of the few DSLR models with LiveView, where the lcd screen is used for composing the photo. This is similar to what he's used to with his compact point-and-shoot digital camera.

The least expensive model with this feature would be the Olympus EVOLT E-410. There are other models in the Olympus line, also with Live View.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541555959.htm

After that, he might consider the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/542391115.htm

Nikon offers the new D300, with this same feature.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/SLR1164.htm

The final test is to have him handle each brand of camera. The feel, controls, and menus are especially important for all, but especially for a photographer with deteriorating sight.

There are also SLR-like cameras from Sony, Canon, Fuji, and Nikon. Here's two examples.

Look at the Olympus E-20N.
http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/olympus-e-20n-digital/4505-6501_7-7251079.html?tag=img
Or the Sony R-1.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscr1/

Here's a site with very, very thorough reviews for you to look over.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/default.asp?view=alpha

I hope this is helpful for you and your friend. Please ask, if you have any other questions.

And the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18.

What are the points to check when buying a digital camera? What are the usual problems one faces with such cameras?

Is going for Canon or Nikon a safe bet?

Answer
What gives a camera its picture quality?

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual.

I have a kodak digital camera but I was thinking about buying a new one. I need one that is small and thin, not too small or too thin. I also need a big screen. If you have a camera that you recommend works best please tell me. All answers are appreciated.

Answer
There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example.

This may not be an SLR, but Canon seems to make the best cameras for the money. Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $134.99 at Best Buy or $116.30 at Amazon.com

unless you care about brand that much, I wouldn't recommend canon. You're paying more for brand name. Go to best buy and check out Nikon and Sony. Those two brands have Cameras equal and better quality that canon and they're not overpriced. Sony has more high quality compact cameras where Nikon has more larger ones and you can add different lenses if you would like. If you're really set on getting a canon, get the canon EOS 7d slr. It's a nice camera even though it's overpriced

i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?

Answer
In the SD line, see http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_sd630%2Ccanon_sd700is%2Ccanon_sd800is%2Ccanon_sd900&show=all for newer models.

The SD900 is 10 MP instead of 6 MP AND it has a much larger sensor, so I would imagine the images are superior. This is probably what allows it to go to ISO 1600 while the SD630 stops at ISO 800.

The SD700-IS and SD800-IS have image stabilization.

Should I buy an HD camcorder or a digital camera with HD video?

Hawkinator

My friends and I want to make short films and I was look for any suggestions on any good cameras that can shoot in HD. I noticed a lot of people I know have been filming with a Canon 7D, but way too expensive. I'm looking to spend anything around $200. Iwas thinking of getting a Kodak z950. I really want to get a digital camera because the last camcorder I had was too noisy and would be noticable in our movies. Any good suggestions? I need this asap.

Answer
If you want to take high quality videos (1080p), then you need a camcorder, not just a digital camera. I have used both, trust me, there is a difference. Unless quality isn't an issue, go for the camcorder.

A noisy camcorder would be from either 1: the tape being written on. or 2: poorly put together lenses that are loud as they focus and zoom. I can't say I've ever had a noisy camcorder problem though.

Here is what I use: Kodak Zi8
It only costs $179 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002J9G60S?ie=UTF8&tag=robert0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002J9G60S

I actually used the Sony HDR-CX110 HD (cost me $600) camcorder for a while but then returned when the quality was barely better than my little Kodak Zi8.

The Kodak Zi8 films in 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps (the second one is great for sports or filming while snowboarding).

For short films is a must have over the flip since it has an external mic input and the flip does not. This ALONE makes the Kodak Zi8 worth it. Also, it's only $179 on Amazon. Search YouTube for videos made with the Kodak Zi8 if you want to see the quality for yourself.

What kind of camera should I get for Hawaii?

LouEvil

I'm going to Hawaii for my honeymoon, and I want to get a new camera before I go. I don't need anything top of the line, but I want to get something that is going to capture the best images of the scenery and the activities we are going to do. Also, I think I'd prefer something that's less bulky to carry around.

Any suggestions?

Answer
I can strongly recommend the Panasonic DMC-TZ5 or the new DMC-ZS3 (DMC-TZ7 in Europe)... while I have a bunch of film and digital SLRs, I think this makes a fabulous small/pocket camera.

In particular, you're going to see all kinds of stuff in a place like Hawaii... you need a camera with a good lens and lots of range: wide angle for close quarters or "sweeping natural vista" type shots, good telephoto for close ups. The TZ5 offers a 10:1 zoom ratio, which was rarely found in pocketable cameras until fairly recently (more of a big camera and camcorder thing).

These cameras use SD/SDHC cards... I get about 2000 photos at top quality on an 8GB SDHC card, that's likely to be enough for any trip. The lens is above average for this kind of camera, the optical image stabilization really helps eliminate any shakiness, and the electronics and auto exposure downright uncanny.

In fact, I had bought my wife a lower cost Panasonic a year before I bought my TZ5... mainly because it was one of the only small cameras with optical image stabilization. She shoots photos of her 2nd grade class every year. She used to borrow an old Canon (Pro90IS) for this, and got decent results, though I usually had to correct each photo in Photoshop to render them all pretty much the same, in terms of lighting and exposure. First year with the Panny, and they were virtually all perfect. So when I decided to get a pocket camera, I looked first at Panasonic, despite years of being primarily a Canon and Nikon guy (Panasonic is rather new to the still camera world, but they're a major name in video cameras, pro and consumer, and they've teamed up with Germany's legendary Leica for their optics).

I'm not sure if this is small enough for you.. it certainly fits a pocket, but doesn't get lost in there (it's not the smallest available digital camera for sure, but one of the smallest with a wide zoom, and the new one offers even more zoom range and a somewhat thinner body). I really wouldn't take any other small camera, if I were going to Hawaii.

Have fun!!

I want to open my own photography business but I dont know much about professional digital cameras. I want the newest, best picture taking and I dnt want to haveto get a new one in a year. Do you think can teach myself about the camera or should I take a class?
okay I will be opening a wedding and portrait photography business. allof my photographs will be taken outside or at parties.

Answer

Start here! There are galleries, forums, clubs, and a variety of courses you can take to inprove your skills. I recommend a coursetrack, and more, for what you want to do.

Learn how to use your camera, how to edit photos, composition, and there's even courses on the business end. You will definitely wnat to be business savvy. You will have to get a business license and tax ID. You want your skills to be worthy of the fee you charge. You do not want to be sued for misrepresenting your skills...

An AWESOME camera that competes well with cameras twice the price is the Canon EOS 40D.

Good luck and have FUN!!! (Don't forget to get LOTS of PRACTICE!) ; )

What is the best digital camera for shooting high ISO images?

EuroElectr

I'm shopping for a digital camera that can capture excellent images at high ISO speeds.

Answer
It depends on how high you want the ISO to go and how much money you want to spend. BE CAUTIOUS when you see claims of 1600-3200 ISO for several cameras. Read the specifications carefully and you will see that these high ISO images are smaller files - much smaller - than you might expect. My SD900 still gives me the full 10 MP at "HI-AUTO" ISO, but many do not.

My 1600 images are useful, but not wonderful. You can find samples at any review site. In the point and shoot range, the Fuji F-series seem to have teh best reputation for low light shooting, so check them out.

Digital SLR's will do much better at high ISO's than P&S cameras. You did not specify what kind of camera you need or how much you can spend, but I'd bet the Canon EOS 5D is the high ISO king, because of the full-sized sensor.

I've been quite satisfied with my Nikon D200's ISO 1600 and you can even push it to 3200 if necessary. Naturally, the image starts to degrade, but please check sample images and see what you think. Here's an ISO 3200 shot. http://dpreview-img.fotki.com/gallery/nikond200_samples/originals/dsd_0245.jpg

There are many high ISO shots on this page. http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/nikond200_samples/

You can find the Canon EOS 5D samples here: http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/canoneos5d_samples/ but they seem to max out at ISO 1600.

How well does the Canon S5 IS work in low light/portrait situations?

best canon digital camera for low light on Canon PowerShot ELPH 530 10.1MP Digital Camera Review | SUKASUKAKULA
best canon digital camera for low light image

Amanda V

I'm looking to upgrade my digital camera, but I'm not quite ready to make the investment in a DSLR. Out of the cameras I've seen the Canon S5 IS seems like an affordable alternative that will provide me the freedom I'd like. My consistent problem with digital cameras has been that I tend to photograph in low light/high-activity situations, (concerts, plays, late night shenanigans) and I'm always left with obscene digital grain, and unrecognizable blur. Does the Canon S5 IS have the ability to photograph well in these conditions?

Answer
The IS will definitely help you with the blur (as long as they are coming from your hand shaking because of the slow exposure), but I highly doubt that the digital noise will disappear with the S5 IS. The S5 IS use a 1/2.5" sensor which is pretty common in other pocket camera, and it's one of the reason why you see digital noise in low light situation.

Like other said, save up and get a DSLR. The XT is an excellent start for this, or if you want to get into the second hand market, the Digital Rebel/300D is just the camera for you.

What is a really good advanced point and shoot digital camera?

TDKFlashFl

My old camera, a Canon Power Shot S5IS is acting weird. Time for a new one I think.

What a a really good advanced point and shot digital camera that would be a step or two up from the Power Shot S5 IS?

My daughter shows horses, so I need something that can capture moving subject well and is good in low light conditions!!!

I want a camera that feels/looks like a SLR, but is not. I am thinking about a Nikon Coolpix L820or maybe an Olympus Stylus SP-820UZ?

Thanks!

Answer
You'd do better to put a Tamron 18-270 or 18-250 (not 18-200) lens on a small DSLR body like a Sony A37, or other brand of your choice to keep it affordable chose an earlier camera model. The lens can stay with you when you upgrade provided that you don't jump ship from the brand. They can all be used in auto mode just like a P&S only you can develop your skills at your own pace.

But look at the dinky little DSLR Canon recently put on the market:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/07/26/just-posted-canon-eos-100d-rebel-sl1-review

But if you must have a bridge camera then Pentax made the X5 just for people like you:

What lens fit my Canon eos kiss x digital camera?

best canon eos digital camera on Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT - PRESS RELEASE | PhotoshopSupport.com
best canon eos digital camera image

Phillip

I was just given a Canon EOS Kiss x digital camera but there werent any lens for it. I love trying out all sorts of cameras and want to take this one out for a spin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Any of the modern Canon AF lenses will fit, so too will Sigma, Tamron and other independent brands if they have a Canon mount.
You didn't give any budget... and top-spec lenses can cost up to many thousands, but Canon's little 18-55 kit lens is perfectly adequate to start with (around $100 on EBay). If I was going to keep the camera I'd put a Tamron 18-270 lens on it for general use (around $350 on Ebay.)

How do you upload pictures from a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera?

xlilxkimx

My brother let me borrow his Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera for a trip and I'm not sure how to upload them onto my computer. My friend was telling me something about having to take out the memory card or something. Does anyone know?

Answer
I suspect your brother does this kind of thing with his camera all of the time and probably has everything necessary to do it. You should ask him how he does it and what equipment he uses which is information he will probably share with you. He'll have the software, the USB cable that will allow you to attach the camera to the computer, or a USB card reader which will allow you to download your images. No sense you buying more equipment like this if he's got it since it's his camera. If you're on vacation and your card is full and your brother is not around, take your camera to the nearest store to you that sells cameras or computers and buy an extra flash card. When you get back from your trip give him the extra flash card as thanks for letting you use his camera. I suspect he will be happy to download your images into his computer and then make CDs for you.

How to capture photos with a camera for stop motion?

best canon digital elph camera on What are the best ultra compact digital cameras for sale | brother2s ...
best canon digital elph camera image

Brandon H

I have a Canon Powershot 100 HS Digital ELPH Camera. I also have a webcam but it doesn't have good quality. I want to use a program that is available to p.c. to capture pictures from the camera via usb. Like if you were using a webcam to take pictures and recording them on a p.c. with software that transfers it strait to the p.c. and that takes the picture when you click something on the computer. That way the camera doesn't move when you are pressing the shutter button.

Answer
your best bet is to just use the camera without having it hooked up to the cpu and transfer all the photos afterwards. as for how to shoot the photos, it depends on what you're shooting. if it's a person, just have them move 6-12" between shots (e.g. if they just took a step, have them move the leg behind them around 6-12" but still in the same motion as if they were just walking the way they normally do).

How do I turn a compact digital camera into a SLR?

awantwin20

I own a Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH Camera. How should I play around with the settings (ISO, etc.) to make it take incredible, crisp photos with low noise in low-light settings, much like a digital SLR (Nikon D3100 for example)?
What I'm asking is: How do i make my compact digital camera take high quality pictures in low-light settings much like an SLR? Serious responses ONLY, please...

Answer
well, take a photography class......shutter speed, aperture, ISO takes too long to explain here......

crisp pics with low noise: ISO100

and if you want high quality pics in low light, heres a recommendations: go to A/Av mode and set the f/stop to the widest possible(f/2.8 or 3.5) and use ISO 400 or 800......you can also use a tripod.....

I want to upgrade from my basic point and shoot digital camera?

Ebs

I have a basic point and shoot digital camera and I would like to upgrade to a camera that will take higher quality photos. I don't have aspirations to become a professional photographer. I want to be able to take higher quality photos of friends, family, pets, and take high quality pictures during my vacations. I'm looking for a camera that is user friendly within the $300-500 price range.
I've done some research but am overwhelmed by all the options.

Answer
You could upgrade to a top spec 'travel compact' e.g. Lumix TZ20, Fujifilm F550EXR, Sony HX9V

You could get a high spec point and shoot e.g. Canon Powershot G12 or S95, Lumix LX5, Nikon P7000

You could get a compact system camera e.g. Sony NEX-3, Olympus E-PL1

You could get a DSLR e.g. Pentax K-r, Nikon D3100

All will offer manual as well as auto modes to suit your ability. The high end compacts are extremely good quality and are even used by some pros as a backup camera for the pocket. They tend not to have much "zoom" though which is where a 'travel compact' comes in. The CSCs and DSLRs of course enable you to purchase more lenses in the future but they can be expensive. Also with a DSLR to get the most out of it you need to learn and know what you are doing.

canon digital camera and prices in india image

Nishant Sh

I wish to buy a Canon SX30IS Digital Camera. I am from India and this camera costs Rs. 29000 in India. When checked on the US website of Canon, the same model is priced at a bit less than 20000.
Is there any way i can get this camera shipped from the United States to India ?
please help.

Answer
I am not sure about digital cameras specifically, but many online shops do not accept international orders or offer international shipping.

Here is a shopping directory website listing online shops that ship to India:

http://www.intletail.com/india/electronics/digital-cameras/etailers

I hope that link is of some help to you.

Are digital cameras in Chennai expensive? Do they sell them duty free at the airport?

Sisyphus

They're expensive in Sri Lanka. I can buy one for more than double the price in Colombo or I can wait until I arrive at Chennai airport and buy one there.

Also, does Chennai have cheap Lonely Planet travel guides? In Vietnam you could buy one for a couple of bucks on the street.
