I bought a Canon digital camera 4 years ago and it broke down 1 month ago. to repair it will cost me $200. is it normal?

Answer
Canon is a good company, but nothing lasts forever, you have to realize it. If you cherish your camera you can repair it but better get another one, I would advise another Canon as you already have the software and the gadget for it.

Can a Canon EOS SLR film camera use Canon digital SLR lenses?

canon digital camera zoom lenses on ... megapixel digital SLR camera with 18-55mm zoom lens at Crutchfield.com
canon digital camera zoom lenses image

Uncle Penn

I've got an older 35 mm Canon EOS SLR. I'm seeing a lot of the 28-135mm zoom lenses on sale that come with the Canon 40D digital cameras. Can I use that lens on my film camera?

Answer
You sure can. All EF lenses can be used on both film and digital Canon cameras. The only lenses that your film camera can not use are the EFs lenses these are designed specifically for the cropped sensors on DSLR cameras. For instance many DSLR cameras come with a EFs 18-55mm lens. This would be the equivalent to the EF 28-90mm lens that comes with many film cameras.

The reason why Canon produces these EFs lenses is that because of the cropped sensor (smaller than 35mm film) the field of view is magnified by 1.6

This is great for a telephoto lens. Your 200 mm lens becomes a 320mm lens. On the wide angle end you lose out. This is why Canon has lenses like the EFs 18-55 mm and the EFs 10-22mm.

Bottom line make sure it is an EF lens and not an EFs lens and you will have no problems.

What is the cheapest way to get a digital SLR camera?

Ja

And don't say steal it!
I am a student photographer, and I used a standard canon digital camera, but I wan't something with more optical zoom that can be digital. I already have a canon film slr that my mom used to have, and frankly it is quite old and a hassle to carry around. I decided it might be best if I went ahead and invested in an slr, but i know those are extremely pricey! So, do you know where the best deals are for slr cameras, both on and offline?

Or, if not, do you know what the best slr STYLED digital cameras are that are out there?

Thank you so much!

Answer
Depending on how serious you are into photography and what type of photography you are doing. I would personally recommend a second hand or refurbished digital SLR for starters. I bought mine second hand and paid only 1/4th of the original price.I own Canon EOS 10D,you can see some of my photography on my website.

Then for the lens, the only problem with second hand is to be very very careful. You'll need to check and make sure that the glass has no marks and there is no dust inside, otherwise buy a new lens. Oh as you said you have a canon film slr, if it has autofocus lenses, you can use them with the digital slr so buy a body only and use existing lenses.

Also note that, because the digital slr doesn't have sensor same size as 35mm, so whichever lens you use, you have to multiply it by 1.6 so for example 17mm lens will be converted to approx 27mm on digital slr.

Hope this helps.

P.S. : To start a photography as a student, none of the compact digital or bridge cameras will help, u'll need digital slr (depending on how serious you are as i said). Otherwise yes there are some digital bridge cameras which provides you with almost all features of an SLR but too slow and quality is not same. A canon bridge camera for example is Canon PowerShot G series or Canon PowerShot S2IS.

What is a good digital camera that takes HD video AND photos?

canon digital camera 5d mark ii on Canon EOS 5D Mark II Review | Digital SLR Cameras Guide
canon digital camera 5d mark ii image

Starfish

I want a camera that will be awesome to film with and awesome to take still photos with.

I know there's EOS 5D Mark II, but what else is there?

Answer
There is the Nikon D5000, Canon EOS 500D, and the Pentax K-x.

Here is quick price estimate:
Nikon D5000 12MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $650
Canon EOS Rebel T1i (500D) 15MP DSLR w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens - $769
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom - $550

The 1st link is to a web page that has these 3 DSLR cameras listed so that you can compare features and spec but also there are links for each of these cameras to review pages that include sample images.

I am a Nikon user, but if I were buying one of these cameras right now, it would be the Pentax K-x. I have been reading it up on this camera and I have come across some impressive information. Below I included some links, the photo.net link is to a forum where a photograper posted some black & white images shot at some high ISOs (6400 ISO, 10000 ISO, and 1250 ISO) and they look great. The reviews are good and to me the video I have seen on youtube looks good.

Hope this helps.

Why do most movie makers use film, whereas most photographers use digital?

xav.90

Shooting a film is a tougher task, won't it be more convenient if they use digital cameras?

The Canon 7D and 5D mark ii are used for The Avengers,

so are DSLRS capable to do the whole filming process instead of movie cameras? If so, why are 'most' movies are shot with 35mm/ 16mm films?

Plus, what are camcorders for? They are meant to do the recording job as well right? Why not many shoot movies with camcorders?
And one more question:

Are those who shoot movies, considered as photographer?

I meant they are capable to produce nice moving images, I thought they might be able to produce great photographers too?
@keerok: I didn't mean it in that way. I was talking about the whole processing stuffs, must be much more complicated and costly. Plus, the processing time.

With digital, when things went wrong, you can easily spot it (replay button) and make a new one.
But with film you will need to process the film first and spot the wrong thing, then only you can make a new one; but with a new film roll which would add an additional cost to the production.

Answer
it's all about the quality of the final product. With film movies the quality on the big screen is so superior to anything else out there. The quality of the color and just the overall look is far and away superior.

Digital photography is a different matter. It's all about convenience. We can now do a pretty job with digital photos but they will never look like film, never. Film has a quality that is unequaled.

However many major studios are going digital slowly and forcing their theaters to install digital systems so we suppose that soon film will be a thing of the past in Hollywood. Too bad because it was a wonderful medium.

Canon PowerShot A1300 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Image Stabilized Zoom 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 720p HD Video Recording Great camera for the price. Purchased the camera in May 2012 to shoot family events, friends ect. You could not ask for a better price vs performance camera. Very simple to use, excellent picture and video quality. I would suggest getting a cushioned camera case that includes the USB thumb drive reader for $10, the case is perfect for travel and storage when not in use. The USB reader is a great option when offloading the memory card.

What is the difference between DSLR Canon "Kiss Digital X" and "400D" cameras?

canon digital camera singapore on Canon PowerShot SX40 HS Digital Camera Price in Singapore, Specs and ...
canon digital camera singapore image

Me

From what I'm told they are about the same camera, just marketed differently around the world. I was also told the Kiss comes with a better lens.

Answer
To combat the "gray market" Canon has given the same camera different names or designations.

JAPAN: EOS KISS DIGITAL X

AMERICA: EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi

EUROPE, ASIA, OCEANIA: EOS 400D DIGITAL

A "gray market" camera (or lens) is one bought in another country with a better currency exchange rate and imported - legally - into a country where it can be sold for less than a camera imported by the licensed importer. So an importer buys cameras and lenses in Singapore, imports them into the USA and undersells ones imported by the USA affiliate of Canon, Nikon, etc.

Although this is legal, the consumer who buys a "Gray Market" camera or lens has no USA warranty protection. The warranty is only good where the camera or lens was originally sold.

Can a Canon EOS 5D Mark II Camera Digital considered a PROFESSIONAL camera?

canon digital camera 4500 on Canon PowerShot IXUS 1000 HS / SD4500 IS / IXY 50S Digital Camera
canon digital camera 4500 image

edchaves77

Answer
First off, any camera can be a professional camera when used by a pro. The 5DMII certainly is used by many pros. However I'll assume that what you are really asking is for the differences that make a camera be considered 'pro' rather than advanced amateur. Typically those have a lot to do with the durability of the camera and only somewhat to do with the features. Can the shutter handle 100s of thousands of actuations? How good is the weather sealing? How solid is the frame? How much flexibility is built into the camera software aimed at pros's workflow? An example of the last item can be something as simple as being able to better organize directories and image names. Examples of the other categories are found by looking at the 1D Mark III specs. It is very definitely a pro camera despite being only 10mp and 1.3x (halfway between APS and 35mm). When we look at the specs we see entries like:

... 10 fps, with a burst rate up to 110 full-resolution JPEG images or 30 RAW images
... AF system with 19 user-selectable AF points and 26 additional "assist points";
...enhanced weather resistance and outstanding reliability: featuring a shutter that's durability-tested to 300,000 exposures.

The 5D with 21mp and full 35mm coverage is way advanced on those items. However, it has 9 AF points compared to 45 for the 1DMIII, it has 35 zone TTL metering compared to the 63 zones on the 1DMIII and of course the 5DMII has a 150,000 actuation shutter vs the 300,000 of the 1DMIII.

Bottom line to the question is that the 5D is a very advanced amateur camera that is *very* suitable for professional use but doesn't quite meet the durability and features that marks a pro camera.

The 21mp pro camera is the 1DsMIII which is $7000. I would probably choose the 5DMII saving $4500 and getting the video capability, but the 1DsMIII is a more solid camera.

What is the best digital camera you can get, and were can i buy it?

Q. What stores and how much please?
And explain if you can

Answer
Nikon D2x is pretty darn good. I think that they're only around $4500 now.

do you really want the best digital camera? Or do you want a little pocket consumer camera like everyone else. If so, I'd look at either the Canon SD700IS, the FujiF30 or the Panasonic FX01 (or newer FX07 if it's available).

Shop at Bhphotovideo.com, buydig.com or Newegg.com.

Like Peter's main Camera? And are there cameras that look like it but arent film? Because i think his is film and I need a digital one.

Answer
In this image from Spiderman, Peter is using a Canon F1

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1809&bih=948&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=camera+used+by+peter+parker&btnG=#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=0tJBypHnx4TEeM%3A%3BHcf2hJeQmY3kXM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fthebillfold.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F12%252FPeter-Parker-on-assignment.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fthebillfold.com%252F2013%252F01%252Ffriday-estimate-14%252F%3B1600%3B1202

In this photo, he is using a Yashica Electro 35:

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1809&bih=948&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=camera+used+by+peter+parker&btnG=#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=j-hUXCli5ikV_M%3A%3BrEjFNqMgxKwP8M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.collegefashion.net%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F07%252Fpeter-header.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.collegefashion.net%252Finspiration%252Fgeek-chic-fashion-inspired-by-the-amazing-spider-man%252F%3B600%3B300

And that strap is pretty readily available on eBay etc. I actually happen to own it. Just search eBay for "hippie camera strap" or "embroidered camera strap".

Anyway, yes, Peter Parker is depicted as being a 35mm photojournalist, not digital. The Yashica Electro 35 is a rangefinder camera which is a very classic photojournalist camera because it is small and quiet. While in real life, no professional photojournalist has probably ever used a Yashica, preferring something very costly such as Leica or Zeiss, I'm quite sure that the director was sending a signal that a cheap Yashica is all one needs to take a good photo. In fact, while the Spiderman movies were shot on digital cameras, they used film for explosion and some action scenes. And while we're at it, many action hero movies such as Transformers and the Dark Knight series were shot entirely on film.

There are good reasons for this and if you really want to learn about photography, it would be worth exploring by picking up a 35mm camera! I can't imagine any reason that you as an amateur photographer NEED a digital camera over a film camera, or vice versa. They are just two different approaches to photography and workflow. If you do a little thinking and reading, you may find that you don't NEED a digital camera and that you could learn a lot from the message being sent by the director through Peter Parker's character; film is still relevant.

The Fuji X100 and X10 are modern digital cameras that LOOK like old 35mm rangefinders. But when you buy cameras like this, you are paying a premium for a digital camera that has unnecessary cosmetics. It would be more economical and educational in many cases to just shoot on a vintage 35mm camera.

Enjoy whatever camera you choose though!

I have an old Canon S230 Digital Elph with the Zoombrowser software that came with it 5 years ago. I recently bought a new Elph SD1100, I think. The new software overwrote the old. When I try to upload photos off old camera with it, it says no camera is recognized. I went to the Canon website and downloaded the update but it still says no camera is recognized. Help! What can I do? How do I get them onto my computer or Shutterfly? They are very important to me. Thank you!

Answer
You will have to get a USB card reader and put your old CF card in it and use your computer skills to copy them to your computer.

If you buy a card reader that will take both CF and SD cards, you will be able to use it when transferring your images from your new camera too... keeping your camera out of the loop a good thing

my computer will not recognize my camera?

I have installed the software for my Canon eos digital camera, but my computer will not recognize it at all. Is there something else I need to do?

Answer
Have you considered on using a Card Reader? A Card Reader is one of the Most Preferred Method by Many of Us Regulars,

Just Connect the Card Reader to the Computer. Remove the Memory Card from the Camera. Insert the Memory Card into the Card Reader. Then Start Downloading, It's that easy and No software is needed. Also Card Readers can be used on many types of computer. Card Readers can be found at many electronic stores and doesn't cost that much.

The all time winner bargain compact digital camera is the Canon 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD1000 [not the SD1100 [IS] 7.1 with an added 2- gig memory card which when set in the manual mode for "Vivid" colors and videos at 30 fps in 320 dpi format provides killer images and videos under low light conditions. It's especially good for low-light concerts. The macro feature is superb for taking closeups of small butterflies, insects, etc. It currently sells for $140 at techgearnow.com:

Where can I find a good water proof camera at a decent price?

canon digital camera and price image

ReRe504

I'm planning on going to a water park this year and would like to bring my Canon digital camera but I don't want it damaged. So what's a good water proof camera I can bring but at a good price?

Answer
You have several options.

The cheapest option: Buy an disposable underwater film camera from Kodak or Fujifilm, which is essentially a disposable camera in a sealed plastic case.

Next cheapest option: Go onto eBay and look for a Canon WP-1 underwater 35mm film camera, usually used for around $20.

Next option: Find an underwater case for your existing Canon digital camera. That's what I did for my Canon point and shoot. The case cost about $125 and it's available at places like http://www.bhphotovideo.com for the Canon-branded model. However, you can also buy generic underwater soft cases for under $50 for a point and shoot. Check out http://www.aquapac.net which has cases typically sold at places like REI.

Finally, the most expensive option: a new digital camera that's waterproof. Both Olympus and Pentax make such cameras. For Olympus, look at the Olympus 1030SW or 850SW. For Pentax, try the Pentax W60 or W30.

What digital camera should I ask for Christmas?

Mr. Sam

I decided this Christmas that I want a new digital camera. Basically, price is not a problem, but I want high quality pictures and possibly movies. I'm looking for a camera that's relatively small & boxy. Not a big odd shaped camera. If I were to choose a color, it would be black. Now, I know that Canon Rebels take superb quality pictures, but I'm looking for a little digital camera that I can carry around, and isn't a hassle, like the rebel. So, a digital camera, relatively small, boxy, and black. Any suggestions? 10 points to best answer!

Answer
The plug you are talking about sounds like a video out plug that you would plug into your television. Your best bet for taking photos off your camera is to get a CARD READER. It plugs into your computer with a USB, you put your card in the slot, and it should pop open and you can look at the photos, save them on your computer, burn a CD, etc. I like this option because you do not have to use the battery power from your camera. And most of the card readers are under $20. I hope this helps!

Why are my pictures on Facebook not as clear when i upload them?

Alissa

I have a Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 HS 16 MP Digital Camera, the photos are clear on my camera but when I uploaded them to Facebook, the photos are not soft anymore, the colors are ruined, they're more on contrast. I'm upset. Please help. Thanks.
PS: What should I do to make photos clear?

Answer
Facebook down-converts photos so they take up less space.

People viewing your photo on-line only need 100 KB, not the 5 MB raw photo from your camera. The high-resolution image is only required for printing 8x10 colored glossy photos. Otherwise, you're wasting lots of storage.

I'm 16 and have been saving up for my own digital camera. I want one that is nice and takes good pictures. I don't want to spend more than $150, and even that's a bit much. But honestly i don't know anything about what's good or what to look for or what brands and stores are good. Help!
Also, I would like something with good features but still easy to use.

Answer
First off, don't worry about megapixels. All new cameras have plenty of them. If you want to get creative, look for a camera that has a manual setting. Also look for one with optical zoom and not digital zoom. Digital zoom has horrible quality. Stick with the major brands like Canon and Nikon. They have been building cameras for years and make good quality products. At your price range, you can get a good basic camera.

I want to get a digital camera, and I want to know which kinds I should look at. I want something(somewhat) small(not so small that I'll lose it in a minute). It shouldn't be too expensive ($200 is near the top of what I'm willing to pay). And I want something that is easy to use.
It would be used for taking pictures of the kids I babysit for, and of my friends. I would delete a few pics, email most, and print a few.

Answer
I've been a camera nut for 40 years, and have all kinds. Most people overbuy on digital cameras, thinking the more megapixels, the better. The truth is , if you only want to keep pics on your computer and make standard size prints, a 1.3mp cam ( no longer avail) will look as good as a 6mp cam on the computer screen or print. However, the higher the mp's the higher the resolution. 3.2mp are almost extinct, so I'd go for a 4 or 5mp camera, these will easily be in the $100-$170 price range. With 5mp, you can blow up prints to like 16 x20 I think, which you'll never do, probably 8x10 at most. And remember the higher the megapixels, the more memory needed for each pic you take and bigger drain on batteries, which digital cams eat. So don't buy bigger than you need. My current recommendation , which I just bought for myself a few weeks ago, is a compact FE-115 Olympus...small with easy to use controls and several shooting modes as night scenes, portrait, and anti shake mode which is important. It also has a great macro and supermacro mode where you can get as close as like an inch. It's a lot of camera for the money with big easy controls for not so tiny fingers. The screen is smaller than many but high resolution for clear images. I paid $149 at circuit city and got a 512MB free memory card worth $50, so really paid only $100 for a great cam. Been very happy with the results. With this size card, I can take about 375 pics I believe in the high quality mode. But be sure to buy the rechargeable batteries for any camera you choose ,or you'll be changing AAs about every 15 minutes. P.S. Canon and Sony also make great products, so try to stick with these 3 brands.

How do you broadcast on the internet using a digital camera?

best canon digital camera with video on Canon Powershot S3 IS Top View
best canon digital camera with video image

19 year ol

I have a Canon digital camera. I have the USB chord and another wire that has a black and yellow outputs on the end of the chord, opposite of where it goes into the camera. These are the only 2 wires my camera came with. How can I start broadcasting. I need step by step instructions.
(Do I need to download any programs?)

Answer
Maybe you can't. A digital camera is normally made for shooting still images or taking videos that are saved as files. Most of them are not capable of live video. Get a USB web cameras instead. By the way, who are you trying to "broadcast" to? You probably want a instant message program that supports video chat.

How can I change video format on my digital camera?

eko

I have a Canon G9 digital camera. whenever i take videos and download them to my computer, the files get saved as AVI. I cannot burn these to DVD so i want to know how i can change the format to Mpeg so i can burn them. Does anyone know how to do this? I would really appreciate any advice.. thanks

Answer
Standard DVD players read the .Vob format, the files you have now are in AVI format..

I would recommend you download ConvertXtoDVD. Ive been using it for a year now, never had a problem!

It will convert your video files to the dvd format readable by all standard dvd players, then burn automatically to DVD!

it is easy to use, fast and it works perfect for me.. give it a try, you'll love it

1. Download ConvertXtoDVD here:
http://convertxtodvd.burner-software.com/

It can convert any video file.. like wmv, mpeg, asf, mp4, avi to dvd

2. Add or drag-n-drop as many video files as the DVD can handle

3. Insert blank DVD

4. Click "Convert"

5. Enjoy watching those video files on your home DVD player! =)

ConvertXtoDVD has a lot of extra nice features too,
for example you can make your own ANIMATED DVD menu or auto-generate it, add subtitles, auto-burn to dvd or save your conversion.

Looking for a DSLR camera?

best canon digital camera 2012 review on Top 5 Best Canon Digital Cameras [Features & Price In India]
best canon digital camera 2012 review image

Kelly

I'm looking for a my first DSLR camera and I'm on the look out for any suggestions you might have! Its my first one as I said, so I'm not looking for anything too fancy. It just has to have the basics as well as great quality. I would probably want it to be Nikon or Canon. It would be amazing if it has film recording option as well. Also I'm looking to stay under $700 if that is at all possible. Thanks!

Answer
I can't think of a single DSLR currently available that doesn't have video capability. No DIGITAL camera has "film recording".

In my opinion you should expand your camera search to include Pentax and Sony as well as Nikon and Canon because Pentax and Sony have some features not available in comparably priced models from Nikon and Canon.

Sony.
The Sony SLT series of APS-C sensor size DSLR cameras (a58, a65, a77) use Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology which allows for full-time, continuous phase-detect auto focus whether you're shooting still images or full 1080p HD video. Also, the SLT series of cameras have a focusing motor in the camera body as well as Sony's version of Image Stabilization (IS). Plus, the SLT cameras use the legacy Minolta Maxxum "A" lens mount introduced in 1985. There is still a good selection of previously owned Minolta Maxxum AF lenses available that will have full functionality on any of the SLT models and be stabilized as well. Both Nikon and Canon have their respective versions of IS in some but not all of their lenses so you pay for it again and again. The Sony SLT a65 was chosen by TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) as their top "DSLR - Advanced" in 2012.

Pentax.
The Pentax K-30 is currently the lowest-priced Weather Resistant (WR) DSLR on the market. WR means you can safely use the K-30 in the rain or in very dusty conditions. It doesn't mean you can take it swimming though. The K-30 uses the legacy Pentax "K" lens mount introduced in 1975 so any Pentax or third-party "K" mount lens ever made can be used on the K-30. Older manual focus lenses will meter on the K-30 and thanks to the focus motor in the camera body auto focus lenses will auto focus on it. Like Sony, Pentax has their version of IS in the camera body so any lens used becomes a stabilized lens.

Nikon.
Since approximately 1959 Nikon has used the "F" lens mount which gives Nikon the lead in backwards capability. However, you have to go to the D90 or D7000 to get a focusing motor in the camera body so on the lower-level Nikon DSLR cameras (D3100, D3200, D5100, D5200) only the more expensive AF-S lenses will auto focus. The older AF lenses can be used but only with manual focus. Nikon currently offers DSLR lenses in DX (for crop-sensor cameras) and FX (for their full-frame cameras) designations. An FX lens is perfectly suited on a DX or FX body and a DX lens can be used on an FX body although the camera will automatically "crop" the full-frame sensor to the size of a DX sensor. This means a loss of megapixels but at least a DX lens can be used on an FX body. Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, Nikon only has their version of IS (they call it VR) in some of their lenses.

Canon.
When Canon introduced their Rebel EOS auto focus 35mm film cameras in 1988 they abandoned their legacy "FD/FL" lens mount for the "EF" lens mount. Of course this limits their backwards compatibility. Canon has added additional confusion with their lower-priced "EF-S" lenses for their crop-sensor cameras (T3, T3i, SL1, 60D/60Da* and 7D). The "EF-S" lenses CANNOT be used on a Canon full-frame DSLR such as the 6D, 5D and 1D. Anyone who buys a crop-sensor Canon DSLR and adds 2 or 3 "EF-S" lenses and later decides to upgrade to a Canon full-frame DSLR will have to replace all of their lenses. Like Nikon, Canon chose to offer their version of IS in some but not all of their lenses. * The 60Da is a factory-modified 60D intended for use in astrophotography.

I suggest reading reviews of all the various camera models at http://www.imaging-resource.com

Best choice point and shoot ($300-$450)?

Rachel Cro

I am looking for a good camera for indoor pictures. I have 3 little kids and take a million shots indoors, but the little $100 camera I have doesn't take decent pictures. I've looked into it a bit and have found a few with good reviews and decent picture quality. The few I've looked into:

Olympus TG-1iHS 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Optical Zoom and 3.0-inch LCD (Black) (2012 Model)
Nikon COOLPIX P310 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4.2x Zoom NIKKOR Glass Lens and Full HD 1080p Video
Nikon COOLPIX L810 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 26x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and 3-inch LCD (Red)
Fujifilm XF1/Blk 12MP Digital Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Black)
Olympus XZ-1 10 MP Digital Camera with f1.8 Lens and 3-Inch OLED Monitor (Black)
Canon PowerShot SX260 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Image Stabilized Zoom 25mm Wide-Angle Lens and 1080p Full-HD Video (Black)
Panasonic DMC-FZ150K 12.1 MP Digital Camera with CMOS Sensor and 24x Optical Zoom (Black)
Nikon COOLPIX P510 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 42x Zoom NIKKOR ED Glass Lens and GPS Record Location (Black)

I was wondering if anyone had one of these or a decent knowledge of them and could advise me on which would be best for what I'm looking for. Or another suggestion of a camera that takes good indoor pictures. I work a lot in low light and with fast kids. I'm not expecting a miracle - point and shoot cameras can only do so much, but... Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
Nikon and canon make quality cameras. They will give you a camera that will last. Most of these cameras will brake easily, but canons and nikons won't. You can choose any from these two companies.

What kind of camera is right for me?

Livia

I'm looking for a more fancy camera to snap pictures a little bit quicker of my newborn son. Right now I have a nice small digital camera but would like to invest in something a little nicer with more features that will produce better quality photos but nothing too expensive ($300-$400).

There is also a full review of the P500 in the October 2011 issue of Shutterbug Magazine. My subscription copy always arrives about 3 weeks early. This review will not be available on-line for at least a month so if you'd like to read it you'll have to buy the magazine.

I have a question about different digital camera models?

best quality canon digital camera on Canon Powershot Camera A720 | Top Tech Reviews
best quality canon digital camera image

Courtney C

I am looking to buy a Canon digital camera. I realize that there are many different models. I was wondering if the later models, or the ones with higher numbers (ex. SD1000 & SD850) are better than the others. Also, I am looking for very good image quality, reletivley small sized,at least 7 mega
pixels, and the option to enlarge pictures without them losing their quality. Which Canon model do you think I would be best off buying?

Answer
There is no definite rule for determining quality or features, especially from a company that makes so many models. The best thing to do is compare reviews of the models that have a feature set you are interested in. To see a fairly objective review of different camera models try some of the on line web sites.

I like Steve's Digicams because there are reviews of many cameras, it is pretty open minded (fair) and has a very consistent testing method. Each review is divided into sections and has one called Steve's Conclusion that summarizes the good & bad features of the camera.

The site is also very well organized so you can find cameras by mfg., no of MP or when it was reviewed and there are many links to additional information.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

what mic should i use for my digital camera?

ABC,

I have a powershot A2300 canon digital camera and was wondering what inexpensive mic I should get for it so I will have good sound and audio quality. I also have a sony DCR-SX85 camcorder and was wondering if they could take the same mic or not. I am also wondering if I need a any other equipment besides a mic because I don't want to spend that much money. thank you sorry about all the questions.

Answer
You can't plug a mic into your camera, so an external mic isn't going to help.

Sticking with the on-board mic is not a good option either, as I'm sure you've noticed.

That leaves a Portable Digital Recorder as your best option. Something like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/757065-REG/Tascam_DR_05_DR_05_Portable_Handheld_Digital.html is what you want. You record your video on the camera and your audio on the device, then mix the two in post. You just replace the audio recorded by the camera with the audio recorded by the device.

How do you format a memory card on a digital camera?

canon digital camera website on Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera
canon digital camera website image

endlessdar

Anyone know? I have an A550 Canon Digital Camera and need to format the memory card.

Answer
For what it's worth, on my Nikon D200, I can go to the set up menu and format is my first submenu choice.

I would suggest opening the shooting menu on you A550 and see if there is a format choice.

If you no longer have your user manual, you could try going to the Canon website for assistance.

Does anyone know a reliable website to buy a camera?

I have been scammed by low priced sites, such as 86photoandvideo, and am reading about other "companies" scamming consumers. Anyone know of a reliable website to buy a canon digital camera?

Answer
I've always had good experiences with bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com, and amazon.com.
