I have been scammed by low priced sites, such as 86photoandvideo, and am reading about other "companies" scamming consumers. Anyone know of a reliable website to buy a canon digital camera?

Answer
I've always had good experiences with bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com, and amazon.com.

Why can some sites sell Digital cameras so cheap?

Jp

I am looking for a canon Digital camera, when I google it I can a huge variety of sites selling the camera for as much as a 1000 dollar difference? Are the camera's all the same quality?

Answer
A lot of those too-cheap-to-be-true places, like broadwayphoto, are scam artists. Here are two sites to do quick background checks on stores with unbelievably low prices:
http://www.resellerratings.com
http://search.bbb.org

Or just shop at the following stores - guaranteed to have some of the lowest, legit prices anywhere:
http://www.adorama.com
http://www.amazon.com
http://www.beachcamera.com
http://www.bhphotovideo.com

Is it better to use a digital camera or camcorder for movie making?

canon digital camera 3300 price on Canon Powershot 3300
canon digital camera 3300 price image

.!

I've become obsessed with video editing lately but the cameras at school are garbage and make it difficult to edit so I've been searching around for a good camera. I noticed that Andrew Kramer from videocopilot.net talked about using a cannon 5d and so did the guy from FilmRiot so i was wondering if anybody knew which would be better for movie making;

a good digital camera like the cannon 60d, or a decent camcorder like the Panasonic HDC-SD60K

thanks

Answer
The Panasonic is a mid-entry level camcorder. The best consumer HD camcorders record at 11 gigs/hour. Going deep into the owners manual I finally found the best this little guy will do is 8gb/hour

The Canon and several DSLRs down into the $1000 kit range record video at 20 gb/hour. Getting pretty close to Triple the data rate of the Panasonic. DSLRs have other disadvantages though. As they are primarily a camera, they have to use their batteries to hold open a shutter screen and hold up the reflex mirror. Along with shortened battery life, this adds to the heat. The big heat factor though, comes from powering an 18mp CCD sensor to do about 2mp worth of work.

Other limits include file size and poor audio, both of which can be accommodated.

But I don't understand why you are comparing the 5D which will set you back $3000 with a good lens, to a $400 consumer crapcorder?

If my intent was video, and the consideration was the 5D or a Comparable priced VIDEO camera, I'd go for the $3300 XF100 (which includes a very VERSATILE lens).

THIS (XF100) is the cheapest HD camcorder I would even consider buying to replace my GL-2 cameras.

Why am I still using MiniDv tape?? Simple: It records at 13 gigs/hour and has a better compression method. I can up-convert from DV to HD and have better image quality than even the best, consumer camcorders under $2000.

Against the DSLRs there may be an edge on the side of HD until you run into fast action, sports, rapid panning, etc. The inter-frame compression of DV (MiniDv tape) is ideal for movement and action, where the HD format relies on reference frames and interpreted frames. In other words, some frames rely on their neighbors for data.

So the good news, DSLR can be good quality and you don't need a $3000 5D M2 to get it. You get the exact same video from a t2i or any DSLR of any brand's that calculates 20 gigs/hr (4 gigs for 12 min). Just be aware of their other limitations.

Or look for an e-bay or other deal on a used MiniDv based camera like the GL or XL series. OR get the Canon ZR960 brand new for $250.00, probably the only remaining entry level MiniDv camcorder available now. It will exceed the quality of the Panasonic and other cheap cameras, it will exceed any consumer oriented HD camera for any price.

Don't want to deal with tapes, computer to slow for firewire? I've been looking at card based video drives for my GL, but my work load needs to increase to justify the extra $1000.

And, just to add a little more confusion, look at HDV format cameras (Also MiniDv tape based) starting around $1000 (consumer camcorder types).

How can I take clear close up photos using a canon powershot digital camera?

canon digital camera macro lens image

I used to have a Vivitar digital camera that took absolutely pristine, crystal clear photos of small items such as postage stamps & currency. I now have a canon powershot a480, & no matter what I try, the close up shots are just not clear. I've tried using the Super Macro setting to no avail. Is there some setting I should be selecting? any help is truly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Make sure the lens is the proper distance from the object. most cameras macro setting requires a distance of 1 foot or slightly more. My sony is 1.3 ft. Then use a tripod for really good ones.

Canon digital camera and other non canon lens?

Ms.Matashi

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I was wondering what other kinds of non canon brand lenses can I use with my camera? Currently I use a Canon 50mm 1.8 and the 18-55mm kit lens.

Answer
Some lenses to consider are those from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. On average, each lens does not do as well as their Canon or Nikon counterparts, but still get the job done. If you want quality, get Canon lenses. If you want a cheap alternative, go to the third party brands.

As for specifics, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 at the moment, but am going to upgrade to a 70-200mm VR once I save up enough money. The Tamron is good for the money, but slow to focus. I hear this also plagues the type with the built in motor.

The type of lens you want depends on the type of shooting you're going to do. If you shoot landscapes, look into a wide angle lens, such as the Sigma 10-20mm or Tamron 17-50mm. For telephoto zoom, the 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron would be a good option. I don't care too much for the Sigma, because there are issues with the outer coating. For portrait work, I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm macro, or the Sigma 70mm macro. I have not used Tonkina, but some people say they are good, while others do not. I guess the same goes for Sigma, but not so much with Tamron.

Is it possible and/or feasible to achieve focus stacking using a digital camera instead of a DSLR?

Brenton

I have a digital camera (the Olympus Stylus Tough 3000) that I've been recently using more often. I don't have any immediate plans to buy a new camera. It's far from the highest quality camera, but it does have good macro focus, up to 2 cm.
I'm beginning to get into macro photography and realize that I could achieve a greater depth of field and sharper images using a technique called focus stacking. However, all of the tutorials I've found online mention the use of a DSLR camera for this method. There's no mentioning of this method with a regular digital camera.
As I understand it, you need to take a series of shots at varying distances in order to get a greater range of that sharpness you want to achieve. I'm very new at macro photography, so please bear with me.
Is it possible to do proper focus stacking with a normal digital camera and NOT a DSLR?

Answer
Yes it is, focus stacking software will work with image files from any camera, it's just that a DSLR can have a dedicated macro lens fitted, be easier to control and, because of the larger sensor, image quality will be better.

When taking the images a focus slide is useful, these will move the camera a small amount between shots, but keep it aligned. Something like this;-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Way-Macro-Focus-Rail-Slider-Slide-for-Canon-60D-600D-650D-Nikon-D7000-D90-LF25-/140892713796?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20cddc3344

They can be used with any camera that has a tripod thread and go between the the tripod and the camera.

which digital camera is the best for downloading photos in PC?

SPIRITUAL

I have a Sony which is good in lenses but when trying to downloading software from Sony is a nightm are!
Which compact digital camera is jut "plug and go" in relation to computer? I mean which digital brand is the more easy to deal, in relation to any computer operation system?
I didn't have any problem with my Canon, but I am having lots of problems with Sony digital cameras and camcorders (Sony'camcorder software even block my PC cd room when updating)

Answer
You can take off the memory card of ANY digital camera, plug it in a compatible USB card reader, connect the card reader to an open USB slot in the computer, and use My Computer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) to COPY, DELETE, and MOVE files from the memory card to the computer and vice versa and even format the memory card (as FAT32) to empty it and give you more space for new pictures. If there is a problem encountered using this method, it is usually the memory card itself at fault and the only solution is to replace it. You DO NOT need to the software that came with the camera at all. Just keep the CD in a safe place for future reference.

Does any one know where i can purchase digital camera at disounted or wholesale price like canon. Is alibaba a good places there are many sellers located in China . Not feel comfortable buying anything outside of US to avoid scam/fraud.

Answer
Alibaba.com has a lot of sources but as for all other trade portals, having "Trust Pass" or Gold Membership does not guarantee that the seller is legitimate, although the chances of them being legitimate is fairly higher.

I have sources for the Digital Cameras, as I, too, source for consumer electronics. If you tell me what you're looking for, I might be able to help you find the product you want.

You can use Trade Portals to find the goods but you have to check all their details. DO NOT USE Western union as a form of payment unless you have a contact in that Country (example; China) who can help incase something goes wrong.

You may also post for help on Alibaba.com in the resources section. As for payment options, paypal is not common in China but there is something that's called Alipay.com, similar to paypal.

I also have a small list of Canon wholesalers in the US. I personally researched them, they have phone numbers and addresses. One of them is in New York. I can sell the list to you if you wish to get this information. Just send me a message.

I am planning to buy a camera this boxing day but wondering what is the different between t2 and t3 canon digital cameras. Pls give me an advice!

Answer
So your price range is 1,000 bucks or so? There is no T2, but there is a T2i. And Canon makes a T3 and T3i. The T2i is older, but apparently has slightly better image quality than the T3i (but it's not a noticeable difference). If you want the flippy-screen screen, get the T3i. Also consider the Nikon D3100 and D5100

@>*~Be@ut!

I am looking to buy a new digital camera. I really like the SLR's but I have no idea which brand or model is better. I am looking to spend $500 at the MOST on a camera...which do you suggest?

This is mainly for just family pictures. Nothing professional. But I would really like to use it for some nice family portraits and fun pictures.

Answer
In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

You may never need expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, but the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one place to get great buys, but click the second link in the information above then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Mega pixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but the second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the next link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of normal use and have not been recharged.
http://www.google.com/base/a/4210404/D13701973093918363271

Most NiMH rechargeable batteries lose charge and should be recharged when not used after two weeks, but Duracell and RayOVac new formula 2000mAh NiMH batteries hold charge one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like these batteries at first, but have 12 over five years old and all are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries (about one year old) still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged NiMH 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (both hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. After five years of normal use these batteries are still going four months without recharge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

This link is about prolonging the life of lithium-ion batteries that last two to three years.
http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm ...

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and ... It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.

http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=3462&review=sony+cybershot+w150 ...

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged, format in camera, and don't delete or fill card completely. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. Check the camera maker's site or view owner's manuals at this link. You will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

I have a photo on Zoombrowser (the Canon digital camera software) on which I want to zoom in on a particular part (the people) and save. But when I try to do that, and select "Save As", the photo goes back to the way it was (unzoomed). Can you modify the photo like this in Zoombrowser?

Answer
You cannot do that. When you do a zoomed in view, that is all it is, it is not actually recreating the photo into a larger size. As said in the other answer, to do what you want requires cropping of the photo and resizing. I have used Zoombrowser in the past and I can't remember if it is capable of that or not. It is actually a very limited program designed to do just the most basic editing functions.

A program such as Photoshop is what you need, or you can download GIMP for free:

Under the Start menu, find the folder with your pictures in it.
Select all the pictures that you want to move to the camera.
Click and drag them to the folder on your memory card.

How to set up and use a Canon 650D digital camera?

canon digital camera on amazon image

Geb

How can I set up a new Canon 650D digital camera and what are suitable hardware and software that I could buy to use with the camera to view, edit and print my photographs.
Also explain how to set it up and maintain it.

Answer
Explain how to set up and maintain the Canon DSLR. Tells me that you bought a DSLR because everybody on this site told you too. Now you are faced with how to operate the darn thing. Simply put you bought more camera than you should have. Well the only thing is to make the best of it.

LETS ADDRESS YOUR QUESTIONS FIRST:
1.You should not get into editing beyond the simple cropping that processors offer for now, you have enough on your plate. I always use a store in my community for most of my pictures.. I do not go into their store except to "pick-up" my order. I use their web site to crop, & order my prints. I don't like putting my memory card into machines that have been abused by every "Tom, Dick & Harry!"
COMPUTER UPLOADING: buy & use a memory card reader ($6.00) instead of the camera to computer cord that drives people nuts.
2. Hardware; there is no hardware to buy now or ever. If you are referring to lenses, you do not have the experience now to go out and spend money on lenses that YOU really don't have a need for yet.
SOFTWARE: you should have connected your camera to your computer for any up dates to your camera, when you first got your camera. Make this a once a year project. When I connected my camera, the web site updated the cameras software so I could use the (then) new SDHC memory cards.
3. Set the camera up and maintain it. Starting backwards unless you use some other size battery you should get yourself about 3 sets of double "A" rechargeable batteries. The best brand are Eneloop. Buy together with a battery charger is the most economical way. If you have a different size battery buy two extras batteries, or at least one. Keep batteries charged , what ever size you use.
4. NECK STRAP- Yahoo does not like it when I use capitals all the time BUT this is perhaps the most important thing you can do. Always wear the neck strap. You drop this camera, be warned-dropping is NOT covered under warranty! The camera belongs in two places only, around your neck or in the gadget bag! Not carry by it's strap in your hands (like that blasted Nikon commercial implies!)
5.Auto setting, most people who own DLSR's recommend against using the "Auto" setting. But I recommend YOU use it until you become familiar with your camera.

I also recommend you invest in some easy to read books by Scot Kelby. He writes in a very easy to read style. I have a few because at first digital was foreign to me coming from a film environment.
The really nice thing about his books beyond the understanding factor is his web site. He often refers you to his web site to make visual presentations easier to understand! This is a real plus for me.
And while we are on the subject of reading you should check amazon for a good book on your model camera. Instruction books are often hard to read because it seems they do not employ "tech" writers anymore and you are left with what is left.

That is enough on your plate!

Good Luck

P.S. I just read "Jim A's" advise on the manual. He is correct but I take it one step further. I download and PRINT the manual, leaving out simple things I already know like putting batteries in the camera etc. I take the remaining pages to a large place like Staples and have them cut and spiral bind the rest. I carry this home made manual with me should I encounter a situation I am not familiar with.
All this editing and preparing also enhances my knowledge of the camera and I find I have less & less to refer to. And while I am on my soapbox, get your backside out there and shoot and shoot. Experience is the best teacher!

How do you know which lenses fit your camera?

Ryan

I have a sony a55 and I've been looking on amazon trying to get a 75-300 or something-300mm lens for my camera and a lot of them say for sony, nikon or canon digital camera or something like that. I want to be sure it works on mine though so how can I be 100% sure that they will fit mine?

Answer
Check that it supports the Sony A mount. It tends to say something like "Tamron 70-300mm for Sony"

The Tammy 70-300mm is by the way a decent lens for a low low price.

Your A55 has the a mount, aka the modern old minolta mount and will accept old minolta glass auto focus glass and Sony lenses. But also Sigma, Tamron and other brands lenses as long as they are...you guessed it A-mount. Made for use on the Sony!

Make sure you buy a lens with the right mount and it should work just fine. Now there is on caveat, there are allot of older manual focus lenses out of the film age. And there are adapters you can screw on them to allow you to use these older lenses with modern cameras.

Sometimes you find one of these oldies sold like a "panagor 135mm F2,8 for Sony" means that its a M42 or another mount lens with an adapter on it for Sony.

Now using old glass is fun but without AF so it is something you have to decide if you like it.

What do you suggest is the best program for viewing digital photos?

Tresflip

Hi,
I have a Canon 60D digital camera with 18MP. I am wondering what would be the best program for viewing the pictures that I take and for printing from. I am not talking about editing etc, just for viewing and printing from.

Answer
to get the best from your camera you should shoot in raw mode, then use adobe photoshop to 'process' them, rather than saving in jpg and letting the camera do all the guesswork. it might take a bit longer but the results are much better. if money is an issue get gimp 2, similar software but free!.
you should never shoot in raw and then print though, as these would be unprocessed images and could look worse than jpg versions. to start with shoot in combined raw+jpg, process the raw and compare to the jpg.

What do all the numbers mean on SLR cameras?Which is the best one?

I am looking to buy a Canon SLR digital camera and I understand megapixels but dont understand the other numbers like the 18-55mm or whatever. What should I be looking for? Larger numbers?

What kind of digital camera should I get?

best canon digital camera 2012 on Canon PowerShot SX50HS Digital Camera
best canon digital camera 2012 image

Anonymous.

I have a 2009 panosonic lumix (digital not HD - forget type though), but it's kind of broken because the lens won't open fully. I think it's time to get a new camera since I haven't gotten one since early 2010. I plan to be a photographer in the future (as a side job). I am also going to work at a camp and plan to take pictures there. I don't feel like bringing my big EOS digital 2008 cannon. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Price range no more than $250. I would prefer less than $200, but if it would really suite me, then I'd go for it.
2. I'm not quite sure what I like. I know there's no such thing as a total all around digital point and shoot because I've been doing some research. I'd probably be doing photo shoots, but I also want one that would take like pictures of people doing sports since I'm in the horse world and like to take pictures of people horse riding and stuff. I guess I'd mainly focus on pets and kids and stuff.
3. I know optical zoom. I have photoshop CS5, so I don't need the pixels taken up like that.
4. I don't need a video recording. Would be nice, but eh I'd rather save my money and just use my phone or something.
5. I have a 2010 mac book pro laptop, so I'd like the card to be able to read/format on that.
6. If I print out images, it doesn't need to be more than 8X10 photo paper printed pictures. I mean I'd use my bigger camera for larger photos, so yeah. I'll probably just post the pictures online/email them if anything so won't need them really printed big.
7. I'd like to have a camera that has a decent battery life. At camp, the power went out for 8 days last year. I was able to take pictures the whole time and took over 300 pictures and still had battery life. I wouldn't mind having a long battery life like that camera.
8. My hand does shake a tad sometimes, so I'd prefer a not SOOO sensitive camera.
9. I'd like a camera that has the ability for manual settings and as well as auto or/and preset settings.
10. I'd prefer like Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic (nicer brands rather than the not so trustworthy brands because I know how to use those types of cameras).

Which camera(s) do you think would best suite me?

Answer
http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2012/09/cannon-is-weapon.html

1. Price is right smack in your budget.
2. Zoom is enough on this camera for taking horses and their riders. This is also good for shots of pets, kids and stuff which are near you or relatively out of reach. Just remember to shoot under lots of light. Indoors, use flash.
3. Optical zoom is not extravagant but not wanting either. Don't worry. What it lacks in zoom, it makes up with optical quality.
4. This has HD video which you can completely ignore until you find a lustful desire for it later.
5. As a standard feature, all cameras follow the FAT filesystem. With memory cards 4GB and larger, FAT32 is imposed. Mac computers can recognize FAT/FAT32 without problems. You can even format the memory card to FAT/FAT32 using your Mac (no matter how many pro photographers advice you not to). It will work.
6. This is a 16MP camera. You can print to 11x16" as long as exposure quality is gloriously good enough.
7. Four AA batteries. The best would be Energizer Lithium but you can also get rechargeable Ni-MH. Just make sure they're at least 2100 mAh for very long lasting shooting. In the event you run out, just slide over to the nearest store for some Alkaline AA's. That's the beauty of it.
8. Oh, this camera's sensitive. Apart from excellent optical glass quality, it has a triple-shake-reduction technology so don't worry about shaky hands. You're covered on that one.
9. Manual exposure? Manual focus? No problem. It's not as intuitive as a dSLR. This is after all just a bridge but, if you want manual, this has manual.
10. Since you can't spell Canon correctly, I'll take it you don't know that this brand is older than them and just a tad younger than Nikon. There was a time in fact when all cameras sold by all other brands (nice and not so trustworthy) were lesser than that sold by this brand alone. So there.

I have a Digital Canon Rebel camera and i have downloaded the ZoomBrowser EX, Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility and the Picture Style Editor. Yet every time i plug it in to my computer.. there are these two instant clicks and nothing pops up onto my computer and it doesn't seem to read that it is plugged in. I have a smaller digital camera that works fine with uploading but this one is having problems.. you know whats wrong and what I should do?

Answer
if you just go to my computer your camera should show up there automatically. if it doesn't, make sure that the camera is on. depending on which rebel you have, maybe your small point and shoot uses the same media? in that case put it in the small camera and open the camera's folders directly from my computer.

How to download from Canon s45 with original filename without cardreader?

Luey

Whenever I connect my Canon s45 digital camera to either of my Windows XP computers, the scanners and cameras dialog box comes up and then asks me to give a name to the photos before downloading them. This happens for either normal or PTP mode, either with their WIA driver installed or not. How do I get the files to download with their original names. I hate pulling the CF card and using a card reader because I just know I'm going to bend one of the pins in the camera reinserting it someday. This camera is not recognized as a USB Mass Storage Device and doesn't show up as a removable drive.
There is no download for the entire ZoomBrowser or I would have tried it myself. There is only an updater download. I bought the camera used without software thinking it would be like my Olympus and Panasonic cameras that are USB MSDs. I was wrong. Canon just has to do things differently.

Answer
Use the Canon ZoomBrowser software instead of the XP camera wizard - you can download it here at the Canon Support Website:

What recommendation for a digital camera brand and model?

Hime-Sama

I would like to buy a digital camera but I'm not sure what to look at. Design is not an important aspect. What I would want is that it can produce a good quality picture and doesn't need much editing. I'm not so sure whether to pick a higher megapixel because some review states that higher doesn't mean better, though I'm not sure why. Could someone give me a guidance in choosing a good digital camera? Thanks. =)

Answer
I would suggestion these are good quality digital cameras that take good pictures, good of megapixel, slim, etc.

Rhythmic S

I wish to buy a Canon SX30IS Digital Camera. I am from India and this camera costs Rs. 29000 in India. When checked on the US website of Canon, the same model is priced at a bit less than 20000.
Is there any way i can get this camera shipped from the United States to India ?
please help.

Answer
I am not sure about digital cameras specifically, but many online shops do not accept international orders or offer international shipping.

Here is a shopping directory website listing online shops that ship to India:

I hope that link is of some help to you.

What is the average longevity of a good Digital Compact Camera (if maintained properly) ?

shankd67

How many years can I expect to see a digital point & shoot camera (esp. from a popular brand viz. Canon, Olympus or Nikon) ....working, if I operate & maintain it in a proper manner ?
My maintenance of any thing is quite good. I am from India and its a tropical country.

Answer
The key to maintaining anything is proper care. I keep my gear clean, properly cased, always use a neck/wrist strap, and try to protect them in inclement weather.

For example, I have:

1) a Canon SD870 IS (a P&S) that is 4+ years old, and it looks and works like brand new. I expect another 10 years at least.

Other older cameras:
2) a Canon Sureshot WP-1 (waterproof 35mm P&S) that is 16 years old
3) a D30 (DSLR) that is going on 12 years old, and still sees frequent use (I'm using it to teach my wife photography and use it for boudoir sessions)
4) Several (7) 35mm film cameras from the 60s & 70s that work great
5) a Bronica C that is (uhhh...counts on fingers and toes several times) about 46 years old

By keeping them clean, getting CLA maintenance (Cleaning/Lubrication/timing Adjustment) done on them, and giving them normal use... they all work like they were designed to

I want a decent digital camera i've noticed some of the Canon or Nikon camera's lens project a great deal outwards... that part of the camera doesn't flatten back into the camera does it? do you have to buy that part separately ??... and are they difficult to use, do i need to have some kind of knowledge a degree in technology to be able to use one of them?

Answer
what is a dslr? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dslr and a buying guide. http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Guides/dslr_buying_guide_01.htm

Anyone with normal intelligence and willingness to learn can learn to use one of these in a few hours. Really mastering photography will take a lot longer.

What kind of digital camera do you have?

cul8r07

I am asking for a digital camera for my birthday and would love to hear any good deals out there. I am only buying through stores and need to know what to look for in a camera. I'd like one in the $100-$125 range and will also be wanting one of those chips that you can store photos on. I like taking pictures and sharing them so I'll also want one that I can easily get developed with great pictures. If you know of any good deals going from now untill April please let me know.thanks!
okay i up that to 200-250
i'm only 17 and work at mcdonalds

Answer
I think the camera in your price range is the Canon Powershot A530. It has been on sale at numberous big box stores below $130. That's a good price on a good camera. The A530 was selling for $180 not too long ago. I've recommended this camera within my own family, so I'll be living with the results of this recommendation right along with you. You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.

The Canon Powershot A540 is the big brother to this excellent camera and it has reviewed quite well, also. I have seen it selling for $170 this season in all the usual places.

Go here and read an extensive review:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a530.html

Skip to this page if you just want the final word:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a530_pg6.html

Check the sample images, too.

This will blow your mind:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/150-vs-5000-dollar-camera.htm

You can get a brand-name SD memory card for $15-20. Look for at least a 256 MB (512 MB is better) Sandisk, Lexar, or other brand name that you might recognise.
