Need help deciding on a new camera..Nikon or Canon?

Adelyn

I can't spend more than $500-600. I am thinking about getting either a Nikon D40 or a Canon Digital Rebel Xs.If you have used either or both of these cameras please let me know what you think of them! Which would you recommend?
P.S. If you are going to suggest another camera don't even mention Kodak or Olympus...they suck :)
Thanks in advance! =]
I have never owned either brand so thats why I am unsure. I have had a Kodak Easyshare and A Casio Exilim. Both just simple point and shoot cameras so I am ready for something closer to what a photog would use :]

Answer
Canon cameras seem to perform very well and would be my first choice, but would prefer to give you all the information I have and let you make an informed decision. Hope the following will help!

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The following link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/

What gives a camera its picture quality? The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.
My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. What should I know about cleaning my Canon Rebel XS digital camera and what supplies do I need?

C.J.Darlin

I am preparing to buy a Canon Rebel XS and don't know anything about how to clean the lenses or the camera itself. Should I be buying any supplies with the camera that I'll need in the future (i.e. canned air, cloth, etc.)? I'd like to make sure I take care of this thing well. What should I know ahead of time about the care and maintenance of this camera?

Answer
Just buy the camera, attach a Skylight or UV filter to the lens straight from the store, get some lens cleaning kits for the front of the lens which is basically the filter, the viewfinder and the LCD at the back. If you only use one lens, never take it off the camera to eliminate the chances of dust entering the body. Don't wipe it with any solution or water. A clean soft dry cloth will do for the rest of the camera's exterior will do. Canned air? You might want to avoid that. The pressure might knock the mirror off it's natural position and worse, push more dirt further into the crevices of the lens and body. That takes care of the cleaning part.

Remove the batteries before storing. Store the camera in a dry and well ventilated area. Never place it with your clothes in the cabinet. It would be nice if it had it's own air-tight box and throw in some Silica gel dessicants in there to handle the moisture. You can get a dry box with a hygrometer if you really want the best in moisture control. Storage, check.

Remember to use it regularly. The camera likes being used. Always wear the strap when using the camera. Do not store the strap together with the camera when not in use for a long time. The strap is the highest source of moisture that can affect your prized possession. Hand-wash your strap if you happen to perspire on it. Strap, the camera's life-saver - very important.

So, what's all the fuss about moisture? It stains the glass. Worse, it attracts fungi that can physically destroy the coatings of your lens.

canon digital camera warranty?

how does the warranty work?.......some people say u hav to mail it to canon to repair ur camera....my mom says u hav to take it to some place for it to be repaired...how does it work....(btw-i live in reno, nevada)....there's some dust under the screen, it's not that big of a deal but i hate it lol

Answer
https://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=OnlineRepairBookingAct

If it is a Canon Warranty, it has to be sent back to Canon. You're mom is mistaken.

Dust under the screen is probably not covered. The manufacturer warranties usually only cover manufacturing defects. You are probably better off taking it to a camera store to get cleaned.

digital camera.......?

what kind of camera does the jonas brothers use to record their videos? there camera works really well and i would like to get it for christmas but i don't know what it is called.

Answer
Not sure what camera they use, but have had great results with a low priced Canon Camcorder. Most cameras don't do as well as Camcorders at video, are much better at photos.

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $149.99 at Best Buy store yesterday.

High mega pixel settings may not be best. It takes longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. When buying a new camera, look for an optical viewfinder (LCD not visible in bright sun) and check replacement battery prices.

Digital Camera....?

[un]bro/ke

What is a good yet cheaper priced digital. Thanks!

Answer
Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_a620%2Ccanon_a630%2Ccanon_a640&show=all

If you want to trim the budget a little, the Canon Powershot A430, A530 or A540, are all great choices. You will still need a decent memory card as discussed above, though.

Digital Cameras???

Alex Madde

What should I look for when buying a digital camera?

I just want to buy a good digital camera that I can take with me to concerts. My friend takes her camera to concerts but it really isnt that good, it takes the pictures blurry and I want one that will take good pictures even if the band playing is running around on stage or something.

Also, what does megapixels mean?

Answer
Start with the budget. This may seem backwards, but it's not. You can find a decent camera to match any amount of money you want to spend.

Next, find a friend who will help you learn how to use the camera. This "friend" could even be the clerk in your local photo shop. By "photo shop," I mean an actual camera shop or at least a camera department where the sales staff only deals with cameras and not dishwashers, too. Buy the camera that your friend recommends so that they will be able to teach you how to use it.

After you know what you are doing and are ready for your next camera - and this will come sooner than you think - you will be in a position to make your own choice.

If you have some vague ideas about price and desired features, go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp and see what they select for you.

Choose the best one by deciding what you want to do, how much you want to learn, how far you want to progress and how much you want to spend.

Answer
If youâre looking for a point & shoot, user friendly digital camera, I have to say, I like Canon. Nothing against other the other brands. I prefer Canon based on personal experience and their reputation.

Consider the Canon PowerShot models, the A630 or the A640. These compact models have helpful pre-set shooting modes that you choose for the particular picture situation you are about to shoot. Like: auto(matic), portrait, nighttime, landscape, indoor, snow, beach, kids & pets (subjects that wonât keep still), and more⦠You can also be creative with these models, where you can choose special FX settings as you are shooting a pictures and have the option to program/set your own manual setting, so check the specifications. You should bear in mind, with physical size of the camera, (subcompact/slim/flat vs. compact), you compromise features that are available on the compact/slightly larger models.

I own the Canon PowerShot A620. My favorite feature of this model is the vari-angle (flip and twist) display/LCD screen. It protects the screen when not in use, and helpful for odd angle shots. Especially if you want to take a picture of yourself, or yourself with others. Picture taking is instant! I have found lag time is not an issue, with this camera, compared to my first digital camera. They now have an updated version of my A620⦠the above mentioned A630 and A640. Here is a review and its features (keep scrolling to see the vari-angle screen), up close and personal:
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_a630_a640-review/index.shtml

Here is where I go to shop on-line for the best price for digital cameras. (Which I found to have considerable better prices than going locally to your nearest digital camera dealer). Just type in your camera model in the âsearch keywordâ: http://lowpricedigital.com/category.asp?master_category_Id=1000 Buy soon or check daily, for prices changes daily amongst merchants. Also check if the camera is being sold ânewâ or ârefurbishedâ.

If youâd rather buy from the store, check the usual places, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, and camera stores. Even consider Office Max, Office Depot, CostCo/Samâs Club---any store with a camera department.

I hope you have better luck this time!

Among Nikon and Canon, which is better for point and shoot digital cameras?

I asked a friend and he told that both Nikon and Canon are equally good and they're the best. Are both of them the best brands? Which is the better one?

Answer
Both are good quality camera but for point & shoot Canon is more popular and get better reviews from user.

Dropped my "Canon"digital camera. Lens error?

talliee

I dropped my digital camera and the lens won't go back in. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Answer
Is it a compact canon, or a DSLR? If it's a compact, the same thing happened to my kodak.. I just played around with it and kind of forced it in when I knew it was supposed to go in. Then it worked fine. But then again these are two different brands, and if it was expensive and you don't feel like buying another one, I would take it to wherever you bought it from and ask them.

camera saying lens error?

SP

I have a Canon digital camera that I have never had any problems with. Yesterday, I was flying home from spring break, before the airport it was working fine, once I got into the airport, I went to look at my pictures and it said, "Lens error, restart camera". I've turned it off, taken the battery out, etc. but it doesn't work. The lens doesn't look like it's struggling to turn on (or open), nothing happens at all, it just beeps and says that.

What do I do?
it is a powershot SD1100 IS. how would you restart it?

Answer
You will have to send it in to be repaired, you won't be able to get it work.

If you go to google and search for "Canon lens error" you will find that it is a common problem with Canon point and shoot cameras(which is why I won't buy a Canon point and shoot camera). If it hasn't been a full year since you bought it, Canon might repair it for free, otherwise it will cost you. It might be cheaper just to buy a whole new camera if they are going to charge you.

Which canon digital camera is the best?

Answer
It all depends on what kind of camera your looking for. are you looking for a low level compact camera or a high level compact camera. Or even an entry level dSLR.
low level compact camera:

1.The canon powershot a570 has 4x optical zoom with 7.1 megapixels. its a great low level camera since it has ois (optical image stabilizer) and costs around 200$
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0702/07022201canonsa560a570is.asp

2. the canon powershot sd850 which has 4x optical zoom with
8 megapixels and digic III noise reduction. For more info on this one look at:http://www.dpreview.com/news/0705/07050702canonsd850is.asp

High level Compact cameras:

1. The canon powershot sx100 is it has 10x optical zoom with 8 megapixels and face detection. Face detection automatcially puts the faces in the picture into perfect detail.
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/07082004canonsx100is.asp

2. The canon powershot s5 is has 12x optical zoom with 8 megapixels with image stabilizer to lessen the shake while your taking pictures.
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0705/07050703canons5is.asp

dSLRs:

1. The canon mark III has many interchangable lens. with 10 pictures a second The mark III is the best canon camera out there although i'd doubt you'd want to buy one they cost 6,000$ alone without a lens.

Digital Cameras?

didthegras

I'm in the market for a good digital camera. My limit is about $350. I really don't need many special features, I just want something that will take good quality pictures. I'm wanting to go with a 7.1 megapixel, but I'm not sure what power optical zoom that I'll need. I'm trying to avoid digital zoom.
Also, would it be a good idea to buy a camera that comes with a docking station? What are the benefits/drawbacks?
Thanks and God Bless!!!

Answer
I suggest the Canon PowerShot A630. You won't have to spend $350- Website dpreview.com shows Beach Camera selling it for $185-+ shipping. 4X optical zoom, 8 mgapixels, and will give yo an excellent 8X10 print. In addition to auto has manual controls if you prefer. Above average battery life using AA rechargeables.
PS should you buy a camera that's 7 or 8 megapixels, buy at least a 2GB memory card, because the more megapixels takes up more memory, which results in the amount of shots you can take on the memory card.

Canon - PowerShot 8.0MP Digital ELPH Camera?

J J

I am thinking about getting a Canon - PowerShot 8.0MP Digital ELPH Camera , Model: SD850IS. I was wondering if anyone has this, and what they think of it. Also, I was wondering if it takes video with sound. Thanks!

Answer
The SD850 IS is a very good ultra compact camera. I own it's predecessor, the SD700 IS and just love it. The IS and other features are cool.

Of course it shoots movies with sound. And quite good movies, at that. But, what compact camera doesn't do that?
Audio quality is not perfect, but good enough.

The only real negative is the very limited manual controls, but if you can live without them, it will be fine. It's meant to be a point & shoot camera, after all.

Oh, and one word of advice...the camera has a lovely metallic body, which looks great, but can get a little slippery. For safety's sake, I would advise you to attach the little hand strap that comes with the camera. I put mine in a snug fitting camera case and use the hand strap to pull it out of the case.
The Lowepro Rezo 15...fits it like a glove, Rezo 20 is slightly bigger.

Check the reviews below...and don't forget to buy a high speed SD card to go with it (1-2GB minimum).

I have this camera and I cannot seem to get the flash to not come on. Does anyone know how to do this? When I turn the flash mode off it still turns on automatically.

Answer
i have the SD900IS. when you turn off the flash to take pictures and turn off the camera when your done and you turn it back on, the flash will be on again. to turn if off all the time, switch to MANUAL mode which is the M and set it off that way.

From what I've heard from photographers, Canon is the best brand. I'm looking into buying a Canon digital camera in the $300 or under price range.. any recomendations to one that takes quality photos, and is a good camera altogether?

Answer
Well Canon is the only brand I would consider. It consistently gets top marks, and I have had mostly very good experiences from the brand.
All cameras have an auto mode which means the camera will choose the aperture and shutter speed depending on lighting conditions. Others also have manual controls where you can be a bit more creative and have a little more control of certain settings.
It really depends on what sort of photographer you are and what experience you have...

There are 3 Canon cameras I am really liking at the moment and would recommend either.......(not including the digital slr cams of course!)
A good choice is the fairly compact A620, which has 7.1MP, 4x zoom, excellent image quality and has a very handy flip out and twist (vari-angle) LCD screen. The reviews for this cam have been very positive.
The new S3 IS, is a bit larger in size and has 12x optical zoom, 6MP, optical image stabilization and takes very good video in stereo sound...probably not a good choice for an absolute beginner.
Another one which i am liking the sound of is the new Powershot SD 700 IS/or Digital Ixus 800 IS in some countries. It has 6 MP, 4X zoom and is primarily a point and shoot camera, with limited manual control, takes excellent quality pics, is extremely compact and has the added benefit of having optical image stabilization to lessen the chance of blurry pics. It would be the sort of cam you could carry with you all the time, say in your pocket or handbag.
Just remember though, that most digital camera pics need some sort of post processing via Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro or other software on your computer to get the best results. Check out these sites for an insight into different cameras...

Hi, can someone please tell me the best or one of the best canon digital cameras from a $200-300 price range? And can you tell me a store where I can buy it - I live in Canada. Thank you very much. :)

Answer
http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-sd850-is/4505-6501_7-32441340.html?tag=prod.txt.2

Cnet.com has reviews of hundreds of cameras, including this one that is getting close to your $300 price. They list places it can be purchased online and with your Canadian Looney at an all-time high against the US dollar, you should do pretty well. I know there are some taxes you'd have to pay, so maybe you could find it at a retailer close to you.

Which company makes the best digital cameras samsung, sony, nikon or canon?

powderjusb

I knw a lil about digital cameras but ive always had kodaks i want to try something different now megapixels is not the main the optical zoom is what u should worry about i jus dont know what company to go with. Samsung, sony, canon or nikon

Answer
Personally, I would go with Canon. They have been in the camera business for a long time now and they always have high marks for their products. I had one of their digital cameras and it performed as advertised with exceptional results. Panasonic is another company that produces good cameras. During to my recent research for a new camera, both they and Canon were often rank as the top 2 companies for their click and shoot camera line. For the more expensive DSLRs, no question Canon is tops.

Help w/ finding the best digital camera by the brands of Canon,Nikon or Olympus.?

Eileen

I also want to know which brand out of these three is the best?
I hope to have on that digital camera good mega pixels, great zoom and a good video camera, preferably a HD one.
So please, take your time to think about it. I will put yours the best if your answer seems good.

Answer
To be successful in finding the "best" camera for you will require some direct research.

Visit the Canon, Nikon and Olympus websites.

Take notes and record data like,

* The number of current lenses available of each system.
* The actual size of the sensor (not the pixel count)
* Do you really want a good still camera or a video camera. HD is almost as misused as the pixel count to attract unknowing new users of fully adjustable cameras, DSLR's HD only means that the camera can produce video at either 24 or 30 fps (you have do decide which you need before you buy) using 2 mp of any of the sensors it is being recorded (1960 x 1080 pixels). The real HD video recorders actually use 3-CCD's to record HD video for a total of 6 mp in data (RGB)
* All the zooms on a DSLR system are not only good, but great. If you mean by having the most range from wide angle to telephoto, Nikon and Canon make a 18-200 mm lens which you may consider "good"

Once you have done YOUR research, visit a camera store and actually see which of the cameras you like best; which one fits best in your hands and has the menu that is easiest for you to navigate. Perhaps most importantly, which one is the easiest to change ISO's, resolutions, white balance, modes and EV adjustments.

On pixel counts:

I can say that when I first started using digital SLR's, all we had were 3 mp sensors and they provided images that were good enough for publications.

Is this a GOOD CAMERA? im a beginner 16 and a FEMALE :D ( answer mine ill answer yours )?

Brooken

http://abudhabi.dubizzle.com/classified/cameras-imaging/digital-cameras/point-shoot/2011/5/6/canon-powershot-s3-is-3/

im a beginner, wanting to get a photography camera something thts good not bad, whats its qualities?..
Is it good for this price? its second hand (was used) 152 pounds?

Answer
You really need a fully adjustable camera for "photography". Photography implies that you want to control everything about the images you are shooting and for that you will need either a good used 35 mm SLR or a dSLR camera.

A beginner is a beginner. It does not matter if you are 16 or 60, female or male. They all work the same and are NOT gender specific nor does it matter the age of the user

Nikon and Canon are the most plentiful of all the used cameras, so look for a 35 mm SLR with lens for less than £70.

You may not find a dSLR for less than £152 but maybe close to that. Look for a camera like the Nikon D40 or D60 with 18-55 mm lens or a Canon XT with the same lens.

Should i buy Olympus Ultra Zoom Digital Cameras, rather than Canon ones?

Amir

Guys who bought Olympus Ultra Zoom Digital Cameras.
Are You Satisfied?

Answer
I dont know if this will help you. I have the same situation as yours few weeks ago regarding which brand of camera to buy (DSLR category). I made a lot of research reading different camera's features and reading/watching videos of commentaries/reviews by camera experts and amateurs alike at youtube.com (just type in camera's brand and model and click search). Way back then, I was weighing between models made by Canon, Nikon and Olympus. I ended up buying a Canon DSLR camera, the EOS 40D kit and I have no regret buying it whatsoever. I think you are doing the right thing asking for recommendations before actually buying a camera. I did the same thing. If I did not buy the Canon brand, I would settle on buying a comparable model from Nikon, and lastly, Olympus. I am just new to DSLR photography and definitely not an expert, so I am just giving you my humble and honest opinion which you could probably apply to your situation. Hope this helps.

What digital camera should I buy that is comparable to the Canon PowerShot A40?

Nick and A

This camera has been discontinued, but we really liked the features. I am looking into buying another Canon, unless convinced otherwise, and there are too many choices. I am looking to spend about $200-250. Any ideas?

Answer
The Canon 1.9MP, A40 is an old model which was released almost 6 years ago. The newer models obviously have updated image quality and features, faster camera performance, and take better movies.

Canon is a great brand that has some excellent models on offer. Getting a camera with IS (image stabilization) makes sense, so I would recommend either...

A570 IS...7MP, 4x optical zoom, image stabilization, aperture & shutter priority modes. It's a good budget camera. It's main downside is slow flash recovery times.

A720 IS...8MP, 6x optical zoom, image stabilization, aperture & shutter priority modes.
It's my pick...because it's a little better than the A570 IS and has just a little more optical zoom (never use digital zoom, which only results in poor image quality).
And it only costs around $200 or less.

For cost effectiveness and a good power source, you will need to buy rechargeable AA NiMH batteries (high capacity, 2500-2700mAh) and a charger. This will provide 400+ shots per charge. Charge them regularly because their power will drain when not used. To extend battery life, limit the time the LCD is on. Turn it off in-between shots and limit the time you spend reviewing your images. The LCD uses most of your battery power (other than the flash and the zoom).

You will also need to buy a fast SD memory card for fast camera operation and especially when recording high quality movies of (640x480 @ 30fps). Which is so much better than the old A40's (320x240 @ 20fps) which were limited to 10 sec clips. The A720 IS's clips are limited to 4GB. That would be around 32 minutes!

Sandisk Ultra II SD or the slightly faster, Extreme III SD (1-2GB minimum) is my recommendation. They are fast, reliable and come with a lifetime warranty (not to mention, are dirt cheap). Don't forget to Format the card (in the camera's Menu) before you use it and everytime AFTER you have safely uploaded all images to your computer. Doing this will prevent card errors.

good luck...

New camera questions?

Halea

I got a new camera today and I had a few questions about it. Its a fujifilm, digital camera, finepix sl1000 series. 1) I was wondering if fujifilm is a good camera brand. 2) How does the battery life last (because mine, on the first day, isnt very good) 3) How is it at taking sports pictures ?(football, baseball, basketball) 4) How much was this camera in the store? (My mom paid about $400 with a discount she found and I was wondering the real price of it.) 5) How is this camera/price compared to a cannon or nikon camera about the same type/price 6) What is the thing on the top (by the microphone or speaker) it looks like something can slide into it, but it doesnt say in the manual 7) Why does the screen rotate up and down ? (also doesnt say in the manual about this)8) What can I do to make taking sports(fast moving) pictures more clear and crisp? (besides doing the 9 pictures continuous button, or clicking the camera button over and over and over) I'll take any help on any of the answers ! Any help is appriciated ! Thanks so much!!

Answer
1) I was wondering if fujifilm is a good camera brand
Ans - Excellent brand, technologies used in fuji camera are better than Canon and Nikon cameras.

2) How does the battery life last (because mine, on the first day, isnt very good)
Ans. Depend upon usage, will capture 400+ shot

3) How is it at taking sports pictures ?(football, baseball, basketball)
Ans. Continuous Shooting: 10fps, you can capture 10 images in 1 sec, [class leading frame rate]

4) How much was this camera in the store
Ans MRP is $399.95, Available at $329.00 online

5) How is this camera/price compared to a cannon or nikon camera about the same type/price
Ans. Canon S5X0 HS cost you $450, Nikon no announced any 50X optical zoom camera, we are also waiting.

6) What is the thing on the top (by the microphone or speaker) it looks like something can slide into it, but it doesnt say in the manual
Ans. Its hotshoe for external flash.

7) Why does the screen rotate up and down ? (also doesnt say in the manual about this)
Ans. The SL1000 is equipped with both a rear LCD monitor and an eye-level electronic viewfinder for monitoring and reviewing imagery. The 3.0" 920k-dot LCD monitor features a tiltable design that allows you to angle the monitor either up or down to better suit shooting from high and low angles. The electronic viewfinder also has a 920k-dot resolution and has a built-in eye sensor to deactivate the larger LCD monitor during use. The EVF enables eye-level shooting, which provides an additional point of contact to better aid in steadying your camera while shooting.

8) What can I do to make taking sports(fast moving) pictures more clear and crisp? (besides doing the 9 pictures continuous button, or clicking the camera button over and over and over) I'l
Ans. At 10 full resolution frames per sec the AF remains fixed.
The auto focusing speed of 0.2 second, to grapb a moving object you have to press the shutter button by shutter button.

Additional features

RAW+JPEG Mode
In addition to default JPEG file format, the FinePix SL1000 also offers the option of RAW or RAW + JPEG image formats. SILKYPIX® viewer and RAW conversion software is included for effortless management and conversion of RAW image data on your PC.

Motion Panorama 360
Just sweep the camera right-left or up-down to shoot giant panoramas up to 360°. When you view the panorama playing back on your camera or personal computer, you can enjoy a seamless panorama image with both ends stitched together to create a âcylinderâ view.

3D Shooting with "Individual Shutter 3D"
Two exposures of the same scene are saved in Multi-Picture Format (MPO) to create convincing images that appear to have been shot in real 3D. An overlapping guide on the LCD screen provides assistance for positioning the exposures, making it easy for anyone to create impressive 3D effects. And FUJIFILM's proprietary high-resolution 3D print system produces natural, beautiful 3D prints from images captured with the FinePix SL1000.

Hi - I am looking to spend about £200 on a new camera - I will be buying it from Kuala Lumpur so can probably get a better deal out there
I want to be able to zoom in quite a lot - for example taking photos of animals so they come out well instead of just a dot!
Needs to be digital - any suggestions??

Answer
you should get a canon or a nikon. those are the best two camera companys out there. my sister has a larger canon that gets up to 12X optical zoom and about 50X digital zoom. its a great camera but its more expensive. the suggested retail price for it is $350. that is in american dollars so you might be able to find it on sale and since the american dollar is worth less you can probably get it for close to what you want. its the best camera i know that you can take pictures of animals from a far distance and still see the picture. my whole family has canons and they are all really good quality. they wont let you down!

Here is the site for the camera i was talking about.

b4 i go out and buy a digital camera..i was wondering what camera everyone thinks i should buy...price range 200-300 bux
its to take pics of houses so id like as many mpixels as possible...which is best sony cybershot, canon powershot or the casio exilim?? i want it to be real slim so does that mean sony and casio are my best choices out there??

Answer
I considered canon and casio a lot before I went out and bought my sony cybershot. I don't regret my purchase. I got the Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 and it is a really great camera! It takes clear pictures and it $200. It's also very small and user friendly and has something that casio and canon don't: a viewfinder. If you are taking pictures of the outside of houses, you'll be outside in the sun and it will be very hard to see your screen. Viewfinders really come in handy in this situation...trust me!

What's a good digital Canon camera to get? $2k budget.?

Meow

I'm looking to buy a new Canon digital SLR camera. I want to spend about $1,500 on the camera alone, and $500 on lenses/fish eye lens. I need some suggestions on which camera to look into buying. Thank you! (Sample pictures of what the camera takes is super helpful).

Answer
Kirra, you might actually want to reverse your budget numbers. (i.e. $500 on the camera, $1500 on the lenses). I say this because fisheye lenses, especially those of decent quality are not cheap. Also, Canon's current pricing puts camera either above or below your stated budget. The 50D costs about $1100 and may get replaced later this year. The 7D costs about $1700 and is not necessarily the best choice for a first time DSLR buyer. Also, Canon only offers one fish-eye lens at this time (EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye, $680 USD) and it is specifically meant for full-frame cameras rather than the 1.6x crop-body cameras that fit your budget requirements.

It should also be noted that the EF 15mm f/2.8 fish-eye, if mounted on 1.6x crop-body (e.g. Rebel T2i/EOS 550D, 50D or 7D), is just a severely distorted ultra wide-angle lens (not a fish-eye). Rather than providing a true, 180-degree FOV as it does on a full-frame DSLR, a 1.6x crop-body only sees about 113-degrees which is similar to the FOV of a 14mm non-fish-eye lens on a full-frame DSLR. There are alternative brands such as Sigma, who make a true 10mm f/2.8 fish-eye for 1.6x crop-bodies but, even that "cheap" Sigma will cost about $650.

If you're willing to buy a used camera, the original Canon 5D sells for $1500 or less depending on the camera's condition. Before you turn away a used camera, keep in mind that the original 5D still beats even the mighty 7D for image quality specifically because of it's larger, full-frame sensor. Unless you are shooting sports, the original 5D may actually be the best camera you can buy given your budget. If you're shooting sports, I'd look at the 50D or splurge for the 7D. Otherwise, with a budget of $1500 for the body alone, there is nothing on the market (from any manufacturer) that will beat the original 5D for raw image quality.

Lenses for my dads Canon 5D camera?

Abby

My dad is really into photography and for his birthday i wanted to get him something to do
with photography & i thought this was a good idea(:
The two lenses he has are. . .
~ 400 mm
&&
~ 24-105

Is there anyone out there who is also into photography maybe with a Canon 5D
that suggests any lenses.

Answer
Hey,

To some answerer; so he aint into photography because he has 2 lenses? That's really..stupid to say.

Here is a post called 'Buying a Lens for Canon, what's important and which are good ones. You have like 6 posts in this post, for special lenses (buying a portrait, sports, telephoto, wide etc.). There are also Amazon, Adorama and B&H links, here is the post - http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/11/buying-lens.html

But make sure you ask him what he likes to photograph! He probably wants something wide or 70-200/300 range.

Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom-- Amazon has it listed for $113.28.

After years of buying cameras. I've learned to always go with Canon. They have the best colors in pictures.

Check amazon.com, Sears also has it for Black Friday!!! Without black friday sears is way higher than amazon.

Manufacturer Description

The PowerShot A590 IS will astound you with its power-packed performance and impressive value. Itâs got 8 mega pixels, a 4x optical zoom, an Optical Image Stabilizer, and a large 2.5-inch LCD. A range of shooting modes -- from manual to automatic, including Canonâs new Easy Mode -- make picture-taking carefree. A DIGIC III Image Processor with Enhanced Canon Face Detection assures natural-looking results, while Motion Detection Technology reduces blur. For added creativity, attach wide or telephoto converter lenses.

Canon PowerShot A590IS Highlights

8 mega pixels with 4x optical zoom and optical image stabilizer With the PowerShot A590 IS, dramatic, personal pictures have never been easier to shoot and share. The 8.0-mega pixel design lets you create impressive high resolution images of family and friends youâll be proud display. The genuine Canon 4x zoom lens moves you in for powerful close-ups -- like a bird in flight or a childâs winning goal -- at the touch of a button. Plus, Canonâs highly sophisticated Optical Image Stabilizer keeps every shot absolutely steady even when youâre not.

2.5-inch LCD screen The cameraâs 2.5-inch LCD screen gives you the big picture, whether youâre shooting, reviewing or showing off your images. This high-resolution screen offers a crisp, clear and bright picture. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light.

New Easy Mode simplifies operation Even if youâve never picked up a camera before, with Canonâs new Easy Mode you can take inspiring, dramatic pictures that will impress everyone. Once you choose Easy Mode, the PowerShot A590 IS handles all the details automatically. It automatically sets every camera control including the flash to reduce blur and improve image quality. So you get pictures that are bright, clear and natural just by pushing a button. Best of all, you can relax and concentrate on what really counts -- your subject.

Selectable shooting modes With 19 Shooting Modes including 7 Special Scene Modes, youâre ready for whatever shot comes your way.

DIGIC III Image Processor With DIGIC III, your images boast superior quality, the camera operates at top efficiency and battery life is enhanced. Whatâs more, DIGIC III enables Canonâs Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots. Simply press the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera automatically pinpoints the faces in the scene and chooses the ideal focus point. The camera controls exposure settings and flash to keep every face looking bright and natural. Red-eye Correction can be handled in-camera, in two ways. The entirely new Red-eye Correction during shooting uses the Face Detection Technology to recognize and remove red-eye from flash images as they're taken, before the file is written to the memory card. It's also possible to correct red-eye during image playback, using simple settings in the A590 IS's menu.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

Face Detection Technology Canon's powerful Face Detection Technology delivers even better results with the new A590 IS. The Face Detection Technology continues to recognize faces in a scene, and concentrate exposure (daylight or flash) and focus upon them. But the A590 IS adds more: Face Detection WB means the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones. Face Select and Track lets the A590 IS user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon's new Motion Detection Technology.

Red-eye Correction Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.

* The new Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
* The A590 IS can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
* The user can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

High ISO The PowerShot A590 IS features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

Is a Canon Rebel XTI the way to go for a good value high quality digital camera?

Tim W

I'm looking to finally upgrade to a camera that I can take truly great looking pictures with; I'm sick of taking pictures that should look awesome and only turn out OK. I've seen some taken by the XTI and was wondered what everyone thought if I wanted a high quality camera under $1000 and what you think of the lens that comes with the kit. Just looking for a little advice. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Since CW mentioned the Nikon D80, perhaps you'd like to read a comparison I did on the two cameras.

Please understand that, at this level, how YOU feel with a camera is probably the most important single factor in your purchase decision. If you have handled the Canon and like it, buy it. It is indeed an excellent camera. I understand that the kit lens leaves something to be desired, so you might want to look into an upgrade right off the bat. One of our devoted Canon users recommended the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (28-135 equiv.) ($500)
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=149&modelid=10511
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-S-17-85mm-f-4-5.6-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

Okay. If you are set on the Canon, don't read any more. If you aer still shopping, go ahead...

Comparing the Nikon D80 vs. Canon 400D/Rebel XTi

Check this page:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/page21.asp

The first thing I notice is that the Canon does not have a spot meter. I thought they added that in the XTi, but I guess past criticism was not heard at Canon.

The Nikon user-definable Auto-ISO is an interesting feature that lets you define a couple of parameters about what's acceptable to you and what's not. I don't think this would be the tie-breaker, though, if you can't decide between cameras.

The D80 has a pentaprism and the Canon uses mirrors. "They" say that mirrors are getting pretty good, but I would expect the pentaprism to be a brighter viewfinder.

The Nikon lets you do actual multiple exposures in the camera and some people think this is pretty cool.

Click "next" and move to page 22 and you'll see some image comparisons. Click "next" a couple more times to see more direct comparisons on page 25. Click "next" a couple more times to see some noise level comparisons on page 27. It looks to me like the D80 has actually tamed the noise better than the XTi, but read the comments about image softness.

Click one more time and see that the D80 is clearly the winner in image sharpness.

Go on to the next page and read the conclusions.

You can go to the side-by-side at

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos400d%2Cnikon_d80&show=all and also click on "Our in depth review" and "Read owner opinions" for each camera.

The last line in the Nikon D80 review reads, "If you're a more discerning photographer who can see the advantages offered by the 'all round' D80 you may well consider the extra money well spent."

The last line in the Canon 400D/XTi review reads, "Thanks to its blood line and low price the EOS 400D will no doubt be a huge success for Canon. However unlike the EOS 350D, for me it's no longer the first or obvious choice, so before jumping on the bandwagon make sure you've weighed up the competition."

In other words, you've selected with the two best cameras in their price class.

Canon is probably saving a little money using their CMOS sensor and this will bring them some market share. Whether the sensor and images are better or not is open to wild debate based on personal preferences. Whether one camera feels better in your hands might just be the determining factor. You have got to go to a real camera store and handle them both. I guess Costco, Circuit City or Best Buy would also have actual samples on display, but you may not get as much help from the staff.

As far as lens choice, I'd rather see you start with one decent lens instead of the kit lens, although Nikon's kit lens (18-55) has actually tested pretty will. (Canon's has not.) For Nikon, I like the Nikkor AF-S 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G ED DX. This costs about $300. I bought this for my wife on her D50 and liked it so much (for the money) that I bought it as a backup for one of my cameras. For Canon, one of our best answerers (Panacea) recommends the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. This costs about $500, so there goes the $200 price difference.

Of course, you'll need a decent memory card and I recommend a genuine Sandisk Ultra II (60X) or Extreme III (133X) of at least 1GB - preferable 2 GB - for either camera. Lexar is another excellent card supplier and they have the "Professional" 133X as well as the Platinum 80X to choose from. Both Lexar and Sandisk come with image recovery software and limited lifetime warranties.

Which slr camera should i get, the canon eos digital rebel xti or the nikon d70?

Q. help please! and please give me an explantion of why you believe that camera is better
actually scratch that. the canon eos digital rebel xti or the nikon d80?

Answer
I posted a "question" to get this information out there. You may find the answers to that question helpful.

"The February 2007 issue of Popular Photography has just come out and they compared the top 10 MP DSLR's. I am posting this question for general information and so I can refer to it in future answers.

One of my boilerplate answers......

Canon's new 18-55 "II" kit lens seems okay. For Nikon, I like the Nikkor AF-S 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G ED DX.

How do you upload pictures from a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera?

xlilxkimx

My brother let me borrow his Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi camera for a trip and I'm not sure how to upload them onto my computer. My friend was telling me something about having to take out the memory card or something. Does anyone know?

Answer
I suspect your brother does this kind of thing with his camera all of the time and probably has everything necessary to do it. You should ask him how he does it and what equipment he uses which is information he will probably share with you. He'll have the software, the USB cable that will allow you to attach the camera to the computer, or a USB card reader which will allow you to download your images. No sense you buying more equipment like this if he's got it since it's his camera. If you're on vacation and your card is full and your brother is not around, take your camera to the nearest store to you that sells cameras or computers and buy an extra flash card. When you get back from your trip give him the extra flash card as thanks for letting you use his camera. I suspect he will be happy to download your images into his computer and then make CDs for you.

Hello, I have a question about canon digital camera?

moonchild1

What is the difference when it says a canon powershot or a canon ixus? Why is for example a sd canon 630 called powershot sd 630 and ixus 65. What's the difference?

Answer
IXUS seems to be the technology brand name they give to their cameras outside the US & Canada; here, they call the brand ELPH. It seems like the SD630 is called the 65 IXUS outside the US, that's all. Check the 2nd link below, they seem to have the same specs.

Kids Digital Camera With Charger?

pcary2000

Do you know of any digital camera that is appropiate for kids but has a battery charger instead of AA batteries? That is the only gift my years old girl wants. She has a special talent on taking pictures but I don't want to spend my whole salary buying batteries.
Thanks a lot.

Answer
The all time winner bargain compact digital camera is the Canon 8.0 megapixel PowerShot SD1100[IS] with an added 2- gig memory card which when set in the manual mode for "Vivid" colors and videos at 30 fps in 320 dpi format provides killer images and videos under low light conditions. It's especially good for low-light concerts. The macro feature is superb for taking closeups of small butterflies, insects, etc. It currently sells for $150 at fotoconnection.com:

Which brand is better for digital cameras? SONY or CANON?

Supergirl

I am looking to buy a 6mp digital camera...the cute compact one. I see alot of Canon, Sony, and Fujifilm. Which is the better brand?

Answer
Canon and Nikon are the best brands for cameras, especially SLR film or digital. For point and shoot, I know many people extremely satisfied with the Powershot. Personally, I don't know anyone with a Coolpix so I can't comment on Nikon (I am extremely pleased with my D50 though), and I also know several people who love their Olympus point and shoot cameras. For Sony, I have a cybershot and thought it was ok, my results were blurry at times. If you go that route I recommend getting one with a Zeiss lens.

I'm looking at Canon/Sony/Nikon digital cameras... $200-300. Which is best?

Mary

I like Canon, Sony, and Nikon digital cameras because I have each make solid cameras. I am willing to spend between $200-300. I currently own a Sony and thought it took great pictures. I read an online article that looked at a bunch of cameras and the Canon PowerShot 10.0-Megapixel Digital ELPH Camera, Model SD880IS, was the best. When I read reviews for this camera online I read where this camera has a lot of noise from light sensitivity... I'm not sure how much that come up, and it is still new to me. Anyways, I also saw where some Nikon's have a better zoom. Something I read said megapixels do not make that much of a difference anymore. Which qualities should I look for exactly?

Also, Best Buy and other electronic store prices are higher than the following site... http://www.jr.com/..... Is there a reason for this? Will Best Buy price match? I would rather look at the camera before I buy it. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the site for the Canon I was looking at:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8968325&type=product&id=1217029965521

Answer
Personally, I like Canon point-and-shoot cameras. My old A620 still takes great photos.
Here are two good sites for reviews and recommendations.

and

Before you order from any online merchant, you should know there are many scam sites out there. âIf it looks too good to be true, it probably is.â Check out merchants at:

Digital Camera?

CrazygirlD

Ok I am looking for a good relatively inexpensive digital camera. between 200-300 dollars. But I know NOTHING about them. I want it small and compact, so I can carry it easily when I go on trips. Any suggestions?

Answer
Check out the made in Japan, Canon PowerShot SD1000 ELPH - 7 megapixel camera which is powered by a proprietary rechargeable lithium battery to produce around 115 shots using the LCD or 220 shots via the viewfinder. The 2.5" LCD consists of 225,000 pixels [vs. the competition that's 115,000] and is photo quality. The video with sound is top drawer. This is an ultracompact that fits into your shirt pocket.

It sells for $176.00 at samys.com

Good luck!

Canon Digital Camera Questions?

Sapph

1.) What's the difference between the Powershot A, S, T, Pro and G series?

2.) What's the difference between the Powershot, Elph and Ixus?

and....

3.) Which would you guys recommend? What do you think is best? I want to buy a digital camera and plan on getting the one with a fast shutter speed, high mega pixel, with macro, and the one with cool features... (like color swap or color accent) and still feels a bit professional...

Answer
PowerShot A-series uses AA-batteries and most offer multiple manual modes (Av, Tv, Full-Manual, etc.). S-series have the same capabilities as A-series, but are a lot bulkier and have a different type of battery. The G-series are like the S-series, but offer even more options (hot-shoe adapter, RAW images) and are closer to the professional cameras than the rest of the PowerShots. The G-series eventually replaced the Pro-series.

PowerShot cameras that are made in the US are called PowerShots. That exact same camera model is also made in Europe (and is called IXUS) and Japan (which is known as IXY). The Digital Elph-series is simply another name for the PowerShot SD-series (which only offers VERY limited manual features).

My suggestion is if you know FOR SURE that you're going to expand (i.e., buying a separate flash unit), go with a G-series camera (preferably a G6 or G7). Otherwise, I'd go with the PowerShot A710 with Image Stabilization. It offers all the qualities you're looking for, including color swap and color accent.

Hope that helps!

Which camera should I buy?

I am planning to buy a new camera in next 10 days
I am looking for some non-SLR digital camera..
As buying SLR camera includes making collection of different lenses for different purposes..
I am looking for a camera with greater optical zoom around 40x or more..

I had seen these two cameras, but unable to choose one of these two..
As I wanted 50x zoom n features like panorama,3D pictures and GPS system too :(
Is there any camera to be released in near future?
If not, which one of these two will be better to choose..
Canon SX50
NIKON P510

Range 20000 INR- 30000 INR that is, in GBP- 225GBP to 350GBP or in USD- 360 $-550 $ USD..
Thank You in advance..

Answer
Realize that any time you go with a high power zoom, 12x or more, you are compromising image quality for the convenience of such a long zoom. And the higher the power, the more the compromise.

A 50x zoom is going to have issues. And, you will not be able to use that lens at the extreme zoomed in position without a tripod as it will be impossible for you to hold it steady enough - even with vibration reduction.

Honestly, no one needs 50x if you learn a valuable trick that professional photographers use - learn to "zoom with your feet".

You may want to re-think your zoom requirements. Some brand cameras do better than others, but even then, 12x to 16x range is maximum in my view (and 4x to 7x is ideal).
