I am buying a Canon digital camera, which is the best model in the SD line?

canon digital camera and price on ... A495 Price in India - Canon PowerShot A495 Price - Digital Camera

I have narrowed my digital camera purchase down to the Canon SD line. I am looking at the 850is, the 750 and the 1000. The 850 and the 750 are very close in price and the 1000 is significantly cheaper. I can't seem to find many differences between the 3 and was wondering if anyone had any experience between any of these? Thanks

Answer
Sorry i dont know much about cameras. I just bought one from Canon though that is wonderful.... Canon Rebel xti....

How do you know which lenses fit your camera?

Q. I have a sony a55 and I've been looking on amazon trying to get a 75-300 or something-300mm lens for my camera and a lot of them say for sony, nikon or canon digital camera or something like that. I want to be sure it works on mine though so how can I be 100% sure that they will fit mine?

Answer
Check that it supports the Sony A mount. It tends to say something like "Tamron 70-300mm for Sony"

The Tammy 70-300mm is by the way a decent lens for a low low price.

Your A55 has the a mount, aka the modern old minolta mount and will accept old minolta glass auto focus glass and Sony lenses. But also Sigma, Tamron and other brands lenses as long as they are...you guessed it A-mount. Made for use on the Sony!

Make sure you buy a lens with the right mount and it should work just fine. Now there is on caveat, there are allot of older manual focus lenses out of the film age. And there are adapters you can screw on them to allow you to use these older lenses with modern cameras.

Sometimes you find one of these oldies sold like a "panagor 135mm F2,8 for Sony" means that its a M42 or another mount lens with an adapter on it for Sony.

Now using old glass is fun but without AF so it is something you have to decide if you like it.

What is a good hd video camera for a good price?

I want a good 1080p hd video camera for a good price. I was thinking around the 250$-300$ range. I don't know if it is possible but if any one knows of any good deals let me know.
Thanks

Answer
Canon PowerShot A1300 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Image Stabilized Zoom 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 720p HD Video Recording Great camera for the price. Purchased the camera in May 2012 to shoot family events, friends ect. You could not ask for a better price vs performance camera. Very simple to use, excellent picture and video quality. I would suggest getting a cushioned camera case that includes the USB thumb drive reader for $10, the case is perfect for travel and storage when not in use. The USB reader is a great option when offloading the memory card.

Photography tips for a dark lit environment with moving figures?

???????

I own a Canon 60D DSLR camera and I need to take photos for an upcoming school dance. I would like these photos to cone out as best as possible, but because of the situation, I need tips on how to set up the settings in my camera for the best results.
The dance is very active, and there many moving figures around multicolored/flashing lights in a dark environment.
What settings would help me get the pictures clear, crisp, and not blurry? How would I get the photos to come out with

Answer
First, forget about using your camera's built-in flash except for pictures of individuals or small groups and if you do use it in those situations you'll need to diffuse the flash.

Second, if you can afford either the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 or EF 35mm f2.0 then buy the one you like best after trying them at your local camera store. If you can't afford to buy a new lens then ask if you can rent one. Trying to use the slow, variable aperture zoom lens that came with your camera is going to require a very high ISO so a faster prime lens like the 28mm or 35mm will allow a lower ISO which means reduced digital noise and better image quality. You'll still need a high ISO such as 1600 even with an f1.8 or f2.0 prime lens to achieve a shutter speed fast enough to prevent blur caused by subject motion or camera movement. Since the lenses I'm suggesting are prime lenses with no zoom you'll have to "zoom" with your feet - take a few steps closer to get less in the scene, take a few steps back to get more in the scene. That's how we "zoomed" before zoom lenses were invented.

Third, use your camera's Spot metering setting so the camera's meter isn't trying to calculate exposure for the entire scene. Here are a couple of articles on using spot metering:

http://spotmetering.com/spwhy.htm

http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2012/05/28/when-to-use-spot-metering

The idea is to meter only your subject(s) and let the background go dark.

As I said earlier, if you decide to use your camera's built-in flash in some situations it will need to be diffused. You can use a piece of tissue or thin white cloth or the "Puffer" from Gary Fong.
http://www.garyfongestore.com/featured-products/puffer-pop-up-flash-diffuser.html Using the flash without some sort of diffusion results in harsh lighting which is not very flattering.

From this review it appears that your camera does fairly well at high ISO values but I still recommend one of the 2 fast prime lenses previously referenced.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E60D/E60DA.HTM

Good luck and hope you share some of your results.

Photographers, which is better, Nikon or Canon?

best canon digital camera 2012 review on com: Customer Reviews: Canon PowerShot SX160 IS 16.0 MP Digital Camera ...
best canon digital camera 2012 review image

I know the Canon 5D mark III is supposed to be the best camera out there and the Nikon D800 almost matches it, but I don't have 3000 dollars to spend.

So on a smaller, scale say 600-700 dollars,
would you say that the Nikon d3500 or the Canon T3 is better?
I like the 7- 9-blade diaphragm that Nikon offers opposed to the 6- 8- of Canon. But I hear that Nikon has too much magenta in their resolutions or too much yellow in the LCD.

Which has more aperture versatility and accurate shutter speed?

For outdoor/landscape, night, and long exposure photography, and natural looking portraits, which brand is better?

Any recommendations for models by each brand? Like, is it really worth it to get the T3i for such and such more dollars instead of the T3?

Thanks
Whoops- D3200

Answer
First, repeat this 100 times: "It isn't the camera its the photographer." Any DSLR in capable hands will produce good results. Your knowledge of Light, Composition, Exposure and Depth of Field and your skill in using that knowledge will determine the quality of the results.

A DSLR doesn't have "aperture versatility". That is a function of the lens. Nikon and Canon offer a wide variety of lenses with different maximum apertures. The T3 and D3200 both come with an 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Both manufacturers offer a more expensive 17-55mm f2.8 zoom as an alternative to the standard 18-55mm zoom.

Since all DSLR shutters are electronically controlled its safe to say any make and model will have an accurate shutter speed.

Most beginner photographs use the 18-55mm zoom for outdoor photography. The 18mm end of the standard 18-55mm zoom is suitable for landscapes although anyone serious about landscape photography will eventually want an even wider lens (10mm, 12mm, etc.) and a good tripod.

Natural looking portraits are a result of the photographer's skill in using good lighting and posing techniques and in knowing what lens to use. The make and model of camera is irrelevant.

Long exposure photography requires a tripod and, if done during daylight hours, a Neutral Density (ND) filter.

The Canon T3 is their most basic entry-level DSLR. The Canon T4i when fitted with one of the two available Canon STM lenses (40mm and 18-135mm) will allow for auto focus during video. The T3, T2i and T3i don't have that feature/benefit.

The Sony SLT A65 allows for continuous, full-time, phase-detect auto focus whether you're shooting still images or full 1080p HD video with any AF lens in the Sony lineup. The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) chose the A65 as their 2012 Top DSLR - Advanced.

The Pentax K-30 has a weather-sealed body and comes with a weather-sealed 18-55mm zoom lens. This makes it usable in the rain or in very dusty conditions that would damage the comparably priced models from Sony, Canon and Nikon.

At http://www.digital-slr-guide.com you can find comparisons of various makes and models of DSLR cameras. Compare them feature by feature.

You'll also find excellent reviews at http://www.imaging-resource.com and at http://www.dpreview.com

Ignore sites that only offer user reviews.

Visit a camera store and physically handle each make and model. One will just "feel" better as you handle it. If that particular models has all the features you want then its the one to buy.

Just remember this: "It isn't the camera its the photographer." It won't matter if you pay $500.00 or $5,000.00 for a camera if you aren't knowledgeable about Light, Composition, Exposure and Depth of Field and, through practice, skilled in their use you'll get the same results regardless of how much you pay for the camera.

What's the best camcorder for 2012 from consumer review and every ones else in the $250 to $325 out there in 2012?

Answer
HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.http://simplevideoediting.com/learn/part1_camcorder_choices.htm

I want to buy a new camera. And I want one that would fit my needs. And i also want one that isn't super expensive. I take a lot of photos of family and friends, and I go to a lot of concerts.
And as far as the concert part is concerned- I go to small venues in seattle which allows photos- and there is low lighting.

Answer
A good camera would be one that performs well at high iso's, has fast focusing, and a big imaging sensor. Pixel count is the big fad these days, but in practice, these does little or virtually nothing the final image quality. more megapixels on a smaller sensor= artifacts, color bleeding, more noise, etc. You can consider a slr camera, which provides superior performance compared to a compact- or if you prefer not lugging around a heavy camera+lens....you may consider cameras such as the sony H9, Canon G7, among others. I heard Panasonic makes pretty good compacts too.

Why do people choose different camera brand names, and what is really the difference?

Timbit

I use and love my Canon, but sometimes I wonder if Nikon is better. And Pentax, Sony, and Lumix...Where do they fit in?
I wonder if I should try out all of these different cameras, but the cost associated with each would make me broke on the first one! Any suggestions and comments on these thoughts?

I have used a Pentax film SLR (one about 30 years old), and a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi SLR.

Answer
Sometimes, people buy things based on a brand that they trust. For example, I bought a Blu-Ray Player from Sony. It is great. I was so pleased, I decided to return to Sony when getting a camera, and got the TX5 (point and shoot) camera form Sony. I loved, so when it was time to get a new one I went with Sony again. Then I wanted a DSLR, so it would make sense that, since Sony cameras have been good in the past, they will still be good. Also, if I already have lenses for a Sony DSLR, and I wanted a new base camera, I would not go out and buy a Nikon and have all of these Sony lenses laying around.

Other times, it is cost/availability. Canon might be cheaper than Sony for a comparable camera, so if money was tight for me, I might go with the Canon. Or, I might see that there are more lenses carried in a store for Canon, vs. what they have for Sony.

There usually is a difference between brands, but most of the time it is not enough to really matter. In cameras however, all of the brands seem to have a different CCD, etc. that could make the difference.

I am asking for a digital camera for my birthday and would love to hear any good deals out there. I am only buying through stores and need to know what to look for in a camera. I'd like one in the $100-$125 range and will also be wanting one of those chips that you can store photos on. I like taking pictures and sharing them so I'll also want one that I can easily get developed with great pictures. If you know of any good deals going from now untill April please let me know.thanks!
okay i up that to 200-250

Answer
I think the camera in your price range is the Canon Powershot A530. It has been on sale at numberous big box stores below $130. That's a good price on a good camera. The A530 was selling for $180 not too long ago. I've recommended this camera within my own family, so I'll be living with the results of this recommendation right along with you. You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.

The Canon Powershot A540 is the big brother to this excellent camera and it has reviewed quite well, also. I have seen it selling for $170 this season in all the usual places.

Go here and read an extensive review:

Skip to this page if you just want the final word:

Check the sample images, too.

This will blow your mind:

You can get a brand-name SD memory card for $15-20. Look for at least a 256 MB (512 MB is better) Sandisk, Lexar, or other brand name that you might recognise.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The following link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/

What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.
My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

I want to get a digital camera -- ideally an SLR -- for someone who is good with electronics but has deteriorating vision. He used to take beautiful film photographs and feels that a point-and-shoot is too amateurish. I imagine the viewfinder should be big, and the menu reasonably simple. He needs an all-purpose lens, but doesn't need the ability to change lenses. Thanks!

Answer
Your friend is a candidate for one of the few DSLR models with LiveView, where the lcd screen is used for composing the photo. This is similar to what he's used to with his compact point-and-shoot digital camera.

The least expensive model with this feature would be the Olympus EVOLT E-410. There are other models in the Olympus line, also with Live View.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541555959.htm

After that, he might consider the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/542391115.htm

Nikon offers the new D300, with this same feature.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/SLR1164.htm

The final test is to have him handle each brand of camera. The feel, controls, and menus are especially important for all, but especially for a photographer with deteriorating sight.

There are also SLR-like cameras from Sony, Canon, Fuji, and Nikon. Here's two examples.

Look at the Olympus E-20N.

Here's a site with very, very thorough reviews for you to look over.

And the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18.

What's a reasonable price to buy a digital camera?

Stephanie

I just want a digital camera that takes good quality photos. Ideas on camera brands as well if you like.

Answer
What kind of digital camera?

Your question sounds sort of like "what's a reasonable price to buy an airplane ticket? (without mentioning destination nor class).

There are really so many digital cameras and so many market segments, that it's hard to tell...

Let me try to lay out the lower few categories (as I take it you're not in to spend thousands)...

First, under $100 - that's really more toys than cameras, can't expect much from them.

$100-200 - Most basic entry level cameras, some offer advanced controls, but few, some don't.... If that's your budget, you can find a few decent ones here.

$200-350 - This is mid-range to advanced point and shoot cameras, usually offer somewhat better optics, some of them super zooms, better matrices, most of these have manual controls to some extent. They are often a bit bulkier and heavier.

350-450 - Advanced point & shoot. Larger, much better optics, still small but more advanced sensors, all manual controls available, often noticeable image quality improvements...

450 and up - dSLR's. That's really the best of the best. They are big, heavy and bulky, but they offer interchangeable lenses for unlimited optics options ($450 buys you one with a basic entry level lens, additional lenses cost anywhere from $100 to... well.. tens of thousands, but we're not talking about them). They offer excellent real through the lens optical viewfinders (more expensive ones have "live view", or view on LCD, as p&s, but it's really not necessary), full range of manual controls, very large and high quality matrices (up to 15 times bigger than in all categories above, and even the least expensive ones on this category have excellent matrices). And so much more. Caveats: again, they're big, and to take full advantage of these you need to learn about photography at least on some basic level.

Well, that's really it. Just a note for you - no camera takes good quality photographs. You, the photographer do. Don't deceive yourself, that if you get a more expensive camera, it will automatically produce this much better results. You need to know what you're doing behind the camera, from cheapest to most expensive models. A $120 p&s in professionals hands will probably yield better results than $2000 camera in the hands of someone who has no clue. So consider at least part of your money to spend on a good photography book.

Brands:
Nikon, Canon, Olympus, maybe Pentax. The others are not camera companies. They're there in the lucrative camera market to make some cash, but real quality is with the genuine camera companies, that have been on this market for decades...

Final suggestion:
If you noticed, when describing cameras, I spoke of optics and matrices, but never mentioned megapixels. It's not unintentionally. Don't even look at megapixel values when choosing a camera. A salesman may try pushing some more expensive models on you saying, it's more megapixels, so better quality. Don't trust the salesman! Any modern day camera with 6mp and up is good enough. It's not the pixels, it's the optics and matrix that add up to a good quality photo. And of course the photographers skill (that's #1 important factor).

LEM.

what is the best camera for photography?

I am just starting to learn about photography and was wondering what is the best camera to use for someone just starting out? I have used regular 8mp Kodak easyshare digital cameras but I was thinking something a little better than that.

Answer
I recommend to anyone seriously contemplating the purchase of a new digital SLR camera to consider these two primary questions:

1. How much money do you have to spend???? $500.? $800.? $1,500.?, $2,500.??

2. What level of photography do you aspire to "progress to" in the coming years ? (i.e. basic beginner, intermediate, or professional/business use).

For most beginners to intermediates I usually suggest one of these two manufacturers: Canon vs Nikon

1. Canon EOS Rebel model XSi. (Also known as the Canon 450D in Britain)
The "kit" package comes with an 18-55mm zoom lens. The camera has pop-up flash, 12.2 Megapixels, and shutter speeds up to 1/4000th, 100-1,600 ISO sensitivity, 7 auto exposure Scene modes, PLUS Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority and Programmed Exposure Modes and Manual. It also has a 3 inch LCD screen, 3.5 frames continous per second max., 9 point AF system, Live View Functioning and the ability to record photos in 3, 6 or 12 Megapixels PLUS numerous other great features found only on more expensive cameras. Wal-Mart is also selling them now for about $799. Sam's Club also has them for $729.

I bought one of these 6 months ago and use it as my "back up" camera. I absolutely love it. I have gotten some fantastic photos with it and cannot praise it enough. I routinely enlarge my photos to make 8x10's and 11x14 size enlargements with no noticeable distortion or loss of detail in the pictures.

2. Nikon D-90: If you prefer to use Nikon equipment I strongly recommend the Nikon D-90 which has 12.3 Megapixels, 3 inch monitor with Live View, 200-3,200 ISO sensitivity, 11 point AF system with Face Priority, 4.5 frames per second in continuous mode, 5 advanced Scene modes for auto exposure plus Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority, Programmed Auto plus Manual. The D-90 sells for around $900-950. (Body ONLY. The 18-55mm lens cost an additional $150.-175.) Typically, Nikon equipment is slightly more expensive than Canon equipment, but (having owned both Nikon and Canon cameras), I have seldom noticed BETTER quality results using Nikon equipment.

You might also consider the Nikon D-40 ($499) kit that comes with the 18-55mm lens.
Another great choice is the Nikon D-60 kit ($649) which also comes with the 18-55mm lens.

These selections are probably the best choices for any beginner to intermediate skill level, offering the most lenses and other accessories, dealers and places to purchase.

I strongly recommend that ALL beginners buy a good book on digital photography AND take a class or two from a Vocational school or Community Education Center in your area.

What digital camera is the best at picking up details for black and white photography?

xblackxspa

I have an Olympus C-4000 and It takes good photos but doesn't get the details I want. I'm hoping to find a camera under $600. I want something that picks up lots of details from far away and up close. I take a lot of nature photos and I'm starting to try portraits.

Answer
Not sure exactly what you mean by 'details'.

A Hasselblad H3D is going to give you the best tonality for Black & White conversions. The Nikon D700 or Canon 5D Mark II would be adequate. I have not seen an APS-C camera that can really do B&W well.

haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?
and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!

Answer
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.

Have you considered a dSLR

Something like the Nikon D3100 goes for 27k, with the 18-55mm kit lens included

It can do 1920x1080 video at 24 fps
Also checkout the Canon EOS 1100D, minus part is it can only do 1280x720 @ 30 fps
And if videos are a priority with you, the Sony SLT-A37 is the clear winner with 1920x1080 video at 60 fps

Do some reading and familiarize yourself
A dSLR is the ultimate photography tool

Ultimate selection you need to make, go to your local camera stores and handle the ones you shortlist

Suggest a good camera for an amateur photography?

Adrian Dso

Suggest a good camera for an amateur / freelancer venturing into professional / commercial photography such as fashion and advertising . Where in India can I buy good cameras that are reasonally priced, digital or manual. Are manual SLRs still in use in commercial photography,?
Whats an SLR and whats the difference between a digital camera and digital SLR?

Answer
Most commercial photographers (taking pictures of products) prefer using view camera. These are the cameras that you see where the photographer puts a black cloth over his head and the camera to take the picture. This is now done with a digital capture back on the camera rather than using film. Fashion photographers on the other hand use any of the professional digital cameras from either Nikon or Canon. The choice of model or brand is still pretty much personal choice and budget. As to finding a place in India to buy one I would recommend that you look up your local professional photographer and pick his brain. You will find them a great resource for helping you decide.

Answer
While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

High mega pixel settings may not be best. It takes longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. When buying a new camera, look for an optical viewfinder (LCD not visible in bright sun) and check replacement battery prices.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom.

You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

I have a digital camera and very intrested in photography. I think I am ready for a little more advanced camera that can take nice high quality photos. I am 14 and i do not know if i am ready for a digital SLR camera. Can you tell me a camera that you think i am ready for?

Answer
If you enjoy photography and you are ready to step up from snapshots, you have some learning ahead of you. You need to learn about film/sensor speed, aperture, and shutter speed, and the way those three elements combine to make an image. You also need to learn about composition, contrast, tone, and lots of other elements of a good image.

My recommendation as far as a tool to go along with this learning process is a fully manual 35mm film SLR camera, one that can take interchangeable lenses, and one where you set the aperture and shutter speed manually before each shot. The good news is that these days, even really nice, professional quality film SLRs are dirt cheap. You can find good ones on craigslist for as little as 75 to 100 bucks, or you can spend a little more to get one from a shop, like a local camera shop or an online shop like www.keh.com where you know it has been checked out to make sure it works, as well as having a return policy if it doesnt. There are lots of brands out there, but I would stick with one from Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Canon, Minolta, or Leica, although I doubt you would find a Leica R camera in your price range. Don't bother with anything else. Of those, I recommend Pentax and Nikon the most, as their old manual lenses still work on their new digital cameras. Look for a Pentax K1000 or Pentax ME, or almost any full manual Nikon, such as the FA, FM2n, or FM3a. Don't get a zoom lens. Zoom lenses instill bad habits in photographers. Get a 50mm non-zoom lens. With that, you will learn to move, to get close to your subject, to hunt for the best angle at which to take your picture.

As to film, check out Kodak BW400CN, which is a black and white film that can be processed at any 1 hour photo lab. It costs about ten bucks for three rolls, and each roll costs five to seven bucks to get processed with a set of prints and a cd with scans of your pictures.

If you get a fully manual film camera with a non zoom lens, you always use it in fully manual mode, and you practice, you will find that in a couple short years that the photographic world is your oyster. If you can make good images with a setup like that, you can make good images with anything. Don't think that you are too young to be able to learn how to do it, either. I started out with a Pentax K1000 and a 50mm lens when I was eight, and if I could do it at eight years old, you can excel at it at 14.

Good luck!

What is a good digital camera for a teen?

Emily M

I'm becoming quite interested in photography, and I'm considering buying a digital camera for my self, but I don't know which ones to buy. I'd like the camera to come in good colors, not be crazy expensive, be able to take video with sound as well, have a decent zoom (comes in more than 3 pt), and to take good quality pictures. Anyone know any good cameras?

Answer
To be honest.....it depends on what are your needs and what you're looking for. If your a casual shooter canon point and shoots are usually the safest bet. If your more serious and actually understand the fundementals of photography, you may want to consider something more advanced, like the Canon G9. It offers true manual control and unrivaled jpeg image quality among compact cameras. If money is no object and you're willing to carry the bulk of extra lens, then a slr is probalbly the camera for you. Among them, Canon and Nikon makes the best. And another concept often misunderstood among newbies- more megapixels DOES NOT mean better image quality. If you ever watched High-def movies (1920x1080) they only measure approx. 2.1 megapixels. So what the point of anything higher if you tv isn't even capable of displaying every single pixel? You'd be better off looking for a bigger and higher-quality sensor, which would offer better dynamic range and better high-iso performance. If you did not understand what the last half of my answer meant, I suggest that you stick with a compact point and shoot, or at least consider reading this: http://www.videojug.com/interview/dslr-vs-point-and-shoot-digital-cameras

I have a HP Photosmart 945 with an 8x optical and 7x digital zoom. I am considering a Canon Rebel for a replacement and want to know what lens I would need to meet or exceed the range of the my current camera.

Answer
Firstly, you can disregard any importance in using digital zoom. The HP 945 has an optical focal length equivalent of 37mm-300mm.
So, you will need a lens with a focal length in that range or more. You might have to buy at least two lenses to achieve that, though.

I have provided you with some links that may be helpful...

What recommendation for a digital camera brand and model?

Hime-Sama

I would like to buy a digital camera but I'm not sure what to look at. Design is not an important aspect. What I would want is that it can produce a good quality picture and doesn't need much editing. I'm not so sure whether to pick a higher megapixel because some review states that higher doesn't mean better, though I'm not sure why. Could someone give me a guidance in choosing a good digital camera? Thanks. =)

Answer
I would suggestion these are good quality digital cameras that take good pictures, good of megapixel, slim, etc.

what is the best camera for photography?

canon digital camera 4000 on Canon EOS 450D - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
canon digital camera 4000 image

nicki

You can learn more about the technical specifications of each of these two cameras at these websites:

Why does my digital camera take such contrasty pictures?

Niles 2041

I have a new Canon Power Shot D10 compact digital camera. The quality of the pictures seems good as far as resolution and color accuracy, but it does not seem to handle a wide range of brightness in a scene. It seems to add contrast. I'm not talking about extreme backlit conditions, just ordinary landscapes in direct sunlight. I also have an "old" Sony DSC-717, which does not have this effect-the contrast is very accurate. Is it the image sensor?

Answer
No. It's probably the way the camera is set up. Read your owner's manual, it will show you what menu you need to enter to lower the contrast.

What is the best compact digital camera?

My dad mentioned to me that i should get a G12, but as i'm 16 i'd like the camera to be pocket size, so i was thinking of getting a canon s95.

But what is the best compact digital compact camera out? (no maximum price suggested)

Answer
I would consider Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera

10.0-megapixel sensor combined with the DIGIC 4 Image Processor creates Canon's HS System
Capture 720p HD video in stereo sound; play back on an HDTV via the HDMI output
f/2.0 lens for low light conditions or shallow depth-of-field; control ring for intuitive manual control
3.8x optical zoom; 28mm wide-angle lens; Canon's Hybrid IS to compensate for angular and shift camera shake
Capture images to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards (not included)

How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?

I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.
I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Answer
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it.

This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.

Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom.

I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

What is the cheapest way to get a digital SLR camera?

Ja

And don't say steal it!
I am a student photographer, and I used a standard canon digital camera, but I wan't something with more optical zoom that can be digital. I already have a canon film slr that my mom used to have, and frankly it is quite old and a hassle to carry around. I decided it might be best if I went ahead and invested in an slr, but i know those are extremely pricey! So, do you know where the best deals are for slr cameras, both on and offline?

Or, if not, do you know what the best slr STYLED digital cameras are that are out there?

Thank you so much!

Answer
Depending on how serious you are into photography and what type of photography you are doing. I would personally recommend a second hand or refurbished digital SLR for starters. I bought mine second hand and paid only 1/4th of the original price.I own Canon EOS 10D,you can see some of my photography on my website.

Then for the lens, the only problem with second hand is to be very very careful. You'll need to check and make sure that the glass has no marks and there is no dust inside, otherwise buy a new lens. Oh as you said you have a canon film slr, if it has autofocus lenses, you can use them with the digital slr so buy a body only and use existing lenses.

Also note that, because the digital slr doesn't have sensor same size as 35mm, so whichever lens you use, you have to multiply it by 1.6 so for example 17mm lens will be converted to approx 27mm on digital slr.

Hope this helps.

P.S. : To start a photography as a student, none of the compact digital or bridge cameras will help, u'll need digital slr (depending on how serious you are as i said). Otherwise yes there are some digital bridge cameras which provides you with almost all features of an SLR but too slow and quality is not same. A canon bridge camera for example is Canon PowerShot G series or Canon PowerShot S2IS.

Setting up a home photo studio to take pcitures of my daughter?

canon digital camera questions image

Curious Ac

I am looking to set up a home studio to take pictures of my daughter. I will probably buy a Canon Rebel SLR Digital Camera.

My questions are:

1. Is this a good enough camera to take nice pictures of my baby?
2. What else do I need (lights, background, etc) to set this up?
3. How much will this cost in total?

Thank you.
This is for my 2 month old baby daughter. I figure if I am going to spend a lot of money with photographers I might as well buy the equipment and take pictures whenever I want. thanks.

Answer
A rebel is fine for this purpose and as photo ace mentioned - savage makes a nice inexpensive backdrop stand that you can use paper roles or cloth with (the paper roles are pretty cheap). For lights, alien bees are always a good start and two B400s (or even one) should do the trick. As for a light meter, well, if time is no object you can always just fire away until it looks good.

I would offer one caution, however. Taking high quality pictures of your daughter has very little to do with equipment. If you know very little or nothing about photography, you could possibly spend a $1000 on all this equipment and be very disappointed in the results. DSLRs are harder to use than point and shoot cameras. You have to learn about lighting ratios, exposure and post processing. I've spent a lifetime learning and while my clients are normally happy with the results, I always see something I could have done better. Maybe a cheap digital point and shoot would be a good place to start and then go from there. You can do a lot of portrait sittings for $1000. Good luck and have fun!

How much am I looking at paying to repair my camera lens?

LadyD

It's a retractable lens (I guess?? I'm not a camera person) but anywho, it was all the way out like I was about to take a picture and I accidentally dropped it on tile floor. Now that just made one of the levels of the retractable lens bend in a little, and it's done that before and I've just popped it back into place (which I'm sure i not the best idea but thats how I learn) so I attempt to pop it back into place and it totally goes way inside and the par t ( I guess the shutter that opens and closes when you turn it on and off) just broke off...all of it still works but when I try to turn it on the lens tries to come out but it can't cause it's stuck inside. So anyway...I haven't messed with it anymore cause apparently I can't fix it but I was wondering how much the repair of this would cost. It's a Canon digital camera if that matters. If this doesn't make sense just e-mail any questions. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Unfortunately it will likely cost more to repair than to replace. Even if its under warranty, abuse such as dropping isn't covered. You may as well begin shopping for its replacement.
Since you didn't say what model Canon you have I'm guessing its a digicam. Check the Sept. 2007 issue of Shutterbug magazine for a review of five 10 megapixel digicams. You can also access it at shutterbug.com.

When you get your new camera, secure it around your neck with a good neck strap. In 36 years I've yet to drop a camera. My camera is either in my camera bag or hanging around my neck.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example and search for your camera of choice at the upper left.

This may not be an SLR, but Canon seems to make the best cameras for the money.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen which is almost impossible to see in bright sun so you should try to find one that also has an optical view finder.

Check replacement battery prices when buying a new camera. Some Lithium batteries cost almost as much as the camera and may be only good for 200 shots between charges.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Check this more for the money camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price.

You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

How do you download pictures back onto a Canon Powershot digital camera?

Audrey

I have a Canon Powershot SD750 (Digital ELPH). I can download my pictures from my camera to my computer, but how do I download my pictures from my computer back to my camera?

Thanks.

Answer
Does this particular Canon model have internal memory?

Or are you asking if you can download pictures from your computer back onto your camera's SD card?

I believe if you click on your folder, that has the pictures you want to download back to SD card, then next choose 'copy folder' and you specify which drive (maybe F:) your SD card is inserted into that you want that folder's files copied into. Or click and drag, your contents into where you want it copied to.

Hope not too confusing.
