How do I upgrade the lens of my canon powershot digital camera?

nicolerao8

I have a canon digital camera with a 4x optical zoom. what kind of lens do i look for to upgrade to higher zoom? I am pretty camera dumb but am getting into pics so want a camera that wont get blurry upon getting far a way pics.
I found telephoto lenses that are 3x does that mean that my new zoom would be 7x since I already have a 4x or does it replace what the camera already has? This is where I am getting confused.

Answer
Most cheaper non-DSLR cameras will not allow you to upgrade: the most you could hope to do is get an adapter piece and a telephoto mount for it.

This only works if you actually spent good money on that camera, though since most don't afford it. Plus, telephotos are not worth the money if the zoom is that low, so you should just get a new camera in my opinion.

Edit: A telephoto will compound with your camera's optical zoom, so 4x3 = 12x zoom.

I should warn that most telephotos tend to make it more difficult to hold your camera in a balanced way and usually require their own stands if you want a clean shot.

hmm

I just bought a Canon 7D and I don't know anything about photography at this point but want to learn. I don't know what lenses to buy and am a bit overwhelmed. I want to do inside and outdoor portrait photography. Not focusing on motion. I also am interested in outdoor photography, landscapes, and architecture. I am most interested in day time photography too (although a lens that is good in different levels of light would be nice). THANK YOU for your help!

Answer
Use the lens that came with your camera until you know enough about photography to pick a lens yourself.

Which Canon digital camera model is the best for amateur photographers!?

Hez H

I would like to buy a Canon camera, not a big professional one, I would also like to know which model gives the best picture quality as well as practical one. Thanks.

Answer
unless you care about brand that much, I wouldn't recommend canon. You're paying more for brand name. Go to best buy and check out Nikon and Sony. Those two brands have Cameras equal and better quality that canon and they're not overpriced. Sony has more high quality compact cameras where Nikon has more larger ones and you can add different lenses if you would like. If you're really set on getting a canon, get the canon EOS 7d slr. It's a nice camera even though it's overpriced

Hi, my parents are in their late eightys and I want to interview them about their life for my siblings and I to each have a DVD of them. They will be sitting in a recliner inside their home. I will be interviewing them every week over the next year as I have a lot of questions to ask them. I know absolutely nothing about camcorders, sd cards and microphones attached or external jacks. I have searched tirelessly for an answer and have not succeeded.
Please, can someone tell me exactly what I need to interview my parents for hours at a time and to make sure they are heard once I make the DVD, which will be another exhaustive search as I have no idea how to do this either.
Once I record on this "SD" card can I download the video then erase the video from the card and use it again. Do I need a 32 or 64.
My budget is around $200 so I need something simple to use but will also be good for just setting on a table and aiming it at them and being able to hear them. Sorry for repeating myself so much.

Answer
HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

DSLR Cameras, all Makes, all Models, all have the same problem when video taping some long videos, all overheat at the 13 to 18 minute mark, depending on the Make and Model. This is unavoidable, it all has to with the fact, video is an afterthought in DSLR camera production.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

Then you will need a Video Editing Program that make a DVD right from the Timeline, Like Pinnacle Studio 14 HD Ultimate collections - http://asimplelife.ca/nle.html can do. You can put all the Videos on a Local Hard Drive in your Computer, then open the PS Program, put the videos on the Timeline in the order you want, then press the Make Movie Key, then it can write a DVD. You can put a menu. just like a Movie you rent with Play button, chapters, outtakes and all that. That program has the ability to write a DVD, just like the ones you rent from a Video Rental store, operating in the exact same way.

How to set up and use a Canon 650D digital camera?

canon digital camera download image

Geb

How can I set up a new Canon 650D digital camera and what are suitable hardware and software that I could buy to use with the camera to view, edit and print my photographs.
Also explain how to set it up and maintain it.

Answer
Explain how to set up and maintain the Canon DSLR. Tells me that you bought a DSLR because everybody on this site told you too. Now you are faced with how to operate the darn thing. Simply put you bought more camera than you should have. Well the only thing is to make the best of it.

LETS ADDRESS YOUR QUESTIONS FIRST:
1.You should not get into editing beyond the simple cropping that processors offer for now, you have enough on your plate. I always use a store in my community for most of my pictures.. I do not go into their store except to "pick-up" my order. I use their web site to crop, & order my prints. I don't like putting my memory card into machines that have been abused by every "Tom, Dick & Harry!"
COMPUTER UPLOADING: buy & use a memory card reader ($6.00) instead of the camera to computer cord that drives people nuts.
2. Hardware; there is no hardware to buy now or ever. If you are referring to lenses, you do not have the experience now to go out and spend money on lenses that YOU really don't have a need for yet.
SOFTWARE: you should have connected your camera to your computer for any up dates to your camera, when you first got your camera. Make this a once a year project. When I connected my camera, the web site updated the cameras software so I could use the (then) new SDHC memory cards.
3. Set the camera up and maintain it. Starting backwards unless you use some other size battery you should get yourself about 3 sets of double "A" rechargeable batteries. The best brand are Eneloop. Buy together with a battery charger is the most economical way. If you have a different size battery buy two extras batteries, or at least one. Keep batteries charged , what ever size you use.
4. NECK STRAP- Yahoo does not like it when I use capitals all the time BUT this is perhaps the most important thing you can do. Always wear the neck strap. You drop this camera, be warned-dropping is NOT covered under warranty! The camera belongs in two places only, around your neck or in the gadget bag! Not carry by it's strap in your hands (like that blasted Nikon commercial implies!)
5.Auto setting, most people who own DLSR's recommend against using the "Auto" setting. But I recommend YOU use it until you become familiar with your camera.

I also recommend you invest in some easy to read books by Scot Kelby. He writes in a very easy to read style. I have a few because at first digital was foreign to me coming from a film environment.
The really nice thing about his books beyond the understanding factor is his web site. He often refers you to his web site to make visual presentations easier to understand! This is a real plus for me.
And while we are on the subject of reading you should check amazon for a good book on your model camera. Instruction books are often hard to read because it seems they do not employ "tech" writers anymore and you are left with what is left.

That is enough on your plate!

Good Luck

P.S. I just read "Jim A's" advise on the manual. He is correct but I take it one step further. I download and PRINT the manual, leaving out simple things I already know like putting batteries in the camera etc. I take the remaining pages to a large place like Staples and have them cut and spiral bind the rest. I carry this home made manual with me should I encounter a situation I am not familiar with.
All this editing and preparing also enhances my knowledge of the camera and I find I have less & less to refer to. And while I am on my soapbox, get your backside out there and shoot and shoot. Experience is the best teacher!

How can I download my pics from digital camera?

Dixie Deb

I lost the software to my Canon power shot A540 digital camera, so how can I download my pics to my computer?

Thank you!

Answer
The quickest, fastest, easiest way is to get a SD Card to USB reader. When you're ready to download the shots you simply turn off the camera, take out the card, insert it into the SD Card reader and it shows up under your computer like a hard drive.

Check your manual, if you hook up the camera straight to the computer via a USB cable (one should have shipped with the camera) you may get a similar result - extra hard drive. But be warned, USB to Camera is usually very slow.

Failing that, give Canon support a call. They'll hook you up with something - they've got great customer service.

best canon digital camera for low light image

R G

I am looking for a camera under £100, and i will mainly need to use it in low light conditions so need one that will produce good quality photos even when there is low light.

I have been considering the sony dsc - w50, or the sony dsc - s700, but the sony dsc - w50 is only 6 megapixels and the sony dsc - s700 is slightly big, and i want a more compact one.

So i need a compact digital camera, for under £100, that is at least 7 megapixels, and produces good quality photos in low light conditions.

How well does the Canon S5 IS work in low light/portrait situations?

Amanda V

I'm looking to upgrade my digital camera, but I'm not quite ready to make the investment in a DSLR. Out of the cameras I've seen the Canon S5 IS seems like an affordable alternative that will provide me the freedom I'd like. My consistent problem with digital cameras has been that I tend to photograph in low light/high-activity situations, (concerts, plays, late night shenanigans) and I'm always left with obscene digital grain, and unrecognizable blur. Does the Canon S5 IS have the ability to photograph well in these conditions?

Answer
The IS will definitely help you with the blur (as long as they are coming from your hand shaking because of the slow exposure), but I highly doubt that the digital noise will disappear with the S5 IS. The S5 IS use a 1/2.5" sensor which is pretty common in other pocket camera, and it's one of the reason why you see digital noise in low light situation.

Like other said, save up and get a DSLR. The XT is an excellent start for this, or if you want to get into the second hand market, the Digital Rebel/300D is just the camera for you.

Answer
Just saw this camera at Best Buy and Radio Shack. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $129.99 at Staples yesterday.
http://ezinearticles.com/?Canon-PowerShot-A590IS-Point-and-Shoot-Digital-Camera-Review&id=1743058 ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Lots of great camera tips in these two links. http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=38/10468/6368/333&pq-locale=en_US ...

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make digital cameras work better with complete instructions on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

What is a good 6-8 megapixel camera?

diasia9622

I want to get my boyfriend a great digital camera for his birthday. He is a really great photographer, but I have NO clue where to find the camera he would like. He wants a 6-8.1 megapixel camera w/ a removable (interchangeable, whatever, I don't have a clue)lens. Does anyone have any suggestions for a great camera?
PS yes I know the approximate cost, that isn't an issue

Answer
The Nikon d70 does not even hold up to the Canon Rebel XT 350D. I have shot with both. The pics side by side is no contest, Canon wins. Of course the canon is 8mp and the nikon is 6mp. That makes a huge difference.

AdviceporF

I have kind of a fanbase on a website or two, and really want to start a vlog, and my mom wants one(a vlog, that is) for business purposes. I want things to look FAIRLY professional, and not look or sound like my footage is being recorded with a phone. I've seen several on youtube that have really poor sound quality, and I know that also has to do with what's going on in the background, but some just seem to have this general buzz/din every time they record, or pick up EVERY NOISE, like when the camera is moved and it makes a sort of popping sound. I need a camera that can handle a fair amount of movement. I've got a price range of about $200, but I'm willing to make allowances as long as what you're mentioning is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY -- I am in NO WAY trying to shoot a movie or music video.

Thanks alot, and please include a link for the equipment in question if you can :D

Answer
Use a MinDV tape camcorder. To get the video Quality a 4300 MiniDV tape camcorder has, to get a HD camcorder with better Video Quality, you would have to spend in excess of $3300.

Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. I am a photography freak but dont have much budget to buy a new DSLR. Can some one please suggest me a website or something where I can have a DSLR for free? For location preferences, I live in India.

Answer
Hi King..

There are many contests which offer SLR Camera as prizes.. You need to keep searching for them and might hit the jackpot!

The one that is going on now is from Nikon (Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011). They are offering different cameras ranging from Nikon D3S digital-SLR camera (costing Rs 2.9 lac) to D5000 (Rs 50K). There are 53 cameras to be won and just not that, you will have Lenses, Speedlight and other accessories along with this. Indians are open to participate.

Link: http://www.nikon.com/about/news/2010/0630_npci2010_01.htm

Some tips to win:
# Do check the previous years winners list and you can get an idea of the kind of photos that get selected for finals
# Comply strictly by the rules (format, image size, categories etc.)
# Check the list of judges, google their name and go to their websites, see what kind of photos they like to shoot..

Do keep in mind.. if you are opting to win a prize, don't go by the notion of what photo of yours you like most.. but see and enter only those photos which may win you a camera.

Last year, a young boy from Mumbai won a high end DSLR from Canon in a street photography contest. He didn't even own a camera, he had hired one for a day from a local store for the contest.. took pictures, submitted them and he became a Lucky winner!! The article about him came in Better Photography Magazine.

So, there's all hope!!

All the best!!

In India which good cameras are available?

Jayzee

My budget is 15000. I am not a photography expert. I want a good photo clarity even in evening, decent optical zoom. Which brands are better?
Thanks

Answer
Look , there are two type of cameras..! One is the digital compact camera, and other is the professional one, which we call DSLR camera..! In This range you will not get any DSLR camera..! Like in Nikon the DSLR starts at Rs25000..! Well among the compact cameras i would STRONGLY recommend the Nikon AW100..! This is the first in Nikon's new AW series of waterproof, shock-proof, cold-resistant compact digital cameras ! This is really amazing, you can shoot underwater, it can withstand temperature as low as - 10°C (14°F)..! And it costs around 16000..! On nikon website, it says its MRP is 16,950..! But thats MRP ..! What type of camera would you suggest for me?

canon digital camera guide image

x_moopy_x

Right now, I'm looking at Nikon and Canon SLR Digital camera's [like the Canon Rebel xti, for example]. I just want some outside opinions on the type of camera I should purchase.
I previously had a Minolta Maxxum5, but I want to "upgrade" to a digital.
I love to take photographs of landscape and scenery [my family travels to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee very often], including old farm buildings, mountains, waterfalls, etc. I also take many pictures at live music shows, where the lighting can be very poor and there's a lot of action. Basically, i'm looking for an all around great camera.
Now, I'm not the richest person in the world either. I'm looking for a camera [body only] costing $600 or less.

If you could also guide me in the right direction as far as camera lenses, that would be great.

thanks a bunch.

Answer
If you have a couple of Minolta A-type mount lenses, you should look at the Sony Alpha-100 (A100) digital SLR, as this is the type of lens that the camera takes. The body alone is available at B&H Photo for $599. I'm not a HUGE fan of this camera, but it is one of the top 10 digital SLR's in the consumer market right now.

If you want to get away from your Minolta lenses or want to avoid Sony in the first place, the Nikon D40 and Canon Rebel XT are in your price range. They are the number 2 and 3 selling consumer SLR's right now. http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/4341/top-selling-digital-slrs-for-may.html I have abias towards the Nikon way of doing things and I usualyl recommend the D40, but you mentioned the Rebel XTi, so I will mention the XT as it is in your price range.

Since you have some experience, you ought to go to a camera shop and play with both the D40 and the XT and see what you think. The way they feel in your hands will be the deciding factor. I have a stock comparison that I will include here, though.......

~~~~~~~~~~
Nikon D40 vs. Canon EOS 350D (Rebel XT)
This isn't exactly what you asked for, but perhaps you will find it helpful in making your decision. I have never used a Canon EOS 350D, so I can't actually compare the cameras, but I favor the D40 because it has a spotmeter and the 350D doesn't. Although the D40 seems small, it is practically the exact same size as the 350D.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos350d%2Cnikon_d40&show=all
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond40/page17.asp
tells us that the Canon 350D meter calibration is off by about 1/3 of a stop. This would not really present any problems, except that it suggests "something" to me about the quality, since the Nikon and Pentax are dead on.
Scroll on down the page for image comparisons. The D40 is clearly sharper and shows less noise at all ISO settings.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond40/page18.asp shows us that both handle shadows equally, but the D40 clips the highlights by about 1/3 of a stop.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond40/page21.asp shows a side-by-side of studio images. The 8 MP of the Canon 350D at least put the camera on equal footing with the Nikon D40 for image quality, but you have to take note that the Rebel XT is shot at ISO 100 and the Nikon is shot at it lowest setting of ISO 200. I think the Canon images may look a little better, but we know from the prior page that under equal lighting levels, the Canon will start to break up before the Nikon.
The reviewer says, "While it is possible to pick areas of the image which lend some credence to the EOS 350D's 34% pixel count advantage it's clear that the average observer would not notice these differences and that you would need a very large output size for any of them to become visible."
Check this out...
http://dpreview-img.fotki.com/gallery/canoneos350d_samples1/originals/img_4068-raw-dpp.jpg is taken by the Canon 350D with a 17 mm focal length at f/6.3, 1/80th of a second, ISO 400 using RAW.
http://dpreview-img.fotki.com/gallery/nikond40_samples/originals/dsc_1206.jpg is taken with the Nikon D40 with an 18 mm focal length at f/4.5, 1/80th of a second, ISO 400 using jpeg.
The point of focus for the Canon photo is a bit deeper than it is for the Nikon, but even having 8MP and using RAW and a smaller aperture, I think the Canon image breaks up a lot more than the Nikon. You can barely make out the features on the face of the gentleman in the background. Is this the camera or the superiority of the Nikon 17-55 lens, which so many of us here praise???
Okay, I've made my stance clear. I like the Nikon D40 better than the Canon EOS 350D, so here's my general review of the D40.
The Nikon D40 is a great little camera, very easy to use and quite reasonably priced. It has a few "consumer friendly" totally automatic modes that make it very easy to use, but still offers total photographic control when you are ready to take charge. It will get you in the Nikon family which is a great place to be. If you buy accessories and lenses, you will be able to use everything on any Nikon that you might upgrade to later on.
Check out Nikon's "Picturetown" promotion, where they handed out 200 D40's in Georgetown, SC. http://www.stunningnikon.com/picturetown/
Here are a few reviews, in case you have not read them yet. Be sure to note that they are several pages long and some of the reviews also have some sample images that you can look at.
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/d40-recommendations.htm
I hate to see people slam the camera because it can't autofocus with older Nikon lenses. It is true that there is a "slight problem" with older Nikon lenses not autofocusing on the D40, but if you do not own a bag full of older lenses, it is not going to be a problem. It is barely a problem anyhow. If you check www.nikonusa.com for "AF-S" lenses, which are ALL 100% compatible with the D40, you will find 23 lenses, including 7 "VR" (vibration Reduction) lenses and one true macro lens with "VR". There are another 25-plus lenses in the current catalog that provide all functions except autofocus as well as many (possibly dozens) "out of print" lenses that will work just as well. In addition, although these lens will not autofocus, most of them will still give focus confirmation. From the D40 manual: "If the lens has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 of faster, the viewfinder focus indicator can be used to confirm whether the portion of the subject in the selected focus area is in focus. After positioning the subject in the active focus area, press the shutter release button halfway and rotate the lens focusing ring until the in-focus indicator is displayed." (See http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/nikonafs.txt for a list of AF-S lenses.)
The D40 only has 3 autofocus zones arranged horizontally at the center, 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. This might be considered a limitation, but realistically, most people will find this perfectly adequate, especially if you are moving up from a point and shoot with only a center zone.
You can get the D40 with the 18-55 kit lens at B&H Photo available through Yahoo! Shopping or at 1-800-622-4987) for $525 (June 2007). Add a Lexar Platinum (60X speed) card for $25 or 2 GB for $35. Or - get the D40 with 18-135 lens and 1 GB Lexar card for $750. They also have used D40's from $475.
And yet... clearly these are both very good cameras. What it all comes down to is which one YOU feel better about. Go to a camera shop and pick them up and see.
I just bought the Canon XSi digital camera. It comes with a nice little pocket guide, but since I bought my camera in Japan, it's in Japanese. I've already found the user manual through Canon's website, but they don't have the pocket guide. Anyone know where to find one online?
haha! so i bought a new canon digital camera a Powershot a2000 IS. are there accessories that can make my photographs look pro and beautiful?
and how do i attach them? pictures would be much appreciated thanks!
Answer
Actually, your own photography skills will make your pictures look "pro and beautiful". So just focus on improving your photography skills. Even with a point-and-shoot camera, a person can take some very good pictures. Play around with the manual settings on your camera until you discover what works best for taking pictures under certain conditions. And read about things pertaining to photography, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, etc.
what is the latest model of canon digital camera and what is diffrences between these ?
i have bought cannos sd 630 . But i know there is latest model of canon digital camera in the market . So i want to know what can i do with my cannos sd 630 and what can't i do ?
Answer
The Canon SD 630 is a very good compact camera.
I don't think you should worry about the other models for now. I would wait till next year to see what is coming out.
They are...
SD800 IS, 7.1 MP, 3.7x optical
SD900, 10MP, 3x optical
A630, 8MP, 4x optical but larger in size
The two SD models just have more megapixels and the newer processor.
And the SD630 has the same excellent movie mode...and has a large 3.0" LCD.
Just make sure you use a fast SD card.
What is a good dSLR camera for someone beginning photography?
canon digital camera 7d price image
Amber I
I have always just used basic P&S digital cameras, but would like to learn more about photography. I don't know very much as I am just starting to think about getting a good camera and have just started doing some research. I've looked at the Canon Rebel T1i and the Nikon D5000 and also a friend told me about the Canon EOS 40D. Any thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Answer
Hey,
Any of those 3 would be a great option. Many of us have used different DSLRs and when you're below 3500$, it's all the same. If you're using a camera only for low light (high ISO) then of course there will be differences, but technology today is so good there is barely any distracting noise at ISO 6400 while 3 years ago 1600 was..eh, acceptable.
T1i is a good choice but Canon could've done it better. The previous one, XSi, has 3 less megapixels and no video but same quality. T2i, the latest of these Rebels, is in my opinion, the best choice for beginners.
D5000 is good, but is fading out due to new cameras, especially because of D3100 and D7000. D3100 is almost the cheapest and is amazing.
40D is pretty old but still has great quality. Noise is worse than at T2i, 60D and 7D (due to technology) and the LCD Screen is bad compared to ones today. It doesn't have Microfocus adjustement and well, you can only get a used one.
Here's a post called 'Buying a DSLR, what's important, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality and which one to get - http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2009/03/which-dslr-to-buy.html
That site has many more tutorials, tips, reviews and guides. Good luck!
what is the best digital camera?
I am looking for a compact digital camera. I want the best one regardless of the price, but I do not know which brand is the best canon, sony or ?and which fitures are the most important ones!
Answer
It is true, a digital camera is like a car, there is no best one, just best for some type of photography.
If you are looking at the best image quality then, the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II is what you should be looking at. It is very important that you pair this camera with high-end lenses otherwise you will lose its advantage.
If you are looking for the best ergonics and night-time photography, you should go for the Konica-Minolta Maxxum 7D.
If you are looking for shooting action and sports like race-cars, you will be better off with a Canon 30D or a Nikon D200.
If you...
I think you get the point, if you are not sure how to chose, you can go to an online buying guide like www.neocamera.com
Try resetting your camera back to the original factory settings.
What questions should I ask before buying a professional-quality camera?
Someone
I want possibly a Canon Rebel or something of the same nature.
What questions should I ask so I will know it's the right one?
Answer
The first thing you should ask is do I have $4000. Not all digital SLRs are professional quality. If you don't know what to ask about when looking at them, then you don't need one.
The canon rebel series are awesome consumer level cameras. Look at the sensor type, CMOS is better than CCD, and size (larger is better). Also look at the shutter speeds and iso settings. You need to decide if you can use the kit lens or if you need to buy lenses sepaerately.
If you are lost on all of this then you should find a local camera shop to help you look at your options.
Are there any small digital cameras which recharge with a micro-usb adaptor, like all modern phones do?
canon digital camera battery charger on Canon Rebel Battery
canon digital camera battery charger image
Codex
All modern phones except for iPhone recharge with micro-USB. It's quite annoying to carry several power adaptors around when on the move. For example, all small Canon digital cameras have a several charger which you must put the battery into, to charge the camera. Pretty unhandy, considering how easy it would be to connect your phone charger to your camera. Which brands and models has this feature? Thanks for your help!
Answer
Yes there are but very few. I don't now which ones do so you may have to sue the Search box at the top of this page to do that. You may try those generic clip-on charging devices sold in cellphone accessory shops. You can probably use it for both cellphone and camera batteries.
On vacation, put my memory card into a different camera and it says there are no photos?
random
I have a Canon Digital Rebel Xsi and had a memory card packed with photos in it. The camera's battery ran out and I forgot to put the charger, so I put my card in my dad's Nikon D40x and it says there are no photos on the card?! I'm on an old computer with no memory card slot so I can't check on there.
Any idea what happened? Is it because the camera doesn't recognize pics from another camera, or are the photos gone? Can they be recovered?
Answer
That is right. Don't worry, the photos are still there, but you cannot expect different cameras to "see" image files shot with another camera model, especially a different brand.
For under $10 you can buy a USB 2.0 card reader and copy your images to any computer you like.
You will notice that the image files your camera produces are called IMG_1234 and your dad's are called DSC_1234
While they are both JPEG files, the different naming conventions preclude your dad's camera from seeing them
