Is it possible to download the camera required for this camera?

Bucephalus

Alright, long story short, this is the camera I am buying, however, it looks like a cd-rom is required to be able to use it. (Installing something before my computer will read the camera's images or some such thing); however, my computer's disc tray is broken and I can not currently afford to fix it. Would it be possible to download the required programs for this camera anywhere or even from the official website. I have looked, and admittedly, it's late and I may have missed something, but it didn't look as though I could download the required software. And yes I saw the drivers/software tab on it. Just nothing to actually DOWNLOAD the program.

Ha, just noticed the silliness of the title. I look like a moron. Please disregard that.
@Looney: If you had payed any attention, rather than skimming, I did say it was late at night, AND that I saw the software/download area, HOWEVER, there was no DOWNLOAD button.

"And yes I saw the drivers/software tab on it. Just nothing to actually DOWNLOAD the program."

Answer
firstly you wont need the bloatware to use your camera as you can use windows programs to both download the pics and view them from the camera and they are built in already.

Second, just get someone else (or the shop) to download the program and copy into a USB stick. Use you this to transfer all that you (dont) need to your PC.

Good luck

Suggestions for high quality cameras?

RLlove

im interested in photography and would rally like help on which camera to buy! if you can suggest any good websites or comparison sites or just cameras that you think are good, let me know! :) i dont mean digital cameras as i have one of those (fujifilm finepix) but one of the more professional cameras. im not sure what theyr official title is, but one of the black ones with the chunky lenses hehe! thanks!

Answer
Yes a DSLR is what you're referring to.
Firstly for reviews of bodies and lenses, go here
http://www.dpreview.com/

Secondly. Don't look at the price of just the kit camera. It can/will get expensive very fast. The standard kit lenses they sell with the cameras are ok. Offer good range, but the optical quality isn't the greatest. Still better than a point & shoot. So you'll want to buy a new lens within the first month. And a flash unit. tripod, other lenses, big bag to carry all this, filters (can't forget filters!) polarisers, it'll grow into a big expense very fast. A simple $600 camera can become a $2000 kit in 6 months if you let it.

As for what brand to buy, both Nikon and Canon are excellent and are the most popular brands. So it's easier to find gear for them. If you have friends that have DSLRs, then get the same brand they have. You can help each other out, lend each other equipment, and in the end no person in the world can look at a picture and tell you if it was shot on a nikon or canon.

The Canon Powershot SD12000 IS ELPH is only $200 (less on Amazon) and got way better reviews in Consumer Reports than 300, 400, or even 500 dollar cameras. It also comes in a bunch of colors! I love my Sony DSC-W80 and think it takes great artsy pictures as well as candids. I'm guessing they don't make them anymore since I bought it two years ago, so I'd recommend browsing for a DSC-W camera that fits your budget and requirements!

Is it true that the Canon T4i camera has been discontinued due to a factory recall?

iC1

I was told this by several different sales reps at Best Buy on different occasions.
One even showed me some article about it. Something to do with an allergy that some people may have to the material used in the grip on the side of the body.

If this unit really was recalled and discontinued, why does it seem to be onsale still?
Example: http://dzurl.info/Qf8QpC

Does anyone know anything about this?

Answer
No, it's not true. Only a certain number of units are affected. So, don't worry. Here is the problem...

"The front rubber grips of some EOS REBEL T4i units produced in certain lots may turn white after a short period of time. We have determined after inquiry with the rubber manufacturer and analysis, that the white substance is zinc bis (N,Nâ-dimethyldithiocarbamate). Zinc bis is not used in the production of this product.
However, the quantity of rubber accelerator used in the affected production lots was slightly higher than usual. As a result the rubber grips may turn white due to a chemical reaction with the rubber accelerator and other substances. High temperature and high humidity may contribute to this condition. Zinc bis (N,Nâ-dimethyldithiocarbamate), which becomes deposited on the rubber surface, is created as a result of this chemical reaction."

From Canon's website...
"Product Recalled for Repair
Some EOS Rebel T4i digital SLR cameras sold from June 11 through August 1, 2012 may be under recall for repair.

You can use the serial number to check whether your camera is affected by this phenomenon. If the sixth digit of the serial number is "1" please follow the procedure below. If the sixth digit of the serial number is "2" or higher, your camera is not under recall for repair."

So, if intending to purchase the T4i...it would be wise to check the serial number before you buy it.

is the ROYAL II a good camera for begginers?

Nicolas

i know its a fake, but i started a photography class that you HAVE to have a 35mm camera.
spent 20$ on it from a local store.
its "focus free" i dont know what that means though.
and motorized rewind and motorized spool, which means you dont have to pull a lever everytime you want to take a new picture it does that by itself.
it has a good viewfinder and also has a top view which sort of looks like a screen that is a viewfinder.
heres a picture i found on google because i cont find my digital camera: http://www.julian.cl/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/100_3394.jpg

Answer
It is NOT a good camera for "beginners" since it has NO controls a beginner can use to learn how to balance shutter speed and lens aperture to get good exposures, nor does it have a lens you can focus

In order to complete the classes in photography, you must be able to change the shutter speed and lens aperture. Such a camera will cost you around $100 with a lens. You can find them on craigslist in a city near you, on the schools bulletin board in the art department or in some camera shops that sell used cameras. Look for a Nikon or Canon EOS camera. The old Canon SLR's that use FD and FL lenses are a dead-end system

NOTE: "focus free" does NOT mean auto-focus. It means that the lens is permanently set to be in focus at 2m or 6 feet. This Royal II is NOT a Canon camera and is just one of the ripoff toy cameras that are being sold to intelligent but uninformed people thinking that they are getting a "great deal" when in reality they just wasted $20 ... or more

Best Digital Camera.......?

Tibby

So a couple months ago I went spelunking and was told I could bring my camera along but in a ziplock bag. I guess I didn't think about it because meanwhile we were climbing up 40 feet and well let's just say I sat on my camera and the lens part got pushed in. I've had the camera for awhile so I don't think I can send it in and get it repaired. I get the "lens error" and well... I just need another camera soon.

I am now pregnant and want to have a nice camera (other than my phone) to take pictures not only of myself but of places too, because I travel.
I am looking for nothing too fancy.. just a nice digital camera that is best for taking shots of things in the open (like scenery) and also that would be great for having a pregnancy shoot or just any pix in general.
Something not too expensive either. Under $500 ( that doesn't mean I'm wanting a bunch of cameras priced at $450 lol .. I just need options and descriptions..
A camera (digital) that you have used before or have a friend that has used one and you were pleased with the photos and settings.

As you can probably tell .. I do not know much about cameras and I'll most likely go to a store and just ask them about it.. but wanted to see what others would suggest for me.

Thanks

Canon PowerShot SX260 or Canon PowerShot S100?

Hi I decided to buy a new digital camera, and i stopped at 2 of them, and can someone help me which is better? Canon PowerShot SX260 or Canon PowerShot S100?

Answer
I have the S100 and my son just bought the SX260 HS. The S100 definitely produces a little better image quality/less noise than the SX260 HS...and that's mostly because it has a slightly larger sensor. The SX240 HS is EXACTLY the same as the SX260 HS, but doesn't include GPS.

But, both cameras have their pros and cons. The S100 has a high quality build, is more compact in size, has 5x optical zoom, f/2.0 lens, full manual controls, the ability to shoot in RAW, has two fully customizable control rings, AEB and records Full HD movies. As a compact camera, it's excellent.

The SX260 HS is a little larger in size, also has good build quality, has a whopping 20x optical zoom (though it would be very difficult to handhold the camera still enough when fully zoomed) has full manual controls and records Full HD movies.

The main con with both cameras is battery life (just over 200 shots per full charge) so you would need to make sure you give the battery a top up charge before you're going out shooting for the day...or buy a second battery. They also both feature GPS, which you can turn on or off. If enabled, expect battery life to drain much faster. The only other real con with each camera is that the flash pops up...so you have to be very mindful of where you're fingers are placed, because they can easily get in the way.

You will need a Class 10 SDHC memory card with either camera. I use and recommend Sandisk Extreme 30 MB/sec...format before first use.

I recommend you read reviews (below) and go to a camera store to handle both models to see which feels best in your hands...

Buying Canon 7D, any reviews?

Emma

i own a Nikon D80 and i want the new Canon 7D, i was wondering if it is better than the Nikon D300 or 700, and what are some of the good qualities.

Answer
If you switch to the 7D, those old Nikon lenses you used to use with the D80 will all be useless. The cost isn't just limited to the body itself, but to the lenses you will need to buy to replace the old ones you had before.

As for performance, the D700 is the best out of those 3. For the same price as getting the 7D and replacement lenses, the D700 is the much better camera here.

Should I buy a Canon 7D?

Bernie

I'm an aspiring film maker and am looking for a new camera.
I've been asking around for recommendations from some friends and most are saying that the Canon 7D is the way to go.
I don't know much about shooting video with a DSLR, and I don't know how I feel about using a separate recorder to capture audio.
Plus, most of the people who recommended the 7D are film school students, and their advice is usually "No, you NEED to buy a 7D! You NEED to edit on a Mac! NEED NEED NEED!" and I feel like I'm not really getting the best advice.

So I'm asking more about what are the pro's of shooting on a DSLR vs. a Professional video camera?
If not the 7D, what camera would you recommend?
Looking for something around $2,000-$3,000.

Thanks!

Answer
Jim A, maybe you should brush up on media language yourself before criticizing him as he use the term film in the correct context..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film

As for your question Bernie, the 7d is an excellent camera for video, Scenes in Black swan were recorded with the 7d. In saying that the t2i, 60d and the soon to be released t3i have basically the same video function as the 7d in cheaper bodies. In the case of the 60d and the t3i they have articulating screens that are brilliant for filming with. I'd recommend the 60d to you.

If you are looking to get into film making professionally you will want to get good sound equipment anyway.

In regards to the mac or pc question, i'd recommend a mac as it has Final Cut Pro for editing and its basically the industry standard. But if you want to save money don't dismiss a windows machine as Adobe Premier is just as good.

take a look at you tube at some of the example short films shot with each of the cameras and you can decide from that.

Hope that helps you.

what kind of camera do they use in the 2012 amazing Spider Man?

Jan

Like Peter's main Camera? And are there cameras that look like it but arent film? Because i think his is film and I need a digital one.

Answer
In this image from Spiderman, Peter is using a Canon F1

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1809&bih=948&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=camera+used+by+peter+parker&btnG=#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=0tJBypHnx4TEeM%3A%3BHcf2hJeQmY3kXM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fthebillfold.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F12%252FPeter-Parker-on-assignment.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fthebillfold.com%252F2013%252F01%252Ffriday-estimate-14%252F%3B1600%3B1202

In this photo, he is using a Yashica Electro 35:

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1809&bih=948&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=camera+used+by+peter+parker&btnG=#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=j-hUXCli5ikV_M%3A%3BrEjFNqMgxKwP8M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.collegefashion.net%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F07%252Fpeter-header.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.collegefashion.net%252Finspiration%252Fgeek-chic-fashion-inspired-by-the-amazing-spider-man%252F%3B600%3B300

And that strap is pretty readily available on eBay etc. I actually happen to own it. Just search eBay for "hippie camera strap" or "embroidered camera strap".

Anyway, yes, Peter Parker is depicted as being a 35mm photojournalist, not digital. The Yashica Electro 35 is a rangefinder camera which is a very classic photojournalist camera because it is small and quiet. While in real life, no professional photojournalist has probably ever used a Yashica, preferring something very costly such as Leica or Zeiss, I'm quite sure that the director was sending a signal that a cheap Yashica is all one needs to take a good photo. In fact, while the Spiderman movies were shot on digital cameras, they used film for explosion and some action scenes. And while we're at it, many action hero movies such as Transformers and the Dark Knight series were shot entirely on film.

There are good reasons for this and if you really want to learn about photography, it would be worth exploring by picking up a 35mm camera! I can't imagine any reason that you as an amateur photographer NEED a digital camera over a film camera, or vice versa. They are just two different approaches to photography and workflow. If you do a little thinking and reading, you may find that you don't NEED a digital camera and that you could learn a lot from the message being sent by the director through Peter Parker's character; film is still relevant.

The Fuji X100 and X10 are modern digital cameras that LOOK like old 35mm rangefinders. But when you buy cameras like this, you are paying a premium for a digital camera that has unnecessary cosmetics. It would be more economical and educational in many cases to just shoot on a vintage 35mm camera.

Enjoy whatever camera you choose though!

Suggestions For Finding A Digital Camera?

MxM<3

I'm looking for a digital camera that would be good for me.
I'm only 16 years old, and I'm not looking for a professional camera... just something to take pictures on.
Taking pictures is probably the thing that I do most often, so this is very important to me.
I would like a camera that is:
1. Relatively cheap, under $200.
2. Good looking, and preferably small.
3. Takes good quality pictures, what is the point of having a digital camera if all of the pictures are going to be pixelated or deformed?
4. Long battery life, and sturdy. I don't want this camera to break after 2 months of use.

Any suggestions?
And also, where can I find the camera that you are recommending?

THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)

Answer
I recommend something from Canon. You can get older models of the Canon IXUS, which are all pretty good! They produce decent, true colour images and are great!

One thing I have to warn though... NEVER BUY OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAS. I currently own one, I hate it, I regret getting it(I picked it and my dad got it)and I am stuck with it. They produce the CRAPPIEST images even though mine is one of the latest models(well maybe like 5th or 6th latest),and it's just plain HORRIBLE. I'd never trust Olympus again. It adds a lot of noise to pictures. Especially in low light

Anyways, also get a camera that has rechargeable batteries. Like not those batteries you buy each time, the thin ones then you just have to put in a charger then put it back.

Good luck

What do you think about the Canon Powershot SD600 Digital Camera?

star_fire2

I'm going to get a new camera (old one's not working) and I want a really good one that I'll get my money's worth out of and be able to take great shots, even videos, just for everyday things as well as events. I found out about this one and reviews made it sound great, but I'm just getting backup opinions before I decide to buy it. I even found a site to get it for $160 instead of $400. So if you could rate it 1-10 and say why, or just give comments, that'd be great.

Answer
Canon's SD models are excellent ultra compact cameras, and the SD600 was a very popular model about...1 1/2 years ago.

It's a very good little camera but, you might also want to consider a newer model. Maybe the SD1000, which features the latest Digic III processor (which means the camera will be faster and image quality is better). It also has a higher res. LCD and other improved features.
You would need to buy a high speed SD card for optimum camera performance.
The camera is available for just over US$200 (online)...which is not much extra to pay for newer technology.

But, if you are not prepared to pay extra, then the SD600 is a fine little camera. Just make sure you buy a fast SD card (Sandisk Ultra II or the faster, Extreme III). 1-2GB is a good minimum, which will provide plenty of storage for photos/videos. Make sure your photo quality is set to...Superfine/Large..and your movies, 640x480 at 30fps.

good luck...

I'm basically wanting one of these for making videos for YouTube and for everyday use. I am wanting it to be able take up to 10 minute videos or more so I can put them on YouTube. Do you know how long the video time range is on either one of these cameras? Do you like the quality of the pictures and videos on these cameras? If you have either of these cameras please tell me why you like it and what you don't like about it. Thanks!!

Answer
I recommend the Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. This camera can take a limit of one hour or 4GBs worth of video. These videos can be replayed on a computer and uploaded to YouTube. You can find this camera on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Canon-SD1200IS-Stabilized-Dark-Gray/dp/tech-data/B001SER492/ref=de_a_smtd.

The SD1200 has some big changes over its predecessor SD1100, and is the smallest, best designed Elph I've used thus far.

I've owned many models of Elph, this is my 6th or 7th, so my review is aimed especially at other serial Canon owners. I mostly compare the SD1200 to the SD1100.

* The big changes: Digic4 and a larger CCD sensor. The slight increase in CCD size (1/2.3" vs 1/2.5") should make for "cleaner" photos. And Digic4 promises faster/cleaner shots also.

* You get 10MP vs 8MP on the SD1100, and "medium" (M1) size is now 6MP. JPG quality is down to 2 setting: Fine or Normal.

* SD1200 is only slightly smaller than the SD1100, but feels notably smaller by virtue of curved edges and the LCD being flush with the body (no bump-out).

* The 1200 now feels as small as this design can shrink. Good news: my average-sized male hands can still comfortably hold it, barely not covering lens, flash, or resting on the LCD. But the round power-button is now almost too small to press if you had big fingers and no fingernails.

* 1200's new battery is a higher capacity 1000mAh (vs ~760mAh for SD1100). There's also a new charger (not compatible with the old batteries), a glossy white-colored model to blend into your wall.

* The buttons and menus are streamlined. There's now a button for review mode, pressing it a 2nd time takes you back to the previous state. Handy. The slider has dedicated AUTO and Manual settings, no longer need to use menus for that switch.

* Continuous mode and ISO now are in the Function Menu (on the SD1100, they had dedicated buttons).

* A SD card is no longer included. This makes sense to me, a 32MB card is barely useful, and with the downward pressure on electronics prices, I can't imagine Canon wanting to bundle a more expensive/bigger card. Some people will find this lack annoying.

* The A/V output is gone, and the USB connector now serves both purposes (both kinds of included cables now have a USB-end)

* A new version of Canon software is required for this model, Zoombrowser 6.3. Canon typically requires a new release for each new family/season of cameras. Unfortunately, the CameraWindow software has been intentionally dumbed-down in the 6.x software and no longer offers the options to delete your photos (have to go through the OS), nor to chose custom naming for the downloads. I say intentionally, since I asked Canon customer-support about it and they stated the changes were not bugs. The last Canon software to still have that functionality was 5.x, corresponding to the SD1000 and other cameras released that season.

* In casual indoor tests, the 1200 seemed more ready to go to ISO400 (often too "noisy" to be useful) when the SD1100 would have chosen ISO200.

* The SD1200 and SD1100 have identical specs on their optics. However, I noticed a more pronounced barrel-distortion on the 1200 at extreme wide-angle. (still only noticable in close-up shots of straight-edged items at wide-angle)

* In a casual speed test, the SD1200 took/stored photos notably faster the SD1100 (same scene, continuous-mode, same brand SD card), despite the 1200's image size being larger.

* Canon's paper manuals have been shrinking steadily. With this model, the only manual included is a quick-start guide, the rest is on CD-ROM.

* The packaging is even more efficient than before, about half the size of the SD1100's box.

* Sadly, there is no HD video mode, although all of the other Elphs released this spring had HD. SD1200 owners are stuck with 640x480 video.

Canon has several sub-series within the compact Elph line, varying mostly by asthetics and optics. The SD1200 is successor to the series that included the SD1100, SD1000, and SD600. These all favor a classic, slim design. If you're unfamiliar with Canon's Powershot cameras, there's lots of good material out there on camera sites such as dpreview.

In general, the small sensors and optics in all ultra-compact digital cameras lead to some optical quirks (such as barrelling), chromatic aberrations, over/under-exposure in bright sunlight/shade, and underpowered flashes. That's intrinsic to the size of camera, and vendors try to correct these effects in their on-board processing. My opinion is that Canon does a good job of correcting for these issues and the Elphs including the SD1200 take very good photos for their size.

Driver Software for Canon Digital Rebel XT?

Q. I recently moved from home, and brought my Rebel XT with me. I am using a Dell Studio laptop running Windows Vista 64 bit. This computer DOES NOT have a disk drive.

Because of the missing disk drive, I can not install the driver software that came with my camera, and I can not download the version Canon gives on the website because it is not compatible with Vista 64 bit.

Is there any way to download a version of driver software compatible with my OS and my camera? Or do I need to buy a card reader and/or a portable disk drive? I can't find anything on the web.

Thanks!

Answer
Try connecting the camera to the laptop using the USB cable. It should be detected by Windows Explorer (My Coomputer) automatically as a Removable Storage Device (or something to the tune of that). From there, you could copy, delete, or move files around to and from your camera. If you would want to edit them, use your favorite graphics program like Photoshop, Corel or Paintbrush. Irfanview is a free downloadable graphics program that is simple to use.

If the camera is not detected by Windows, buy a cheap card reader, insert the camera's memory card there and connect then to the laptop. Again, it should be detected by Windows automatically.

Best digital camera with HD video?

I'm looking for a digital camera that isn't very bulky and that can record HD video for at least two hours worth of footage. I also need it to have a spot to put in an SD memory card.
I basically am just looking for something that is great for both taking photos and shooting videos for under $300 and isn't too bulky.
Thanks!

Burning HD video from digital camera?

I have an HD video (.mov file) of my daughter's winter concert from this new camera (Canon t1i) and Windows 7 only accepts .avi files and other windows related files. How can I burn this 1080p HD .mov file to dvd and keep the quality? Thanks.

While you can only edit certain video files using a Windows platform, you can burn the .MOV file to a DVD or CD (depending upon how large it is)

canon 6d camera deal, on ebay,?

litleboy78

a friend of mine wants me to buy the 6D from the following link. he is from Mexico, so he cant buy it directly, I told him is too good to be true, $300 lower than B&H, I found a few complaints about getitdigital, Does anyone have experience with getitdigital? I couldn't persuade him to not buy from this ebay seller. so if this is real, its a very cheap option.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Canon-EOS-6D-20-1-MP-CMOS-Digital-SLR-Camera-with-3-0-Inch-LCD-Body-Only-/171040563426?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item27d2cfe0e2
I know the money is protected, I'm concern how long it will take to resolve and get money back.. or if it like Edwin says, if there is no USA warranty and cant recover money after X amount of time.

Its his money, he knows, just wanted more advise on it.

Answer
Is your friend aware that the price is for just the camera BODY? No lens is included. It says in the description that its in the original box which was opened and the lens removed. Also, your friend needs to inquire about the warranty which may or may not be good here in North America and/or Mexico. I'm thinking this is a grey market camera that 'getitdigital' imported from Hong Kong or Singapore or elsewhere and if it ever needs warranty service your friend will have to ship back to its country of origin.

Tell your friend its better safe than sorry and to buy from an Authorized Canon Dealer.

Is there any compact digital camera with proper image quality?

jarvis pow

To be honest, I personally don't wanna pay for some extra MPs and actually I personally don't give a damn of MP size of the camera after my experiences with some slim cameras. It can be somewhere between 1 MP and 1000MP, taht really doesn't bother me. What counts for me is overall balance and image quality I get at the end.

I would like to get your opinions on these. Bcs these look quite sexy to me:
CANON IXUS 100 IS
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD780IS12-1-Stabilized-Black/dp/B001SER47Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1248552121&sr=8-1

Have you had any positive/negative experience with these ones?

Do you have any brighter alternatives than this ones for the price range?

Greets,
J.
@fhotoace:
Thank you for the comments! Would you recommend any slim camera for the price range?

Answer
The Canon 1100IS is a very nice camera, less than 200.00, gives very good images for snap shots. IF you want to drop the bucks, the Canon G-10 is top line for image and just about anything else you can name.

I'm looking to get a digital camera to take pictures of my friends and stuff...

I don't know what a good camera consists of like mp and what not...

I don't have a huge ammount of money to work with eather $0-$100

I want a good quality camera with out breaking the bank and leaving me with cobwebs in my wallet...

so any way you can help will be great!!!!
I was looking at this one...I can get it for around 100.
Canon PowerShot A460 5.0MP

Answer
Here's a review of the A460:

http://www.cameras.co.uk/camera-reviews/canon-powershot-a460.cfm

Cameras in that price range will make noisy (grainy) images and that means the quality will suffer.

Unfortunately things don't get much better until you spend a lot more.

But if you absolutely can't spend more than 100 clams, the Canon is the one to get as it's the top-selling brand.

Which brand of digital camera is better? A Sony or a Canon?

Ken

Answer
http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/ultra-compact_ratings.html

Just look at the reviews from customer. Sony makes great looking cameras. Canon makes great cameras that takes great pictures and are the most reliable.
My old Fuji camera looked great but it broke just before the warranty and after it's repair it shots off after 5 seconds just after my warranty.

Trust me, you don't want to get it repair. It usually will break again.

I have own many Canon cameras and they all last more than 3 years. I usually give it to my sister or cousin. Nowadays, you can sell it online and get good money for it.

Sony use memory stick which are more expensive and some laptops don't take memory stick so it's not as compatible.

I wanted to buy American, but Kodak makes crappy cameras from customer reviews.

Good Luck!

Would you recommend me buying a sony or canon digital camera?

sony h7 or canon s3is?

Answer
Both of these are excellent cameras.

The S3IS has been out over a year and has received many positive professional reviews.

The H7 is a brand new model, so I have not seen a pro review yet. However, based on the reviews of last year's model H5, the H7 should also be excellent.

The H7 has several updated features that should give it an advantage over the S3IS. It has:

. 8 MP vs 6 MP
. A 15x zoom vs 12x zoom, which starts at a wider wide-angle
. A stronger Sports mode
. A bigger LCD screen

You should hold each camera in your hands and try taking some test pics. Each camera has a slightly different feel and controls.

I have a Sony H1 and my daughter has a Canon S2IS. Both of these earlier models have given excellent results. I prefer the Sony controls and bigger LCD, but that is just presonal preference.

Good Luck

Digital cameras: Casio, Canon, Panasonic...?

lukeandmar

I had a Casio 10MP Exilim (got it at Halloween). Had it for less than 3 months, and the lense got stuck in the out position (just as I was going to snap a photo)- and wouldn't go back in. That being said - I had to return it.

Now, I have store credit to buy a camera...

These are the ones I can choose from (within my budget):

The same Casio 10MP Exilim (give it another try) OR

Canon Powershot A650 IS (12MP)

Canon Powershot SD850 IS (8MP)

Panasonic DMC-FZ18 (8MP)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 (8MP)

Any advice out there?

I have two kids under the age of two and I use my camera for them mostly. Lots and lots of pics, action shots, quick photos, and a lot of short video...

PLEASE HELP! Any advice would be appreciated!!!

thanks!

Answer
I'd personally choose a Canon for its reputation and its position as a leader. However, considering these cameras are within the same price range, they have pretty much the same set of features so any would do. The Panasonic DMC-FZ18 looks very nice and is probably the best bet in there since it's a "bridge" camera, in other words a cross-over between compact P/C and a digital SLR. It SHOULD give you better performances than compact point and shoots cameras (i.e. less delay between shots, better resolution because of its larger sensor, better noise control etc.) good luck!

what is the best digital camera brand?

Answer
I LOVE my Canon PowerShot A620. It's a 7.1 mp camera which takes awesome still shots, and just as awesome video. Great for home and everyday use. Easy to take on vacations and you can take some really artistic/creative photos too. A great all-around camera. My 35mm cameras are Canon too, and I still love and use it. .

I had a Sony, and I gave that to my daughter, and purchased the Canon PowerShot A610 for my teenage son. The Canon A610 is exactly like my A620, but is a 5 mp digital camera. They both take GREAT pictures, but my favorite thing about the camera, is the vari-angle LCD screen. You can even hook it up to your tv and see your pictures/video on whatever size screen you have. It's pretty neat on the big screens! (The necessary cords come with it). It is very easy to use, and a camera you can grow with. http://www.usa.canon.com
Go to 'products' to 'consumer products' to lead you to the cameras.

Our A610/A620 has a setting, call "kids&pets". Typically you use these on the subjects that usually has a hard time keeping still. But I also use this setting when taking pictures of my soccer team during game play. I've also taken pictures of my kids, nieces and nephews jumping in the air, a la cheerleader jumps, with great results. Lag time is very, very, very minimal. (e.g. delay from pressing button to actual camera capturing the shot). This is just one of the many settings the camera has to offer and you can also manually set and program your own settings.

For ease of point and shoot, just choose the setting in which you're taking pictures of, (i.e. indoor, outdoor, nighttime, portrait, fireworks, snow, beach, and 'auto' [automatic]), and it'll adjust accordingly the proper exposure/settings. And it even has an 'underwater' mode to use, but that's if you purchase the special housing for the camera. (I don't have the housing. I'll wait to save up or find it for very inexpensive). If you get more experience or for the experienced, you can manually choose exposure and settings like the old 35 mm.

I'm a bargain hunter. I purchased both NEW Canon this late spring 2006 on line. My son's was under $200 and mine was $204. Just Google (or Froogle) or Yahoo! Search any Canon model, and then see which merchant has the best price with those low price websites and order on-line. The price is waaaay better than going physically to the stores. If you need it right away, just upgrade the shipping. It's still cheaper than buying at the stores. No matter what model camera you're searching for, better prices are on-line.

I don't know if you'll find this model (A610) at the stores. They have newer models, the A630 (8mp) and the A640 (10mp), they boast more mega-pixels and ISO settings. But 5mp, more than suffices for most users. What I did was physically touched and feel the camera at the store, then go on-line to purchase. But if you prefer to purchase at the stores, some good places are Best Buy, Wal Mart and Target. Suprisingly enough, they have good selection at Wal-Mart and Target.

Here is the link if you'd like to check out the specs on these models and other Canon cameras: http://www.usa.canon.com
and go to 'products' to 'consumer products' to lead you to the cameras. It tells you what the camera has and what it looks like up close.

While you're searching on-line, you'll also find many reviews on these cameras. All with many positives things to say about the camer and you can also find information on these cameras in Yahoo! Tech http://tech.yahoo.com/rc/digital-cameras...

What brand is best for digital SLR cameras? Nikon or Canon?

Q. Or which brand do you prefer?

I'm looking into purchasing a DSLR camera but i'm stuck on which brand to get. I've owned both Nikon and Canon digital camera's and i've noticed that Nikon has a poor picture quality. I'm unsure if that is also the case with Nikon's DSLR camera's. I'm also only an amature photographer that focuses on landscape, marco and portrait shooting. Any Suggestions on lens's would be great too!

Answer
I like canon Compact cameras more then I do Nikon, but in the DSLR run, Canon and Nikon are basically the exact same in every way. Its like Coke v. Pepsi. You have people that like Canon, and you have people that like Nikon

Either way, you will have to buy the camera and an extra lens or two for the macro and the portraits

you will have to tell us a budget for all the equipment, because the cheapest you can make it is about $1000 for what you want to do.

If you are a beginner, you can look at the Nikon D3000, D5000, and D3100 and the Canon Rebel Xs, T1i, and T2i. All of these are under $1000 with one lens

if you are more intermediate, the Nikon D7000 is a great camera, followed by the D300s. and these two are $1500-$1800 with a single lens.

as for lenses, this is a good all-around lens that can do portraits somewhat and can do macro
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/2190/AF-S-DX-Micro-NIKKOR-85mm-f%252F3.5G-ED-VR.html
Canon has their equivalent

then you have probably the best portrait lens:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/2180/AF-S-NIKKOR-50mm-f%252F1.4G.html
along with another macro lens.

Canon digital camera?

Be B

I just got a canon digital camera model a720. This camera also takes short videos...I read the instruction manual, 2 times.
How do I get the videos off of the camera and to the computer?
Step by step please?

Answer
I don't know your camera's exact model but this is what I do for my cannon,
a) Pop the memory card out (should be an flap ont he side of your camera that you can push the card in and it then pops out)
b) you then insert it into your computer, or an external memory card reader which hooks into your computer via a USB port.
c) go to 'my computer' click your memory card and navigate to your video that you took and copy / cut and then paste it into a folder on your computer.
Voila, theres one way to do it. :-D

Number 2
a) your camera should have come with software (on a CD) and a cable.
b) install the software
c) hook your cable into your camera
d) do the same thing you do for taking off your pictures but somewhere in the stpes there should be an option to take the videos off the camera or take the pictures, choose videos.

Way 3 (this is just an idea, I'm not 100% sure on this one)
a) take that cable used in way 2 and plug in your camera to your computer, then you might be able to navigate from my computer to your camera and pull the files off similarly to way 1.

If you didn't get a CD or cable with your camera, then you need to return the camera or go ask the store that you bought it from. If you have a memory card slot on your computer (which many new computers do have) then use that, it's the easiest way to pull pictures, and videos off your camera.

Hope that was helpful ;-)

Answer
While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something below that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the first link in the information below for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $149.99 at Best Buy store yesterday.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

High mega pixel settings may not be best. It takes longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. When buying a new camera, look for an optical viewfinder (LCD not visible in bright sun) and check replacement battery prices.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

digital camera!!!?

Sarah S

im wondering if those cybershot cameras that everyone has or any good. i would assume they are since everyone has them. where could i get them for the lowest price? or are there any other digital cameras that you recommend? thanks :]

Answer
yeah cybershot cameras are really good...the w series is the budget line and they take gr8 pics too...the T series looks gr8..sleek and stylish..they are gud but are highly priced....

canon SD series is gr8 for a compact digital camera...
go for canon or sony if u r planning to buy a compact digicam...if u want an SLR, go with a Nikon !

And while searching for low price...dont go for websites that claim to sell electronics for very low prices than normal...i saw a couple websites and there were around 2000+ "good" reviews too...but then i googled it out, there were a lot of horror stories about some local shops which do these kinds of fraud...advertise low prices, when u buy the item, u may not get the one u ordered..u may get a refurbished one..or whatever...go for bestbuy or circuitcity...or Amazon...any trusted seller!!

I have a canon sd850 and sony w80...both take great pics...good exposure...can take gud pics in low light conditions..

Whats a good digital camera?

Q. I'm looking for a new camera that's around $100 or $120 I know that's not a lot but does anyone know a really nice digital camera please...?

Answer
Choose any Canon, Nikon, Samsung, Pentax, Panasonic or Sony. All 2012 and 2013 digital camera models are very powerful. Go to a store and put your hands on different cameras. See which cameras are within your budget and feel good. Any camera you buy will not disappoint you as long as you use it in good light. Most under $150 cameras will not work well in shooting fast moving objects indoor or taking photos in dull light. For that you will need to spend more than $500.
Now besides the camera, you can learn some basic photography lessons and get the most out of your powerful camera. Search the Internet and learn about Exposure Compensation, Multiple shots (fps), Timer, Bracketing, proper use of flash. Also use tripod and take photos with low ISO for stationary objects or for landscapes.
If you train yourself, any camera will help you get nice photos in most situations.
Good luck.

Just nothing to actually DOWNLOAD the program.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_a4000_is_blue?color=Silver

You can help each other out, lend each other equipment, and in the end no person in the world can look at a picture and tell you if it was shot on a nikon or canon.

what optical zoom does a Canon EOS Rebel T3i Camera have?

gmanz73

what optical zoom does a Canon EOS Rebel T3i Camera have? and what is the difference between these 2 cameras, what would you recommend for macro jewelry photography?

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX100V 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Still Camera with Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 30x Optical Zoom Lens and Full HD 1080 Video

and

Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera and DIGIC 4 Imaging with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens

Answer
The Sony would be like a Vespa scooter and the Canon a Harley.

P&S cameras only have the lens that comes with them, so you need to know what the optical zoom range is to know its limitations.

A dSLR is a fully adjustable camera and can use interchangeable lenses from fisheye to super telephoto.

dLSR's do not come with "optical zoom ranges", because that depends upon the lenses you buy.

My Nikkor 300 mm f/2.8 would be a 1x optical zoom lens since it is NOT a zoom lens, but a prime lens. Another, the 18-200 mm lens would be a 11x zoom if it was welded to my camera and I could not replace it. When using a dSLR, forget about optical zoom ranges.

I have two other lenses which if were on a P&S camera like the Sony would both have optical zooms of 2x, the 12-24 mm and the 200-400 mm. One is for shooting extreme wide angle shots and the other for shooting sports or wildlife, so knowing the optical zoom "range" means nothing

Canon EOS Rebel T3 V. T3i?

Pamala

I am interested in buying either one of the 2 camera's Canon EOS Rebel T3 or T3i. My purpose for this is basicly to create stock photography for myself and those digital artist's out there who love to create manipulations and premade backgrounds. So the photo quality needs to be in excellent condition for the artists and also myself, so I don't want there to be any blurriness or graininess, and the photo's can't be pixelated. Or at least hardly pixelated I suppose.

I was at first using a Canon Powershot camera, but saw that the photos were very pixelated after uploading them into my computer, so lesson learned there. So this is why I am very interested in either the Canon EOS Rebel T3 or T3i.

I know someone who has the T3 and saw the quality of it, which was very good. But I am curious if anyone has a sample photo of some landscaping useing the T3i, as I would like to see the difference?

If anyone does have a sample photo, the original dimensions would be great to see it in and with no photo enhancement done to it. Though a watermark is fine, that I wouldn't mind, as I don't want anyone to feel like I am going to steal their photography work.

Answer
No need to worry about certain pictures taken with the T3i, I can show you horrible ones with a $5000 DSLR and beautiful ones with a $400 one. All DSLRs today are pretty much the same and you could never tell (based on quality) which camera was used. The T3 is a more beginner model which is obvious in its specifications and also on the body size/weight, whereas the T3i has a better sensor with better low light performance, an articulating screen which may sometimes be useful for real estate photography in tight spaces.

My Canon camera has a battery problem?

frecklefac

i have a canon A570 and i love it...it takes really good pictures and its easy to use, but lately ive noticed that it goes through batteries really fast. from the time i put the batteries in to the time they die is between 10 and 20 minutes. this is time that im taking pictures, not just being on. i havent even had it for a year yet, and i dont think this should be happening. should i get reghargable batteries, or just a new camera?

Answer
You should have been using rechargeable batteries from the beginning.

Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be severely damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with safety timer, temperature monitor, and trickle charge technology ($9.76) at Walmart. For longer life, use Duracell 2000mAh batteries and a full cycle charge monthly. To preserve battery charge, use the view finder and not the LCD screen when possible.

Reset by removing power up to one month is the ultimate non-physical repair for DVD recorders and other software-using digital devices. Digital cameras reset to original settings if batteries are removed. Time required varies with function and camera. Try one minute. Check display and setup menu for non-auto functions and date/time. Remove extra memory to eliminate this as a possible problem. Insert fully charged batteries and restart the camera.

Check the source link for other camera tips and help with making digital cameras work better.

Does a slim digital camera like this exist?

Sissy

I am looking for a slim pocket digital camera but I would love for it to have the following features:

1. viewfinder (this is a must as I cannot always see well through LCD screens).

2. decent Optical Zoom capabilities (digital zoom is fine too but would like some optical zoom as it's superior).

3. capabilities to take video/sound recording.

4. capabilities to shoot photo after photo without a lot of delay.

I've been researching cameras with my husband for an upcoming holiday and each time we see one we like, we end up finding something we don't like about it or negative reviews. We just want a decent compact, stylish camera if this is possible. The viewfinder problem is especially annoying to us as viewfinders conserve batteries much better than LCD screen and they are easier to see through.

I hope someone will have some good suggestions for us :-)

Thanks,
Sissy

Answer
Here are two cameras to consider from Canon. THe Powershot SD700-IS and SD900 both sound like they fit your specifications. I admit that this answer is a composte of 3 different "stock" answers, so there might be some duplcaite references. You might want the SD700-IS, because it has a greater zoom range, but I like the way the SD900 is a 10 MP camera and it has the larger sensor to take advatage of the pixel count.

Check out this comparison page. Click on "In-depth review" and "Read Owner Opinions" for each camera. Be sure to note that the reviews are many pages long so you don't stop after page one. Check the sample images, also. You can enlarge these to full size images if you click on the link below the picture. You will have to then put your cursor in the white space to the right of the picture and click once. After that, you can pass your cursor over the image and it will turn into a magnifier. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like fringing or noise.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_sd700is%2Ccanon_sd900&show=all

After answering questions here for about 8 months, I finally decided to get a Canon Powershot SD900. I was going to go for the SD700-IS, but they were out of stock everywhere and it gave me time to re-think my purchase. This is going to be a pocket camera to use when I don't want to carry one of my SLR's with me, but I still want really great image quality from the camera. Anyhow, after months and months of reading reviews, the SD900 was my top choice. I found a review in Popular Photography the day after I ordered my Canon that suggests that maybe the Pentax Optio A20 would have been a better choice, but, I don't believe it. The Pentax does have shake reduction, but I doubt this will be necessary in a camera that only zooms to an equivalent of 114 mm and I just can not believe that 10 MP on a smaller 1/2.5" sensor (Pentax) will be better than 10 MP on a 1/1.8" sensor (Canon) that is nearly twice as large.

Anyhow, go here to see the comparison article on 5 compact camera and see what you think. If you really don't want to read reviews, I am still happy that I am got the Canon SD900 and this would be my recommendation for anyone at this point, since it is what I chose for myself. I ordered from B&H Photo where the price is $343 (today) for the SD900. They have been playing with the price point for this camera since Christmas and that's why I say "today." Every time I check back, it's got a different price.

After about one month of using the SD900, I am so happy with it that I bought one to give to my niece as an engagement present. I am that confident in the camera.

I also bought a 5-year Mack warranty for $50. If you are even a little paranoid or clutzy, I feel that it is money well-spent. These are somewhat delicate compared to SLR's.

http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/3471/high-5-10mp-compacts.html Click on the name of each camera to read a detailed review.

Here is a comparison page with all five cameras. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like fringing or noise.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/sd900.html

Here is one photo I put on-line that I took with the SD900. Click on "All Sizes" and view this as large as possible and check out the birds. This was taken right after sunset and there were no enhancements in afterprocessing. http://www.flickr.com/photos/7189769@N04/409551806/

If you want to shoot movies and also in the continuous mode (minimum shutter lag), you will want a high speed, high capacity memory card. I'd suggest the Sandisk 2 GB Ultra II -which sells for $65 now. Add this to the cost of the camera that you choose.
